Forza Motorsport 6 Announced with New Ford GT as Cover Car

d89b6691-3c4b-42c6-89a0-00420eb3bcb2

As you’ve probably heard by now, all eyes of the automotive world were on the North American International Auto Show this Monday for the unveiling of the new Ford GT. It’s a radical car, set to produce more than 600HP from a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine, complete with a full carbon-fiber body and active aerodynamics to compete with Europe’s finest.

For sim racers, the car is also making waves: the new Ford GT was confirmed as the cover car for Forza Motorsport 6, which was also announced at the NAIAS show.

Gran Turismo 4This could be considered a coup for the Forza franchise: Kazunori Yamauchi has remarked in the past that the Ford GT is his “favorite car design”, and he actually owns two of them in his personal collection. The previous generation of the Ford GT was also featured as the cover car for Gran Turismo 4.

While our resident Forza fans will be happy to learn a new version of the game is coming (though we don’t know exactly when), Gran Turismo fans should also take note. Turn 10 and Polyphony Digital have subtly complemented each other’s flagship game releases over the past decade, and it will be interesting to see how Kazunori’s team eventually responds.

With Project CARS releasing this March (with a GTPlanet-liveried car, no less) on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, both Forza and Gran Turismo will be pressed to compete harder on their respective platforms, possibly making the year ahead a very interesting one for racing game fans.

Sounds like it was a rush job…I don’t see what they can add or improve on from 5 in a little over a year that isn’t something a patch wouldn’t do better, unless this is the true Forza 5, and the one released in 2013 was just a Prologue.

    1. PsuPepperoni

It will probably just be a re-textured Forza 5 but with some features removed like shuffle racing and the course creator.

    2. Johnnypenso

More cars and tracks obviously. Better physics, better tire model, better sounds, weather, better more comprehensive career mode…same as any other game.

    3. drag lab 101

Maybe a lot of folks don’t realize this… 5 was a complete rebuild. It wasn’t a -port- if you will of 1-4. 5 was a fresh build from start on a new system. This is why a lot of content wasn’t included when it’s compared to 4. Where as in 4 they were still following a formula such as GT follows where it was built already of the pervious 3-2-1. 6 will just be all the added adaptations that weren’t ready for 5’s rebuild… It’ll be more advanced for their series as you’d expect the next GT to be.
Being that it’s going back to the formula of being built off the pervious game again.. It can be done quicker and ect ect.
It’s not like this is a new practice for devs of any genre. But perhaps for the uninformed it’ll help them to understand the state and the progress of this particular series.

    4. Johnnypenso

A lot of GT fans don’t understand the concept of “complete rebuild”…lol. Many are clamoring for the inclusion of 10+ year old assets into a 2015 game so how can we expect them to understand what it means to rethink your franchise from the ground up and ensure that all the assets are of equal quality. Maybe that’s why Forza 5 is the fastest selling Forza ever and GT6 is…well GT6.

    5. Johnnypenso

I don’t see how we could call GT6 rushed to market when it was a full 3 years since it’s predecessor and fully 9 years after the PS3 came along.

    6. Zelalem

      @ Craze63AMG
Turn10 didn’t develop Horizon, that means they have at least worked 2 years on FM6 when it comes out later this year. More than enough time for a team with over 250 people at Turn10 and additional help from outsourcing studios. And possible playground games which developed Horizon 2 and work on the engine with Turn10.

  2. Maddens Raiders

You lot can keep this semi-annual arcade garbage from T10 in your consoles all you want. Give me my forever-to-make GT and all it’s “flaws”. It’s still tops for me.

  3. jhw93

I have already posted a comment on here but I have to say after reading the comments I have to see I somewhat agree with a lot of people.

There were a lot of problems with GT5/GT6 and I think the arrival of FM6 is a great thing because it will encourage PD to re-think about there approaches to making their games.

    I think there are key things that need to be improved or changed for GT7 such as;
    – Get Rid of standard cars
    – Improve Audio
    – Improve AI
    – Improve Damage Models
    – Larger and more creative Career mode
    – Manufacturer Events (Like GT2)
    – More advanced and In depth car customisation
    – More attractive and intuitive menu systems (GT4 with the map thing was ace)

I think these improvements would make GT7 a far better game than it predecessors, GT6 was an improvement over GT5 imo but I also felt the career mode was the shortest and least developed it’s ever been.

Despite GT6s flaws it was still a great game, I like forza but I still think GT nails the sense of realism better. I can’t put my finger on it but Forza still feels like a video game where GT feels more convincing and real.

I think sony could help as well by making sure PD has not only more staff but also staff that it really needs. I got the impression from recent events that PD doesn’t have much of an audio department for example.

I will end this by saying that there are criticisms that cannot really be applied to GT anymore such as the car list being Japanese heavy. The main reason why it’s so japanese car heavy is because GT5/GT6 has standard cars which are from the GT4 car list. Assuming that GT7 does not have any standard cars, the car list being japanese heavy will not be as much of an issue.

  4. OpticZero

PD really needs to get with the program. Forza is already looking at it’s third title for the current generation of hardware, while PD has barely started working on it’s first.

…not to mention that they are now tied on major titles, even though PD has about a decade lead.

Please, PD, blow us away with GT7. You might need to do so in order to be allowed to make GT8.

    1. HarVee

Well what do you want them to do? Release a new GT game every year? If they did that then the games would of even worse quality then they currently are.

  5. vrossi

Turn 10 makes games for casuals. That’s why Forza always has, & always will be irrelevant.
Developers have been doing night & rain for years. Now Turn 10 will try & get it’s sheep excited about it.

    1. Justin

Your comment could easily apply to GT as well.

