Get Your Car In Gran Turismo: 2013 GT Awards Announced

art morrison corvette gt6

Each year at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, the Gran Turismo Awards are held to honor some of the best custom vehicles on display – one of which gets immortalized in a Gran Turismo game.

gt-awards-logoThe Awards are responsible for some of the series’ most interesting cars, including Art Morrison’s 1960 Corvette, GT4‘s 1964 Buick Special, and the 1970 Mustang “Trans Cammer”.

This year’s event has just been announced by SCEA, and brings with it a new twist in the form of a “People’s Choice Award”, which will let the public vote on their favorite finalist via the Gran Turismo Facebook page.

The ultimate “Best in Show” winner will be chosen by Kazunori and his staff, to be featured in a Gran Turismo game sometime in the future.

The GT Awards are open to every car on display at SEMA, and applications are now being accepted on the PlayStation website.

The party itself will be held at the HAZE Nightclub at the Aria Hotel & Casino on the evening of November 6, 2013. GTPlanet will be in attendance, providing full coverage of all the announcements. See you there!

We need AE86 N2 type car.And one 90`bmw and golf MKII (GTI or Rallye). NO NEED MUCH SUPERCARS!! Peoples have own car to game.Koenigsegg is car for arcade games :D

  2. jgancherjr

I’ve seen a couple people get it right, but, this is SEMA, the winning car would have to be a tuned version by an alternative source, not “Volkswagens SEMA car” or whatever..

  3. HarVee

The winner of this award isn’t actually guaranteed to be in a future GT game unless Kazunori him self picks it as the winner. This people’s choice award is pretty much just another category. Only difference is the winner of this category is picked by facespace users.

    1. HuskyGT

GT2 had a healthy amount of Golf models. Although they were all MkIV. I don’t remember exactly the lineup, but I know there was a GTi 1.8, a GTi 2.0, a VR6 and the mythical Golf 2.3 VR5.

  4. mobiletone

stop banging on about Porsche, it’s never going to happen in GT, anyways, you have the RUFs to play with.

    1. Magic Ayrton

Do we?? will they be premiumised? Will we have newer models like RT12? Will we be able to change tyre size, width and offset?? Hmmmm

    2. Ittybitty Stigy

Even if they aren’t in the game, if a Porsche wins, it’s kind of like a petition to PD. And for when you said we have RUF’s as Magic Ayrton said, we only have the old ones.

    3. Ittybitty Stigy

^ Yeah, I aggre, some is better than none. But some people, like myself, would also like some newer models.

    1. Swagger897

all of these cars have been on topgear and they have all added some magic to all of them…

we should get the special one

    1. ScotteDawg

MAZDA (Miata or otherwise) is Japanese!

Lexus is Toyota, Acura is Honda and Infinity is Nissan! No matter WHERE they’re built, they are Japanese cars!

    2. Pit Crew

I think I see where your confusion came in S897. It’s a Miata in the NA market, but they were developed in Japan and Mazda has no NA luxury ar like Nissan Toyota & Honda which is where those premium brand vehicles assembly plants are.

    3. Swagger897

just saying that mazda is owned by ford. Just like how AM was owned by ford (horrible looking cars except the DBS).

when an american company owns another foreign car company, they all look like a big round ball. Nothing intricate to anything

    4. Swagger897

but if you pay for it like the majority of people do in monthly installments, in about 12 months you could buy a decently tuned supra..

    5. Swagger897

Made… Never did like the db7.. looked like an inverted bath tub…

Now the rapide… that’s a beast. Especially the nurburgring 24 hour hydrogen racer..

    6. sayba2th

From memory there has not been one Skyline from SEMA that has been incorporated, Mines yes, but not SEMA. The split marques are basically the luxury arm of those manufactures to make their brands appear as “more classy” to target the Beemer and Merc customers to cross over to the “Dark Side”. Kind of like how MB has AMG and BMW, M-Technik as their performance divisions of the marque yet Audi are slightly different they use Quattro GmbH What few people realize is that the RS4 is not actually built by Audi, but rather by Quattro GmbH, a separate company that is owned by Audi AG. These are the same people that create the S-line sport packages (not the S4 or S6 models, mind you; nor does Quattro GmbH design or build the all-wheel drive system that bears its name—yes, we are slightly confused, as well). Mazda (Standard) – Eunos (Luxury) – Mazdaspeed (Performance) / Toyota has Lexus & TRD / Nissan has Infinity & Nismo & Honda has Acura & HRC, are doing the same as MB / BMW Audi (their standards are luxury) – creating “exclusivity” be it different target markets but all equates to increasing sales. All Japanese owned however Ford owns a 3% share of Mazda while Renault hold a 44.3% share of Nissan.

