Like NFS could "threaten" anything, especially under EA.

Not so sure about that, they always seem to threaten for the "worst racing game" title.

(Yes, I know Shift is better. But it's still buggy as hell and that's ignoring the horrible physics)

I think it's the new Need for Speed MMO. What is it, Need for Speed World or something like that?

Good luck to them. They're going to need it.

+1

PD has been doing this for years and they are very good at what they do. If another developer thinks they are going to release a game to steal GT's thunder on their first try, they have another thing coming. In deed, good luck.

Then you haven't seen Fo... oh, wait...

If the article has any basis in fact, then my guess is Codemaster has gone back to it's roots and created TOCA 4,
not Grid 2. The TOCA series has a lot of history & a birth around the same time GT entered the scene.:)

Nothing comes close and you know it.

Amazing how anal people become when another racing game is mentioned in the same sentence as Gran Turismo; how dare anyone claim to challenge Gran Turismo. I mean surely it's the best goddamn thing since sliced bread, right?

How dare they.

I know!! GT5 is the BEST RACING GAME EVER. based on the 3 trailers and 100 screenshots of the SLS....:nervous:

I hope it is better, probably not though. The only winner is us punters.

Or they are just doing thier best impression of Dan Greenawalt.

Well could it also be the new FIA GT1 game ? I've read that the license is to be coming on consoles... without more details

Sounds plausible. When the news about the FIA GT1 game broke, I looked around and found this on the real time racing website:

http://www.real-timeracing.com/news.aspx?node=20623&title=fia-gt-one-new-website-ambitious-serie

Now to me it seemed very plausible that Simbin would be working on the new FIA game, and seeing as their recent focus has been the console market, we very well could have a contender in RTR if it does turn out to be the as yet unannounced FIA GT1 game.

It would take at least something like the iOpener feature to put a game up there with with GT5, unless of course OPM are blowing smoke up our butts with massive overhype and the game will be Motorstorm 3. Personally I think it's likely to be the latter going by OPM's past history.

I'll go with whoever thought this might be an April's fools joke lol.

If they want to compete with GT5, they'll have to be comparable in the following categories:

Graphics
1000 cars
Online features
Physics
Rally/Nascar if that matters
Possibly some new night races
16 cars on track
Interior modeling (considered graphics, but I think it's a separate feature)
And probably the claimed 60-80 million dollars of development costs.

Good luck to them.

Don't recall it saying anything about sales.

Well that's the basis for any product to be successful, if the 2nd biggest brand in the genre can't get within a quarter of the sales, nothing else will get near.

All the claim 'compete with GT' means in this context is that there's a new sim-style (unless the mag is 100% clueless) racing title coming to PS3 and from the look they've had at it it doesn't suck. They can't just say 'competant new racing game on the way!' because they're a magazine, they have to make it as artificially exciting as possible, hence the EPIC WARZ between this unknown racing game and GT.

I seriously doubt this is an April Fool's joke because covertly advertising an April Fool's joke in March and getting people excited over something makes your magazine look outright idiotic and your credibility goes straight down the toilet. I really don't believe this is a joke. It's not April, it's not time for April fools, and magazines tread a thin line with April fools anyway. ESPECIALLY print mags.

All the article says is that it is a racer that may compete with GT5. There is every likelihood that this competition is in terms of quality which have nothing to do with sales. Yes, it could be a sales potential comparison. It nowhere explicitly says either, both sides are currently as right as one another, argument over? 👍:sly:

edit: And sales as the basis for product success is a narrow view. Tell that to any indie musician or film maker or potentially game maker who is in it for the sake of the craft, which is a separate entity from sales.

It is probably motorstorm 3, blur, or grid 2 or f1 2010?
I know none of these compare with GT in anyway, but you would be amazed what is written after some money is slipped under a magazine's noses.
