Mazda LM55 Vision Gran Turismo Introduced in Holiday Update for GT6

In a bid to celebrate the holiday season in the best possible way, the newest Vision Gran Turismo project car has been revealed and is Mazda’s homage to its own success at the 1991 24 Hours of Le Mans; introducing the Mazda LM55.

For the design of the Mazda LM55 Vision Gran Turismo, the Mazda Design team blended agility with elegance. Its dynamic silhouette is drawn with sensual forms inspired by Mazda’s Kodo design philosophy. Even the shape of the front grille is an interpretation of the Mazda signature front end developed for its production vehicles. The stance of the Mazda LM55 Vision Gran Turismo, reminiscent of the famed 787 B that took overall victory at the 1991 24 Hours of Le Mans, is powerful yet graceful.

The Mazda LM55 Vision Gran Turismo barely tips the scale with lightweight, carbon fiber components, including a monocoque chassis clad in striking atmospheric-white paint. Pair this with advanced drive train technology that offers the epitome of power, efficiency and durability and the result is an exceptional power to weight ratio exceeding that of most cars in its class.

The LM55 can be purchased from the “Vision GT” area within the cars section in “My Home”, and can alternatively be obtained by completing a lap—regardless of the lap time or validity itself—in the new seasonal event available for a limited time, which is as follows:

Mazda LM55 VGT Super Lap

  • Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
  • Period of Availability: 12/24/2014 22:30 – 01/14/2015 23:00
  • Gold: 200,000cr; Silver: 120,000cr, Bronze: 80,000cr

Be sure to stop by the LM55 discussion thread for analysis, discussion, and holiday cheer.

That’s because there wasn’t one. This car was delivered in v1.15 and made accessible on Christmas Day by hotfix. There is no v1.16 yet.

Play other games for the day. Before you go to bed, go to your Power Saving Options and make sure auto-off for the system is turned off. Then go into your “Game Data Utility” and delete your GT6 game data (your progress will be safe and sound as it’s located elsewhere). Start GT6, agree to anything that needs to be accepted, begin your update/installation and go to bed.

Wake up, cross your fingers and hope it’s done. Once finished, begin 2nd wave of in-game update torture and start your day. Once home from school, work, vacation/holiday, etc. your update should, by the grace of God, be completed. You can now return to your regularly scheduled gaming/racing sessions.

I did this update last night. Now when the game starts it says there’s an update and freezes at that spot. I can’t click “ok” to start the update so I have to turn the system off. From the XMB menu where I can check for the update it says the latest version is installed. No idea what to do now.

Ha this car is so fun to drive, If only I wasnt so throttle happy I could see the track ahead instead of the inside wall, but this is my favorite VGT so far, I cant control the chapperal good enough to get good times but this Mazda is just my happy throttle thats the problem and mabey the fact I probobly havent touched the brakes yet.

  4. Obelisk

For a GT6 car, this thing genuinely sounds like a 4-rotor engine. Has anyone else noticed the VGTs having gradually better sounds as of lately?

  5. 550

I just can’t believe they still spending their time on these useless VGTs instead of update current standard cars to premium. Thanks Kaz,I guess you will not make GT6 worth my money at all.

    1. wudy201

Read before you buy VGT was in gt6 well before it was released so the time wasted was the time you should of spent reading about gt6 and features in it. Doesn’t mention anything about upgrading standards to premiums but does mention VGT. And before the b spec and coarse creator crying starts it also says b spec endurance and coarse creator will come in a future update doesn’t say which update just a future update same as community QuickTime visualizer and data feature also said in a future update and they came. Read before you buy and there would be nothing to complain about there have been no lies it was all clearly stated before release.

    2. warpkez

I did assume as much, but I have been known in the past to express my dissatisfaction with the lack of fixes verses the number of features being added.

  6. austint30

I was hoping for a course maker for Christmas. I should just give it up because it will probably not come out until GT7. I bought GT6 for the improved course maker and if it never comes out, I feel a lawsuit coming… GT6 is just a
watered down GT5 without the course maker!

  7. Progress823

Just a quick tip if no one noticed: if you want to find out the HP rating on a car that it’s not listed for, make sure the car is in your favorites, and start a multiplayer game. The LM55 has 843hp according to this.