    7. Allek

Aren’t we entitled to output our opinion? I thought we were. Well, I kind of hate most of US ugly squared muscle cars, except for one: the Viper – because of its roundness. Beautiful beast, like Astons and Jaguars. If you say AM are horrible I say they are among the best looking ones. And besides being squared they also understeer too much.

    8. Swagger897

My point was, when Americans have a say in designs, not gonna lie.. they suck.

AM is owned 37.9 percent by am Italian bank. I never did look, but I thought I read that bank also owns a bit of alfa.

  5. Johan

    Interesting:
“The winner’s vehicle will be digitally recreated and will appear in Gran Turiso 5 for the PlayStation®3 system.”
    :?

    1. ScotteDawg

Keep in mind that there are 1200 cars in GT6 from the get go, 89 more than GT5 after the DLC! Of the 61 that have not yet been revealed to the public, the Triumph GT6 may well be one of those cars…

    2. Swagger897

wait.. we havent been told what the other 175 cars are have we? I thought it was only the 25 from the pre-order and the others included in the Limited edition (also the pre-order)

    3. ScotteDawg

      @Swagger897 – I was corrected a short while back.

      1200 cars in GT6 – 1111 in GT5 (this total includes DLC) – The difference is 89.

25 cars in pre-order – 3 others revealed (unsure about this or what they were) – 61 remaining.

Even if only 25 were revealed, there are only 64 that haven’t been! Not a huge number but enough to put quite a lot of decent cars in the game!

  6. HuskyGT

PD will choose the ultimate winner, so there is no chance for Porsche. However, it would be interesting if a Porsche wins the People Choice. It would be rather awkward to see it within the finalists knowing that they cannot give it the win due to the licensing thing.

    1. ScotteDawg

The Trans Cammer is not called a Ford Mustang and the Art Morrison Corvette is not called a Chevrolet. If a company does up a Porsche and it wins the People’s Choice Award, it would go into GT6 under that company’s name!! Therefore, licencing DOES NOT come into it! So, all the Porsche cry-babies get their wish…

    2. Pit Crew

Actually they don’t *The ultimate “Best in Show” winner will be chosen by Kazunori and his staff, to be featured in a Gran Turismo game sometime in the future.*

So unless Kaz agrees with the Peoples Choice finalist 1 and 2 It’s Tuned with no obvious porsche badging , or maybe a Dauer 962 or something to that degree we still won’t see a Porsche in a future GT title.

    3. HuskyGT

I highly doubt it. Those cars are still Porsche. So how are they going to name the car in the game? “German Sports car tunned by —–” What about the logos? It’s not like Ruf which is a certified auto maker of its own.

The Trans Cammer, Art Morrison Corvette and such still have their model names. I’m very sure that you cannot use the name Corvette or Mustang without proper licensing.

    4. sayba2th

I will have to agree with Husky on this SD, these cars were modified upon the Ford Mustang and Chev Corvette which still leads back to licensing. Ruf get around this by being a maker in their own right basing their cars upon on Porsche chassis. As Ford & Chev are already licensed with GT and have good relationships with GT & PD it would have been not to difficult of a process to get this to happen. It will be immensely interesting if a Porsche is eligible for the people’s choice and if it does win how this will be overcome.

  7. phil_75

    Get your car in GT,

You too can see your car on screen whilst hearing what it would sound like with the sample of a PS3 fan on full speed as an engine note!

  8. Jayson619

It’s not accepting entries from Asia. Someone better vote for these cars:

    LAMBORGHINI Reventon
    LAMBORGHINI Sesto Elemento

    1. HarVee

      -facepalm-

That registration form is for people who have a car at SEMA and would like to compete in this competition and are from the U.S.

    2. sayba2th

And a massive lack of comprehension skills as well Husky hey, and it’s become a common theme on here, half the same comments get posted over and again from different parties about what has already been stated by others previously.

  9. hobanator24

I’m really hoping for a European Import this time! While I love the muscle cars that have won these past few years, I really wanted the VWVortex Super Beetle to win last year. 500hp, AWD, VW styling. Whats not to love?

  10. Pit Crew

Don’t we have to actually know which cars will be shown before we can vote?? Assuming a porsche will be entered before then is a tad premature. In any case flooding the ballots with porsche votes wont get the brand into the GT series IMO, and is a waste of time and a vote that could be applied to a legitimate and highly probable contender but hey, try it if you think it’ll work…lol.

  11. GRAN_TURISMAN

I know these may not be SEMA cars, but I would love to see the Caparo T1, Arial Atom, Rebellion R2K, Hennessey Venom, and the Ultima Aero ssc in GT6! That would be awesome!

