AMD64 3200+
512mb RAM

64mb Nividia GeForce2 :(

But in the download it gave me updated drivers for that exact card, so I assume it is possible to run the game, maybe just in low quality. I hope so anyway :(

GeForce 2? My ATI 9600 struggled.

I got that problem the first time I started up, it went back to the desktop. I started up again, and it worked. :odd:

Hmm yeah i'd almost definitely presume it's a graphics card related error then. From the requirements spec sheet, it lists:

Battlefield 2 only supports the following video cards:

Radeon X700 (PCIe)
Radeon X600 (PCIe)
GeForce 6600 (PCIe)
GeForce PCX 5900 (PCIe)
GeForce 5800 Series (AGP)
ATI Radeon X800 XT Platinum Edition
ATI Radeon X800 PRO
ATI Radeon 9800 Series
ATI Radeon 9600 Series
ATI Radeon 9550 (RV350LX)
ATI Radeon 9500 / 9700 Series
ATI Radeon 8500 Series
ATI Radeon X300 Series
NVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra
NVidia GeForce 6800 GT
NVidia GeForce 6800
NVidia GeForce FX 5950 Series
NVidia GeForce FX 5900 Series
NVidia GeForce FX 5700 Series

So, your card is way underspecced to play unfortunately :( Strange that your computer is actually quite powerful, whilst your graphics card is pretty old.

However, all is not lost, you could always buy a supported graphics card (such as ATi 9800Pro for about £90). This will see you through most current games too, but won't last much more than a year.

You need a new graphics card. Get one with DirectX 9 support, 128 mb ram (but preferably 256mb to make it a bit more future safe) and i guess your computer is AGP supported not PCI-Express.

Have a look here. The ATi 9800Pro is a good card.

Yeah, its AGP. I built my computer on a bit of a budget! The only thing I paid decent money for was the mobo, ram, proccesor setup. I Bunged it in an old case, use an old monitor, keyboard, mouse. Bought a hard drive, and bought the graphics card for £20 off a mate. Next purchase will be a dvd drive. Seeing as most games are out on dvd now, having a cd only kind of hinders me! After that I was gonna go with a 2.1 sound setup, but maybe i'll look into a graphics card instead.

512mb is almost enough to play with all of the settings on low, regardless of how good your video card or processor is. 512 is the recommended minimum, but realistically that should be 1GB.

*sigh*

I know, i'm gonna get another 512 soon. After the dvd, and the speakers, and the graphics card, and the cordless desktop, and my hard drive is getting full, and i'm in debt annnnnnnddddddd................... my bastard inconsiderate neighbours have turned off their wirless router so i can't get internet in my room anymore

I'm not getting a new PC for a while. :(

W00t!, I'm covered. But this game is definately going to eat up alot of space I have left on this comp.

This is true. I've got 1 gig of ram and still, i am planning on getting another 512 soon.

However a computer at Dunc's spec + another 512 mb ram with that graphics card will not perform better than a computer at Dunc's spec with a newer graphics card. i.e. considering how old that graphics card is and how highly specced the rest of his computer is, you should see better results out of a new graphics card than out of a new block of ram.

You're just looking to show off ;) The 6800 Gt is a v. nice card. Possibly my next upgrade 👍

I'm just playing. I have an Ultra in another comp. that needs to be sold, but the one I'm using now uses a GT.

I know.. I just upgraded to 1gb and will be ordering another 512 stick soon. The game with 512 vs 1gb is night and day. Before I couldn't play on medium settings with an X800 Pro!! Now, everything can be cranked to high, but there is some stuttering during big battles. More ram and I think it's time to re-overclock the 2.4 back to 3.0. :)

PS. I unlocked the PKM Machine Gun last night. The stats say the gun is inaccurate and it definitely is if you just pull the trigger and hold it. When used in burst' however, you can pick people off like a sniper. In close quaters it definitely earns the name Squad Killer.

