“Akiba Grand Prix” Gets Your Name in GT5 Credits

akiba-grand-prix

Here’s a look at the Akiba Grand Prix, held the Akihabara district of Tokyo last weekend. Making excellent use of GT PSP’s multiplayer functionality, the Akiba GP led a group of players around a “circuit” of stores, shops, and restaurants, competing in different race events at each location. The final event of the day involves a showdown with two-time Super GT Series world champion and Best Motoring presenter Juichi Wakisaka.

Needless to say, it sounds like a really fun little competition, but that’s not all: the winner gets a trophy, 229 rare cars in GT PSP, a PS3 Slim, a free copy of Gran Turismo 5, and their name forever etched in the ending credits of the game. Check out Japanese GT PSP site and the article at Gigazine for more.

(No, I’ve got absolutely no idea what’s going on in this picture. Caption contest, anyone?)

    @FlareKR

You forgot the Nissan Skyline GT-R super special “metallic blue with a black stripe” version.

    Heh heh, very good!

@ Jakus: thanks for the tip, very likely the ps3 the winner took contains that “installed” version you’re talking about then.

    Oh those rare cars are
Nissan Skyline GT-R super special “mettalic blue” version
Nissan Skyline GT-R super special “midnight purple” version
Nissan Skyline GT-R super special “left passenger window missing” version
Nissan Skyling GT-R super special “flashing lights” version
Did I mention all those cars have the same performance specs as a regular R34?

    – “Really beats a prayer rug”
    – “I get more g’s from the floor!”
    – “This is perfectly normal in Japan!”
    – “Psst, got hacks?”
    – “Darn, I can’t see what’s going on up stage!”
    – “Have you noticed, they’re germs on the floor.”

“We also have a sit down PlayStation game loaded with Gran Turismo 5, and all the cars. Not just a handful of useless Hyundais.”

Clarkson said this at the beginning of the year, so it wouldn’t be unreasonable to suggest that there are more advanced versions of GT5 being shipped to important people for their feedback.

There have been prototype versions of Gran Turismo 5. I recall Jeremy Clarkson saying that he had received a copy and explicitly differentiated it from GT5P. What is more likely however, is that the winner will receive GT5 once it is fully completed.

Interesting concept. I’ve been holding out, saveing up for GT5. This however, really makes me feel like I’m missing out. I need a PSP, Santa! Just think how long it will take to get your hands on GT5 and beat it to see your name in the credits.
