I can't remember it in 5 or 6. There were a few variations of the current layout, chicane/no chicane etc. Could have been in an earlier one. It would be interesting though.

3 or 4 maybe, anyone else know?

Cheers John.

Fuji's 1965 to 1974 layout looks like it would be a great one to add into SMS's historical circuits repertoire. Fearsomely fast!

Yes - this would be a great track for the game. Originally the Japanese Grand Prix was run to Group 7 rules (unlimited sports cars) before it joined the F1 calendar. If you check out this coverage of the 1969 race you will spot a Porsche 917 (early 4.5 litre model), Lola T70 Chevrolet as well as Nissan 6 litre V12's and 5 litre naturally aspirated V8 Toyota 7's. The Nissan's dominated this race so afterwards Toyota embarked on a turbo programme with the 7 in an attempt to give it the upper hand - unfortunately it made the car too difficult to drive and after the death of two drivers during testing, the project was cancelled. We had that Toyota 7 in GT5 and GT6.

I don't remember an early version of Fuji in Gran Turismo, but I only started playing with GT5. It would be a very good track for SMS - especially if they could get the 1969 Nissan R382.

Health and safety! What's that? Pit speed limits, never heard of them.
That's certainly some banking on the first corner!

Why is it on these "oldie" films they always felt the need to add music? Usually inappropriate music too.

@Sick Cylinder - just checking. Did you see my post about the 25 minute race?

Hi Sick,
Bichu_mau is off this week. Keiros has been having a rough couple of weeks at work, but it's always possible that he could make it

Yes - good idea!

Would you mind re-posting the full list of settings for tonight so I have quick easy access for tonight.

I think it was to add interest, but also because they used 16mm film cameras which didn't record sound - a lot of the period recordings contain the wrong engine sounds as these were added later along with the background music. Sometimes I love the choice of music as it helps transport you to the period of the event - this is my favourite example - sit back, relax and enjoy the narration and music!

PS - this was the last land speed record set on rubber tyres (inflated to 350 psi)!

What a race!

Struggled to get even near @Tavilha’s times in qualifying and was happy to start third.

I had a good pace during the first laps of the race and had a prime seat to enjoy the excellent battle between @Friday_GTRP and @Tavilha.

Then the track started to dry and my times became faster than the ones in front. Small mistake from @Tavilha got me in second and a couple of laps later I beat @Friday_GTRP on the brakes for the first corner.

The rest of the race both of them put a good deal of pressure but managed to stay in front, despite a butt clenching moment two laps before the end, when I hit a hidden puddle off the racing line.

All for all, excellent race. The changing conditions of the track, the closeness of the battle and the excellent lighting made this an epic race.

@John Wells has an awesome opportunity to bring its best and take some great pictures.

I make DD's words my own - Great race!

I overdrove the car on 2 or 3 occasions and ended up spinning, which meant that I couldn't hold the battle until the end. Nevertheless, the 3 car scuffle for P1 in the first half of the race is worth watching and rewatching.

V8 Supercars Round 6 of 7 Fuji GP.jpg

It is all to play for in the Individual Championship with DD84UK leading on 78 while Tavilha and Friday are close behind on 73 and 711 respectively.

In the Team Championship, with 65 points available for a clean sweep of the top positions - it could be any of the teams. Team Green will of course, start the final round at Bathurst (Mount Panorama) as favourites on 174. With the departure of Jammy and Richroo, DD84UK has taken over the Captaincy and MAR has taken over Green Car 10.

We have a vacancy for a driver for Green Car 9 in the final round - take this slot to guarantee your place on the grid for the upcoming Historic Le Mans Series - an epic battle between the Porsche 917 and Ferrari 512!

Well I think my time & weather settings worked quite well??
Not too many complaints anyway. Although a bit more difficult in the rain it didn't get too wet. The top 3 certainly seemed to enjoy themselves splashing about. :)

It sort of made it seem like a complete race experience I thought.

For most part I had quite a lonely race. Which was probably for the best because I kept missing my braking points while wondering if my settings were working correctly. :dopey:

I'm still not keen on Fuji, I can never get into a rhythm around there for some reason. It looked pretty though.

