I've no earthly clue how you guys score so high - my best ever round had 13 kills in it.

Getting a helo airborne helps alot!

Awesome work so far, icelt. 👍

I'll be doing a weapon's overview (one by one) and covering the rest of the maps as well (I have some finished already).

amar -

Thanks man. It's just proper to get some of the good write-ups you guys have done out into the main forum for easier reference.

Once you get so used to the controls that it becomes second nature to you, that is when you start racking up the kills/points. I noticed once I was getting to lvl 20-25 I was beginning to win most matches, I noticed I was reacting alot quicker and acquiring and downing targets alot quicker.

I had some great games today after I got home from school: a 45-12 match, a 35-6 match during which I recieved two phonecalls and played while talking on the phone all contorted for about half the match. Another good matches and my K/D ratio is now about 50 kills and 1 death below 2.00.

Seriously if you want alot of kills play either alot of HQ or Domination matches, I mostly play Domination and just go around killing people as much as possible, if there is a flag nearby I may capture it but it is not at the top of my priorities list.

FYI... pulled out some more posts and updated the Overgrown, Gun Basics and Grenade threads with'em.

You mean that the most kills you have ever gotten in a single match was 13?

Yea, play more and just practice more. The most I have ever gotten was 56. HQ on shipment. Which is actually quite terrible for that gametype and map combo.

And when I first started playing, I won just about every match. I think it was because everyone was new to the game. I got it before it even launched so my competition was inexperienced. But you really have to play just about everyday to get really good.

Yeah, thats about my average kill on shipment HQs, although it depends heavily on what weapon I'm using. If I use the RPD I'm normally around 75 kills, P90 around 65, shotgun around 30 (not really that good lol). Shipment is my favorite place to play HQ matches. Complete and utter chaos.

@Famine:

Just keep playing man. I sucked at all FPSs before I got CoD4 and about 54 hours of online play (wow thats a lot when you put it into hours) later I'm averaging 35 kills and 10 deaths on a mediocre day. You'll get there.

I completely agree with you. 👍

The highest score I got was 93 and probably more deaths at shipment with an AK-74u. I was playing with James. (G.T.)

Why shouldn't you? It's just awesome!
Get it and join us, buddy.

Okey dokey. First of all, how much do you reckon trading Assassins Creed in will get me?

Okey dokey. First of all, how much do you reckon trading Assassins Creed in will get me?

Trading in PS3 games nowadays is useless! pretty much anywhere ( gamestation , game etc ... ) the prices they offer back on them is crazy, I was gonna trade in COD3 when I was picking up COD4 on release day but 3 different shops offered me 10 quid lmao .. so i bought COD4 and got rid of my COD3 on ebay for 20 odd quid easily, I would suggest if you have access to an ebay account buy COD4 there and sell Assassins Creed on ebay also as you will surely get much more than any game shop will offer you and also you will get COD4 for around 35 quid which is still a few quid cheaper than the shops also 👍

You'll have to excuse all my quid references but my quid sign has dissapeared off my keyboard for some crazy reason? as has my dollar sign and many other shift functions? ... wtf?

Good luck btw :)

I've no earthly clue how you guys score so high - my best ever round had 13 kills in it.

Mine is 14 :p but not to worry as I average about 7 if I'm lucky :O

I just don't get it - some rounds I don't even SEE 24 people, let alone kill them. Yet somehow 24 people see me and kill me.

I had one I wished I could have had a Killcam Replay Replay for - I crept round a corner and died. Killcam showed the bloke killing me without at any point looking in my direction. He never saw me, never pointed his gun at me, had no warning of my being there, yet he killed me.

I suspect I'm going to have to plug the PS3 directly into the router and forego the freedom of wireless LANs.

It has all to do with overall experience.

Knowing the maps, knowing the paths, knowing what new players do, what are their paths, what are the paths of experienced players, where you can throw the granade over the building, where are the respawn points, where are the hideouts, and so on.

