New Gran Turismo Movie Trailer Screened at CinemaCon 2023

Archie Madekwe as Jann Mardenborough with David Harbour as Jack Salter

The first trailer for the upcoming Gran Turismo feature film was screened to a limited audience at Sony Pictures’ CinemaCon 2023 presentation in Las Vegas. Two of the film’s most well-known stars, Orlando Bloom and David Harbour, also made a special appearance to reveal the new footage.

CinemaCon is an important event for the film industry where large movie studios offer early looks at upcoming projects. Gran Turismo was featured during the Sony’s presentation alongside Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Insidious: The Red Door, Kraven the Hunter, and 19 other films in development. Gran Turismo is also being promoted on-site with a special set of Gran Turismo 7 D-BOX motion rigs, shown off for the first time.

Although CinemaCon is not live-streamed and the audience for Sony’s event was restricted to those who work in the motion picture industry, early impressions about the new trailer have leaked and were very positive:

Entertainment news site TheWrap shared more specific details about what, exactly, is shown in the trailer:

In the trailer shown at CinemaCon, we see Jann arriving with other GT Academy contestants and being put through the wringer by racing trainer Jack Salter (David Harbour) who puts them through a rigorous boot camp to get them in shape. It’s one thing to know how to hit every corner on a world-class race track and to overtake in a simulation of a Nissan GT-R LM, but as Jann finds out, it’s hard to do it when the g-forces and hot temperatures of an actual race car are bearing down on you.

“If you miss a racing line in a game you can reset,” warns Jack. “If you miss it in a real race, you could die.”

We still don’t know when this new trailer will be released to the public, but with the movie’s release coming up on August 11, 2023 — just over three months away — there should not be much longer to wait.

For now, we will have to stick with the first “Sneak Peak” teaser released back in January:

Gran Turismo will, of course, follow the true story of 2011 GT Academy champion Jann Mardenborough, as he successfully made the leap from sim-racer to professional racing driver. Mardenborough will be played in the movie by Archie Madekwe, with Djimon Hounsou and Geri Halliwell playing his parents, David Harbour as a retired racer who mentors the youngster, and Orlando Bloom as a marketing executive.
