I just finished the game. It was excellent. I really loved the 'Death From Above' stage. That's the one when you're in the AC 130 gunship. That was the best thing I've ever seen. It looked so much like the real AC 130 videos on YouTube.

I'm a bit disappointed in the game play. I couldn't sit back and snipe all the enemies then move forward. You had to rush and area and clear it and then move on. Not my favorite style, but I got used to it after a while. Especially after using the semi-auto shotgun with the night sights. That gun was fun!

I'm also a bit disappointed I couldn't select what firearm I wanted to use for the particular stages. I only came across two different sniper rifle, which were both OK. I just wanted more than two. I had the Dragonov, which is awesome, and the silenced SAS rifle (cannot remember what model it was, actually. Shocking, I know.)

I guess I can try playing online, but not sure really how. I'm I going to have a tough time at it since I'm starting from scratch? What are the benefits I wont have against others?

Well, at least I look forward to Modern Warfare 2, that's for sure. Cannot wait to see more from E3.

Online is whole different experience, but certainly one worth trying. I only started playing online after owning the game for a good 8 months. I'd already gone through and finished the game several times on various levels and thought i was pretty good at it - until i started playing online!

At first you'll get totally annihilated by everyone, but as you learn the various maps and the best places to find cover etc, you'll soon get the swing of things. At first you'll have limited weapons choice, but as your XP (points) goes up, you'll be able to start making custom weapon 'classes' where you get to choose what kind a gun you want and match it with different scopes, side arms, grenades, bombs etc and also what 'perks' suit your playing style best.

There are loads of different game styles to play as well but 'Team Deathmatch' and 'Mercenary Deathmatch' are probably the best ones to start off on. Just follow your team mates and see what they are doing.

I've only been playing online for 6 months now and it's pretty much constantly been in my machine for that time. I've already clocked almost 230 hours of playing time (which is nothing compared to some). So, prepare for handing over all your precious spare time to it!

Yeah, while I LOVED the campaign mode, online is something else. Yes, if you are average player, you will struggle quite a bit. But you should get better after a few hours of playing time, and once you get the hang of it, at least for me, it became an addiction.

I hope to see you online Solid!

Boy, is it different! You ain't kidding about not knowing what the hell I'm doing. I shoot at everybody I see. I can't tell who's the enemy or who's on my team fast enough NOT to shoot anybody I see. Plus, most of the time I can NEVER see the enemy. I wish the game came with a brightness setting because the enemy look so dark, they blend right into the game. I often get killed and I say, "Now, where in the hell did that guy come from. I never frick'n saw him!"

Some of the weapons the people have are pretty cool. The only weapon I can play with are the MP5 or Sniper Rifle. Any other, and I never get a kill. The pistols are absolutely USELESS. By the time I aim and shoot somebody with one, they turn around or point at me and kill me or just run away to cover. If I chase them, I either get ambushed or they run too far away to follow. I guess the pistol is a 'point at the head, or you're dead' firearm in the game. In KZ2, the magnum revolver kills people in two shots if you aim for center mass. That's the way it should be.

I don't think I'll play it much more than I have. I made it to 'Lance Corporal' and that's it for me, I think. Maybe I'll try a little bit more. But, it's going to take a LONG TIME for me to get use to the maps. I think they have way too many cover points and ways of getting into an area unnoticed. I also don't like there's not enough people on a team to cover me if I choose to snipe from some location. I shoot and get a kill and move. Then I get killed by a guy waiting for me to move. That's not that fun. If I stay in an area, I might only get that one kill, so staying in that same position is a very bad tactic. I never do it in KZ2 Online.

I want to read up on all the benefits of leveling up. I noticed in game that I don't get the Dragonov until Lvl 22! I think I'm only Lvl 4. That's going to take too long. I'm only scoring about 40 points a game, at the most. And that's another thing I really, really hate. The matches are never over five minutes! In KZ2, they can go over an hour, if you want.

In short, don't expect me to be online. I'll keep trying for now, but I have a feeling it wont hold me for long.

I never even started on single. I went straight to online. The things most important to the game are, having the right gun depending on which map you play and also immediately checking your connection with the select button.

If it is red you will struggle to kill people, yellow is not so bad, green is basically on the dot and super green means you dont have to worry about missing if the gun is shooting directly at someone.

As for guns, for the large maps I like to snipe, for the building type maps like Vacant etc, I would use a smallish type gun.

In any case I would give the Spec Ops class a try and see how you go.

And like the above have said, it becomes addictive, I have 10 days and 15 hours, not close to some others.

