GTPlanet’s GT6 Track of the Week: Widderhorn Renngarten

We’re back! It’s a new year, and a new week, which means another track plucked from our GT6 Track Database to show off. Like Week 12’s Circuito Hornachuelos, today’s pick is from the realm of fantasy. Where it differs, is the length…

GT6-Widderhorn-MapAt 6.22 miles, community member ck1yiaa‘s Widderhorn Renngarten is significantly longer than what has come before. Crammed full of challenging turns, it also gives throttle pedals everywhere a chance to get nice and intimate with the metal (or other footwell material), as the main straight stretches out to just slightly over a mile on its own. The variety of corners includes hairpins, blind apexes, and the sprawling, distinctive curve that gives the track its name.

The “Ramhorn” is just what you’d expect: a seriously high-speed, decreasing-radius turn that tests not only your car, but your commitment. It starts simply enough, with a gentle bend to the right, before curling for what seems like an eternity, requiring smooth braking and steering if you plan on bringing the car around at anything approaching a competitive pace. Just when you think you’ve got the process down, the tarmac heads skyward, into a tight left-hander, before taking you downhill again for the final few turns before the lap’s end.

The turns earlier in the lap aren’t exactly simple either, with an undulating series of S-bends demanding your utmost attention to get through cleanly. The final turn in this combo comes with a sharp crest that will put some air between your car and the track, so be careful.

My personal favourite is the fast, downhill right-left that leads into Ramhorn. Cars with significant downforce are pressed firmly into the track right as the first turn starts, and thanks to the banking, can take the kink at tremendous speeds. Nail the racing line, and it feels great.
