PC owners of the highly praised racing simulator can now enjoy benefits of the new 8.0 update from Slightly Mad Studios. The new update responds to several technical bugs and introduces few updates, of which we highlight the new support for Oculus Rift users and improved regulation of heating on under-inflated tires. The full list of fixes is as follows:

Vehicles

• McLaren F1 GTR – adjusted cockpit exposure, fixed visual clipping issues;
• Radical RXC Turbo – fixed typo in statistics file. Engine now correctly displays ‘V6’ instead of ‘V8’, fixed asymmetry typo in default setup spring rates;
• Lotus 51 – fixed a typo that would allow for 100 steps to rear fast rebound damper settings instead of 10. Default values were unaffected;
• Renault Megane RS265 – fixed typo causing asymmetry in default setup springs;
• KTM X-Bow – fixed clipping on the roof camera.

Tracks

• Cadwell Park – fixed an issue where cars driving on the main straight would hit the pit wall at a certain spot and be disqualified;
• Ruapuna (all layouts) – updated the position of the pit exit trigger, now it activates right after the start line. Full optimization pass done on all the layouts to improve performance.

Physics, Tires and Setups

• Further adjustment of heating on under-inflated tires where it was reduced as part of the discontinuity fix;
• Fixed issues with players not being able to save setups to DLC tracks, if they started their profile with older versions of the game.

Controllers

• Fixed OSW / DIY sim wheel driver crash in PID.DLL.

GUI

• DLC cars and tracks will now remain selected between game sessions;
• Fixed a bug where some tracks with forced rolling starts would lock out the rolling start option after moving to a different track.

UDP

• Extended joypad and D-pad bitfields to include some extra buttons on steering wheels. Added ‘same class as player’ flag in participant info mSector field. Fixed a couple of issues with packet types 1/2 not sending at the correct rate.

Render

• Fixed bloom not working correctly on any MSAA mode on PC.

Oculus Rift

• Updated to Oculus SDK 0.8 SDK.

    Thanks for link GrumpyGrumps, it seems you will have me giving this game another shot. However, as stated by myself and thegt500, the tutorial should be in the game, not on youtube. I have watched a few tuning videos, but, I am still a little confused because no one seems to know exactly what the developers intended, hence the trial and error and ambiguity. Plus, when I get into a car I would like it to handle somewhat like it would in “real life”, I really don’t like having to spend all that time getting the car to feel “right”.
    I do agree that once you get the settings “right” the car/game can be fun.

    It would be nice if they released an update that explains what some of the settings actually do, to eliminate some of the guesswork and trial and error in setting these cars up.
    At the moment the settings are just way too time consuming and ambiguous.
    At least they are fixing the bugs.

      There are any number of videos online explaining this very thing. The settings are only more time consuming than GT6, for example, because there are more settings to change. Now that I am comfortable with them I find that they actually have more of an effect on the handling of the car than the setup changes in GT6.

      This is a good place to start: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtpKkAuojT0

      Totally agree with you there Supra916 !
      I understand camber, toe in/out, ride height but WTH is slow/fast bump and rebound, bumpstop etc all about ?
      @GrumpyGrumps I appreciate your input and link, but surely the explanations to all the settings should be in-game ? There’s enough empty space on the tuning setup screens to have a summary of what does what and the expected results of changing them when you highlight them !
      With GT6 there is a summary of what to expect when you change something. OK, there aren’t as many setup options with GT as there are with PC, so there’s even more need for detailed info !

      @thegt500

      Isn’t there a short description of each setting and what it does? I know there is for stuff like ‘slow rebound’ and ‘fast rebound’. That said, the descriptions in GT6 are much more detailed for sure.

    Good one. 6GB+ though, yikes!

    Also, there is a new thumbnail on the “On Demand” PSN shortcut, a full racing version of the BMW 2002 Turbo (?), hinting a new car pack.

      Just looked it up and apparently it’s the Jan/16 Stanceworks track expansion, which includes at least 2 racing BMW’s (2002 and 1M) and a brilliant scottish track. Nice.