I’ve got a small suggestion.

Why wouldn’t you adopt a GT category style of categorising drivers?

I.e. Am; Pro-Am and Pro. This way you still have three categories and we would get rid of the strangely looking Pro+.

What do you think?

Perfect settings IMO, not only because of the rain and time of day with awesome lighting, but also because of the dynamic surface. Start with a wet track, then looking for the best grip on a drying racing line, then almost dry (we were looking for puddles on the straight to try and cool the overheating tyres), then more rain and a fully wet track again... All this while battling for positions
If you're a petrolhead, this is pure heaven

Yes the Live Track certainly lives up to its name. Very dynamic as you say.

I'm not sure how it differs between the Pro and normal PS4. I've got a Pro and I was concerned that it might be more taxing for the standard model. It should be a similar overall experience of course but there must be some differences I would think. My frame rates didn't seem to drop at all.

The lighting was nice. I might be tempted to also take some race pictures myself. All arty. :p

I think Sick tries to put a label on championship winners with pro+, i don't mind it, you could also opt for the FIA WEC labeling of Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum driver

We used to use Silver, Gold and Platinum, with Gold being people who showed consistent speed and Platinum being for people who had won a championship in Sick's Race Room - I changed it for something shorter (easier to fit into spreadsheets) and which perhaps is more self explanatory. The main use of the classification is to make my life easier when planning multi-class racing. Pro Am would take up more room than Pro+ (I believe in real life it is an amateur of professional standard, but you can also be ranked Pro and still be an amateur!). Interestingly I noticed during a recent Historic event at Brands Hatch that one of the drivers was ranked as a Pro, but the others were ranked as Gentlemen - the Pro driver was penalised with time added to his pit stop - he still won, but had to come through the field!

That settles it then, @Sick Cylinder

@Napalm_LT : it was working as expected in the race. Up to the point that when the track was half dry and the car in front went over the wet side to cool down tires, your windscreen got sprayed. It was truly impressive.

I had time to put a couple of laps at Bathurst. Here’s the video of my fastest lap of the session: 2:07.5

I remember we did not official race with Ginetta with light rain and there view was different - when a car ahead was in about few tens I needed wipers on its fastest mod. Maybe it depend on more factors. Cool race anyway.

Information on the next Championship

We still have one more round left in the current championship, but I thought it was important to give you details on the next series. We will be using the recent DLC to recreate some of the epic Porsche v Ferrari battles which took place in 1970 and 1971. There will be night to day transitions and a car change half way through the season so that everyone gets the chance to drive both the Porsche and the Ferrari during the ten rounds. Coping with traffic has always been a big part of sports car racing and the "Am" Drivers will race a Porsche 911 in two rounds and the Ferrari Daytona in two rounds - similar in performance to cars used in period. Triple points will be on offer when "Am" Drivers are in the 911 and daytona.

All drivers will be members of Team McQueen or Team Garner - scoring points for their team and on an individual basis. We currently have one vacancy for Team McQueen so if you know someone who may be interested in joining please let them know about the series.

1970 Track List.jpg

Below - Driver list showing teams. Notice that there is now a Driver Number column.

1970 Drivers.jpg

Below - Car assignment table. Use your driver number to check which car you are driving at each round. For example in rounds 1 and 2 I drive a Porsche 911 number 43, then for rounds 3 to 5 I use a Porsche 917K number 2. Rounds 6 and 7 I drive a Ferrari Daytona number 39, then for rounds 8-10 I drive a Ferrari 512M number 6 (Penske).

1970 Car Assignment.jpg

A second example - Friday GTRP is driver number 11 - he drives a Porsche 917LH number 17 in rounds 1-5 and a Ferrari 512S number 5 in rounds 6-10.

For each round with a full room there should be 16 cars on track of which 2 will be Porsche 911, 2 Ferrari Daytona, 3 Porsche 917K, 3 Porsche 917LH, 3 Ferrari 512M and 3 Ferrari 512S.

If anyone is unsure which car to use please send me a message or post your query below.
