Driving the Gr.3s with the new physics feels more like figuring out an algorithm or mathematic formula than driving a car. It feels so strange and I really hope it was a mistake on PD’s part. Gr.3 racing has never been fun but at least previously it felt like it was because I just couldn’t figure it out rather than because the game was broken.

Maggiore race went normally, with me in the VW VGT mid pack all race. I was in the same race as @Winnie847 and no idea how he gained so much ground. The race was single file and boring for the most part like Gr.3 always is, except for when someone crashes. Finished 10th after starting 14th after a lot of crashes by people in the last few laps. Felt like a win in that car on RM tires but still only 1000 something points. Watched @Winnie847’s stream, no idea how everyone else managed on RS tires. His RS’s looked the same as my RM’s after 4 laps.

The Nations race turned out to be great though. The XBow drove like utter garbage in free practice without wear on but in the race it was really fun. Drove from 9th to 4th for ~1600, almost got 3rd at the end. Had someone to race all race, very clean driving since I was racing the same group of guys I’ve been racing in almost every race this season (The359, Applepop-007, Turismo-Groove, etc), lots of battling for position all race and fighting the car every lap like every race should be. Wasn’t very difficult to save fuel and no stop either, unlike the Supra races. The fuel and tire wear multiplier in that race was pretty much perfect. The car was still more fun to drive with the old physics though.

This season has been a comedy of errors by PD, the last minute decision to allow manufacturer changes just proves that. They have zero connection or understanding with the core playerbase and it just keeps alienating all of us.

Finished off my Manufacturers cup video, something a little different as I only had half the race to show with the replay dropping out.

@Tidgney I'm still sticking with Ferrari, I believe those tire wear multipliers will be fine. Maybe one or two races may be marginal, but most of them look well within limits.

@JonoStan96 That is rough. Unfortunately how the penalty system works, and I guess luckily only a 3 second penalty, but that hurts a lot around there.

EDIT: For those wondering where my other video is (not that anyone asked :D ), as I usually post in pairs, it is just further up the page

My Nations Cup race. It's shocking, watching the replay, just how different my lines are to what I was trying to achieve! At least it gives some hope that I can get to a higher standard if I can figure out how to consistently make the execution match the intent.

I think the M6 is either OP on tires, or it just happens to do well at Maggiore on softs. I think if I had qualified better I could’ve won that race. It became obvious to me during practice races that anybody in an M6 had a sizeable advantage as the other cars that do well on tires didn’t typically have the top end that the M6 has. Even still, I was pleasantly surprised to be able to make up that much ground, especially after several incidents and mistakes.

Anyhow, it was great racing with you, and thanks for facilitating that pass when we crossed paths. That’s not an easy place to do so and stay clean.

After pointers from @Winnie847 I logged some great practice times, but when it was time for quali I did not translate that well and started in 17th.
But.... after a great race I improved 12 positions. ! Watch it here !

I just watched it, and what a great race! Gaining 12 positions in any race is a huge accomplishment. You seem to be a very clean and courteous driver, much respect!

My replay is posted above if you’d like to check it out.

I just wonder how many people are going to be switching to Toyota and Volkswagen when the official Manufacturers season starts.

Keith.

So is the Gr.4 Scirocco not bad for tyre wear? When I was even more clueless about all this than I am now, I signed with Mitsubishi. Did one Gr.4 practice session and realised there was no possibility of being competitive as a pit stop was unavoidable whereas there was other cars that were no slower but could do a no-stop.

But if I look at the manufacturer rankings, it doesn't look like a great way to pick one. McLaren is very low down, but the Gr.3 F1 and Gr.4 650S seem like solid performers, so I think the quality of drivers is more strongly determining the manufacturer rankings than the quality of cars?

What is a good manufacturer to go for after this latest update? I'm not expecting to be near the top for any manufacturer, I'd just like to be able to take part if there's a track I particularly like, and not be at a huge disadvantage. Looking down the list, and based on what relatively little experience I have of driving the various cars, BMW looks like a fairly solid choice?

Looking for your opinions guys.

I have been signed with Ferrari, and managed to finish 1st in the Manufacturer for North America region, now although it is fun to finish 1st in a Manufacturer, now that PD has decided we can switch Manufacturers again, what should I do?

I can either stick with a "not so good" car, and struggle all season to get decent results but have a shot at a decent finishing position in a Manufacturer, or switch to a different manufacturer which would give me a bit more pleasure driving their car, while not getting as good a result within said manufacturer?

That's an awesome result! First for any MFG is good stuff man, but it just doesn't seem likely that Ferrari will be ranked high enough in the global rankings for you to make it to a live event. Personally, I would just choose a MFG that I enjoy driving, or want to learn how to drive. I've switched at every opportunity and I think it's made me a better driver being forced to deal with each car's characteristics. Having said that, you've already done well with one of the more difficult MFG's to drive for. On one hand, you have all the glory of finishing 1st, on the other, the higher ranked lobbies you enter, the less likely your car is to have the outright pace needed to win. Have you considered Mazda? It's a less popular MFG that can still get good results if you can manage the Gr.4 tire wear and the Gr.3 lack of top end. Handling is fantastic in Gr.3 and tire wear is decent enough.

Also, nice racing with you yesterday. Thanks for hosting the practice lobbies.

Thanks for the response Winnie847, I don't ever expect to go to a live event haha I am no where near as quick as the fellas that go to them. However, I like being competitive within my class, which with the Ferrari, I don't feel I quite was.

I think I will need to test out a few cars!

Looking at the tyre wear compared to last season it looks as if they have dialed the tyre wear back a little.

They've reduced the wear a little, chosen slightly harder tyres and (mostly) removed the options of 2 tyre compounds. Hopefully this will make the MR cars a bit more competitive in Gr.3 as it was silly this past season.