I remeber I had the same question, while today I'm not satisfied if I do not have at least 15 kills in TD. I guess Beerz is unsatisfied if he don't have at least 25 kills :D

It's just matter of experience. Last night I played with 7 people of which 5 were around rank 20 and I totally destroyed them on Bloc and Crossfire. Practice makes perfect.

Even so, I'm now at Lv34. I've played all of the maps at least 10 times each (though Overgrown can sod off).

The other night I was playing Downpour and I'd selected the Dragunov. I climbed the ladder next to the silos, lay on the roof, picked a victim and shot him. I shot him eight times and, though the crosshairs were right on him, I missed every time. Then someone else shot him in the knee and killed him.

Then I played Crash. I climbed up the broken stairs in the house at the East side. I crept, below the windowline with my silenced G3, popped up and died. Someone had spotted me, aimed and killed me with a single shot from a sniper rifle from the house opposite (with the stairs inside and the ladder outside) in less than the time it takes to go from crouch to stand - a sniper rifle I couldn't get someone with in eight shots despite having them dead centre in the crosshairs. To add insult to injury, I did the same thing 2 minutes later and got killed by the same guy using a frickin pistol, though it took him more shots.

Play Downpour and Crash with SMGs or ARs. Stick to the bushes, walls, always be crouched. Use snipers only on Overgrown or Pipeline. Other maps are too small for that, even the Bloc. Snipers at Bloc are my favorite finger food.

Wait before you move. Always look left-right before you move. Use prone as much as you can. Run ONLY if you're over 80% certain that nobody will pop-out before you. Never move actually, that's the best strategy :) Use silencer AMAYC.

Buy yourself a decent 5.1 surround because sound is your best friend when playing this game. Stereo can't serve a dime against good surround set-up.

I don't know.. Play more and more and when you reach the Prestige for the first time you'll slowly become a Jedi Master just by matter of things :D

None of this explains why I can't even hit a guy with eight rounds from a sniper rifle despite him being dead-on, but I can be killed by a single shot from someone who hadn't even had time to see me - or from across the map by a frickin' pistol.

Also, I have two decent 5.1s, but I prefer my pair of MS101-IIs :D

The best advice I have is move, all the time even if it may get you killed, I die very much in matches, I kill more than I die these days, but the main reason I ussually get 20 odd kills per match is because I am always moving.

I have a dangerous habbit of chasing the red dots, on my map, it always leads me to some action.

Here's something just posted by 402 (IW's community relations manager) to the official IW PS3 forum regarding setting up your internet/router connection. It may be able to help some of you guys out.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - PS3 Multiplayer Guide

This guide will give you helpful tips and suggestions on the best way to set up your router and PS3 Network settings for the most optimal online performance. If you are having any problems connecting to games, matchmaking, or playing online in general then please read this guide carefully and see if there are any changes you may need to make to your PS3 Network Settings or Router.

-Step #1-

The first step is to test your PS3's Internet Connection via the PS3 dashboard, to do this go to:

Settings > Network Settings > Internet Connection Test

Once you're in (Internet Connection Test) it will run a test of your connection and display results for the following:
Obtain IP Address Check whether an IP address has been obtained.
Internet Connection Check whether a connection to the internet has been established.
PLAYSTATION Network Check whether you are able to sign in to PLAYSTATION Network.
UPnP* Check the status of UPnP (Universal Plug and Play).
NAT Type*

Available: You can use UPnP.

Not Available: You cannot use UPnP.

Disabled: UPnP has been disabled in the network settings of the PS3™ system.

Check how the PS3™ system is connected to the Internet. This information can be used to judge the ease or difficulty of connecting to other PS3™ systems when using voice / video chat or the communication features of games.

Type 1: Connected directly to the Internet

Type 2: Connected to the Internet via a router

Type 3: Connected to the Internet via a router

With type 3, it may not be possible to communicate with other PS3™ systems, and voice / video chat and the communication features of games may be restricted. In this case, see [Connecting to PLAYSTATION®Network] in this guide.

* Displayed only if a PLAYSTATION®Network account has been created.