Also, people really should be happy there are more games to compete with GT as it can only lead to good things for everyone.

    2. hardvibes

      @vrossi

“Turn 10 makes games for casuals.”
Not true at all. This just proves you know absolutely nothing about Forza Motorsport series.

“Developers have been doing night & rain for years.”
Developers have also been doing intuitive/fast/fun multiplayer, real custom liveries, real body customization, marketplace, engine swap, leaderboards, real-time advanced telemetry, all detailed cars, communication with the fanbase for years.

      So what’s your point?
It’s all about choices. Good and bad.

“That’s why Forza always has, & always will be irrelevant.”
      Your comment…is irrelevant.

  6. drag lab 101

Did Johnny P kill and eat TOKO???

There for absorbing his forum/commenting powers?!

    Lol

    I love it personally!

    1. Johnnypenso

Lol….Toko is Canadian but I’m not sure where he lives. We should meet up and post a photo on GTP…lol.

  7. GTHEAD87

This sounds awesome. I was one of the ones that moaned about how little content FM5 had. Glad it picked up though, I’m so tempted to get an Xbox just for Forza. At least FM6 will have a good foundation to be built on.

I’m not sorry if this offends anyone. GT has nothing to offer other than the way the cars physics are. FM is definitely how GT should be content wise by now.

    1. Johnnypenso

Forza is over 300 full premiums last I checked. At the rate they are going, if you throw out all of GT’s duplicate counting of Nascar models, base models and cars with minor variations, Forza 6 should surpass GT7’s premium car count handily.

  8. Rubencho

Good for them but as far as I remember reading the first reviews from FM5 almost everyone was complaining about it and the Nurburgring arrived a year after its release (yes as free DLC but a year later) and it really felt as a rushed game.

The era of need for speed has passed and Forza and GT seems to have a dim light… maybe it’s time to migrate to something else

    1. liv4hardstyle

Don’t get me wrong I love GT but your comment is rich in irony. I don’t think I need to go into detail just take a look at the release of gt5 onwards..

    2. Rubencho

@liv4hardstyle mm not irony, that is what happened and it is not the only game which seems to be rushed… not going to far the back case for GT6 said “access and create online events with web based enabled devices” is this implemented yet?

long gone are the days where you buy a finished game :S

    3. rocketcaron

See, you remember reading about it. Thats as far as your opinion about this game goes. But early impressions of the game reported by other individuals (and who are they really?) used to make your own opinion of the game is a bit thin don’t you think?

Its easy to understand why they came up with these reviews. Microsoft wanted FM5 to be a launch title. FM releases once every 2 years and it was pretty much spot on on the calendar. Now, they did press the reset button and redid almost everything (environments, physics, car models, menus, etc…) so content wise they had to restrict the amount of stuff available if they wanted to be on time.

And it was the right decision. The driving part of the game is better than it ever AND it was a console seller for Microsoft. Now we are getting ready for the whole enchilada and its going to be awesome. I also happen to think GT7 should be an eye opener. Golden age of console racing games if you ask me.

And this was the right decision ’cause they

    4. Rubencho

@rocketcaron I hope so dude, I really enjoyed the Forzas released for X360, I think I even played more FM4 than GT6, Rivals mode is simply awesome.

Haven’t tried any next gen racing game yet… as for now I build a PC and maybe skip this console generation

  9. Kratos_Q8

sadly but i will say : i hop forza 6 and PCARS destroys GT7 with and open heart ! so that PD stops treating us like slaves , listen to us and have a freakin feedback official forums

    1. pasigiri

i hop forza 6 and PCARS destroys GT7?????

I didn’t know IHOP made racing sims. Dang good pancakes though.

      J/K!!! I couldn’t help it.

    2. pasigiri

I agree (my wife is Thai and her English gets messed up sometimes). I didn’t mean it maliciously, hence the J/K. Sorry Kratos_Q8, and anbody else, if I offended you or anybody else. Seriously, I didn’t mean it that way and I’m sorry.

… besides, most fluent English speaking people can’t speak English properly. I mean come on, “raise down the window” or “up under the table”, comments I’ve used ????

    3. Johnnypenso

No worries mate, I only mention it because the mods frown upon making fun of someone’s English, even with the j/k.

    4. Tenacious D

If I was in PD, I wouldn’t visit this place. And if I was in SONY, I’d demand extra hazard pay to participate in this madhouse.

    5. drag lab 101

@ TenD.. I truely understand what you’re saying.. But I must add that, that stance/view… Makes it look like you already work for PD!

Let’s face it.. That is exactly one of there problems.
Out of touch… Even if it’s with a community that’s so jaded.

    6. Johnnypenso

You’re under the assumption that PD staff are weak minded and have the constitution of a flower petal and will somehow be crushed by honest feedback. Or perhaps that they aren’t intelligent enough to see through the rage and get to the core issues being raised. If you want to find out how the hardcore fans really feel about your game, this is the place to be. If you want to bury your head in the sand and pretend all is well with the franchise, avoid the internet altogether…lol.

    7. Tenacious D

Look, there’s no reason for anyone to suffer abuse over a video game, and the mods would have to make a serious announcement that absolutely no abusive language will be tolerated, or I wouldn’t blame anyone from PD or SONY from staying net miles away from this place. NeoGAF is almost civil sometimes in comparison to this place.

Out of touch? I assume you mean that they kept Zahara out of our hands for most of last year and haven’t given us the Course Maker because they’re meanies…

    8. drag lab 101

Actually I wouldn’t say something as ridiculous as being a meanies… I’m 35 & not a child, so a DEV not delivering something that I may persoanlly want isn’t a grudge against only me!
However, to deny that PD is out of touch, which is a common topic for years around here.. Is to deny the amount of POLY-kookaid one might be drinking!