    1. Progress823

It’s also 830kg (found this out in a weight-restricted LMP room when I had to add 7kg to meet weight requirement of 837kg)

  8. Biggbaddwolf

I love it, but have you noticed even though it isn’t listed as turbocharged, you can still hear the sound of the blow off valve when you change gears, and let off the gas etc…?

  9. DYLAN777-is-not

OH MY GOD THIS CAR LOOKS UTTERLY INSANE! I simply can’t believe it looks so good! This beats all the others by far. The Chaparral looks just as amazing but the fact you lie down going 100 mph is just too fake for me to enjoy. This is nearly better than all the predecessors combined! My eyes literally bug out everytime I look at it!

  10. montecarlo87

Zoom zoom! Looks great and even matches the Chaparral 2X from GM the Aston Martin and Mercedes in good looks.

  11. Psychopulse

I like how it looks like a refreshed 787B; it doesn’t look too happy, but more like a smirking beast… Mazda can’t take that smile away haha, it’s awesome and I’m loving it!!!

  12. Maddens Raiders

Thank you PD and Mazda for the LM55…. My God what a wonderful car this is and that sound……..!!!! I haven’t run practice laps around Sarthe since GT4, but I am now just so I can watch and listen to this beast rip up the track hahaaaa!!!!!!!

  13. JKgo

Like the front of this Mazda but not too keen on that rear end. Wished it came out either with a Renown color or that of a Skyactive livery but it’s neither, just boring little pastel white…

    1. Johnnypenso

Liveries are so easy to do, I don’t get why they wouldn’t add some kind of Mazda racing livery to this at least, even a full on homage to the 787B. The fans would be just ecstatic over that for such a tiny effort on their part.

    2. SZRT Ice

My biggest fear and grief is/will be, GT7, releasing without a full fledged vinyl/livery editor. I hope PCARS has one at least. Racer freedom and expression is seriously limited PlayStation side, and it has been, for way too long.

    3. Aussie_HSV

How does PCars go about censoring rude words or images?
Driveclub obviously has livery options, but it’s simply a choice of pattern from the available options. No editting except colour.
If GT7 end up with liveries, I imagine it would be something similar.

    4. SZRT Ice

I’m not sure if Project: Community Assisted Racing Simulator even has a vinyl/livery editor. To see a quality system, look at the Forza series, TDU2, or even MCLA. PD shouldn’t have trouble implementing one of their own. The same way the find modders, they can find illicit designs.

    5. Johnnypenso

I’ve seen literally hundreds of liveries in Assetto Corsa and have never seen anything even remotely obscene. Closest thing to it was a Playboy livery for a Ferrari and it was as PG as it gets for Playboy. On the PC side of things I don’t think “rude” liveries is much of an issue, can’t say how they’ll police it on console. Probably the same way anyone else does.

AFAIK, PCars hasn’t confirmed a livery editor on console, but will have one for PC. I do know that each car in the game comes with an average of 20 liveries in the garage, so you can create entire one make grids that are fairly large with little duplication. Hopefully they take all the best of the PC created liveries and make them DLC for the console guys because some of the work on PC is absolutely stunning. Can’t wait to drive the GTP liveried Ruf which is an official livery in the game!!!

  14. Schmiggz

I just wish we could get some real cars for a change. There’s hundreds of very interesting new models out there that should step in this game.

  15. Piotr Jawniak

I am very happy with the update. i read about the lm55 yesterday but didn’t expect it to appear today suddenly. I am also happy that the 2X was made easier to drive with the DS3, before I could barely get it under 46 secs in the seasonal event, now I can I get it in 44.

  16. A_Higher_Place

This car looks awesome! Does anyone know if it’s way too crazy fast for LMP though? I think it sits right beside the peugot, audi, and toyota for lmp :)

Loving the racing versions of the VGTs!

  17. CrazyBrazilian

PD was not satisfied to **** the classic Chaparral. Now they just made a horrible Vision from one of the most classics e wished Le Man Cars in history, the Mazda 787B. Another Ultra-Super-Powerfull-Universal Car that makes 0 to 400 Km/h in 10s seconds making every “fan” from GT happy about this “gorgeous” car.

    Thanks PD.

    1. FiftyBelowZero

What are you going on about? Mate, PD does not make the VGT cars, different manufacturers are taking part in this project. Really, PD has no role in VGT other than initially organizing the project, then bringing the cars to the game.

