all the best tidgney!! is it time trials for the first day or do they set you up in head to head races??

  2. driver101

good man for posting such an in depth vid, most people like to keep that imformation to themselves.

btw good luck for the finals tidgney!! just remember to stay cool and the rest will follow. first time in the finals?

    1. Tidgney

My second time there. The first time last year a few different things happened which meant I got knocked out on day 1 :(!! On day 2 I was the fastest out of the remaining racers, on all the Timetrials so hopefully now I have the experience and nothing holding me back I should be able to get through to silverstone :D!

  3. Tidgney

Great work guys, nice to see that so many people improved because of the video makes it well worth while. As always if you have any questions about anything feel free to give me a shout, always happy to help out :)!

  4. JCH8r

Thanks very much. This helps a lot. You’re a good teacher. You do a good job of explaining at the right level and obviously you can do it which always helps in teaching/coaching.

  5. Vince_Fiero

I guess the prediction of Tidgney was correct a prefect lap would be under .700

    Ti-tech85 with 1:30.682

still is the closest to perfection.

  6. pudge

I would’ve liked to devote a lot more time to this, but I’ll be happy with the 1:34.856 I was able to get with this vid’s help. Shaved two seconds off my time before I quit. With a couple more hours and better study of the second half of the course, I’ve no doubt I could get a couple of more seconds off. Just glad to get all golds and have fun!

  7. blksentra2

Very informing video, not just for this round but for overall driving in Gran Turismo. After all, the only thing I was really aiming for was to beat my friends list times (which I came in second by .500 :( ). But I still had fun.

I didn’t worry about registering because even if I did make a spot, I would have been disqualified due to a less than clean driving record in real life.

Did anyone who registered read the actual terms and conditions in order to compete in the GT Academy beyond the game?

So we’re competing to go to Le Mans is a crappy 370z car that isn’t even tuned right on crappy tires? We should be racing in the Nissan Signatek LMP2 car that the winner gets to drive AT Le Mans the track that we’d ACTUALLY drive at.

    1. Nismo34

No point driving a brilliant race car if you cant control a basic road car with a spoiler on road tyres… Makes sense to me..

    1. pudge

Ren-Tec, you clearly don’t get the whole idea of the Academy, then. The point isn’t to find the people who are already the best, or who are naturally the best, or who can become the best without help, but to encourage people to improve to become the best. This video is *absolutely* in line wioth the whole idea of the Academy.

    2. Ren-Tec

Na it’s like, ” show me what you can do” and then someone goes here is the answer on a plate.

  9. Blazing99

Last time I checked I was in 3,457th place put of 1,000,000+ Players. I pat myself on the back. I just can’t get a quicker time. But it’s been fun!

    1. VspecZR1GT2RS89

Great job with the video Tidgney! This can help out alot of people who are having a difficult time with 8-5.

I didn’t know you had to fill in the form and now it tells me the registration period has ended? Help.

Remember, you must be registered to move forward to the next round of the competition, so fill out the necessary forms on your local gran-turismo.com website.

Go to that link and pick France. You’ll have to find the registration in there.

  11. scartezz

thank u Tidgney ! I learn a lot about the track watching your video, i have to reduce my lap time 0,8 second in 2 days, i think it is very hard but with your tips maybe…… ;)

  12. mistersafeway

I’m definitely going to watch this later, might help me get better (I only got my DFGT a couple of months ago). I’m sure I won’t be troubling the top of the leaderboard regardless, which is a good thing as I don’t have a licence in real life. There’s always next year though… LET ME DREAM!

  13. Vince_Fiero

    Thanks for that video.
Key to stability (missing in the video) is also going to 50% breaking just before steering, watch it in the video.

Now I just have to get my feet to listen to my brain, though luck there something wrongly wired with me.
Remember even if you do not get this fast, it is fun to drive at least I think so.

  14. davissi

Tidg I think you forget that the super fast guys have even ‘insaner’ sector times, you treat their laps as if they’re a finished product or something, its the same compromise for them except they’re 4 tenths down the road, they will have been way faster in their sectors too.
Its all about feel and finding the limits and practising without the ghost. We’re all faster than Ramon when we’re sat behind his ghost, its easy to catch back up again if you drop back but staying ahead is where practising without the ghost comes in. No need to change to 2nd anywhere also. Just a nice round circular curve in 3rd is fine, all the time comes from fast corner entry without spinning off and chasing the grip limit through the chicane and don’t bother trying on cold tyres.
The answer to those top times is to drive with an empty track and find all your turn and braking references in the articles around the side of the track and have a very well developed sense of perception. It takes a long long time to do it like that though and I can’t be bothered so that’s why I use the top ghost and get stuck 3 tenths behind it as a consequence no matter how long the track is.