    9. Johnnypenso

@TenD – “suffer abuse over a videogame”? You have zero perspective because you are on a one-track narrative. GTP is the best, most polite, most well behaved motorsport gaming forum on the entire internet. NeoGaf is laced with profanity and tolerates abuse of it’s own and other gamers, how you can compare the two is ridiculous. It also has about 1/100th of the GT content content of GTP and is the place where game save hacking found a home for GT5 and GT6. It’s an insult to GTP and Jordan to even compare the two.

It gets harder and harder to take you seriously with every post you make but I cannot abide people who spew blatant falsehoods and outright lies because they have a rabid attachment to a game.

    10. Wider

Slaves? Who do you think the game is made for? Like seriously, they’ve already said it’s hard to make games on PS3. Basicaly you could only compare GT6 to FM4 because FM5 is totaly a different thing. It’s a next-gen game. Why is everyone not pleased with GT6. Does anyone see the hard work they’ve done and FM series lacked for quite some time? And with bad hardware, with not that much people? With passion in motorsport and with love for cars? Everyone who doesn’t see it isn’t a real petrolhead. Couse what do you have hear are years of work. Now think about it, at least for a sec before you write another stupid complaint. GTplanet is for GT players and real GT player doesn’t write what does he hate about the game aal the time. Shame on those who do… I’m glad with the game even tho I know it has some issues. It’s just everytime I play it I really enjoy the racing and that’s what this game is all about. Forget what’s missing, take what you have and race. If you’re not satisfied tell PD or buy something else. And let GT series be GT series. Maybe I don’t actually know that much about other series, but I know about GT series. DONE

    11. Johnnypenso

“Maybe I don’t actually know that much about other series, but I know about GT series. DONE”

That’s all you had to say really.

  10. mister dog

Darn, reading some of the reactions here it seems there is a lot of jealousy when people see a news article on GT planet related to developers that do get their **** straight. I’m sure FM6 will be a fantastic game as will PCARS. GT7… who knows when it will be released and if PD will have finally listened to their fan base, or it will be just another personal ‘vision’ of its founder.

  11. z71L28

That Ford GT is sick! Hope it’ makes it’s way to GT6 as DLC. As for GT6, I hope PD is foucsing all thair time and resources on new content for GT6. I don’t plan on buying a PS4 or GT7. You go out and spend $560+ only to find standerd ruf’s and supra RZ. No thanx.

  12. Makkan786

Hmmm noobs will be very happy with this news i can imagine ford gt drifting in forza 6 at 200mph on grass!!!

  13. Amac500

Say what you want about PD’s timeline for doing things, but when they do something they do take the time and make it good. Forza is sure bordering on becoming an annual release kind of game, and I’m not a fan of what that does to quality. This is why Forza won’t be able to match up with Gran Turismo, especially if they are alternating Horizon and Motorsport releases every year. If I was a Forza guy, I would really look at changing to P-Cars.

    1. Halcyon925

I agree with everything that you said, indefintely. +1,000

Forza has never caught up to Gran Turismo in terms of how the game should be. GT is for people who have a passion for cars and love to race a large variety of them. Forza is for people who want a game to keep them occupied with some entertainment for a few hours. As for me, I love GT’s reason to be played. If Forza does end up as a Activision/Treyarch kind of thing, but with one company, then it will turn out to be complete trash.

Project Cars is a good alternative to Forza because they are very similar. Although, Project Cars is trying to be like GT; except with a smaller car list and worse physics. I would like Polyphony to not get hasty about finishing GT7 early because of Turn 10’s possible intentions to rush GT7. If I were Kaz, I would hold off everything that would ‘roast’ Turn 10 until the trailers for GT7 are released.

The biggest thing that PD could do is either add the new Ford GT to GT6 for free before Forza 6’s release. Or, they could add it to GT7, which will probably come out before Forza 6. If Turn 10 is actually smart for once, then they would take their time with their games. And they should know not to mess with Polyphony when it comes to getting cars before release, or announcement.

Cars put in GT before actual release:
      1. Mitsubishi Evolution X
      2. Ford GT
      3. Nissan GT-R
      4. Corvette C7 (freaking camo)
      5. Tommy Kaira ZZII (Gran Turismo 2)

Turn 10 could have waged war. They could have convinced Polyphony let us drive the Ford GT first.

    2. Johnnypenso

“Although, Project Cars is trying to be like GT; except with a smaller car list and worse physics.”
Man, you have no clue what Project Cars is about…lol.

    3. Halcyon925

Project Cars is an obivous GT clone, but with a different take on how the game is portrayed. Basically, most racing games after the original Gran Turismo came out was inspired by Gran Turismo. That includes what you see on PC and on consoles. And if I am wrong, than what is the real purpose of Project Cars?

    4. Johnnypenso

You are wrong. Beyond cars and tracks, which all racing games, there is little similarity between PCars and Forza/GT. PCars is a racing simulator from the ground up. There is no game economy, no modding of cars either visually or with parts upgrades beyond a livery editor (PC only AFAIK), no garage to build, tuning is real world, meaning you won’t be adjust the LSD on pure street cars or throwing racing suspensions on them. Cars come with very limited tire options, basically what the car came with in real life, with tire models that are era specific. No RS available on street cars in other words.

The usual driving aids are available, but the game is geared pretty much exclusively towards racing and time trials. There are no cones to knock over, no moon missions, no chase the rabbit races. Full race weekends including practice/qualifying/racing. All adjustable, all scalable. Full career mode based on real world cars and careers and full length real world seasons.

Every aspect of the game is adjustable/tunable/scalable. Take GT’s ability to customize gameplay and multiply by 5 to 10 and you’re in the right neighbourhood. Basically everything everyone ever wanted on the racing side of GT, is in PCars, and more.

