Making an effective defense for sabotage. Ok sounds kind of obvious but I had a very good match at bloc last night 47-10 and despite numerous assults on our base and there where a few tactics I used which could be applied to most maps, since many people don't actually bother to defend and just play 'chase the bomb', or even just play 'run around aimlessly killing' to improve their Kill:death, to get the win you may be required to hold the fort by yourself. Some maps allow you to defend better than others, the more closed of your base is the easier. I am going to use Bloc as the example in this.
With it being sabotage, your defending a static object and the enemy is going to be approaching from one side of the map only although they may approach via obscure route's. All prety obvious but it allows you to use a general setup for pretty much all of the maps.
Must be a long range, but also very capable at medium range, most maps will have long stretch you will be required to defend (exceptions to this being downpour vacant and showdown where there are very few places where you are required to do a long range kill.) maps such as bloc, ambush, even wetworks, if your gun is effective at medium range then it should be irrelavent anyway.
Recommendations
Primary weapon: Must be a long range, but also very capable at medium range, most maps will have long stretch you will be required to defend (exceptions to this being downpour vacant and showdown where there are very few places where you are required to do a long range kill.) maps such as bloc, ambush, even wetworks, if your gun is effective at medium range then it should be irrelavent anyway. G3, m16, m14 these assault rifles can be used effectively with any attachment be it grenade launcher, RDS, silencer, ACOG. although I wouldn't recommend the silencer, most of the time the enemy is going to know where you are, your survival will rely on effective positioning, good cover and weaponry suitable for the job (all of which you will have

). And DO NOT ATTACH GRENADE LAUNCHER, you need perk 1 for claymores. Light machine guns can be effective at range but you
can't use the grip again because you need claymores. If you think you can use snipers effectively at medium range by all means use them, I don't however as I am hopeless with them.
Secondary weapon: Go for the Gold desert Eagal if you have one, just because its cool

otherwise go for which one you like. It doesn't matter really because your going to ditch it (unless you find handguns to be the best close range weapon

) If you are using overkill, then go for a submachine gun or a shotgun (not recommended) for reasons I will explain later.
Perk 1: Claymore no questions, without them your defense isn't going to work.
Perk 2: whichever you want really, don't bother with UAV jammer overkill might be worth it so you can customise your second slot to perfection, but I recommend good old stopping power, if your feeling noobish you could give juggernaut a go also, but I strongly recommend stopping power as you only need two well placed shot for long range making things much easier.
Perk 3: Deep penatration is recommended to help dispose of partially concield opponents but otherwise take your pick, don't go for extreme conditioning though your not going have to be sprint for any particular distance.
Special grenade: Use whichever you want I use flash but they all do a similar job, if you use smoke, then don't whatever you do throw it near your base as its just going to work in your oppoents favour, it can be used against the enemy effectivly but I shall leave it to your judgment.
Setting up your staggered defense:
First things first, Look at the map and consider an attackers route, If your lucky maps like Bloc only have two routes to your base, making this a very effective defense on this map, some like ambush and crossfire have 2 or 3 routes of attack depending which side you are on.
You need to place claymores effectively. If you can use them to kills great, but even when there is nowhere to hide you claymore, just placing them in such a way that an opponent has no choice but to shoot it to get through is all you need for defence purposes. If there are two routes of access then its simple two claymores either route, then adopt a long range shooting position within or as close to your base as possible. If there are three routes of access, you need to position yourself for long range kills, but you still need to make sure that you have visability of the third (unguarded) access route.
Assuming your setup and have found youself a weapon capable of close range. You can pick of a number of people, you don't need to worry about a lack of victims, many people will be heading your way or to your base. stay there until.
A) You die - In which case respawn and replant your claymores.
B) You run out of bullets - Find another Long range gun
C) You get hurt or getting shot at by too many people for comfort - Retreat towards your base
D) A claymore trips - pull out your close range weapon and investigate, even if it killed them there could be more than one.
E) someone mysteriously snuck into your base without tripping a claymore and has and has planted the bomb - Panic!!!
The reason I call this a staggered defense is because you have 3 lines of defense to fall back on while your still alive.
First line while they are still approaching at a distance. This is either at the start of the game or when one of your players has made it to their base and they have all retreated to kill him. I you are a good shot and you have good players on your team in the right places, you can hold this position for a few minutes or until you run out of bullets.
second line of defense is your claymores these not only kill attackers but also lets you know your not alone, if one trips you move back to you and you have opponents in your base then you assume your third line of defense.
The third line of defense is the simple one, pull out your SMG and shoot every enemy mother****** in sight. good cover is advised though there is rarely any so close to the base, you can alternatively try the rambo approach which is less effective but more fun.
In my game at bloc last night no one managed to even begin planting a bomb in our base, the game ended a draw, my team just played syncronised dying out in the open but had it been another map I wouldn't have been able to fight off opponents myself. If your opponents do manage to plant a bomb then there is a simple tactic which most players don't adopt.
Everyone seems to want to be the hero, as soon as the bomb activated appears and the 30 second timer shows up, half the team panics and dives on the floor by the bomb and gets out their diffusal kit. This results in them all getting shot within the first 5 seconds.simple tactic is to clear the area of opponents as quickly and efficently as possible then diffuse the bomb as the oppoents will respawn on the other side of the map after waiting 5 seconds to respawn and as a result have no hope in hell of stopping you from diffusing the bomb, the act of diffusing the bomb only takes about 3 seconds so can be left the last 10 seconds before the entire team has a crack at diffusing the bomb.
A few notes on when not to use this defense. If there are more than 3 enterances to the bomb then don't even think about this method unless you can ask a teammate to help you hold the fort, some do, some don't. If the path is too wide to be covered by a claymore then don't count on using a claymore to let you know if an oppenent has made it inot the base. Some maps such as overgrown don't lend themselves to this tactic, claymores can be used on the bridge, but you can only protect one side with long range kills, so if you can't get teamates support then plant the claymores but leave it at that.
You would think if you sit and defend you miss all the action, but it isn't the case, if you are by the a base you can count on plenty of enemy traffic coming your way, at bloc last night I didn't go outside my claymore perimeter but I got 47 kills and only 10 deaths, I was top scorer of the match by nearly double.
Finally I shall leave you with a top tip. If you are planning on doing the staggered defense then don't pick up the bomb

. I have done it before accidentally
