Tom Clancy's The Division

Same here. I enjoyed the couple hours I played of the beta. But reading that others can take your inventory after they kill you, is very discouraging. I might rent this first.

That would be beyond frustrating. :ouch:
Luckily it only happened once. Most of the people I've seen tend to work together instead of just shooting everyone on sight.

I became rogue once in the entire beta, and it was when I was using the sniper to kill a looter and a player walked right where I was aiming just as I fired, and then I was immediately killed by everyone next to me.

I actually find that pretty exciting, and adds an interesting element to the game. It'll all come down to moral standards for each person and that, to me, is a bit intriguing.

I think the game is going to have a 70/30 community. Most will just want to find and extract the good loot they find, being neutral with most. But the game doesn't make sense without having savage-like people causing trouble. I find this to be what makes the game interesting.

It's not a game for everyone for sure. My buddy who I played the beta with mostly, never got gear out of an extraction so needless to say, he most likely will not get the game, it was too aggravating for him but I find that uneasy, adrenaline filled, dont-trust-anyone feeling worth it.....in moderation of course!

I'm sure there would be some hilarious times if we can get the whole group together for this.

Oh yeah, I can just hear @Frizbe b******* because he can't find any good loot and then when he does, he gets jacked right before the extraction helo arrives.

Not sure if you confirmed @ImaRobot but are you getting this Tuesday?
I get paid at the end of the week, so I'll be getting it by that Friday.

The concept reminds me a LOT of GTA5 online. Can be very fun or very frustrating. I will keep an eye on this thread to see how The Division turns out. I plan to at least rent it for sure.

I'm thinking more in terms of the story - a civilian stay-behind force called to action to reclaim the city in light of society collapsing. Throw in overtones of a mass conspiracy, and it's rather intriguing.

As for people nicking your gear, my understanding is that when you enter the Dark Zone, any gear earned can only be used in the Dark Zone because it is "contaminated".

Is it possible to play this game without going online and having PS Plus? I might be interested but only as a single player game.

By extracting your gear found in the DZ, it becomes decontaminated, allowing you to then use found gear once you go back to your " stash" in the headquarters. So once that happens, you can use gear anywhere.

@doblocruiser I believe it will be like Destiny, has to be online.

Found it: It can be played as a single player as well :)

It’s a great single-player game, period. We don’t use a stick, but rather a carrot, to get people on board with multiplayer, be it co-op or PvP in Dark Zones or the social spaces in the Safe Houses.

Additional info

“You don’t have to meet a single person unless you want to. This is another thing that’s really important to me. We want people to play with other people and we think that’s a lot of fun, but we’re going to use carrot and not stick to make that happen. You come in and it’s a beautiful game with a great story that’s gripping, and all of the trapping of a great single-player game with the full-on narrative and open world and you can go in and have a tremendously good time as a solo player, where the only place you’ll bump into other players is in the non-hostile social spaces ,where you can just walk past them if you like.

Oh I see. So if I just avoid "Dark Zone" it sounds like I will still have a great time in co-op without losing anything I earn.

Now that the confusion is cleared up. The mp in "Dark Zone" works similar to the Halo 5 "Warzone" mode. I know none of you have played H5 Warzone so I wont try to explain the similarities. But it is a very similar concept. Thanks for clearing up the confusion. I most likely wont spend much time in "Dark Zone".

@CAMAROBOY69 From what I've gathered, some missions in the full game require visits to the DZ, though I imagine the developers know not everyone wants to PvP so those missions might not be to involved, more a way to try to give people a taste.

Edit- Also remember that the DZ and solo area have two separate ranks and currency.

@doblocruiser my bad, I misunderstood your question, I thought you were asking if not having an online connection would prevent you from playing!

Ahh similar to what Destiny did with the Crucible (mp vs mode). Yeah I did not enjoy the Crucible much at all. I tried to avoid it any way I could. I stick mainly with co-op campaign modes or any type of co-op in general. Not many mp modes I enjoy. Especially if I have the chance to lose everything.