      Does that answer your question?

    5. Tenacious D

Yeah, Johnny, it was such a simulation it was delayed within 24 hours of Assetto Corsa 1.0 being released, right? I’m pretty sure about that. ;-)

And look, that was really Microsoft level timing and CYA. But one thing about it, the delay hopefully meant a couple more tracks, some more cars which it really needs – just not a fan of single make racing, and a physics boost to bring it up to AC standards. Otherwise, the only game PD will be setting their sights on is Forza 6.

I kind of see where Dan G is coming from, but if they don’t hire a few more Vietnamese modelers, it may be Forza 8 where we finally get a next gen equivalent to F4.

    6. Johnnypenso

You have no clue what you’re talking about and I’ve explained this to you already. They are not adding more content with the extra 4 months of time they bought by delaying the release. They are working exclusively on working out the bugs and kinks with the simulation. You know, the exact kind of thing that PD should have done with both GT5 and GT6 instead of expecting us to buy half finished games full of bugs and then just suffer along while they take a year or two to work everything out. How are you enjoying the Course Maker by the way? In the PCars forum on GTP the almost universal sentiment has been praise for doing the right thing and not releasing a half finished game like PD does.

Having played AC extensively, I can say it is as much competition in racing simulation as Need For Speed is to GT. AC has wonderful physics, it’s an absolute joy to drive cars in the game and well worth the experience just for that. Open modding has me sitting with 60+ tracks and 75+ cars and hundreds of liveries and that part is awesome as well. But the online experience is barebones at best and and the offline career is pretty barebones as well. The AI are light years ahead of GT in just about every aspect of course as are most games and the racing is still enjoyable, but it’s not a next gen game on the scale of Project Cars in any way except for driving feel and physics.

  14. Unai

I wish they allowed Logitech G27 with the Xbox One, then I would buy it with this game and screw Gran Turismo forever! I had the chance of playing Forza 4 and it was so superior to GT in all aspects that it wasn’t even funny.

  15. MrWaflz55

No doubt they trademarked and stole all the rights to the car, so kaz can’t put the next gen of his favourite car in gt6/7

    1. Johnnypenso

How does a videogame maker trademark a car? If they stole the rights, don’t you think Ford would have something to say about it?

    2. Unai

Ha, that if Kaz has any intention of putting this car in the game at all. Knowing him, he probably won’t. He will put the newest Honda Fit instead, of course.

    3. Johnnypenso

You know Kaz? Can you text him and find out when the Course Maker is coming and when GT7 is due to release?

    4. Halcyon925

Kaz put the C7 on GT5 back before it was even announced. Don’t think that Polyphony won’t let us GT players drive the new Ford GT before the Forza players. That would be humiluating for Turn 10.

    5. RACECAR

@MrWaflz55: I don’t think you even slightly understand what “Trademarked” means.

Also, “stole all the rights”? Where in the wide world of sports do you even get that kind of illogical information from?

    6. MrWaflz55

@RACECAR EA stole the rights to every Porsche car so other games can’t get it. I know how copyright works

    7. MrWaflz55

@RACECAR And I think you know what I mean, buying out the rights or getting there first, it’s a commonly practiced business tactic.

    8. Johnnypenso

It’s not a business tactic, it is business, period. It’s always in your best interest as a business to acquire something and lock out your competitor from getting access to it if possible, and if it makes economic sense for you to do so. And I’d challenge your understanding of “copyright”, which has zero application in this case. Look up “licensing” instead.

“A license may be granted by a party (“licensor”) to another party (“licensee”) as an element of an agreement between those parties. A shorthand definition of a license is “an authorization (by the licensor) to use the licensed material (by the licensee).”

    9. RACECAR

Except as Johnnypenso has explained, its called “Licensing”. Turn 10/Microsoft have licensed the 2015 Ford GT and likely have done a possible timed exclusivity where it appears in their game first then everything else second (just as they did with the SRT Viper, just as EA did with the Pagani Huayra and just as PD/Sony did with the Chevy Corvette C7).

So no, there is no “Stealing rights” going on here, only licensing deals that the manufacturer agreed to (including Porsche who agreed to this exclusive deal they have with EA).

    10. MrWaflz55

@Johnnypenso, Sorry I meant just buying out the rights, I don’t know what I was doing putting in stealing. I had the idea in my head but I just didn’t know how to word it any better

  16. GothicVillas

I completely agree with you. I just recently fired up ps3 to try th8a h-shifter in gt6. It took me about 3hrs to download and install latest update!! After all that it left me disappointed, gt6 looked dated and tired. I do remember times when gt5 felt top notch and all that. But since i have tasted Driveclub and Assetto Corsa, it was painful to watch and play. Just to add, i’ve been with GT since ps1. It just shows how quick we become spoiled.

  17. jhw93

I don’t own an Xbone nor do I play FM but it will be interesting to see what they come up with. I imagine FM6 will for the most part the same as FM5 but just with more content, hopefuly they add weather and day/night options for FM players this time round.

I think this is a sign that PD should be going full steam into developing GT7 (which they probably are). I have had my moneys worth out of GT6, it was a great game but it’s time to move on now. There’s still the elephant in the room which is the course creator but to be honest I think it would be pointless adding it to GT6, you would only be satisfying a few disgruntled individuals by adding it.

I think I might buy Assetto Corsa as to me it looks like GT6 if it was on PC, the resemblance is uncanny sometimes. Driveclub is also great, loving the new DLC every month so yeah there’s games to keep me occupied until GT7 comes along.

I imagine we may see GT7 at E3, perhaps a demonstration.