    2. Johnnypenso

Sounds like he’s unhappy about PD spending valuable modeling time on creating a car that more aptly belongs in Need for Speed, Ridge Racer or Wipeout, rather than in a driving “sim”. 0 to 400km/h in 10s…lol.

    3. Johnnypenso

Of course I can’t prove this, but if Kaz’s vision for GT6 was, “more and more real cars and we’re going through GTP’s most requested car list and including them in the game one by one as DLC for free”, and Forza’s tact was an exact duplicate of the VGT program, I firmly believe that GT players would mock Forza mercilessly and decry that Kaz is the greatest thing since sliced bread and GT is the true driving simulator without question.

    1. karelpipa

It was not out of nowhere. These two updates were in reality just one. But because each VGT must have some space to shine for a few days, it was postponed. (two cars at once are OK, three are too many)

  18. warpkez

But is the car useful for 24 minutes at Le Mans or is it another one of those cars that can only be used online against the random assortment of players where you hope to find those capable enough to drive and not resort to moronic behaviour?

  19. MeanElf

At a quick glance of the article image, I got all excited, thinking the car had an offset cockpit…probably wouldn’t have been a good idea if it had been though ;)

  20. Scuderia Paul

I admit I didn’t think this would arrive. It looks stunning and I cannot wait to try it.

Thank you Mazda and PD as this feels like another Christmas present. I live for LMPs so this is amazing.

  21. vrossi

Why doesn’t the 787b in game car#55 have the correct drivers names on it? They should be Weidler, Herbert and Gachot. Go look for yourself, & then go read who drove it to victory in 1991 Le Mans.

  22. GTP Ziggy

2X vs LM55? which is better? These two have to be the two best yet– The 2X with a radical look into racing’s long future of the next generation Le Man racer versus a historical masterpiece recreated in a more realistic view of what racing might see soon down the road design-wise in Le Mans.

  23. sayba2th

Keep them coming Kaz as I know we won’t see many if any new cars coming until GT7. I am a fan of the VGT line and am quite enjoying these new cars. An aquired taste yes but those who get it get it, get it? Anyways it occured to me as a temporary measure for the proper course maker we could get a makeshift one based on the GT5 version to tide those over who are chomping at the bit for it. Doubt it will happen but at least PD have a place to go to find out what people are wanting regardless of whether or not they action it.

    1. NW48

I like it. First Mazda I’ve ever actually, liked. And after I drive it a bit more, I may just say it is the best VGT yet. It’s an LMP, with realistic design and performance, so it is more than welcome in the game. As for it being done before, the 787B was arguably one if the best Prototypes ever to race at Le Mans, so why not keep the legacy going and translate it into a VGT, and something that can definitely be done in upcoming years, unlike one VGT I know…

  24. Bloodmasters

how about the course creator for new years. idc if it is still in beta or testing whatever just release it. vgt is great and all but give us the stuff you promised before the game came out.

  25. BrunetPaquet

Now if only things could take a pace like that in GT6 more often… don’t mind me, I’m just thinking out loud.

That reminds, though… aren’t PD a bit more free since their 1-year mandatory VGT agreement is done? Someone said that in another news thread during a “White Knight VS. Angry mob” type argument.

Also, sorry if I’m asking again, I just want to make really sure.

  26. wudy201

Download done but “connection to server could not be established” its been 4 hours and still get this message wtf!

  27. wudy201

This is AWESOME!!!!!. Now hopefully Alpines VGT car is right around the corner and these VGTs pick up the pace a little bit Im nothing but excited and anxious for whats to come I really wish Alfa would decide to get back into this thing. This is AWESOME!!!!!!

  28. racingchamp30

No file size, just says 12 minutes as one of those ninja updates but only lasts a few minutes. New vision GT car and seasonals.

  29. Scheer

Sorry to DP but can anyone with a decent connection work out how big this update is? It’s the first one i’ve seen that doesn’t declare the file size.

  30. ChauMing803

Anyone know that this VGT actually has a like black version/stealth model of it? It can be found on the official webpage, but I don’t know if it can be obtained :-P

    1. Ameer67

I don’t think that’s an actual stealth model. It’s just showing what it would look like under the shell (white panels).

  31. Scheer

I love the idea that Mazda are still thinking about Le Mans after all these years. The download is not like the usual update though, more like a hotfix but quite large. 120min on my hopeless internet connection. I’m guessing Course Maker! ;-P
