Driving Tips from GT Academy Champion Lucas Ordoñez

GT Academy champion Lucas Ordoñez is in Japan this weekend, preparing for his debut in Super GT’s Suzuka 1000km next month, and Nissan has published a video of him discussing driving tips and techniques.

With less than a week to go in GT Academy 2013’s increasingly competitive online qualifier, you’ll need to use every trick in the book to make the cut in nearly every region.

In addition to Tidgney’s Tutorial video, GTPlanet user oink83 has also assembled this extensive sector-by-sector guide to the Silverstone GP Circuit to help you shave off those tenths where they matter the most.

Thanks for the Tutorials oink83. Simple and easy to follow. Although I’m too old to compete I have loads of fun trying(and the key word is trying) to chase you guys around. When Academy comes to SA later on, I’ll be waiting! Many thanks to Tidgney too.Glad to see Lucas still finds the time to share valued info with us.

I am friends with a recent grad. He has a 2:20.5 right now, and I’m sure that took him all of 10 minutes as he definitely knows this track.

The Video & commentary are not in Sync, due to editing. We basically are seeing multiple laps being run and narration put in to describe the tip for particular sections, but at different times during his practice laps.

@magsolid – That is not necessarily the case! It doesn’t matter how close to real life a driving game gets, it will NEVER be the same as REAL LIFE!
I no longer have aspirations of being a race driver (43, overweight) but I still drive better than most people at track days and road rally events!
However, I feel more comfortable with a controller than a wheel when in a game! Go figure…

      @magsolid

Your forgetting its a video game. Driving in GT5 and driving in real life feels %1,000,000 diffenent. So if you was playing Call of duty, you will use a toy gun because its the real thing? You better think that over.

My comment is based on common sense with lots of resources that i can use as a backup.
Unfortunately you’re comment is completely opposite with rediculous exaggeration.
I’m not gonna argue with some dude who don’t make any sense.
I have driven a real car, and i have chat with GT Academy finalist and i know more than you
do when it comes to the difference between sim racing and real racing which you don’t know nothing about.
      The argument is over.

      Thank you for your time.

      Magsolid.

Obviously magsolid you’ve never seen doodlemonopoly’s TT times on a Controller. Tidgney is also very skilled with a controller.

Where in JDmsz OP does he say he aspires to be a Real race car driver? His comment was based on his comfort zone. You took it further then it had to go…Petty.

Excellent tips and not overbearing stuff from know it all mouthy people online. This guy is a consummate gentleman, humble and pretty cool. This video was cut and chopped all over the place I was getting confused with commentary and what I was going on in the video.

Can’t help but feel happy for Lucas Ordoñez and the other GT racers living their dream. Wishing them and anyone else that is trying to become a real race driver through GT all the best. My enjoyment come’s from just playing the games.

I’m having a feeling GT6 is getting delayed. We haven’t heard any news lately about its release yet.

I thought the 1st tip would be to “relax”, but what do I know¿ I use a controller and am having an awful time catching that lead car in the latest fwd TT. Worse, I don’t even enjoy such events but still working on helmets and uniforms.

    1. infamousphil

Oh yeah, I could have used some real advice on the GT-R’s second TT at Silverstone as well… I’m short 0.2+ secs there. It’s really difficult to be consistent through the last section.

  5. Quigz125

Yup that’s right 3rd comment lol. But yea Lucas is cool an shows he didn’t just screw let his new career take over. He still shows a lot of support for GT even over 5 years later.

  6. Tenacious D

I appreciate everything Lucas is doing with Kaz and Polyphony. It’s one thing to show gratitude to Kaz for getting him where he is today, but Lucas is a true fan. Keep going Luke, and help the team give us the drive of our lives in Gran Turismo!

Lol, talk about technicalities. Those guys must be on the other side of the international date line.
