Yamauchi: GT5 Trailer Shows “Very Small Portion” of Game

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrfTr6rBusk

Editor Jeff Rubenstein from the “Official” PlayStation Blog interviewed Kazunori Yamauchi last month during E3, and has just now shared the video with the world.  For regular GTPlanet readers, there’s nothing here that you don’t already know.  However, Yamauchi made a few interesting comments that are catching some attention:

“We always set very high goals and ideals for our games, and the GT5 trailer that you saw [at E3] is a very small portion of what we’re working on.  And as long as we actually achieve our goals and fulfill our expectations, I’m sure it would set the new industry standard.”

Jeff also invited questions in the accompanying blog post, mentioning that “US producers” for GT PSP will be leaving their own post on the PlayStation Blog soon.  So, if you missed out on the first chance to submit questions, head on over to their comments and leave a friendly note.

What amazes me is how alot of people seem to think they are experts on how to launch a title of GTs magnitude, if you know better than them why are you here and not in the industry making your own games and releasing them.

Even NFS Shift has a constant flow of communication, with the Car of the Day for their Twitter followers. Hi Rez images with a brief car description. PD/SONY really need to step up and use the simple tools available to them.

come on mr yamauchi, do the good people a favour and give them a release date! @NIKO – i totally agree that GT5 is going to be huge after reading ur comment on how FM3 has less features

  4. Obli

Notmad said “Audi 90 quattro, 720hp. Need to have this car…”

Yes, that would be awesome! Any beefed-up five-cylinder quattro from the 80s would be fantastic. I’m not biased – I drive an Audi 90 2.3 20v :D

    @FM3….
“Dre@m on GT5 fanboys GT5 will never come out so buy Xbox and forza 3”

    Oh Hai Mr Greenawalt!

I’ll buy Forza when you add at least 4 more cars to a race, ATLEAST!!! and when the performance dont drop when you try in-car view.

Why would a GT5 trailer be shown at E3 09 if it was to be released in E4 2010, it makes no sence, if its not out by the end of this year then im sorry to say im buying an x box.

A major fact many of you have [apparently] forgotten or missed in that interview; it happened AT E3. What have we learned this side of E3????? Does, “we can release it anytime” ring a bell???

See, this is just one more hunk of meat to keep us chewing through the summer. It seems every week we get some little bit. What did we learn from that interview that we did not know before? KY said that the teaser is “a very small portion…”.

As for falling back on this 2010 release, the only reason that has happened in the past is because the release was not global. A GT game traditionally hits shelves in time for the Christmas shopping season. Being that GT5 is to be a GLOBAL release, you must be thinking that the game won’t be out until Christmas 2010!

I’m very afraid that PD cannot fulfill the market’s standards and expectation with the actual game architecture (i.e. improved physics, [[CAR DAMAGE]], new collision system, etc) and that’s why they keep avoiding game related questions, hoping to make time for the re-development.

  11. Nomino

    1. I’ve long belived that a 2010 release is likely.
    2. LMAO at those who are crying and going to buy a 360 and Forza 3 – we’ll see you when GT5 launches eh?
    3. ROLMFAO @ riph…GT5 is so different from other racing games huh? What, so it has like rockets and space ships too? Maybe a bit of FPS action mixed in?! LOL

  12. Crispy

Yep I agree with Riph 100%
And I could have sworn this site was Gran Turismo Planet, so why are the xbox fanbois coming on here telling everyone that they’re going to go and get an xbox with forza!!

That’s very nice for you…go get one!! Me on the other hand, I have no intention of spunking my cash on yet another console just so I can play racing game, as I can quite happily wait for the release of GT5 as my mindset is…’It comes out when it comes out’, moaning and whining isn’t going to make it come out any quicker, and besides I’m sure it’ll be worth the wait :)

  13. Andy

The trailer didnt show much? well the official information showed us even less Kazanouri!

I know the final product will be amazing, and worth waiting for, but at least give us something to look forward to…

Who wants to play Forza go buy it now & stop pressuring PD.. already said before GT5 is so different than other racing games & they the dont bother with it. what they want do is to make it the best as possible & for satisfaction gamers & for themselves..

  16. Artie37

I think that its cool that they are not releasing much information so there wont be as much hype. I remember with GTA4 how excited i was about the game from all the hype but it ended up being disappointing. I think that Polyphony is playing it smart by not releasing many details, it makes it mysterious and makes me want it even more.

  17. George

Exceedingly long development cycles often result in a final product that is behind the curve. So far PD has gotten away with it but that can’t last forever. If NFS Shift is half as good as they say it will be in pro mode (we’ll find out in Sept.) it may surpass GT5 physics. 700 cars and 100 tracks won’t matter if something else offers a better driving experience. SHIFT looks as good if not better than GT5P, has Porsche, Lamborghini, damage, 16 cars on track, etc. along with the Ring and other great tracks.

  18. Colert

Yeah me to 5 years working on gt5 no information no release date , i also buy xbox and forza 3

  19. Enciah

Entertainment is not reading news about gt5…but playing the game.

GT5 is not a great game, it will be after release!!

  20. Ignasi

^That could be your point of wiew, but I prefear a game really HUGE (that’s how it sounds from the interview) with a lot of quality than a game that was made by a hurry. I I don’t want a game incomplete that next you have to pay for extra content.
And take this words from Kazunori san: “I’m sure it would set the new industry standard.” This sentence it’s very important, I thing here is the key of the information.

If you want to buy an Xobx, go and buy it. But just compare both trailers.

  21. Jack_uk

I honestly cannot wait for even the slightest bit of news to come out even if to say that the cars will have reverse lights, I wouldn’t care THIS GAME WILL BE EPIC. Actually waiting for the game builds more & more tension and making us more excited for one of the greatest of all time

  22. Alan

Im getting a bit bored with all this news and no release date, think i might go out and buy myself an x box with forza, are u listening sony, that is the mind set that is creeping in now with gamers, get the thumb out

  23. Jake

For some reason, I got the sense that this game might not be out for a while from this interview. Like Q3 or Q4 2010… hope I’m wrong and that GTPlanet is more accurate!

  24. GT

Whe need some info about GT5!

weather effects , damage , Number of cars , number of tracks, release date

Suzuki escudo XL7 pikes peak night races

  25. Aaron

“a very small portion” i like the sound of that..that mean GT5 is gonna be HUGE on an epic scale!!!

  26. DaveTheStalker

They showed off damage, NASCAR, WRC, highlighted the Ring, Indy, and a race version of the GTR. All of which are a pretty big. That means there are some big bombs yet to be dropped!

  27. jereweeti

I don’t like the sound of the verb “working on”. This might show a path to a 2010 release, which I am definately not happy about.