EDIT: A few hours of play and youll get around the maps fine. With regards to pistols, once you get used to the aiming and accuracy factor you can shoot 5 or 6 bullets a second with those things. If I'm a sniper I can easily drop someone with a pistol. Just keep trying, your only level 4, my first few hours were annoying aswell. People were killing me and I didnt know why, just keep trying. I got max of 30 points per game when I was new. Dont give up.

Keep plugging away at it!

Once you get to level 11 or so and you can unlock some better weapons it becomes a tad easier. If you stick with a certain gun and get 25 kills with it (not just in one game) you'll earn the red dot sight - which makes aiming soooo much easier.

I started off with the sniper rifles too after enjoying them in the single player game. It also means you can stay a little further back from the action as well, which when you are just beginning to play online seems like a good way of getting your head around whats going on. But to be fair, it's probably not the best tactic. People soon learn where you've camped yourself and you'll find you'll get taken out more often than making the kill yourself. I'm on my 4th Prestige now and when i play a map where a sniper rifle make sense, i still only get a handful of kills per match and usually get killed more than i kill. The sniper rifles are better once you level up and can swap your secondary gun (a pistol) with an assault rifle or sub machine gun.

I'll keep an eye out for when i'm online and if you are playing it too, i'll invite you to join a game and we can buddy up and watch each other's back.

I recommend you follow Legendairy's tips.

Solid Lifters: You're level 4.. I think you already unlocked the AK47 and the "Create a Class" thing..
Make a class like this:
AK47 w/ noobtube
USP .45
Perk 1 - disabled (noobtube cancels it out)
Perk 2 - Stopping Power
Perk 3 - Steady Aim or Extreme Conditioning

MP5
M9
Perk 1 - Whichever
Perk 2 - Stopping Power
Perk 3 - Steady Aim
^- This class is cheap but, hey, it makes you feel like a pro. Hip-fire a lot with this and you'll get a lot of kills.

5th prestige here.

I manage to rack up 200-250 points with my sniper on a TDM, not a sniper lobby. But some of that might not be sniper, I might have had to whip out a pistol and take some out but hey. Personally I dont like removing stopping power because that gets rid of one shot kills... Once people get the hang of it their fine.

Sounds good. Just don't expect me to be any good.

Yes, I did unlock "Create a Class' but I have no idea what it is. I know I saw the 'perks' but didn't know what I should get. To be hones, I don't know what is available. I haven't unlocked the AK47, yet. I don't want it anyway. I'll take an M4 over it.

I have no idea what 'prestige' means. lol

You guys got good advice, and I appreciate that. Is there a good link you recommend where I can learn all this stuff myself?

Prestige is where you get to rank 55, and you trade all you guns and challenges for a new symbol next to your name. Ultimately, at the end you get a gold cross next to your name for the tenth prestige. To prestige, get to level 55 and you will unlock prestige mode, you go back to level 1 and get to have the fun of leveling back up to 55 again. Once you hit 55 you can prestige again.

The first result is the symbols. Sorry I cant provide direct link but the school internet blocks that site :(.

Wow, interesting stuff. So, it's like starting over in a GT game. It's building a new car with the little money you start off with. That was fun, but I don't think I'll play this game enough to get into that.

I just played online and I think I did a little better. I finally played a game that didn't end in five minutes or less. More enjoyable, but I still suck. I just can't see the enemy that very well.

Oh, I did have the AK and it was awesome. I added some perks, and was happy to know I could change them anytime I want. I thought they would be permanent, like in Fallout 3.

I going to play again soon, but the really good guys are coming home right now so I might hold off. Don't want to get spanked too hard; it'll be too painful to sit down.

For an average player like myself, unlocking the perks is critical. Once you level up close to 50(as said, goes up to 55), you pretty much have everything you need.

Perk 2 are the most important class of perks. Most popular should be the stopping power, which adds to any firearms you use. Add this to guns like MP5, M16, or AK47, guns with plenty of stopping power already, and you'll be able to take down your opponent in a hurry. If your aim sucks(like me  ), I'd recommend P90. Spray 'n' Pray baby! It spits like million bullets a minute. UAV jammer is a very useful second perk(class). UAV Jammer makes you invisible on the enemy radar, and with my limited "skillz", I rely on this perk heavily.

Perk 1 mostly has to do with your optional explosives. You don't have any of these yet, but in order I select: 1) claymores 2) three frag grenades 3) bandolier(extra clips)

Claymores doesn't just help you pick up bonus kills, used effectively, it's a game(or match) changer. It could effectively cut off the opposition route(like the sneaking you mentioned), or simply used to watch your back. Three frags will become useful once you get down with the maps. You cook'em before you throw'em, and you gotta know where "they" like to hang out. Bandolier's absolutely useless for noobies. When you are on a roll, you can be assured that you'll have plenty of ammunition this way, but: 1) noobies doesn't live long enough to need extra ammos. 2) you can always pick up other people's weapons on the ground.

