Sony Comments on Christmas Release Date

GTPlanet prompted a flurry of media reports after we first discovered an SCEE executive’s comments on a Christmas 2009 Gran Turismo 5 release date.  Unsuprisingly, the story has rapidly spread across the web, making its way right back to Sony where it originated.  From a statement to VideoGamer.com today:

“Polyphony are working on GT5, but we cannot confirm a launch date at this point in time,” said a Sony Computer Entertainment UK spokesperson.

This, of course, isn’t surprising, given that Mr. Armstrong’s Christmas ’09 prediction was either revalation of internal company expectations or his own personal prediction.  Only time will tell!

I really believe that GT5 will be released by 2010. And you must realize Christmas 2009 is right before 2010. There will probably be delays though, so expect it to be later than what Sony says.

Everyone who has followed the last few Gran Turismo games know that they didn’t get final concrete release dates until they more or less arrived in the shops. Once Japan get it, it will take between 5-12 months before it will arrive in the US and Europe’s stores. So lets just all use our patience and wait. Given what Prologue is like, and all the things that Polyphony have talked about and shown us what they are doing and changing, I’m very optimistic that the wait will be worth it.
