It was the same for me, did that with several carsThat thumbnail makes me want to RRT4 livery my whole garage.
Can confirm, its not going to be pretty after fighting with it last season.Wow, I was thinking about choosing a less popular manufacturer for the official season - search no more. The 105 points won yesterday at Spa placed me on 33th place for Ferrari and there is not a big difference to reach top25.
I would assume that at least some good Italians will chose it, but probably that Gr.3 car is too much of a headache to control. I am also curious how it's gonna be in the Gr.3 races - I expect to get murdered...
Can confirm, its not going to be pretty after fighting with it last season.
I had to go 4M-4M-4M at Suzuka when the popular strategies were 6M-6M or 4S-4S-4S because it just became too hard to drive once the tyres were even half worn.
Dragon Trail took 4 attempts to get one without binning it.
Catalunya was an immediate write-off because I started on the last bend and it immediately spun out and sent me into the pit lane when auto drive ended.
I didn't bother with Laguna Seca out of frustration.
Blue Moon Speedway was the only enjoyable race I had with it. Everything else was just stress.
Only advice I can give is set the brake balance all the way to the front and be ready to do a lot of throttle control to try to stop the back end from sliding. It absolutely shreds the rear tyres.
1st race tonight I managed to get 5th in qualifying after finding a good driver to follow for the whole lap. Unfortunately the race didn't go as well, as when I tried to let a guy past at the end of the Kemmel straight, the guy behind him decided to go for it as well, knocking me off the track and causing himself to spin. I got a 4 second penalty and then just slowly drifted back through the field as my tyres melted.
2nd go, didn't quite get as good a qualifier so started 8th, but this time my path of non-interference worked. I just spent the whole race letting faster cars through and trying to stay out of trouble, which ended putting me in 6th on the last lap - desperately trying to hold onto the guys ahead with my used up mediums (5M pit 6M). The 2 guys ahead started to fight, which dropped us all back into the clutches of the guy behind and we basically had 4 cars going for the corner on the last chicane.
Amazingly I managed to come out relatively unscathed, and because of the weird penalty system randomly giving out penalties (If anyone can work out why he got a 4 second penalty then I will be impressed), I ended up 4th with 259 points
Yeah he got a 2 second penalty for the destruction of of the Lexus, but if you watch the video carefully he got a 4 second penalty for the slightest touch of my rear before getting to the corner. He didn't overtake me and I didn't run off the track or touch anybody else, so I have no idea why he got that penalty.@Lost Sheltie Are you really asking why he got a penalty??? lol He destroyed him on the last corner lol
Well done on your race!
Very different cars there... The BMW weights a lot more than the Renault, so it tends to kill the tyres faster and even without tyre wear its a lot more tail happy. I think you probably need to get used to the car. In my opinion, the hard part of being fast in the beemer is exiting the corners with good traction, the engine is pretty good but some times is hard to put the power to the ground without getting a slideSo I started my first FIA Manufacturer championship. I am B/S rated driver (15-16k points) and usually fare pretty good in the races managing a top 7 finish most of the time. After the Sydney event I picked BMW since I like the brand and I've seen it was competitive having won the race. To my huge disappointed I found out how slow am I with the M4 Gr.4. At Spa my fasted free practice time was 2.30.5 after a lot of laps. Just to compare I tried a lap in the Megane Trophy and on my first lap I managed a 2.26.5 without any special care.
Now, I'm sure I can improve my driving style to better fit the Beamer, but 4 seconds seem way too much to find. Did I just pick the wrong manufacturer?
Up to there it was all pretty normal, but I crossed the line and instead of having my time plus the penalty my status was "running" So I was left with no time. Have that ever happened to you before? Is it a new bug or something?
Did I just pick the wrong manufacturer?
Thanks! I was not aware of thatIf you pick up a penalty in Qualifying it invalidates the lap you're on. That's not a bug, that's how its supposed to work.
Like said in other reply, it is all about getting used to the car to maximize its strengths and get the most out of it.
My practice time in the M4 was 1:26.9 with TCS set to 0 and BB -4, and I’ve seen drivers in the low 24s. So the car is very capable but just like any other car, but it might require some extra practice time to fully get the results you expect.
This season I'm back in the McLaren. Thanks to @OutlawQuadrnt and @Gyrza360 for the coaching on how to drive it !
I practiced a lot for this race but did not have super high expectations. Ended up in a lobbly with #5 on the door, and with a not so stellar qualifying time, I managed to get the second spot on the starting grid. We both started on Softs and the #3 and #4 was on Medium.
It was a great race with clean racing and I witnessed a great scrap in front of me that I have in the race edit.
This is GT Sport at its best. Enjoy it ! "McLaren is Back !"
I followed your advice with BB and got under 2.29 after some practice. My issue is why can I easily get a 2.26 time on the Megane effortlessly? Here is a video with the two laps compared. I know there are mistakes at some points (missing apex or going wide at some turns) but even so they are on both runs so should cancel themselves. Any suggestions to match the M4 to the Megane time are welcome.
The first race of the evening didn’t go so well in the big boy room. Everyone got bunched up in qualifying and shot themselves in the foot, including myself. Started P19 on Mediums and pitted on lap 6 for softs, finished P15 after 3 people quit.
Race 2 went much better. This time I made sure that I was nowhere near another car in Q, ran a 27.7 and ended up starting P6. I went with the same strategy in this race with one exception, I was trying to be easier on the tires, I absolutely killed both sets in the first race by trying to push too hard. It definitely helped, I had enough tire left at the end to push a bit on the last lap to pass another Jag driver who was clearly struggling with his tires by that point. I’m gonna take my points and run.

I watched your qualifying for the first race - that chaos is the exact reason I ignore trying to get a tow in the Jag and just look for an empty piece of asphalt! I think it's too risky with these one-shot qualifying sessions, especially if you're in one of the quicker cars around the lap. I think the chance of getting held up somewhere is much higher than the chance of gaining a few tenths.
Just give me a piece of track to myself!!