Offline playing or avoiding DZ if so better saving your money....

The game greatness come from creating a 4-5 friends groups and venturing and surviving the zone and extracting some good gear...

I hated the crucible too but the DZ isn't strictly PvP. Think of it like walking into a bad area of town but not everyone (human) is going to cause trouble, most are just trying to go about their day just like you but all of a sudden, as you are searching the DZ, fighting with some Ai, came across an apartment and found some cool guns and some sweet new kneepad armor....now you need to get to the extraction zone to keep this gear. Here is where it can get nasty.....people you crossed paths with earlier who were claiming to be friendly are now either going to be one of two ways.....1) they also have gear they want so no gunfire will erupt and all parties at extraxtion zone will get their goodies or 2) they will become hostile because they want your gear.....

So long story short, the DZ is an Ai and human area where you never know what will go down. And no other players will know what gear you have until they kill you, so risking becoming rogue for some crappy handgun can and will happen!

I explained myself not very well ;)

Internet connection is fine but I just want to play alone. I have zero interest in creating teams or going up against other players in a shooter so if the main story line can be played solo I am fine :D

Now that description is actually VERY similar to Arma 3 Day Z. That is indeed a risk / reward concept. If you go in there with a group of friends you have a pretty good chance of getting good loot. Going in solo would be fairly suicidal. VERY similar to Arma 3 or Day Z.

Yes it is.

And like I edited in earlier, the DZ has separate currency and rank so sometimes DZ vendors have really good weapons/loot for sale so if you'd want to purchase, venturing into the DZ is a must. Keep in mind that you also lose money and rank in the DZ when you die, more if you die when being rogue.

The game, for me at least, has some very interesting aspects. Some will reward me with many many riches while others will be agony filled. It really is going to send me on an emotional rollercoaster......if that sounds terrible, Stay out of the Dark Zone!

Then the game will get boring really fast for you, i fear.

My opinion on not using the DZ is like going to an island resort and not taking advantage of the awesome but possibly dangerous scuba diving adventure....you are still going to have fun but a part of you will regret not experiencing certain things....maybe?:scared:

Well I don't know. I played COD MW2 (last shooter I played) like that and I had a great time. Would like to hear your explanation why it would get boring very quickly?
They stated just 10 missions in it so i guess soloing it it's not gonna last long...

Didn't know that. I'll read a bit more into it 👍
They did talk about expansion and lots of DLCs but i really suggest you to get a couple of friends and get in the DZ... It's way way too much fun if you get in, in a group and make the teamwork shine.

I didn't like the beta at all until i gave team play a go and i was hooked at how great it is to work and plan and fight together.

That's a bit disappointing, but I suppose that it comes down to the game world. Far Cry 4 has just thirty missions, many of which are pretty brief - but a lot of the story is told through side-quests and other activities. In order to really understand what is happening, you have to experience the full game world. I think The Division could be similar in that a large part of its story hinges on government conspiracy.

@doblocruiser here's a supposed mined data leak. http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertc...s-the-games-total-mission-count/#56e7d57a7716

Seems to have 26 missions in the main game. I imagine it will be Destiny like where you can replay those missions on harder difficulty for better loot. So I'd guess you'd still get plenty of entertainment out of playing solo, if you like the loot grind type of games?

I read that a Survival mode is due this summer so that should be pretty cool to!

I hope when you mean harder difficulty, you mean not ramp up every enemy's HP to make them feel even more bullet-spongey.

I think I might have an idea. :dopey: 💡
It's about DZ pvp.

Here's how I see it...
Queue for battle with team of 4. Objective is to eliminate ______ Gang causing trouble. At the same time another group is being set up for the same objective in matchmaker.

Do air drop each team by helicopter so you can enter them in a zoned-encounter away from all the other players in the actual DZ.

If your team fails to achieve the objective you are radioed an update to interrupt the other teams extraction and make your own with their loot.

If you lose and don't get any loot you still get a little supply crate with a chance for loot and xp.

Team Deathmatch in the DZ. :D