    1. Johnnypenso

In terms of lighting and the overall look of the environment, GT is actually better than AC. The lighting in GT is hard to beat. But AC will be much crisper and run much smoother, the framerates are dependent on your PC of course, but achieving a solid 60fps/1080p or higher, is pretty easy. Where it excels is the driving experience, the coordination of the audio, visual and FFB is miles ahead of GT (with a wheel, can’t speak for controllers) and the physics sort of make GT feel arcadish by comparison. It’ll take some adjusting but once you get the hang of it you’ll drive just for the pure visceral feel of the experience…or at least I do…lol.

    2. Chameleon9000

One problem; everyone will be peeved if PD doesn’t add everything they promised. They really locked themselves in with this one.

  18. Tvensky

Gt6 was a mistake.. they do bouble work, they need to drop and forget about gt6 ASAP and focus on ps4 gt 7…. I don’t even have a ps3, it’s old, it’s slow.. After Ps4 I can’t even think about ps3…

    1. Chameleon9000

One problem; everyone will be peeved if PD doesn’t add everything they promised. They really locked themselves in with this one.

    2. Amac500

Well I think PD ran up against a deadline to release GT6 because of the PS4 release, and that’s why so many features are missing. And yeah, they have to make good on their word or else the word “lawsuit” will be tossed around in certain corners.

    3. occasionalracer

GT6 was not a mistake, just because PD doesn’t talk/announce much about their progress on PS4’s title (or historically on anything) it doesn’t mean they are putting energy into GT6 anymore. Remember PD would have been some of the first to have access to the PS4 development kits, so really they been laying the groundwork for at least 2 years now.

GT6 is great for all those around the world who are happy to even own a PS3, PS4 being an unreachable purchase.. so GT6 can serve the rest of PS3’s life with grace until it (and online gameplay) fades into history around 2017. The game will still sell slowly but surely over the next 2 years.

      I just hope GT7 hits stores around Q3 (2015)… : )

  19. Phathead555

I just love how everyone is so fixated on GT7 when we haven’t even finished getting GT6 yet. Perhaps more emphasis should be stressed upon delivering the quality game that was originally promised to the millions of people that ponyed-up the money for what has been far less than GT5 just so Kaz can go support his racing program. Why should I believe that the next iteration will be any better considering the lack-luster emphasis given to the current version, and the loss of focus by the creator of the franchise? Starting to wonder if I should sue for false advertising to get my money back.

    1. Jack The Ripper

I couldn’t have said it any better. I’m not buying gt7 on the day of release like I did for gt6, which I still deeply regret. I haven’t touched that game in months. Here’s hoping project cars gives us what gran turismo cannot.

    2. Tenacious D

Maybe Kaz and the team should focus on the next generation, since the PS3 has just about been drained of horsepower, and doesn’t have much left to manage shadows properly.

With P CARS and Forza 6 in the pipeline, both on next gen consoles (and PC), do you reaally want Kaz to focus on the LAST generation? I don’t. I want to own a real Gran Turismo that runs on a system with serious grunt.

    3. Johnnypenso

I think as a minimum Kaz/PD/Sony owe it to give their best to GT6, same as they would any other game. We paid good money for the game, millions of us, and we deserve the full support for the life of the game that GT5 got, which cost the same amount of money. Remember, we didn’t choose for GT6 to be on the PS3, they did, we chose to support their decision with our $$$$ and we deserve their support in return.

  20. FosterG

I am pretty excited about this news. I am assuming that the game will be much more of what Forza 5 (still a great game) should have been. By then, some of the other games should be out too, this will put intense pressure on PD to maybe change parts of their philosophy and put out the game GT fans have been waiting on for years. I hope so as I don’t even bother firing up GT6 now, takes more than VGT. I look forward to Forza 6 in the meantime, gonna be great.

    1. Tenacious D

I want Kaz and the team to make sure GT7 is the best it can be on PS4 too, but I sure could use a teaser right now. Running around Zahara is a kick in the pants, but wow, those shadows in the replays and the sparse backgrounds sure reinforce the fact that this is a last gen game.

I’d love to see a panoramic shot with a flying camera zooming across Apricot Hill, High Speed Ring or Zahara full of trees and foliage, built with some sort of efficient tool like SpeedTree. And loads of trackside detail. DIRTY trackside detail. Kaz, remember how Tsukuba and Suzuka look halfway through the season. In fact, maybe that trackside gritty detail could change through the GT7 season. Kaz, make it so!

    1. Tenacious D

I agree to a point. Those early 2000s Ford GTs are pure sports car bliss and they will always be among my faves, especially the fantasy racing versions in Gran Turismo. But that new F GT… I’m digging that.

    2. Tvensky

In a video game I doubt it will be much different.. Even with the right setup.. And most users are using controller.. LoL

  21. Blood*Specter

What will make Gran Turismo a great game………again?:

    Next Gen Console
Keep wheel compatibility open to GT6 standards.
Update Standard cars to next gen premium.
    Refined driving dynamics/feel.
    Better engine/tire/ambient sound field.
    More New/Classic Cars.
    More real world tracks.
Bring back select classic real and fictional tracks.
Insure proper classes are provided for all racing cars.
Insure proper cars are allowed/disallowed in each class.
Give room owners more control over “EACH” tuning part allowed in their rooms.
Create street/modified drag racing seasonal events.
Realistic vehicle specifications. I.E. weights and measures.
    Realistic suspension and aerodynamic adjustments.
Ability to change liveries for racing cars.
Introduce FIA GT series cars, especially GT3 (Ferrari, McLaren, Aston, Bentley Lambo Corvette, Ford GT).

Introduce WTCC Racing Series cars and tracks.
Introduce V8 Super Cars and Tracks.

