Gran Turismo Series’ Future to be Revealed at Special Media Event on May 15th

Information has leaked on the NeoGAF forums by user “-BLITZ-” about a special “15 Years of Gran Turismo” event to be held at Silverstone Circuit on May 15, 2013.

The media invitation he posted can be seen above, playing homage to the cover of the original Gran Turismo game and reads, “Join us to celebrate 15 years of Gran Turismo, and discover exciting announcements about its future.”

Today actually marks the 15th anniversary of the first game’s release in Europe, while the North American 15th anniversary will occur on May 12. We celebrated the 15th anniversary of the first game’s release in Japan in December of last year, with this special post. Thanks to Amar212 for the quick tip!

The car under the blue cover is quite clearly the new Acura/Honda NSX. Just look at the front… I really don’t know why they put that under the cover when it has already been revealed. There where some black and grey Nissan 350/370Z’s driving around the track a few days before the event at Silverstone. Spotted them from a distance. Probably the ‘Nismo athletes’ rehearsing something idk. Im looking forward for GT6 to be on PS3 because I don’t want to pay hundreds on a new console when it can still work on a current platform. Yes i know on PS4 would work better but i’ve spent enough on 2 DFGT’s and soon getting my 2nd G27. I absolutely rag out my wheels especially in drifting. Also its just preparing for GT academy 2012 which I did actually quallify to go to the national finals but I was like 5 months under age. Still pissed off to this day.

    1. tpark103

NSX? Haha that was by far the worse guess. There is absolutely no way that the sheathed car is mid engined, as the front third of it is far to long and the rear third that would house the engine as far to small. So in closing I say, nice try but, wrong answer.

  2. Flagmo-T

No matter what it might looks like – It will probably be a Japanese Car LOL.. or maybe the New Aston Martin for silverstone lol :P

  3. Haitauer

Might be a new version of the gt86. Might (very well) be the new Fairlady. Might also be the production version of the Subaru WRX – but the front doesnt fit to the concept. But then again its time for the GT6 – It might also be time for GT-R R36. ;) That way they could build at least 15 versions of new R36 to GT6.

at least it got my attention. :)

  4. forzaturismo

Sony’s Senior business manager “Shahid Kamal Ahmad” announced a Big Game on PS VITA!!
I think next week they ll announce GRAN TURISMO VITA.
    Not GRAN TURISMO 6….

  5. Foxes

It’s pretty obvious that the car under the tarp is a FR-S/GT86. Just look closely at the front facia; it’s pretty much a dead giveaway. The sidemirrors distort the shape of the tarp, making the nose seem longer that it is, and if you look at the overall proportions of the car…it’s a pretty small car.

  6. 77

I think its an amalgamation of different bits from different cars, similar to the GT1 cover. The dark blue A-pillar and roofline section look distinctly porsche to me.

    1. Foxes

The car under the GT1 cover is a R32 Skyline GT-R. Kazunori Yamauchi gave an interview a long time ago mentioning how he wrecked one of his favorite cars a long time ago…which was a R32 GT-R. If you look at the tarp on the GT1 cover, you can see that the front facia, front & rear flared fender lines, and the overall proportions of a R32.

So I think it was a tribute to the one that he crashed in the past.

    2. 77

There are many threads and opinions on the GT1 cover, from NSX to camaro to skyline. The front of it is definitely not an R32!! The only thing Kaz is on record saying is that “he cant remember what car it was”. There’s no way in hell that this latest one is just a FT86, there are many lines that dont match and the overall shape is different.

Both covers produce much chatter and debate which must be their aim.

  7. The Stig Farmer

It’s probably the next Nissan Z concept, the shape of it and the design sketch on the video with Jay Leno (not sure which :P) match up damn well.

    1. turbocharged247

I’m thinking berlinetta as well. Doubt they’d promote the FT86/BRZ……already did a lot of that with GT5. Plus the front looks too long to be from the FT86/BRZ

    2. Linus27

Berlinetta is a very good cool but whats not right about it is the winglet above the front wheel that you can see forming a shape under the tarp.

  8. biftizmo

It’s all about the data logger..spring 2013 was said it would be released to the racing industry and on sale later in the year..Gt 86.. This is a very important part of GT5 dont dismiss it! And show case the new academy..and Kaz will put your mines at rest for GT6…GT5 is going to get even better…free cars and silver stone for the winners….rock on! We already got the perfect racing system that competes with real world..bring it on Dudes at polly…

    1. nascarfn

i forgot about the data logger. and if silverstone comes out they won’t restrict it to winners, it will either be dlc or to participants of gt acedemy

    2. DITCHLINE

I think your opinion of the whole deal will probably change after they push the realease back at least a year ha! the hype generated is exactly what the people at PD are banking on and if we keep on with it they will realease an inferior game again. Dont get me wrong the GT series is/was good maybe best but there is so much more potential lets band together & push PD to reach that potential & realease the most kicka** driving sim ever!!!!!!