-Step #2-

Now that you have run the Internet Connection Test, this will help evaluate the situation. If you notice your NAT is Type 3, it notes it may not be possible to communicate with other PS3 Systems which is essential for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare in most cases as we use P2P networking for matchmaking. If your results are less than desired in the Internet Connection Test, here are some helpful things you can do to open up your connection a bit for your PS3.

If you are using a router try one the following:
UPnP Enabled
UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) allows the game to automatically open the proper ports on your router that the game requires to use for online play. If you are playing behind a router that supports UPnP and you wish to use the UPnP feature of the game, your router must be properly configured. Please see your router documentation for more information on configuring this. Your Internet Connection Test should have displayed status on your router's UPnP.

If you do not have a UPnP Enabled router or this does not yelp, you may try to manually open the ports required by the PS3 and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Matchmaking, to do so:

Set port forwarding on your router to your Playstation 3.
Open ports 3658, 3478, 3074, 3075 (UDP) and ports 80, 443, 3074, 5223 (TCP).

If you are unable to manually open ports, or open all the suggested ports, a final option would be to set your Playstation 3 into the DMZ of your router. This will set it outside the domain of any Port blocking and should allow the game full access to any necessary ports required for Matchmaking.

If these fail, disconnect your router and connect your PS3 directly to the Internet and try the game. If it works regularly at this point something about your router may not be completely compatible with the specific needs of this game. Check with your router manufacturer for additional steps that may need to be done to resolve the issues you are seeing.

NOTE:If setting port forwarding or DMZ helps your gameplay you may wish to assign your Playstation 3 a static IP address inside your home network, this will help ensure that the configurations you made do not need to be redone.

NOTE: Many broadband internet modems are coming with routing capability built in. Please contact your internet service provider to determine if your internet modem has an integrated router, if it does they should be able to assist you with the steps above for setting up a router.

If that Welsh bloke doesn't stop talking into his microphone, I'm going to pour acid down his internet. SHUT THE HELL UP! No-one cares about you!

Never move actually.

The best advice I have is move

Nnnnkay.

I seem to rack up good kill rates using a shotgun, claymores and martyrdom, and appalling kill rates if I use anything else. I'm guessing that, with the evidence of the sniper rifle stated earlier, I'm lagging ever so slightly, putting my accuracy off so that I can't kill with precise weapons, but can kill with dispersal weapons.

Either way, it's annoying. I've got a 6-kill streak about 8 times, but never managed a 7th to call in the chopper. :(

Error 33, mmm I hope the servers improve soon.

On the note, moving about allows you to cross paths with a fair number of enemies, providing you can kill the that will amount to a fair number of kills. I would recommend over camping out anyday, once your spotted its very easy to kill you since your a static target that isn't likely to move giving your oppoent time to aim correctly.

[edit] Any GTP matches on tonight?

I was on earlier and sent out a few invites .. I had my mic on and little did I know my youngest lad had been on playing before me and messed about with the voice changer thingy and put it on +5 :dopey: Rentec says "I cant understand you Ron" and was laughing his ass off at my papa smurf voice! :p
to anyone who had to listen to my ramblings in this silly voice I apologise and will always check before I connect next time 👍 Hopefully it wont put people off inviting me in the future ..

Bloomin kids eh :sly:

I think my Marine has been taking LSD, all sorts of crazy s*** have been happening on screen including flying around the top of the map, bouncing around the map firing bullets everywhere but not at opponents, the only bonus is that no-one could hit me either, the connection interrupted is really starting to annoy me now, I am curious whether I appeared to be 'flying' to other users.

Just had another match with beerz this time, just kept getting killed after shooting at enemies that weren't there, the next match at downpour, I get connecetion interrupted again, but this time the server timed out :ouch:. Its really starting to annoy me now.

Famine: The way I see it with sniper rifles it's hit or miss. With the .50 cal I usually had terrible luck with it. One shot with stopping power to chest and just got hits and no kills. But now that I went into prestige the only thing available to me is the first bolt-action rifle and I used that last night at ambush and got 10 kills in a row with it. I don't understand it.