The third perks are not as important as the Perk 1 or 2. My favorite perk 3 is the deep impact. This lets you shoot through walls, peoples. Great way to kill 2, 3 enemies with one spray of bullets. Since you like to snipe, another good one is that hold breath thing, that I can't remember the name to right now. lol It gives you another couple seconds of steady to target your guy in the scope. I sometimes use the deadsilence. It pretty much eliminates the foot step sound, so you can sneak up on the enemy.

On the noobie advice, I'd say don't use the grenade launcher/noob tube. My opinion is that red dot is critical for weapons like M4/M16, AK47, etc., until you get some experience under your belt. It helps your view tremendously, and your aim, too.

Pistols are hard to use in the beginning, but like the Legendary said, once you get used to them, you can take people out without any problems, though you can't expect to go up to a good player who has a MP5, face-to-face, and take him down with your silenced USP45(my pistol! :p). I try to be sneaky, when using a pistol.

Sorry it got so long, but here are my recommendation on the primary weapons:

MP5 - Easily the best 1st gun. Open/iron sights doesn't obstruct your view much, and has better than decent fire rate, stopping power, accuracy. Holds a lot of ammo. Just remember to keep your enemy in close range.

M4 - M16's actually a lot nicer with the longer range, way more stopping power, but for new players, the lack of full-auto I think is too much. M4's like a slightly shorter range, less stopping power, but full-auto version of that great rifle. It's super easy to use with a red dot.

R700 - I know you like the Dragonov, and it seems every CoD4 snipers has a different favorite rifle. For me, R700 has top-notch stopping power, accuracy, and you don't have to reload a whole cartridge at a time. And the slow fire rate isn't an issue with a sniper rifle, so.......

Any way, that's my take on those guns.

P.S. Do use those plentiful of covers in the game. Taking cover is very, very important in this game. Like you mentioned, I've had plenty of "WTF! How in the hell did that guy get me!" or "OMFG, how in the .... am I supposed to kill guys I can't see!". lol It will get better. I hope you stick with it!

Edit:
I going to play again soon, but the really good guys are coming home right now so I might hold off. Don't want to get spanked too hard; it'll be too painful to sit down.
Don't even worry about that. Most of us, the experienced one's, we still get some really good spanking every now and then. OK, I'm lying, it happens little more often than that. :D

I made it to Staff Sergent and quit. I got bored with it. I got a little bit better, but it's just not for me. It goes back to GF in the mail tomorrow.

I appreciated the help, though. Thanks dudes. 👍

You break my heart! :(

How unexpected...such an awesome game online just doesnt suit our Solid Lifter.

There's alot more alternatives out now that offer a slower more tactical online experience. I believe this is why SL hasn't enjoyed his stay on COD4.

I really am just pulling at straws here but I sense SL prefers those kind of alternatives where you have to take your time a bit more and plan your movements whereas on COD by the time you make the perfect plan it's already been ruined by it's furious pace on most modes.

There just isn't many ways to implement a proper strategy on most modes as you are just as good rushing with grenades and spraying like a mad man.

Sorry buddy, but I just couldn't get into it. I like KZ2 better, but I'm getting tired of that, too.

Nope, it didn't. I'm not saying it's bad; I just didn't love it enough to keep playing it over and over again. It's a great game, though. I definitely want Moder Warfare 2 when it comes out November 10th.

That's what killed it for me. Grenade spammers. I remember the very first time I started a game, a grenade came crashing down on us and took two of us out. Plus, it wasn't as tactical as KZ2. That's why I love it so much more. KZ2 is like chess and COD4 is like checkers. Now, checkers needs tactics and a bit of strategy, but chess demands more attention and thought. I rather play a game of chess.

You can see why a lot of the time I HATE KZ2. Guys come in there only wanting 'KILLS' and don't bother to play the game correctly. With COD4, it's just run or sneak and get kills. That's it. Nobody use strategy or had plans at all. That's boring. At least for me.

I welcome the day when we have a game that's BETTER than KZ2. I think one is coming sooner rather than later, but I'm not holding my breath. MAG looks interesting, but with so many players, I doubt they'll be on the same page as the war planners and again, we'll have a bunch of 'nade spammers and 'crack-addicted monkeys' looking only for 'KILLS.'

Well look no further, I may have the solution for you coming at the end of the year which I personally am seriously excited about. Ever heard of Operation Flashpoint ? OF2 is scheduled for release on PC, 360 and PS3 towards the end of this year and the developers are keeping heavy focus on realism in every aspect, to the point that you'll spend alot of time just travelling through the field to your objective without seeing a single foe (single player and online co-op confirmed, no word on any other multiplayer options yet that I know of). The twist is you will be slogging through the field, but if you let your guard down you could easily be the subject to a waiting ambush, or similarly bad situation. Basically this is one of the most gritty realistic shooters we will likely see in a long time, in a press conference they point out that war isn't always constant action, and how one soldier during his year long tour of Afghanistan, only actually saw 2 hostile foes.