  9. nascarfn

it looks like the Acura NSX will be on the gt6 cover as that is whats under the tarp (i think)

    1. 05XR8

86 actually. The 86 has the slops in front of the wheels and the concave grill opening. BRZ has a flat nose. :)

    2. RACECAR

How would that be an NSX when its a Mid-engined car (as we’ve seen in both trailers and the Detroit Auto Show) and the car under the cover is clearly an Front-Engined car?

    1. sokira

I don’t think so, in the history of Polyphony Digital, they never hide a car already on sale….

  10. sokira

For me it will be a brand new car never seen before, why covered a car that all people know. A world premiere exclusif presentation. Or perhaps the car made by kazunori himself or Polyphony Digital !!!!!!!

  11. GT5 Level 41

Hello? No wheels? It’s a Landspeeder. Makes sense. With all this Star Wars hype that’s going around I can’t believe you guys missed it. I wonder if we’ll get Luke’s robes to wear? I bet he could smoke the Stig.

  12. xxdixx

perhpas the car is the new NSX, due to all the videos related to this car, also if you notice the front you can see that the cloth is lighter, perhaps where the headlamps are? They seem to match th headlamps of the NSX. The back seems to fit as well however the middle section is probably the biggest problem, don’t know though. I can’t see a f12. My opinion is either the nsx or a brz…

  13. turbocharged247

I think it’s the new Corvette Stingray. The same car that was given away as free DLC in GT5 recently. The shape seems to fit.

    1. Amac500

I’m fairly sure it’s the Toyota FT86 / Scion FRS / Subaru BRZ. That said, I have no way of being 100% sure either.

  14. TDZdave

I’d be more inclined to believe the Dodge thing, it seems to fit, unless its a 2014 Corvette ZR1, That would also work, potentially a Silverstone circuit as DLC?

    Praying for GT6,

    1. HuskyGT

No, wait… that’s no Corvette. The lines in the rear panel doesn’t overlay properly, unless it’s a new Corvette model different from the basic Stingray. the rest does match.

    1. sokira

By logical it will be a brand new car never seen before, why covered a car that all people know. A world premiere exclusif presentation. Or perhaps the car made by kazunori himself or Polyphony Digital !!!!!!!

  15. omnibusse

Could it be the next Nissan GT-R as the relationship of PD/Sony and Nissan is very special. Might also hint at next GT Academy then, too.

    1. Tvensky

thats what I was thinking, but the back of it dosnt look like nissan… its has more sporty look… like aston martin or viper

  16. ZedMan1996

Guys GT6 has only been in development for like 4 years now. That’s not exactly long enough is it? And also they haven’t done this years SEMA and Pebble Beach Show that they were planning yet.

And you’re forgetting about some kind of demonstration thing that is also the case with every Gran Turismo game. They won’t just slap up GT6 without anything to build up tension now would they?

    1. omnibusse

They are already generating lots of hype on YouTube and Twitter right now. Just minutes after the invitation was published. I think they just need that one week and might release the game in autumn. Until then: There’s GT Academy to keep us tensed.

    2. BkS

It may have only been in development for 4 years, but it’s more than long enough consideringgp they’ll be building from GT5. GT5 only took as long as it did because of a physics remodel, which indoubtly will be used and improved upon for GT6.

    3. Tenacious D

It wasn’t just a physics rewrite that caused GT5 to take so long. Remember, it can take up to six man-months to finish a car model, and up to two man-YEARS to model a Premium track like Rome. Opening up all the Standard car and track models to rework to near Premium status will undoubtedly take some time to accomplish too. But by all indications, GT6 is going to be loaded with lots of tracks and a decent number of cars, and plenty of events and user things to keep us busy for a while, no matter which system it’s out on.

  17. Eager Snake

“Five Gran Turismo gamers turned GT Academy champions will be on hand at Silverstone. The ‘Nismo Athletes’ will be showing off their real-world racingskills with some high-speed passenger laps around the famous circuit, a track that has, so far, never featured in Gran Turismo.” The only sure thing is that Silverstone will be in the next Gran Turismo.
As for the car, I don’t know, but my brain tells me GT-R jajajaja.

  18. Johan

    Well…
Adding another guess about whats under the cover.
I’m thinking GT86. Now, it’s too lowand sleek to be a showroom version. But a raciong version then, with wide arches? It has the sharknose, what looks like the high up fendervents, a similar roofline and shape of the rear…
    No big wing though.

  19. BkS

Your all wrong. It’s a McLaren P1. Just look at it especially the front. It could possibly be the LaFerrari as well.

  20. mini28

Not 100% sure what to make of this. The website says “Special content” but also talks of the future. Hmmmm.

