Maybe CAMAROBOY69 should update the thread title. :)

Now we get to see how quickly 1000 -> 2000 goes. Xmas will be coming up...

1,001 now :D

Jerome

Thanks to all of you for helping ForzaPlanet get to 1,000 registered users so quickly!

This site has been around for just two months! That's 500 members a month!!! That's very good! FP

Just out of curiosity, how does the length of time to 1000 members compare to when GTPlanet reached 1000? I would think FP was much quicker, having so many fans come over from GTPlanet at it's start.

IIRC GTPlanet started out as a Yahoo Group before Jordan made it a standalone forum. So it's possible they racked up 1000 relatively quickly on GTPlanet.net, too, with the original YG people that jumped over.

It was an MSN group, but yeah :)

A quick look at the user list says after two months of GTP starting, membership was sitting at 281 (I counted May 14, 2001 to July 14, 2001). The 1000 member mark was hit on August 4, 2001. That might not be perfectly accurate though - banned members don't show up on the User list, so it's likely to have been a day or so earlier before hitting 1000.

Still, that was a pretty big swell in three weeks time!

Wow! 719 new members in 3 weeks is pretty astounding after only 281 in the first 2 entire months. What happened between July 14 and Aug 4?

According to Wiki, Gran Turismo 3 was released on July 10th, for the NA market, and the 20th for Europe. That might have been the reason why.

Ahh. That would explain it. 👍

This site isn't growing as fast. That being said, I don't expect it to. Look at the sales numbers for GT vs FM.

The owner of GT3.com unexpectedly linked to GTPlanet, and that drove a tremendous amount of traffic. It nearly overwhelmed the small shared hosting plan I was using to host the site, and it was my first baptism-by-fire experience of managing the site's infrastructure through its first high-growth period. I had no idea what I was doing!

If you're interested, you can see a screenshot of GTPlanet when it hit its first 1,000 members here.

I've gotta tell you, that's a genuinely inspiring tale, Jordan. 👍

I'm also surprised to realize that before becoming a permanent member in '09 I'd been lurking around GTP since 2002! Hope we can all make FP have that same essence in 10 years time.

Well... you have come a long way Jordan. I can just imagine you must have been a bit overwhelmed when you got that surge of activity. I commend you for the great job you have done over the years and hope that ForzaPlanet will become just as big as GTPlanet one day.