Of course they won't be going that far, it still has to be a game at the end of the day, but you get the kind of direction they're going with it. Enough on that though.

That sounds interesting. That more than less sounds like what I would want. But, it doesn't have one thing I LOVE about KZ2 and that is player placed respawn areas. A whole new door of strategy opens up that I absolutely love.

Omnis showed me a game set in the Revolutionary War era that looked fantastic. The name escapes me right now, but it's a PC game not a console game. I'll get it when I build my new PC this fall or winter.

Thanks for the head's up. 👍

I know what you mean about CoD4 being full-on hectic most of the time, it can be a bit much, especially on certain arenas - Wet Work (on the ship), Shipment (container yard) and Kill House (training warehouse) where if you last more than 20 seconds before being killed you've done well.

The driving force behind CoD4 online is the XP system - so people are always going to go for the quick kill above anything else.

Some of the game styles i think are aimed towards a more tactical, slower moving game pace, but you end up, most of the time, with people playing them in the same way as they would play the more straight forward type of games and you end having to follow suit. Even the Hardcore matches, where you don't automatically respawn and don't get the hud-radar, which enables you to just lob grenades in the general direction of the red dots, games still end up as a huge kill-fest and you even get guys on your own team trying to kill you (which you can do under hardcore rules).

I've always quite enjoyed playing 'Free For All' where no one is on the same team. It sounds like a recipe for chaos, but infact you spend much more time hiding, creeping, planting claymores and generally being a bit more tactical than you do when you know at least half the other players are not going to kill you. You don't generally get the half the points you would do playing other 'team' game styles which puts some people off, but you do end up playing the whole game at a different pace and with a much more tense atmosphere.

There just isn't enough scale on the maps for CoD.

Oh and OF2 allows you to take the objective in any number of ways seeing as the game takes place on one island (or so i'm told) and you're given the freedom to do anything once you're inserted. Although I'm not sure if you'll lead the AI or what, but in co-op you could easily take your squad and execute different tactics. Also OF1 has a rather complicated but still, mission maker, so there was never a lack of missions.

This game. :)

But that's a strategy game. I don't know that I would play a game that is trying to give you a soldier's experience. That's pretty traumatic. The whole point of FPS shooters is either, (A) I'm a fictitious hero dude who takes out the enemy by myself, or (B) I'm a killing other players to display my superiority as a gamer.

If you play in regular game modes (not hardcore [HC]) always use stopping power, it'll take 1 less bullet for you to kill anyone at any range. Since you are barely starting, stick to the AK-47 (no attachment) and the MP5 (RDS). Find a solid group of teammates to play with and you won't lose.

I've been playing the game for about 27 game days or around 650 hours.

I'm also going to suggest that, like me, SL isn't just worried about winning or doing good, it's the way it all takes place that matters.

I still play this game, almost everyday. Is there something wrong with me? :dopey:

Also, will we have one of those "meets" things ever again? Although the connection speed between us, Australians and the British are pretty poor, it is so much more fun playing with the people you (sort of) know.

I last played with TheCracker on PSN. When I had good connection, I think he had like one bar. When he had decent connection, everybody was jumping around in my game.

Today was sooo good and so bad at the same time. All day today I have been getting 30+ kills in TDM and raking in 2 choppers and around 3 airstrikes every match.

One match on crossfire I was using my trust M4 Carb with bandolier, Acog, Stopping power and deep impact. I had been using this all day and all the previous day instead of my acog'd M40.

In this particular match, I had gotten a chopper within a minute of my previous death. I was thinking how awesome I was going. Next thing you know I had 10 kill streak camping out in a building for a sec. All the opposing team was in the single building next to a large doorway. Alright time to own. Zoom in, aaanndddd SPRAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! +10, +20, +30!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok this is now getting EPIC. My chopper takes out 2 of them in about 2 seconds of the previous being killed. Legendary724 now has a killstreak of 15! Oh a noob, Zoom, shoot DEAD. My previous killstreak record was that of 16 and I have now topped 16. This is the good part. 1 second later something really really annoying popped up.

750 - 360.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, my streak was ended because we won at 750 points. All I ever wanted was to beat my 16 kill streak, many times I have come so close. Today was the most annoying time ever...

That was my day, how was yours :p.

Played it for the first time today, a couple of missions. Nice, I know Mulitplayer is what people rave about, have to try that out soon.

You better try that soon, son.
