Always a fan of St. Croix turning up, especially in Manufacturers

Surprised we don't have a 10mil+ one-make at Goodwood though.

Think we're getting 2 new tracks (or one new track with 2 layouts). There's a Gr3 race on a TBA track (extremely unlikely to be Goowood, Gr3 cars there would be criminal) and then theres 2 more Gr4 races on TBA tracks and PD doesnt repeat the same combo inside a season.

Having waaaaay lower tyre wear on the Gr4 and 3 races for nations is a good indicative of lower tyre wear for Manufacturers also.

Tonight will be my last FIA race until something changes... Just tried a 1 stop softs / mediums with TC control. Still drifting lap 4 / 9... can't be bothered with it anymore. So last one to sign off until they decide they want racing in FIA and balanced racing at that, will stream later.

edit: My twitter post which shows exactly the problem.

Phew, Nations went according to plan, more or less. Someone smacked into the back of me in qualifying, writing one lap off. Decided I couldn't afford to write off 2 laps pitting, so just stayed out for 4 flying laps. Qualified 2nd.

Then in the race, the pole qualifier pulled away slowly, and a few people gradually overtook me from behind. I felt I was driving fairly solidly, so given that the 3rd place driver had qualified 0.7 slower than me, which is quite a lot, I felt it was likely the people overtaking me were going to pit, vs my no-stop plan. So I just carried on driving steadily, using fuel at the planned rate, and conserving my tyres. Sure enough, everyone ahead of me but the pole qualifier pitted. With 2 laps to go, I was 7 secs down on 1st place, and 4 secs up on 3rd place. One approach would have been to just sit there and play it really safe, but I thought there's always a chance the person ahead will make a mistake or run out of fuel, and maybe 0.5 seconds could end up being vital, so I carried on pushing. I haven't checked the replay yet to see what happened to the pole driver, but the gap started to plummet during the last lap. So I kept on pushing, but whatever their problem was, it wasn't enough, and I crossed the line in 2nd, 2.4 seconds behind the winner.

784 points, an FIA event PB, beating the 642 pts I got for 2nd at Tsukuba in the Trueno race, as my DR has gone up since then.

Qualified 3rd behind two 911's, half a second ahead of the next X-Bow. They squabbled a bit in the opening lap and I got past and maintained a 2-3 second lead over them. When we pitted I had ~30% fuel left, one of the others had 13 and one had 0. I came out in 5th as four no-stopping X-Bows went past. Came out right behind one who I passed quickly, and one pitted on lap 7 or 8 with 5% fuel left. Ended up finishing 8.8 seconds behind the guy who qualified 4th, though I wasn't as consistent in my second stint. I also lost about 5 seconds (probably) through the last chicane, just couldn't get the car feeling comfortable there at all.

I pitted because I didn't trust myself to run one set of tyres throughout the whole race. Still, 1k+ points for the second time ever (and in a real race!) and I'm quite happy with that.

Also, this car is... interesting when it's in N500.

Joined the X-Bow brigade after discovering its potential for myself during practice runs. Qualified 7th and attempted a no-stopper which got me involved in a few close battles. Pulled off some clean passes and saved enough fuel in the second half to go flat-out in the final few laps, despite being left with well-worn tyres. Crossed the line in 5th place, 11 and a half seconds off the eventual winner, for a score of 1,404 (formerly 1,405) points.

So, Porsche doesn't seem too bad tyre wear wise.

Coincidentally, this is also my first session after the physics update. Did 9 laps at Maggiore in a custom lobby to test wear/physics. I can feel more through my G29 now. Which is nice. Not sure I'm a fan of the oversteer on corner entry thing. But it only took me a lap to get used to it.

Hopefully, I don't bin it . .

I've been away most of the week but managed to get online in time to give the last manufacturers race of the Pre-Season a go with no preparation done whatsoever. As I've often found, if I spend time preparing, the race usually goes in the bin. If I just jump in I'll do alright.

So I get my second podium of the season and my first ever haul of over 1,000 points! Couldn't be happier with how that went really! Almost caught the no stopper who finished 2nd but it wasn't to be. Roll on the official season with slightly less brittle tyres.

My nations race from last night, round 10. Was a tough battle and not a combo I enjoyed. I have never been a big fan of the KTM cars, but gave it my best anyway and had a blast fighting for the lead through most of the race!

My Manu cup replay corrupted and I only got half the race, I will put that review up later but will take a little more work.