As to the manufacturer, I will probably move from VW as too many people have realised the Beetle/Scirocco combination is pretty solid. I think they will struggle a bit more with the tracks the season but anything twisty that involves a bit of tyre wear then they are quite strong.

I think I'm heading back to Lexus for the upcoming season.

Porsche has been fun (even if I have used it almost exclusively in the dailies) but, I've got a bit of thing for fast Japanese cars, and V8's.

Wow so much drama in my MFG race, but I somehow still pulled off a good result, so here it is.

Qualified poorly, started 11th. I had a less than clean battle with wwe on the first stint where I accidentally gave him a .5s penalty and he later turned in on me when I took his inside through turn 4. That put me in 15th...sad face.

I had a much smarter and smoother 2nd stint, despite getting squeezed through turns 3 and 4 again for some deja vu. People really think they can leave the door that wide open without getting overtaken? SMH. And let’s not forget to battle to the death while carrying 9 seconds of penalties!

Somehow still, throughout all this chaos and battling, I made it back to finish P3! You definitely know there were some incidents if you can start in 11th, get booted to 15th, then still get a podium. RIP to the not-so-lucky ones!

Enjoy the race.

Wow, that was great! Very exciting. You had some amazing passing based on your much better exit speed ! And what happened to the guy that wiped out just before the end ! Congratulations !

The Scirocco has always been the best of the FF/front wheel drive based AWD cars for tire wear, but it’s still not great. It handles great through and is good at most tracks since it’s reasonably fast as well. On wheel I imagine it’d be competitive, but I can’t do anything with it on controller. It’s mostly the Beetle that is strong on tires by Gr.3 standards. Apparently, I never use it.

So how many withdrawals would it theoretically take for the top player in the 5th placed region to get a world tour invite by default?

Asking for a friend...
My understanding has been that for a top 12 Manu, if one of the three qualifying drivers cannot go for whatever reason, then the spot goes to the next top driver in the next region. The yellow highlighted driver on my sheet would be that driver and the red is 2nd alternate.
Goodbye MR cars was nice seeing you in the manufacturer series...

Ok a little sarcasm I'll do some tests on some of the tracks just to be sure but I still don't think that tyre wear multiplier is low enough.
One exception to MR grief - the Pug VGT. Yes, last lap was sketchy but it was otherwise ok. I didn't even have front bias and so I could've saved the rears even more.

I noticed that as well.

Easy call would be for me to ditch Pug but I was Top 12 NA with tragic Gr4 races. Now there's much less wear rate and harder compounds plus St Croix B and Monza. I would need to test the combos and see.

Can't forget La Sarthe either. The Pug VGT should be as strong as any car there.

And if I don't smash into the bus stop, it's strong at Dragon Trail as well. Again, it really comes down to how the RCZ fares compared to other cars at non-power tracks. If it doesn't reach that point where it falls off a cliff and dies anymore, Peugeot could be an Audi alternative.

Got the final Manu race uploaded. This could've been a win but no, my qualifying incompetence didn't allow it. How could I have been half a second off? At least some great battles were had, though.

So just did a test run with the new setting for manu…...and a no-stop is possible now for Pug Gr.4, not sure if it's faster than 1 stop yet, but the simple fact that I was able to do 9 laps all out and still have tires left is exciting!!! Now they just need to go back to one try only for FIA and I'll be all in again.

#TurboBricks4Life

I made it to 42nd with Nissan in the pre-season with two sub-900 results, so I'm aiming for top 20 this time.

Are you saying I can finally switch manufacturer contract??? After being stuck with AM.

When will manufacturer championship return for me to choose better this time?

I was mostly being facetious, but I am not entirely sure what will happen if there are multiple withdrawals, as unlikely as that is.

It sounds like the 5th placed region will be excluded from selection completely regardless of the number of withdrawals.

The official wording is:

If there are players who forfeit their participation, the next player will be selected following this order of priority:

a) the top player from the Region with the next highest Manufacturer Ranking Points;
b) the player who held the next highest-score from the same Region as the player who forfeited their participation.

In any case, best of luck to those who have qualified. :gtpflag:

For those not believing this:

Full stint at Interlagos with the RCZ. Compare with the Jag.

20190602_171851.jpg

Now, the RCZ does drop off in lap time but maybe a second at most at the very end of the stint. I could see others running the same time all race or even be a bit faster as fuel goes down. However, I do believe that even in a bad car for a combo, holding a position is more feasible.

So yes, you can pick Peugeot and actually score points with the RCZ.

Seriously though, you are 5th in line for Alfa, making you second backup. You only need 2 withdrawals and you are in. Yes, it's highly unlikely but that's exactly where you sit. Lamb, Jara and gilles_honda have the guaranteed spots, JOSETE is the first backup and you are the 2nd backup. As for further backups it will depend on the regions where the withdrawals came from but we don't really need to go into that for now.
I only need 1 withdrawal from Aston but that's also unlikely.

The recon process starts again for me :(, probably will stick with Aston but if there are enough movements from top players in other regions I could see myself jumping ship.

Okay that makes sense - Thanks to you and @OutlawQuadrnt for clarifying this.

At this point I am probably going to stick with Alfa but I will also monitor this.

Had a decent MFG qualifying session yesterday and an okay race (got fastest lap). Final lap I made a nice pass up the outside of turn 1 but the driver didn't like it much and it led to a 3 car accident turn 4. I kept it on the track and came home 5th.
Lucky I called it quits there, serious drama in the 2nd and 3rd time slots in top 2 splits.

1746pts

55 Overall in NA and 3rd for Nissan. See you all next season :) I intend to keep getting faster. Time to start hitting those 2k scores.