All the add on features like course creator mean nothing if the feel of the game is off.
bring more realistic feeling to GT or loose customers to Forza, Project Cars and the rest.
GT is running in last place now, just based on the lack of engine sounds and handling feel and realistic car response to mechanical adjustments. PD and Kaz need to step it up period.

    1. lpardelha

i think you said it all ;)

      but:

“Realistic vehicle specifications. I.E. weights and measures.
      Realistic suspension and aerodynamic adjustments.”

at the beginning of all Gran Turismo warn that some specifications may not correspond to reality, some may even be correct in some markets and different in others.

Gran Turismo series has grown and the PD is also hard to follow the new “rivals” with larger budgets.
Then there are the purists who want more road cars and fictional circuits against those who want more race cars and original circuits, Kaz have to find the balance point.

    2. lpardelha

in GT7 for PS4 there is still an unsolved problem, the compatibility of wheels, I have a logitech G27 and while it is good I do not want and do not have money to exchange for other compatible

    3. TeamCZRRacing

I’m afraid it’s impossible to keep wheel compatibility with GT6. The PS4 uses the new XID control interface, which Logitech wheels (among others) are incompatible with. It’s not something that can be fixed in-game.

  22. Benny44

Am I the only one that is fed up with hearing “eco-boost”? It’s a bloody turbo, as far as I can tell. It’s been around since around 1980 in cars (Saab I believe). Foolishness I say!

  23. Lambob

as I gaze, into my crystal ball, into the future, I see… I see… Everyone playing GT7 and nobody playing Forza 12, 11, nor 10 for that matter!
/evil wicked witch laugh, Dorothy grabs hold of Toto.

  24. gtfanforlife

Oh, I see how it is… Stealing Gran Turismo’s ideas… Gran Turismo had the Ford GT on their cover before it was cool…

    1. Progress823

+1 – imitation = the sincerest form of flattery; even with the imperfections of PD and GT, T10 does this.

    2. Johnnypenso

Stealing the idea of putting an American supercar on the cover of a game with a huge American playing base that’s made in America. I’m not sure how they’ll get away with that.

    3. RACECAR

Since when is putting a newer version of a car on the cover long after its previous version was on another considered “Stealing”? Does anyone think before they post?

  25. zooburner

I have tried desperately to like GT6 after having it a year, but I just cannot.

Poor graphics, near zero game play, cars in races which almost stop and wait for you on the last lap, no standing starts (one thing I loved about the early GT’s), imbecilic A.I. I don’t think GT has in fact improved since GT4 (which was great).

That though is not the biggest problem with this new generation of games, When I first looked on the official Sony website about this game all kinds of promises were made B-Spec and course creator were the deciding factors that led me to buy the game, alas I have seen neither of them. That’s just the point I can go back and play GT4 and its as good as it ever was, being a complete game on disc, but if I go back to GT5 I am faced with a large download (for as long as Sony see fit to make it available) and then very poor credits for winning races now that online is gone (they could have massively upgraded the pay outs on the final update) and as soon as the updates are no longer available, I’m left with what.. a very wet grinding boring edition of a very poor game.

We are buying unfinished games on promises making it almost impossible to truly say which game is best, and then even if the promise is delivered there is a good chance I cant play them in a few years. They need to make games so when they finally decided to stop updating them you can say download an ISO to burn to disc so at least you have the updates to the game to burn to a disc.

I’m seriously considering trying an X-Box and Forza, sure it may be more ‘arcade’, but what is the point of more realistic physics when your opponents politely slow down to let you past.. it’s sad but I find myself returning to older games to race. GT is dead in the water for me.

    1. FiftyBelowZero

      >a very wet grinding boring edition of a very poor game
Why are you complaining about a game that you’re not meant to be playing anymore?

    2. Unai

After playing GT5 I tried Forza 4 and for me it isn’t more arcade than GT5. It’s a great game, far better than GT5 in my opinion. I wish I could use my G27 with a Xbox, I would buy it then.

  26. StonnyMc

I for one believe GT7 won’t be out till next year..Project Cars may be too arcade to be called a Sim, meaning the only interesting things about sims for console will be finding out how many cars & tracks will forza have.. Just my thoughts

    1. gamelle71

“Project Cars may be too arcade to be called a Sim”
a friend of mine who drove is Lotus Exige 30 time a year on trackday and has done more than 500 lap in real life on the Nurburgring tell me that it’s the first time in vidéo game he try something who seems that realistic to drive with a steering wheels when all assists are off ( he is a beta tester whith the last updates of the game ;-) )
the main problem of the game ( for me ) , it’s the lack of road car ……

    2. Tenacious D

When P CARS was pulled the day that Assetto Corsa 1.0 was released, I think Simply Mad realized they had to step up their game or be called a simcade racer. Rightly or wrongly is up to debate, but the timing of that delay was quite significant. I think P CARS will do admirably with a few months more work.

    3. Johnnypenso

Neither Stonny nor TenD have any idea what they are talking about, no offense of course. The game wasn’t ready for release in November it’s as simple as that, and it’s not up for debate as TenD suggests. If they went back to the drawing board as TenD is suggesting I might agree but the physics aren’t changing, the tire model isn’t changing, nothing about the core of the game is changing, it just wasn’t ready for public use, there was too much work left to do. Ultimately they were too ambitous with their release date, trying to get it ready for Christmas. If one was following the changelogs as I was, it was pretty clear that this was going to happen as far back as August/September. Changelogs are available of all the work that is being done on the game for every single build and it’s been this way since the beginning. They are posted on GTP in fact.

  27. BrunetPaquet

Well, well. 2015 will be an interesting year for racing sims.

Seriously all Gran Turismo is to me now is a soundtrack source for my RPG Project. They better kick it up a notch. No, not a Persson Notch (word play).