Got to wait another week or 2 to play BF2 now since I need a new motherboard, CPU and heatsink.

Which means I will have been waiting either 4, 5 or 6 weeks grrrrrr.

What happened to them? Did you burn them up?

No its the motherboard I have at the moment the power on botton connector is a different one. To the other motherboards on the market.

I think Dell are scared of people buying better hardware and case's.

But my P4 is 3/4 years old and I think its time to upgrade to 64bit now.

This is what happens when a Vet. Tank player goes up against noobs. :) The amazing thing is, I did this without spawn-camping!

Got the game for myself, and am truely dissappointed that you can not play the larger maps with the AI.

I like to play by myself every so often, and the AI on average was great in the demo. But I wanted to take them on in an all out war.

Well, the game has to be an ass and only let me challenge them on a 16 player map. 👎

I hope the larger maps are the "unlockables". I love online, but sometimes, if I want to play a full map without hearing comments or having stupid people, I like to play with the AI.

I'm sick of being kicked for mistaken TKs. Like shooting at enemy vehicle it blows and the shock kills a teammate.

I think its good more female's are playing FPS's.

OK what is everyones specs that they have to play BF2.

My PC Rig work in process specs are:

AMD 64 3500+
1GB DDR2700 Ram
256MB GF6800 GT
1x 18.6GB HDD (OS & Programs HDD!!)
1x 120GB SATA 8MB Cache 7200 RPM HDD (Where my games are installed on!!)
48x DVD Rom Drive
24x LG CD-RW Drive (Replacing with 16x Dual Layer DVD-RW Drive in 2 months time w00t.)
Enermax Noisetaker 600W EG701AX-VE(W) SFMA ATX2.0 SLI Compliant PSU
Typhoon Wireless Optical Mouse (Replacing with a gaming mouse in 2 months time w00t.)
17inch CRT
2.2MB Pipex Broadband

Dunc remember, you get what you pay for. Buy a £30 graphics card and you'll be crying, spend the £100 and you should be happy.

For £100, i'd get a 9800Pro, preferably with 256mb ram. Get the best you can for your money. A 256mb 9600 would be good too, so long as it supports Direct X 9.0.

@ TVR:

Not the best setup, but it does play nicely:

Athlon 2600+XP
1 Gb DDR3200
128Mb ATi Saphire Radeon 9800Pro Atlantis with cooler (O/C'd @ 440Mhz)
150Gb HHD
Samsung 913N 19" LCD (12ms, 1280x1024)

Runs BF2 1280x1024 all medium with 6x AA offline, but due to only 1Gb of ram, i turn it down when playing online to 1024x768 medium/low. Getting another 512Mb of ram soon to compensate here.

I found that whilst playing BF2, my ram runs down to about 70Mb from around 800Mb that it sits happily at in Windows. This game is a big BIG memory hog :nervous:

True, but these are not £30 graphics cards are they?

They look like powerful cards at a really cheap prices. Do you know what their RRP is?

Either of those would be a vast improvement on what i have now. And even if they don't play BF2, i've only lost £40 odd quid.

Well, assuming it's quite similar to my 9800Pro (perhaps slightly worse), it'll run BF2 fine. I also own and run FarCry and HalfLife2 (+ CS: S) on my PC without any hitches. As your computer is actually faster than mine, you should be laughing with the 9600XT. The difference between this card and your current card will be extreme.

Obviously get another opinion before spending the cash, but personally i think this card should keep your gaming alive for the next year or two depending on how hard you push your system.

If there was ever a game I would nominate for most lag, it’d be this. I can’t believe how many people have such terrible ping and continue to play.

But, anyways, is there a way to skip the intro? Its getting old…fast.

There is, but I don't know how. Maybe try a google search

edit: I got it.

You have to rename some of the files in the EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Movies directory. My brother added .bak as the extension to the Dice, EA, Intro and Legal files.