  12. PepeMickey

Never really liked these ”Award Winning” cars, with proper customization in the game, they would be pointless.

    1. sayba2th

But Pepe, GT is dead to you, you said it yourself in a previous post but yet you still play, what gives seeming you seem to hate this game?

  13. Swagger897

So reading all of these notes about the ongoing battle between EA and every other game that wants Porsche in theirs, I had the thought that….

Is the EA license only limited to their production cars, or does it include their factory racing teams as well.. would love top see the lmp in gt6

    1. Ittybitty Stigy

As much as I want it to be like that, doubt it is. And even if it was, we would most likely not get their P1 car seeing as we got the old version of the R18.

    2. Swagger897

Unfortunately it isnt the 2012 model, rather the 2011.

In 2012 (if we are going by Le Mans {June}) the number 1 and 2 cars were the E-tron quattro’s, and 3 and 4 cars were the TDI ultra’s. Also, there is no cut out above the wheel wells on the R18 in GT6 for the 2012 FIA regulations.

I hope in a DLC we do get the R18 with accurate sounds of the braking and acceleration with that Williams flywheel

  14. Halcyon925

I can’t believe that almost a year has went by since the 2012 SEMA Awards! It seems like it happened back in April.

  15. Johnnypenso

You guys can vote for Porsche all you want, the winner is “judged” not chosen by popularity. Whichever car Kaz wants in the game, that’ll be the winner.

    1. Swagger897

Or the E-tron.. sad to see the R15 not in, since it holds the record for longest distance traveled in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and many other accolades. I would like to see the 908x however and the Toyota ts030

    1. Swagger897

Mine is five years older than your model. Never liked the toyota Camry look to it.. my engine is the 24 valve also

  16. montecarlo87

That’s the only way I ever see a Montecarlo SS getting in the game. To build mine to win a SEMA GT award. Should see an 87 Montecarlo SS and an 86 Grand Prix 2+2 along side the Buick GNX. At least they are different cars unlike a Skyline R32 R33.

  17. TokoTurismo

I hope some people don’t blindly expect by picking a Porsche it’ll be include in GT. I bet you Kaz will be like “Oh wow, they’ve picked a Porsche. Oh well, mind as well just troll them by putting it in the museum. :3” It won’t happen, period…

    1. TokoTurismo

Yes. We can acttually pick an RUF car if its there, as long as it isn’t owned by Porsche, (own manufacturer). Not sure about 9FF though. :P

    2. RACECAR

9FF is not a Manufacterer so unfortunately that won’t happen. Tuner only companies usually aren’t ever gonna be featured since they only tune Porsche cars, not build them. With RUF being a tuner that is also a certified Manufacterer, they can build their own cars.

    3. Quakebass

But, if the car is a tuned model, can’t they get away with “sneaking” the car in the game by making the manufacturer the actual tuner…? Like Art Morrison? Or would EA’s exclusive license still reach past the competition laws? If the fan base/population declares their favorite car is a Porsche, and the competition states that the favorite car will make it into the game, does EA have the power to override that?

  18. HuskyGT

Whatever they choose, I’m sure it’s going to be something outstanding. I still can’t wait to drive that Mustang GT40 car.

And for all those saying to vote for a Porsche. That’s actually an awesome idea! Imagine what would happen if a Porsche actually won! That would be hilarious XD

    1. SavageEvil

That would interesting, they would probably have to take it to the heads at Sony to see if they can get the Porsche license from EA, if that is shot down we’d end up getting the next highest voted car. They probably already have a plan in case this happens.

  19. GRAN_TURISMAN

Which ever car wins rest assure that Kaz and staff will pick something Bad A$$! Hopefully it’s something exotic like an Aerial Atom or the Rebellion R2K! Now that’s what I’m talking about!

    1. eran0004

Because that would magically make EA give away a license?

It’s better to vote for something that you would like to see in Gran Turismo, much bigger chance of it actually ending up in the game.

    2. HuskyGT

And what if most of us would love to see a Porsche in the game? I know it’s impossible, but it’s worth the wasted vote :D

    3. 2012GT325

I have been attacked numerous times for stating that Sony, one of the biggest conglomerates in gaming and electronics, should be able to buy a license if it wanted to include Porsche in Gran Turismo. All it takes is a little money (a little for them) and they will be paid back when sales of Gran Turismo increase. But there are those here in this site who don’t even want people mentioning this anymore. Why can’t we talk about one of the best sports car brands in the world, and the fact that it’s missing from one of the best sim racers? RUF cars are NOT the same and are not even offered as premium cars in the game.

    4. eran0004

@ 2012GT325: Yes, if EA is even interested in selling a license. If they’re not, not all the money in the world could buy it.