It’s good not having any allegiance or so-called deity when it’s about games or gaming system.

I’ll be eager for those three racing sims. (I prohibit an argument war about the sim-ness of each of these three games from starting as a reply!)

  28. Deepblu

    HEY KAZ,
Show us only a screenshot of GT7 to appease the wait, shows everyone that forzamotorsport is only a bad copy of gt

    1. MeanElf

See now, I just don’t get that approach. It’s not like a religion, where you can only have one deity.

If you played GT (I assume so, as you have a collection) then…no, it’s not good. Lost for words here.

    2. MeanElf

So, what am I meant to do? Does this mean that the old adage: say what you mean, and mean what you say no longer applies JP? Oxygen thieves, I tell you…

    3. BrunetPaquet

@Johnnypenso Huh… who said I took that literally… You’re making assumptions way too quick, dude. Then again you might be talking about MeanElf, right?

  29. Chameleon9000

Umm… So this is the 6th forza game. And GT is up to 6… and forza 1 was released 7 years after GT1…

    1. VelocityX

Turn 10 is a much bigger studio. They had over 300 employees when Forza 3 was relased, while Polyphony Digital had around 110, and still probably doesn’t have 200.

    2. BrunetPaquet

Darn it… 300 employees, C’mon PD, find that resurgence, that extra “UMPH” you had before Gran Turismo 5. I want the Gran Turismo franchise to revive, I’ve been playing it *1 quasi-everyday until early 2010!

(*1 No, not religiously, I would play other games as well.)

    3. Johnnypenso

T10 actually has less than 100 employees. The 300 figure was clarified in an interview as including all contractors and outsourced modelers, some of whom have only weeks worth of work. Estimates at this point that PD is in the 130-150 range.

  30. Hemi1980

Ford GT without American V8 is not Ford GT…That is concept version i hope change much things to final edition …

  31. 550

Is that a Ford GT? Serious? Hell,it lost all of the soul of the original GT-40. It dont even looks like a Ford GT. Sorry to the fans, but in one hand it’s full of technology and good numbers, and on other hand is ugly as hell. Pretty reminds me of what happened with the Dodge Viper in 2003,when they completelly messed up the design. Same history.

  32. ZEROTHEKNIGHT

Something tells me that this is a trap from Turn-10 in order to squeeze out any info from polyphony about their next GT which if the next GT suddenly being announced to be released very soon while it’s unfinished it could lead to a downfall for the GT franchise.
Unless polyphony anticipated it since Forza 5 has a limited number of cars & courses so turn 10 wanted to release a new title quickly to get more fans to fix up their previous mistake for a game which got a limited boundary – but ironically if the next game is the same case by just a few new cars then that earning will be limited unless people are impatient then that will look really irritating to be seen.

    1. RACECAR

Why not? It isn’t an “official” GT site anyway, just the most well known one.

Come on people, quit ya dissin’.

    2. Jordan

Why what? GTPlanet has covered the announcement of Forza games since 2009. We are also home to the second-largest Forza forums on the web, aside from Turn 10’s official boards. The launch of Forza 6 will also likely play into the timing of GT7’s release, as discussed in the article.

    3. Johnnypenso

I swear some of you guys never leave the GT forums and have no idea how big and widespread GTP really is. The vast, vast majority of posts on GTP do not come from the GT forum, they are spread out all over the place.

    1. Chikane

Well yea when all you do is just change the number and call it a new game. Its easy to release a game every year and a half.

    2. Terronium-12

As opposed to GT6 which is a lesser game than its predecessor where the number has been changed and is called a new game, right?

    3. SavageEvil

Like Forza 5 isn’t half the game Forza 4 was. Hmm, really Terronium-12? Lesser game I own both and Forza 5 feels like Forza 4 lite, missing way too much only to have to buy it back in DLC…at least PD doesn’t sell you content that came in the game before.

    4. Terronium-12

No, they just remove it entirely with the faint promise that it’ll return in a “future update” or not at all.

And for the record, FM5 is far less than a “Forza 4 lite”.

    5. 550

Savage, yes man, they DO sell old content,GT6 was sold for $80 and came with contents we had in PS2 many years ago. Most of cars and some tracks. So what? Both games are in the same mess.

    6. BrunetPaquet

Why do people need to hate each other over what they like or not…?

All of you, just chill out and go play your favorite game and stop attacking each other, I’m so sick of those allegiance fights.

  33. Steph290

The new Ford GT reminds me of the Saleen Raptor. I wouldn’t be surprised if the designers took a couple of hints from it. Also, if Polyphony Digital keeps to their old ways then I wouldn’t count on seeing it within the launch of the next title. Kaz and the team are usually behind the ball with adding new cars. I would like for them to prove me wrong more often.

  34. Normalaatsra

So Forza Motorsport has already caught up to the number of GT sequels out there: 6.
Seems like they’re milking it for every 2 years.

I’m very much excited for FM6, even though I don’t own any Xbox system but have only played some Forza titles through public demos. I’m looking forward to the tracks.

For GT I don’t have any opinions of them now, I’ll just be patient for them!

    1. Scuderia Paul

FM6 will be out for Christmas and FH3 Christmas 2016. It’s the way it’s been since Horizon was created.

    2. drag lab 101

@BrunetPaquet.. Exactly! FH1 & FH2 were both dropped in a September, Oct time.
Based on that, the fact most devs openly admit that designing next gen is quicker & easier. As well as two devs work in tandem on FH series… It’s quite possible for the FOUR. I don’t think it’s likely, but it certainly is possible.

  35. Kingofweasles

Yet another car that the few GT faithful left will probably never get to virtually drive… Kaz and Co. better step the hell up, because what little relevance their series has is quickly fading away.

