G.T - Man, that's a big ass knife you carry!

icelt - I've been noticing your stats, you're improving a lot. 👍
And thanks for that info, good to know they're not completely sleeping on this.

Blackbird - I use silencers for the sole purpose of not being spotted and chased as soon as I fire a bullet. It has nothing to do with coolness.
I even keep my Stopping Power perk for faster kills (instead of UAV Jammer).

I'm a huge fan of Overgrown too (regardless of how good or bad I'm playing), it's just too beautiful and the overall feeling I get there... well, it's like I'm a kid on a field trip. :D

Just got my red camo on the M16, looks awesome! Also, I'm at lvl 55 3rd prestige, going to 4th tonight.

Famine - too bad about the 'connection interrupted', I was really having fun. It even kicked me out of the PS Network...
On the headset, make sure it's on and linked before entering CoD4, my crappy one only works if I turn it on before.

what is it with prestige? sorry for being a noob but i just got the game last knight but i did have the 360 beta.
my psn is elmataplata

When you get up to level 55, basically you can start over. And each time you do it you get a new avatar thing.

i dont know why you guys complain so much about your headsets. i use my cell phone bluetooth headset (motorolla) and it works perfectly. just turn it on and go to were you register it and about 2 clicks under that theres another setting to set it up. when in there just select your headset as input and output device and make sure its in dark font were it says connect blutooth

Famine - Mine sometimes gets on standby seconds after I 'turn it on' on the XMB, I always have to check if it's really on before entering the game, as once in there, I can turn it on and the speaker icon appears but it doesn't detect my voice, so it appears as if my headset's on but I'm pissed at everyone and don't open my mouth.

Speaking of headsets, why is it that I hear some people crystal clear and I can barely understand others? Is it just different headsets or something else?
And to those that have heard me, how's the quality when I bitch and moan... I mean, speak?

amar - We're in complete sync as far as Juggers, only I'd add a few more words that can't be said here...

PS: Just went into 4th Prestige.
If anyone wants to kick my ass bigtime, invite me now!

Ya I don't really see you guys complaining, just a couple questions on setup and such. Like Beerz said, there does seem to be some people that I can hear and understand perfectly (not including accents etc...) and there are some that I have no clue what they are saying, it sounds like just muffling with one recognizable word. I often wonder how I sound through my headset, my friend says I sound semi-clear but with alot deeper voice than in real life. My headset is a MadCatz USB Universal Headset that I got for when I was really into SOCOM 3, I can use it on PS2/PS3, XBOX and PC. It really is very simple, plug it into one of the USB ports and a green light comes on, talk when I want too, press mute when I don't.

Also has anyone else tried using the Voice Changer effect from the Accessories Settings in the XMB, you can go 5 semi-tones higher and 5 semi-tones lower. I used it for a while and got a few, "WTF?"'s online so I changed it back.

Well I know that I sound pretty clear, cause every once in a while, I can hear myself talking in the background of someone else's headset.

F1, you sound like you have a very deep voice, and I find it hard to understand you. But that may just be me or my headset.

So for those for that don't know many of us encouraged Jordan to create a separate subforum for CoD4. However for understandable reasons he has decided, at least thus far, that a dedicated subforum is not warranted. He also nudged us towards creating separate topic threads to better organize our discussions. So for those of you who were surprised to see a half dozen "CoD4" titled threads just pop up out of the blue, well that is the background.

So far I've skimmed through the 1st 780 posts, and tried to grab the best posts and info I could, however I'm now pooped. There is no doubt I missed copying good info from scores of other posters, so if anyone feels slighted I do sincerely apologize as that was not my intention. The general thread is rather massive and unwieldy at this point so I hope you understand.

Lastly I encourage anyone, and everyone, who cares and wants to contribute to join in on the effort. Hopefully this effort will in the end help us all become better, and more dangerous :trouble: ("that's right ice... man, I am dangerous") players

Awesome work so far, icelt. 👍

I'll be doing a weapon's overview (one by one) and covering the rest of the maps as well (I have some finished already).

amar -

Well for what it is worth, here is the update from IW (note 4am PST tomorrow the servers, I guess that means all of'em, will be down for 1-2 hours):

PS3 Server Status Update
« on: Today at 06:12:25 PM »

Hey Everyone --

As promised yesterday, we wanted to give you a full update on the status of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare multiplayer servers for the PS3 and let you know exactly what's been happening, why it's been happening and what's being done on the server-side to address it. To do this; Steve Pearce, Chief Technology Officer of Activision Inc., gives us a break-down of the situation and the upcoming server maintenance to address it.

Quote
Firstly, on behalf of Activision and DemonWare, I’d like to apologize for the difficulties you’ve experienced while playing the PlayStation 3 version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare during the holiday season.

The fact is that we’ve experienced an unprecedented load on the DemonWare backend servers, which has steadily increased since late December beyond our expectations. In spite of all of our planning and precautions, the extreme load revealed several issues. These issues triggered unscheduled downtime this past month. As we encountered issues, we deployed additional hardware and/or optimized the server infrastructure to keep the service up and running. However, while the servers were active for the vast majority of the time, many players experienced significant wait times repeatedly when joining games.

To overcome this issue, we’ve implemented a fix today, which should dramatically improve the time it takes to join an online game. And, in order to make additional improvements we are briefly taking the servers offline tomorrow, Wednesday January 9th at 4:00 a.m. PST

As a rule, we try to avoid scheduled downtime whenever possible. However, at this juncture we will need 1-2 hours to update a number of server infrastructure components. We apologize for any short-term inconvenience this may cause, and appreciate your ongoing support and patience.