  21. Tidgney

If you’ve seen the video that’s just been uploaded, there is a rather Massive hint that it’s about GT6 with the count :)? I assume this is going to be both GT Academy 2013 and GT6! Wish I could sneak a ticket to go :D!

    1. Gunma36

Yes! There is that counter that goes from GT, GT2, GT3, GT4, GT5 and finally to GT_ … Looks like a big hint to me ;)

    2. omnibusse

At YouTube in Sony’s official Playstation channel. Just search for “Celebrating 15 years of Gran Turismo” as links will be moderated here.

    3. Tidgney

Ahh apologies, didn’t realise links weren’t allowed in this part, as it is relating to the above subject thought it wouldn’t matter, apologies!

  22. Hentis

Hmm let’s see, announcement of GT Academy 2013 (come on its at silverstone) and quite possible announcement enemy of Gt6 Prologue for for PS3/PS4 then GT6 to follow in two years time.

    1. omnibusse

I suppose it’s about GT Academy as it’s May again. Furthermore it’s Silverstone. And I think it’s about GT6 on PS3, too. This game has been in development for about 3 years, so it’s about time.

Might also be something like announcing GT6 or GT7P coming to PS4 next year, too. Although I don’t believe, they’re ready for all full-game on PS4 at the end of 2013 or in early 2014.

  23. Tommygunn

Looks like silver stone will be a new track for grand turismo but the question is will it be 5 dlc or will we have to wait for six . Why else would they host this event

  24. infamousphil

I hope that’s the new Viper under the cover. It would be sooo appropriate. Also, mention of the Silverstone circuit… hope GT6 includes the old Silverstone circuit. I not happy with F1’s shortened versions of the old ones… remember theold (stupid phone text) Hockenhiem (forested) circuit? It was actually chicaned to slow the driver’s speed the old section. Beware the hype, yall!

  25. ZedMan1996

Body shape similar to new NSX. Anyways. I hope its GT Academy or a free downloadable demonstration of what could come to GT6. Or even a new PS Vita Gran Turismo game. Obviously I think GT6 wont be announced at this festival in my opinion.

  26. Esgaloth

Very nice to finally get some form of information.

Now as for the car under the cover, it could be a few different kinds of models. While it shows resemblense to the Ferrari F12, I cant help but notice another very similar car, the SRT Viper. Its obviouslt not the new Corvette, definetly a high range super car. However, while stating the viper, i do notice that the front end isn’t long enough, and the rear doesnt slope down to the spoiler like the F12. It could be niether. Either way, its an elegant car judging by the its shape and within the range of the two cars discussed. Both show similarities and differences with this covered invisi-car. I just hope its not something nobody wants.

  27. Mubble

Is is even certain to be game related? I have a bad feeling it might be related to a racing series rather than a PS game.

  28. toto86

This is the day on which the Nurburgring and the Nordschleife are to be offered for sale :( :( :( So it can’t be a good day !!!

    1. omnibusse

Yes, Silverstone would be great. Might be the announcement of this year’s GT Academy, too. The (European?) finals took place at Silverstone last year. So this might be the beginning of GT Academy 2013 with a final in Summer.

Then GT6 will be out in autumn with Silverstone as a new track. Would be a perfect match…

    1. Lord Protector

I’d love to get back those good times with supras… Reminds me of the good ood times playing GT and GT2

  29. Czempion

In 15th May I have 18th birthday. Few news about GT Academy and GT6 will be a good present :)

  30. Jump_Ace

The car in this picture looks to be a Corvette, yes?

    Can’t wait for the announcement.

    Jerome

  31. TetreRouge

Of all the motorsport venues they could have chosen, they choose the one venue that doesn’t seem to like actual motorsport fans to the extent that they rebel against WEC’s “everything is open for everyone” policy by placing badge-wearing jobsworths with hormone imbalances at every gate.

  32. hairystig

This should be when we’ll officially hear about GT6 and then everyone can stop speculating.

    1. Jacobmurer

ExplodeTheApex: think your right there :) first Google hit show exact same lines as under carpet..

    2. hankolerd

I don’t believe it is a F12, I think the F12 has a longer nose that is a bit flatter, the nose on this seems to drop off pretty gradually right behind the front wheels archers, much like the new corvette does. This car under the cover also seems to have a pretty significant rear deck spoiler as well, which also seems more in-line with the new corvette than it does with the F12. This is not to say I think it is the corvette, but it seems more likely to me. Just my 2 cents.

    3. Esgaloth

Only prob with it being a vette is the fact that they never used that styling of a rear lip spoiler

    4. Rionmoon

It’s a Vette because the only “new” idea Chevy has regarding the Corvette is copy a Ferrari then package and market it in the same McDonalds Big Mac way (cheap, readily available and made of questionable materials) they’ve been carrying on for years