    1. Tidgney

You are right davissi with that :), similarly I’ve been faster than ramon in sectors to but as you say practicising without the ghost is where you will see true driver limits and how you really cope without an additional reference of the ghost there! With the 2nd thing it’s true you don’t but it makes it far easier to get the slide your after than staying in 3rd which requires a little more precision with the brake, and I prefer going with ease, over difficulty :).

  15. mickoafna

Stability of this car is nothing like in real life!! In the game you floor the gas pedal and the back starts to come out…In real life this car doesn’t do that. But I like the track, especially the old layouts from previous GT games :-)

    1. scartezz

yes, you re right! it s very irrealistic, but this is gt academy, this is the only chance we have to become real driver! don t think about how irrealistic it is, in the finals you will drive a REAL car

    2. another_jakhole

You’re using a DS3, and you shouldn’t exactly be flooring it unless you’re car is lined up and not at the end of a turn.

    3. AFS

In real life if the Nissan 370Z or 350Z handles like that, there will be a lot of accidents on the road!

    4. mistersafeway

Are you using all three of these: TCS, ASM and ABS (unrealistic as the last one is)? No? There’s your answer guys, in real life the 370Z definitely has TCS and ABS, probably also ASM. If you turned off TCS and ASM it almost certainly WOULD try to spin in most corners when provoked. Also, if people drove it like this in real life they’d either be racing drivers or corpses, the reason people aren’t crashing these cars constantly in real life is because they don’t drive like this.

  16. DudySVK

Very good lap time and video, well done! but not very helpfull and i try to explen it. how many hours are you playing gt academy? 1 hour a day? or do you have family and childrens? i dont thing so. some people are very busy all day go to work for 10hrs, than family or do something. after all day they can try gt academy but at 10pm are tired. no chance to do great lap time like yours. i have time on gt academy 90 minutes a day 5 days per week, no more. i was on peagon power two weaks a go… i did the best lap time. i had 10 minutes i didnt know nothing about track and car. this is big different between all day players and all day busy players.
BTW if you did this lap after 3hrs you are the best player i have ever seen. if im correct i will see you in uk national event.

    1. Tidgney

      Hey :),

I don’t get much time in the week to play, so I play for between 30 minutes – 1 hour on a weekday due to working//commuting and all that. I’ll try to explain what I do though, in the week I try new things, lines, throttle inputs, braking point,s trail braking techniques, anything and everything really. When it comes to weekend (As I’m so tired in the week) I come to have a go on the event knowing what I need to do so last saturday I did about a total of 3 hours (Weird how you mentioned 3 hours to be fair :P, I know vibralux did his lap in 1 and a half!) across the day and got the .197 as shown in the video :). On Sunday I didn’t get much time as it was fathers day but a 20 minute stint after the meal got me my new .126.

Even with time constraints you can successfully put a lap together it’s just done over a longer period :)! Congratulations on your lap at Peagon power, I was going to head down but it was a busy weekend! Hopefully see you at the finals :)!

    2. DudySVK

no problem mate like i said: you are the best player i have ever seen. so probably you will go to the gt academy camp isnt? :)

    3. Tidgney

ahh trust me my friend, I’m not the best player on GT5 nor in the Academy. But at the nationals it really is what happens on the day, doesn’t matter how good you are, bad you are if you came in last in the academy, or your the fastest gt player on the planet (Which I’m not :P), anything can happen but enjoy the experience, last year was an amazing experience and I said to people if I didn’t make it again I would still be happy with the whole experience of the event that I had, had!

    4. DudySVK

i just wanted to say for many people its difficult to find time for gt academy and make a good lap. i wasnt last year i was on holiday and i cant wait for this year uk final. it will by my first experience.

you wrote: ” But at the nationals it really is what happens on the day, doesn’t matter how good you are, bad you are if you came in last in the academy, or your the fastest gt player on the planet (Which I’m not :P), anything can happen” this is what i want. i dont want to play with people they spend more time with GT5 than with wife in the bed :DDD

of course i will enjoy it.

    5. jimantonic

Very good point made by Dudy about time constraints, I myself fall victim to this, had a spare night to get on GT5 this week so spent an hour getting through round 7 and 8 1-4 and the last 20 minutes on the qualifying time trial, I’m almost 3 seconds slower than the fastest guy on my friends list, but knowing that he doesn’t work and has all the spare time he wants to throw at it makes me feel a little better about it!!

  17. thaisn

thanx for the breaking point on the second last corner…!

i have an 1:31:971 and i´m still 12th on the austrian leaderboard.
but i think i´ll have to improve at least half of a second to stay within the top16 after sunday