Our expectation is that the server load will continue to increase as system bottlenecks are removed. So in the coming days, we will continue to monitor our system and make further optimizations and improvements as necessary. We will be deploying additional hardware to improve our database throughput and load handling. In addition to the added hardware, we are further optimizing components of the underlying server software to improve performance. We hope to be able to hot deploy these updates while the system is live. In the event that the system requires further scheduled downtime, we will post a message both here and in-game via the “Message of the Day” to keep everyone informed.

Rest assured that we are taking every possible action to insure that your Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare online PS3 experience is smooth and trouble free. We apologize for the trouble this has caused and ask for your understanding and cooperation as we get things sorted over the coming days.

Thanks,

Steve Pearce
CTO, Activision

As he stated, the servers will be down for maintenance as of 4 AM (PST) Wednesday morning for a few hours as they roll out this fix. You will notice the PS3 MOTD has changed to reflect this and will be updated once again with any updated information after the server update.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns, and I look forward to seeing all of you online.

Ya that is posted as a message, that the servers will be down on Wednesday 4AM-6AM PST. Hopefully it makes connecting to friend's invites alot easier and we can all play together more. And now that the holidays are essentially over, perhaps SCEE can approve of the patch for EU (and everywhere else) so that we can once again be reunited and do battle :). Maybe we can try and setup that NA vs EU matchup that I suggested a couple weeks ago.

Dead_Poetic: I don't really realize it but I do have a bit of a low voice and I think that it is like made even deeper when talking through the headset. And my headset is basically pretty cheap and I would not be surprised if the sound quality was less than stellar. Also when I realized you were on I sent you an invite but I had to go right when that game had ended and I am just finishing my final posts of the day.

PS, managed to get my K/D ratio to 1.99, I am so close to 2.00 I can smell it.

Definitely had my best night ever. About 300 kills and 70 deaths over 8 matches. Would have been 240 kills and 40 deaths over 7 if it wasn't for that last HQ on Shipment :).

I think I'm getting better :).

I can't decide if I want this or not....

Yes. Yes you do.

Also, I spoke to people and killed Beerz in the face with a shotgun three times in a row. And, thanks to the two other people playing along with us, completed my Free-for-All Challenge. I actually won one earlier in the day as well, at Bog.

Just played a 25-5 game using an M16 with double tap perk. I can't believe I didn't use this combination before. It feels like all my shots are lasers.

Moment of inspiration in the beggining of working day and voila, following my post to Beerz above. I like it minimalistic :D I've altered the photography of M14 because somehow I do not find praising of weapons nice.

For wallpaper quality (1440x900 rez), follow the thumb.

And I've just realised Amar was playing along with us too - I couldn't quite place your PSN name while we were playing. How come your clan tag is "GPT"?

GPT stands for "GamePlay Team" and I use it sometimes. GamePlay is a Croatian gaming magazine I'm somewhat involved into, while GPT is the name of GP's clan. I'm not a true clan member, but I play with those guys lately. Best thing is we all speak Croatian while playing and drive nuts all other players without headsets. Italiand and French are zero for annoyance level we're producing :D

I change it to GTP when playing with Beerz, and I also use 212 and CRO (for Croatia) when playing with other friends.

I will buy this game probably, but I need to find it cheaper than ÂŁ38. I'm struggling, any help?

lol being at my dads at the moment I took my copy of COD4 to his and installed so my rank is back to Lv1. Went on my favourite server and my first game, with an MP5 I came 3rd on the winning side with ~70kills. The reaction from the higher ranks when they saw this Private come 3rd was hilareous.

I had a couple of excellent matches last night (after suffering connection issues and lag on the TD matches with Beerz and amar212). First was a Free for all on Bloc which I won by one of my clearest margins yet (double the number of kills and points of the higher ranked 2nd place), and managed 3 kills within the first 30 seconds or so.

I then had a HQ match on Wetworks (came second on the winning side) which was excellent fun, the HQ spots is picked were all decent, so very few of the shipping containers and a lot more of the bridge. The other team started very, very well and built up a small lead of 80 or so points, the tide then turned when the first place guy and myself pretty much held the bridge by ourselves before the clock counted down, from that point on our team didn't drop a single point.

It also levelled me up to 43 and now I have a nice shiny Desert Eagle, unfortunately I'm away with work for two days, so I can't use it until Friday at the earliest.

Scaff

Had a few games myself last night :D I'm not very good yet but slowly improving the more I play. It's good fun though going round killing guys!! :D

I can't decide if I want this or not....
Why shouldn't you? It's just awesome!
Get it and join us, buddy.

Yes. Yes you do.

Yeah, that shotgun was doing some serious damage to my priceless 'visage'.
Yesterday before I went into prestige I completed about 7 or 8 Elite challenges, including: "kill the #1 player of the other team 10 times in a single match". :sly:

Rock 'n' Load baby, rock 'n' load.. :D
Damn right!

Just played a 25-5 game using an M16 with double tap perk. I can't believe I didn't use this combination before. It feels like all my shots are lasers.

I'll try it out to see how it feels.

I am using my old weaponry now to gain EXP a little quicker, I have put a shotgun in my line up, m16, AK47, m14, m60.

I did really well with the AK at crash with bandoiler, stopping power and deep penatration.

[edit] Just unlocked the Barret 50.cal, took it for a whirl on district, top scorer :)

You used it on district eh? There are only a couple of maps that I can really snipe Overgrown and Bloc obviously, I can snipe in other maps sometimes but if I am getting nowhere I switch to my M4 setup.

I've no earthly clue how you guys score so high - my best ever round had 13 kills in it.