So, about 5 minutes away from starting the 2nd slot for nations. Anyone want to share how the tire wear is on the 911 GT3 RS? Never found any good practice rooms to see for myself.

I did both the Manufacturers and Nations Cup yesterday, which I haven't done before strangely enough. Tyre wear was a sick joke in the Manufacturers and I was struggling the entire way. I started first in the Corvette and I didn't think I'd really be given a huge challenge, but I was wrong. When the tyres started to wear, I had to scrub off a heap of speed to get through the corners. This problem is tough to manage on a controller. I pitted on lap 5, one lap after the guy in second and ended up rejoining behind. That wasn't an issue as I was on better tyres. I was able to get by but as soon as I did that, he dropped back down the order. I thought it was over but a Subaru wasn't having it. So on heavily worn tyres, I had to defend the lines aggressively to ensure he didn't get past. On the last corner, I went to the inside but left just enough of a space for the Subaru to get past. I thought I'd covered him but no. I can't handle the car with extreme tyre wear, it's a constant battle to keep pace. Maybe I've picked the wrong car...

Anyhow, I did the Nations Cup race and surprisingly, I was the only F40 in the race. Then again with the competition I was up against, it didn't really matter. I was able to qualify third behind two GT3 RS's which isn't a bad effort considering the age gap between the cars. The race itself was pretty boring and stayed in third for the first half. I tried to save a bit of fuel so I'd spend less time in the pits, and I think it worked as I gained on the leader. Not enough to challenge but anyway; a gain none the less. Yet I came out of the pits in second instead of third; the guy who started there went AWOL and must've made some horrendous error to drop more than 20 seconds on me. Nothing happened after that and I took second without any fuss. The F40 is great with fuel and tyres compared to the Porsche which probably weighs more and has extra power. Not much frustration compared to the other events I've done.

About 4-5 secs slower in the viper on Maggiore than usual. Tire wear wasn't bad, but the snake was slow before the update, and it's useless after. If I'm forced to drive it in the next round, guess I just won't be racing anymore. Plus got punted anyways by some dude who dropped out of the race as per usual. Real driving simulation at it's finest.

Only did 1 hour of practice for both Nations/Manu this week, I'm surprised I hung on for that long in Nations with the wrong car, and wrong strategy (911 with one stop), in top split lobby  Though I never liked the XBOW on street tyres so even no stopping that I prolly wouldn't have fared much better. Manu though, oh my god. Due to lack of practice and the physics change I qualified well down the order in my 458. It was probably second split but I see a lot of new names and boy driving standards were absolutely trash back in the pack. Maybe it has always been like that as I don't normally qualify that far back, but man it's atrocious. Lots of weaving, blocking, divebombing, you name it. Very erratic driving and not helping given the state of tyre wear with MR cars.

I really wish we could opt to cancel our Manufacturer contract even if that means forfeiting all our points so far. Next season it seems tyre wear has been reduced, so we'll see if the Ferrari becomes more competitive. If not then I might just drop it and concentrate on Nations instead. The new physics are also not helping my driving enjoyment at the moment. Not a great time to be playing GT Sport. Maybe I'll just take a break for a while and stick with ACC...

Nations Cup
Today's Nations Cup race was substandard. I had finished 7th in a very tumultuous race. As a result of that race, I'm officially boycotting any future point races in Kyoto from then on.

Manufacturers Series
In the Manufacturers Series, I had finished 3rd. My views on the races I had entered had been very negative. There's not gonna be anymore races for me in the MS after this season.

Mine also. Did yours cut with about two laps remaining?

Nope, only 4 laps in. I think I have figured out that less than 100mb free space, the replay may only save to a file that is approx 40mb, where the replay file should be closer to 80mb. When it is only 40mb, the game will only got to a certain lap, not record lap times and lock up the game when you try to skip forward in the replay. This is just a theory atm, but kinda lines up with my experience and other replays that have been giving me issues.

Nations:
Botched Qualifying so got 12th and while I did have some nice battles, never really went anywhere. Pretty clean race.

Manufacterers:
Botched Qualifying again (Looks like fighting SuperGT for that top Tier Bottlejob crown) and got 18th. Was going through the field and the exquisitely flawed penalty system struck when a guy flies across my path, destroys a car in front of me but I get a 3 second penalty for contact I didn't even feel. Still managed a Top 10 as I wanted to, but this race about sums up how Manufacterers has been for the most part.

