Gutsy win for AJ

WHO AM I KIDDING
He only had to balk Marcos on the restart TWICE and elbow him off the road TWICE

But yeah , be proud AJ....................................

Marcos wasn't driving the cleanest either, but you can tell in his post race interview, he wasn't upset, he knows that this is the way NASCAR is

Yeah i'm fine with it....as long as Marcos remembers it the next time AJ's on HIS outside.
Marcos still owes Harvick one from Loudon last season too.

Fast but waaaaaay too polite on track.
Should've torn Greg Murphy's throat out after Murphy nearly killed him at Bathurst in 05....but didn't.

Ambrose did almost drive off AJ after the bus stop with one to go. Was hard racing, and Ambrose was a legit sport about things.

They raced hard but clean... what's there to be mad about?

As I said yesterday, if anyone was going to beat the 9 or 24 would have to do it based on strategy, and the 47 team did just that. It also helped that AJ put himself into that zone where all he could see was the win.

Note that I'm a Dinger fan so I'm gonna be about as unbiased as half of you guys when Jeff Gordon's involved in something (:p) but I didn't see either driver do anything wrong.

AJ had the better car, if he hadn't Ambrose would of caught him on the final lap.

Nope. Just saw replay. Ambrose was completely on track.

So like I said, there was no being forced off the track at all.
I watched the replay again, and you are correct that there was no dirt kicked up on the entrance to turn 6. My mistake. However, you can definitely see the 47 forcing the 9 outside (rather than holding his line, on the INSIDE, no less), especially from the view looking back from turn 6 down the straightaway toward turn 5.

That contact from the 47 absolutely moved the 9 out of his lane, to the very edge of the track, and forced him WAY outside into the runoff area on the exit of turn 6. He scrubbed so much speed off of the 9 that the 41 nearly passed him in turn 7. Once the 41 got beside the 9 on the front straight and started side-drafting him, the 9 never had a chance to get back up to the 47.

A.J. already had the preferred inside lane going into 6, so there was no need to push the 9 out of his way there.

See the video at this link, starting at 2:50.

Ambrose ran wide into the runoff of turn 6 to keep his momentum up. Otherwise it would have been race over right there as AJ would have opened up a bit of a gap.

It still don't consider that dirty. Both drivers were racing each other extremely hard. It was AJ's first solid chance at a major win in the series, and his only real chance at making the Chase. I don't see any driver in that exact situation handling it any cleaner. Yea, he pushed Ambrose to the limit, but he also knew who he was racing and he knew how hard Ambrose was willing to push. Had Ambrose made it by him on that final half a lap, you can bet he would have done everything short of wrecking AJ to keep him from taking it back. I like how both drivers handled themselves. They raced as hard as they could without wrecking, and they used the fenders for what they are there for. 👍

So why exact do people have a problem with the way AJ raced Marcos sunday but had nothing to say when Marcos was making plenty contact with Keselowski years ago? They raced hard, there was no "dirty" driving. Hell, Aj got bumped for 🤬 sake just like Keselowski was, but AJ kept on it. Can we just stop with this crap? They both raced hard, there was leaning (like there always is with cars in this style) and that's it. Neither are mad at each other so why the hell is anyone else?

Also, Tony Stewart has cancelled plans to race at Plymouth Speedway in indiana. Might be too early to say, but I get the feeling Stewart is gonna hang his helmet up. Its one thing to see another driver parish in an accident in their car and move on, but to try to do the same after someone died outside of there car after being struck by yours is something I'm not sure you can ever recover from.

@RACECAR I said the same thing after the incident cause I didn't expect him to race at Glen, then he said he would, then he said he wouldn't and didn't. Now I believe it's either too soon for him to want to race or he'll just quit outright.

As for the race, even with the AJ win, I don't expect them to go far and it's been the same with anyone who thought winning on a wild card would mean anything other than their name being in the chase. The drivers that are doing this type of stuff all the time are the ones that you should look forward to these guys only coming in on the merit of a wild card race...nope

The 47 and 43 will definitely be the bottom of the chase. I don't see either car making it beyond the first elimination.

Is the leader in points who didn't get a win, will be in?

I'm a Kenseth fan and I've been waiting for him to win a championship since 2004. He should've won it last year.

I don't really like him running under Joe Gibbs and the Toyota either. I thought he was better with Edwards and Biffle in the Ford with Roush.

Points leader, even without a win, is guaranteed entry to the chase. Currently the highest in points without a win is... Kenseth in 3rd. Dale Jr took the points lead as a result of Jeff Gordon's bad luck. Those outside the top 16 with wins are Denny Hamlin, Aric Almirola, Kurt Busch, and AJ Allmendinger who are 20th, 22nd, 23rd and 24th respectively. With the 12 different winners, that leaves Kenseth (3rd), Ryan Newman (9th), Kyle Larson (10th), and Clint Bowyer (11th) as the ones who would currently be the last ones into the chase.

I don't understand your first question...

EDIT: nevermind @GTPorsche clarified it, I thought you were saying the current leader (Junior) had no wins.

@Earth there is a thread for this already take it there for your conspiracy that I called earlier.

43 entries for Michigan this weekend including:
#14 Tony Stewart (I don't expect Regan Smith to replace him, perhaps Parker Kligerman? keep the Ward comments in, its own thread, please)
#21 Trevor Bayne
#37 Dave Blaney
#66 Joe Nemechek

37 entries for Nationwide @Mid-Ohio

28 entries for Trucks @Michigan

One thing I find stupid about the new Chase system is that eliminated drivers get reverted to their regular season points. To really make winning more important they should have made the eliminated drivers battle for the spots of other eliminated drivers. By winning, the teams would get a bigger paycheck from a high points finish, which would really help the smaller teams that make the Chase.

The teams that get eliminated are all fighting for fifth through sixteenth place in points.

After each elimination round, the cars that advance gain another 1000 points, while the cars that are eliminated all go back to their Chase starting point total, plus any points accrued up through their elimination.

In other words, after six races, eight cars will have 4000+ points, and eight cars will have 2000+ points. After race nine, the final four will have 5000+, and the four that just got eliminated will go back down to 2000+ with the rest of the eliminated Chase teams.

Just to add to this, it should be noted that the Monday entry lists are made well in advance. That's why for Nationwide and Trucks you see all sorts of changes by the time Friday rolls around, with Tuesday being the final day for official changes (Meaning, if a car is added after that, they do not receive points for the event).

Pretty confident that the 14 will again have someone in for Stewart and considering Regan Smith will be at Mid-Ohio, that means it'll have to be someone currently not in a full seat (preferably Hendrick affiliated).

If it's not Stewart, then it will most likely be Scott Riggs or Parker Kligerman as both have run test sessions for SHR. Hendrick will want Regan Smith to keep his focus on the Nationwide Series as he's in the title picture there, but NNS is in Ohio so that's not a good option either way.

Truck Series is also at Michigan, but I'd be surprised if SHR reach out to any of those drivers. Ron Hornaday Jr. would probably be their only option from that series if they did.

Thanks for cleraing that up. So A.J. Allmendinger and Aric Almirola (the two underdogs of the Chase) will finish at least 16th in points. 👍

15th and 16th to be fair. Let's place our bets on who will get what spot. I have my money on A.J. 16th and Aric 15th