I've lost out on so many points through "Connection Interrupted"s.

Given that my router tokes bloke, how can I tell if the issue is at my end or someone else's?

I have been getting the connection interrupted a lot tonight also ... so I reckon its not at your end Famine ;)

Ok, i asked in another topic but im in a hurry to make a decision on if i wait for this game to come in stock or not. Will COD4 work well online for me? I had problems in the past with RSV which made it impossible to play online as i live out in the middle of nowhere and cant get fast broadband. Im currently on a 1.5 broadband connection, using wireless to connect through a router.
NOTE: i can't rent this game or lend it from someone, because there are no rental stores nearby, and online rental is not an option for me.

First off, as the owner of both games and one who has completed AC, I don't even have to think twice about which game to recommend more; it is CoD4 hands down. I'd probably say the same thing even with ignoring its online mode. AC is still a very enjoyable game, to me at least, but playing through the CoD4 single player game was really just one of those "OMFG" experiences. Over and over again.

Second, a 1.5mb broadband connection is by no means a "slow" connection. I mean it is a legitimate "broadband" connection still. However is it fast enough to handle the packet transfers required by CoD4 for buttery smooth online play? Sorry, I really don't know the definitive answer to that question. Although my guess is that it is plenty fast enough, assuming all other factors are not being a problem.

So I think it is likely these other factors that would more likely degrade your online experience:
1) Are you in the USA? If yes, then you will have access to the recent "connection patch" that IW released and won't have to worry about the problems it fixed. If no, then you'll have to consider it might be a few more weeks until that patch is made available.

2) Have you verified your PS3 and router's internet connection settings? Although mine worked pretty flawlessly right out of the box, I know others have had to do some tweaking to the settings to get things working smoothly. See this post for recommendations from IW.

3) As alluded to in that post, IW is definitely still playing catch up with the servers on their end to improve online gameplay for everyone worldwide. In all honesty there are a number of issues currently with the online game, but not everyone experiences them. So that's something you should consider as well. Also keep in mind that IW has stated that they are committed to fixing ALL of these problems. How long that will take is the question? See this official forum for more info.

4) You also may want to post on that forum your concerns and see what those members have to say. Our community, although enthusiastic, is in comparison quite small. So their superior numbers are more likely to benefit you given your questions. You also might consider posting your internet connection hardware info and just maybe someone there will have a very similar setup who can help you.

Good luck:tup:

Thanks alot, i believe i will wait for CoD4 now.

Im in the UK so there may not be any patch available to me, but i can wait for that.

The main reason i was worried was with RSV many people had slight troubles, but mine seemed extreme, even though i am situated directly above the router resulting a 100% signal strength at all times. I could play R:FOM 90% of the time without any problem at all, and Motorstorm always ran ok for me, but i didnt find many people complaining of any major server issues.

I am certain my router and wireless work perfectly before i moved house i had 8mb broadband on my PS2 online which ran perfectly all day every day, and everything is set up almost identically.

So in conclusion ill wait for somewhere to get it in stock (ive already waited nearly 3 weeks now and NOWHERE seems to have it over here). Then ill try an online match early on, see how it goes and if worst comes to worst, return the game if i dont find single player fulfilling enough.

Thanks again for answering all my questions fully :)

So the EU copy of the game hasn't got that update patch yet... ahh thats why I'm only connecting with US people!....got that update a while ago. (US Copy).

I had an awesome match last night. We were all using headsets, team deathmatch, and we were down almost the whole match. The guys on my team were comunicating very well, and made it so much more enjoyable. They were using North, South, East, and West to describe the buildings that the enemies were in. We were actually clearing rooms/buildings as a squad. It was just awesome. Then at the end we actually took the lead due to my helicopter and we won the match.

I had the most kills with like 26 or 27 and the guy behind me had only about 15 kills. I just love matches like that where people actually utilize their headsets and work as a team.

On another note, I went into my first prestige mode the other day, and I am leveling up really really fast. Im at level 23 now I believe.