Overall, I'm feeling more and more convinced that Nations Cup is where I should be. Of the two, I've had way more better races despite the constant switching of cars (and the damn Tire Wear). If I get a win somehow in Nations, I might just do that completely. With Manufacterers preseason done, looks like Nations will be the last race of the evening from this point on.

Wow so much drama in my MFG race, but I somehow still pulled off a good result, so here it is.

Qualified poorly, started 11th. I had a less than clean battle with wwe on the first stint where I accidentally gave him a .5s penalty and he later turned in on me when I took his inside through turn 4. That put me in 15th...sad face.

I had a much smarter and smoother 2nd stint, despite getting squeezed through turns 3 and 4 again for some deja vu. People really think they can leave the door that wide open without getting overtaken? SMH. And let’s not forget to battle to the death while carrying 9 seconds of penalties!

Somehow still, throughout all this chaos and battling, I made it back to finish P3! You definitely know there were some incidents if you can start in 11th, get booted to 15th, then still get a podium. RIP to the not-so-lucky ones!

Enjoy the race.

Only did Manufacturers today. 1st slot was really strong with 2.7k points to offer but I bottled qualify, started 10th, finished 7th.

Did the race again, this time on a decent lap, still couldve improved a bit, but good enough for 2nd. For the race, it was always hard to hold the Beetle behind me, good result.

Coming off the heels of a rough Manufacturers race @ Maggiore in the last top split, really gutted that I only got 6th when I was on for a podium.

It's those esses, man. Especially Turn 7. There's a little strip of grass just over the curb, and if you run over it the wrong way, the car promptly loses its balance. I found that out in practice lobbies and also from watching @Tidgney 's stream where he lost balance at Turn 7 a couple of times. During my first stint, I avoided cutting that turn like the plague, and I was able to keep up with the top pack behind the bumper of Wardez for a while in 5th, where I started.

But then the tire wear started kicking in, and it got to the point where I had to cut Turn 7 just to get a good run through Turn 8 and have some extra speed for the straight. But, because I didn't cut, I had to slow down so much for Turn 8 on Lap 4, and just like that I'm almost a second away from the top pack, out of the draft.

From then on, I had a battle with @OutlawQuadrnt for 5th, eventually losing the spot as I had pushed too hard at the start of my second stint in an admittedly half-hearted attempt to get back to the bumper of Wardez. I would've lost 6th to an FT-1 driver but he made the same mistake I was so afraid of making right in front of me on the last lap, and fortunately I was able to claw my way back to 6th.

Not a terrible result and still a fair race, but I'm definetely gutted I couldn't stay in the fight for podium positions in this last chance I had to make significant gains in my ranking. I know the Aston had the pace to do so, but my hesitation with one particular corner kept me out of it.

Overall, it's been a roller coaster of a season, from getting a black screen glitch in qualfying for Brands Hatch to winning the non-Top 16 top split race at Suzuka (never posted about it, but fair play to @Wardez, that was a great battle we had in that race). Hopefully I can keep it up in the next season but I know it's not going to get any easier.

Good battling with you. I really didn't help myself by bottling qualifying all three times. Worst part is that I don't know what I did wrong save for one session. Had I backed up my practice fliers in the last slot, a win would've been feasible. Then again, the VGT did get more sketchy with the increased tire wear but compared to all the other MR cars, I was likely one of the best for wear considering the circumstances. I'll try to get a vid of that race tomorrow.

In the meantime, exhibition is over and I worked my sheet one last time.

So how many withdrawals would it theoretically take for the top player in the 5th placed region to get a world tour invite by default?

Asking for a friend...

Had one of the least enjoyable nights ever last night. Manufacturers was a disaster. I simply couldn’t get my head around the new physics, but still, I felt like I put an amazing lap in, yet it was good for second last, more than 2 seconds off pole. Top split can be bloody brutal. The Mazda’s tyre life was truly horrific, doing a second stop on softs was not possible. Ended up coming last choosing not to RQ to preserve DR and SR.

Nations felt like a loosely monitored track day than a race. Stupidly decided to risk an 1100 point score for another go, was making vast inroads on the cars ahead, loving life until this happened...

The game for me is pretty much unplayable after this physics update. Not looking forward to the next season at all, especially if I’m unable to switch cars. All the fun has been sapped, and feels like a chore.

Almost all Manus with MR Gr.3s and 4WD Gr.4s are on the back of leaderboard. Wonder why