  36. CodDemon101

    that new ford is ugly!
Anyways, I’m happy GT haven’t done anything yet because I want to see a full GT6 before they put all the focus on GT7. I am just praying the G27 will be compatible with PS4, so I don’t need to buy a new wheel and console.

  37. hardvibes

If PD won’t respond in the next days I’m done supporting them. The PS4 was released a year ago, can you believe it? And still not even a single screenshot or teaser of GT7. I’ll buy an xbox one+FM5 while waiting for FM6.

    1. ironman44321

Why would they respond? GT7 will likely launch holiday 2016…How pissed would you be if they announced the game nearly 2 years before it’s supposed to launch?

    2. hardvibes

“Why would they respond?” – Because they’re losing their fanbase, even the hardcore players.
The forum is full of complaints, obviously.

“How pissed would you be” – Why would I be pissed? I got nothing to lose, actually it’s the opposite. What I want is FUN. GT didn’t give me that the last 4-5 years. So I also bought a 360, played FM3 and FM4 religiously and what I remember from that experience can be resumed in one word: FUN. I spent countless hours modifying cars and racing online. This summer I will buy the xbox one specifically for Forza 5 and 6. It’s a good investment. As was my PS4, my main console.
GT? I was a hardcore fan, I hoped for years but that FUN never came. GT6 and my PS3 are collecting dust.
No need to list the issues of the series. And the Q&A that ended up being closed? And the memes thread? All things that reflect the reality.
You still believe PD will listen to the fans? Good luck with that.

    3. ironman44321

ooook…don’t need the plight of the Forza fan…just saying it would be stupid for PD to announce GT7 now if it’s not coming out until 2016, it would look desperate and make no sense.

    4. BrunetPaquet

White Knights versus Black Knight. See if self-aware people care about you freaks fighting it out for a mere franchise of games.

Gaming really is taking a dark turn when it’s down to agreeing with each other.

    5. FiftyBelowZero

      Is this sarcasm?

GT6 came out after the PS4 came out. You’re expecting a game only one year after its predecessor? Who does that?

I mean, all I see you do on these forums is complain about PD, complain about GT6, complain about their fan communication, complain about their reliability… don’t you want a GT game that’s actually a sequel, that introduces some new stuff that would “bring you back” to the GT fanbase? I mean, Forza is releasing games fast, almost every single year. What new did they introduce? A couple cars, tracks, graphics.

What can PD do for GT7 in just ONE YEAR, whilst also working on GT6? Have some dang patience and wait it out, unless all you want is a new UI. If you’re expecting something big and expect PD to do it in a year, that’s ridiculous.

    6. hardvibes

Sounds like you forgot all the years we waited for GT5, only to discover it was a static, boring disappointment and GT6 wasn’t really better.
With the great success and reputation PD had since 1998, that’s the best they could come up with? Again, I WON’T list the issues because EVERYBODY knows them and only a blind fanboy wouldn’t acknowledge them.

      “Is this sarcasm?”
      I’m very serious.

“GT6 came out after the PS4 came out.”
Big mistake IMO. PD should have invested in a next gen title right away, design GT6 for ps4, not for ps3.

“You’re expecting a game only one year after its predecessor? Who does that?”
No. Read carefully. I never said I wanted GT7 to be released NOW. I just said PD should give us SOMETHING. Just like ANY other game developer does (in this case, Turn10)

“I mean, all I see you do on these forums is complain about PD, complain about GT6, complain about their fan communication, complain about their reliability…”
Yes, because it’s all true. Am I the only one? Pretty far from that. All true.

“don’t you want a GT game that’s actually a sequel”
Yes I do and GT6 wasn’t really that.

“that introduces some new stuff that would “bring you back” to the GT fanbase?”
Ironically PD removed important features that were in GT5.

“I mean, Forza is releasing games fast, almost every single year.”
There’s a difference. Forza MOTORSPORT are released every 2 years. In between now we seem to have Forza HORIZON games….but they are developed by >>Playground Games<<, with the ASSISTANCE of Turn 10 Studios.

"What new did they introduce? A couple cars, tracks, graphics." At least they released a next gen title. And it seems to be A LOT OF FUN (what I'm looking for)

"What can PD do for GT7 in just ONE YEAR, whilst also working on GT6?" Again, IMO it was a BIG mistake and they should have invested in a next gen title right away instead of putting together GT6 on ps3 (with the hardware limitations we all know, removed features we all know, no real customization, confusing/not intuitive/cluttered/slow/boring online mode, etc etc….)

"Have some dang patience and wait it out"
Kaz and his team pushed the threshold of patience many, many….many times. You know it.

"If you’re expecting something big and expect PD to do it in a year, that’s ridiculous."
Again, I never said I wanted GT7 now since GT6 was released a year ago.

We can go on all day. It doesn't change the fact that PD is lacking communication with their fanbase and it doesn't change the fact that many players are disappointed with GT6 because PD-simply-do-not-deliver.

      Out.

  38. MLRSparco

Awesome Forza5 and Horizon2 have been a blast, can’t say the same about GT6 though,PD better have an ace up there sleeve with GT7 to knock our socks off.

    1. TeamCZRRacing

Funny enough there used to be a site called Forzaplanet which was operated by GTPlanet before it was shut down and redirected to GTP due to inactivity.

    2. RACECAR

All I remember was red. Lots and lots of red. It was like a slaughterhouse, but with a lot less blood….and dead animals.

    3. SlipZtrEm

@TeamCZRRacing It was folded into GTP because it was much more work operating two databases individually, and because it has been mentioned numerous times that GTPlanet’s focus is to be expanded to cover the entire sim racing genre.
