Did Nations three times. Second attempt was the most... interesting because the car decided it was going to fishtail during qualifying and I started at the rear. PB for most positions gained in a top split race, maybe?

Top 16 qualifying, I gambled and ran laps straightaway. I barely missed out on pole of all things but for some reason, I was worse with dirty air than everyone else so P3 was the best I could do. Also, my medium pace was flat out awful although my tire wear was far away the best in the field. Finally, screw that last corner. Absolutely nothing I tried helped get find anything resembling consistency.

Oh gosh. The RH are bad. Did 6RH/4RM+fuel/3RM/4RS.
A Genesis and the RSR behind me, finished ahead. I'm good. Would have been better in an Atenza.

I got a long delay in matchmaking too. It was almost 4 minutes until the player list screen came up. I was so sure I got disconnected. Weird.

Very long and mentally draining race, especially if you're in an MR car. The rear just gets so sketchy at the end of stints. My tip is drive at 95% and focus on consistency. There's no point trying to go all out and burn your tyres early and then spinning out. Most people either did 5S/5S/5S/2H or 5S/5S/6S/1H, depending on whether your car is survivable on 6 lap old tyres. My McLaren can't, so I pretty much just stayed behind a Ford GT who were on the same strategy all race. A Subaru tried an adventurous 7M/7M/3H but went backwards.

My end season report - McLaren is a very interesting manufacturer to drive for. It's my joint favourite with Citroen so far. The Gr.3 and Gr.4 cars have polar opposite characters, it's amazing to think they're based on the same car. The Gr.3 is good at sweeping corners, has decent top speed and fuel consumption, but struggles with stop-start corners and rear tyre wear. The Gr.4 has immense traction at low speed but the front tends to get light/understeer at high speed, has good tyre saving but very poor on fuel (even accounting for the fact that the optimum shift point is 1/4 rev bar). Unless you're adaptable, I think most people will struggle with one car or the other but it's definitely capable of mixing it up near the front if the track combo is right. I won twice (Suzuka & DTG) and my last FIA victory before this was last year so I'm happy :D

I've also focused on making my practice more efficient. Last year I would do 3 full race sims for each race, but it got to a point where it became such a chore, no fun at all and I was getting bored with the combo before the race actually started. Now I limit myself to 30 mins before the race. Whatever testing I got done, that's it. Usually I just drive the softest compound to find the tipping point, then one lap on each harder compound to find the delta, then a fuel saving lap and a pit timing lap. Usually I just managed to enter the race with 2-3 mins to spare, and while waiting for the countdown I calculate the rough strategy. It's fun going in partially blind, and with nothing to lose you do a lot of thinking on the fly whereas last year I would be so stubborn in sticking to a predetermined strategy, sometimes I miss obvious opportunities. Sometimes it doesn't work, but when it does it's such a rush :D Looking at the odometers of all the cars in my race, I had around 600 km while everyone else had 1000 km at least

Gonna enjoy the full week break, and here's hoping next season will have even more interesting combos (also GR Supra Cup starting next week!) 👍

A few highlights from the race including the last few laps

It was great racing with you. You had great pace in that one, particularly after the unfortunate start you had. I wasn't super comfortable with the combo but got lucky with a qualifying slipstream to start 9th. Went with 10S/5M/1H/9S, that I kinda made up as I went through the race. Was very happy to finish immediately behind you :) It didn't improve my points but enjoyed the race a whole lot more than I was expecting.

Raced every single slot tonight including the top 16. Saw a lot of familiar faces. @Pigems what happened in that last race?

Anyways great season

Great racing last night man, excellent season as well!

That last race was heartbreaking  , after doing all 4 previous slots and messing up in every single one of them in some way or another, I had finally put in a solid Q lap in slot 5 to start P3. Race started great, P4 had an early slide and fell out of the draft, all I had to do was stay calm and hang onto your guys draft, but instead, I proceeded to bin it twice for no reason at all and fell back to last place. Then I crashed again and rage quit.

Thanks, I really liked the combo, I like Sardegna and as it turns out I like the Red Bull Jr (that was my first race in it), you can be super aggressive (the old Senna throttle technique out the corners works pretty damn well) but I wasn't quite 'on it' for the race, despite being on it in the pre-race lobbies ten minutes beforehand! I did think we were going to have a last lap battle but the train ahead of me cleared just in time from my perspective, if you'd have been half a second closer to get a decent tow or I'd have had to fight with someone it would have been very close! We could be talking about a last lap tangle!!:D

But yeah, solid results all round really, nicely in the top ten in a pretty strong field and it wiped off one of my lower scores - though if I wasn't doing stupid fancy dress quizzes on Saturday nights during this quarantine period I would have definitely gone again

Also don't think this person is on here but shout out to Happee Meal for that NHS livery he/she sported, amongst all the superb different styles we see on track that are made by some super talented (and patient) people, that one won the day by a mile

@HappyMeal I think is their GTP name

I’m in the same boat. I enjoy the driving more than finding the strategy so I check on here to see what the suggestions are, I use practice mode for maybe 25-30 minutes the day before if I don’t know the track combo, learning the safe lines and penalty areas, then I spent at most 30 minutes before the race getting comfortable with the required and optional tires with tire wear on. I rarely bother with fuel saving as it doesn’t seem to be a make it or break it strategy at my competition level.

For this week, Barcelona is new to me. I got down to 1:44 in practice mode and i know where to find another 1/2 second, but the top-10 1:41 laps baffle me. Turning off TCS was good for 3/4 second and the only risky turn without it is exiting the sharpest hairpin. I haven’t tried turning off ABS and I may not bother. Sometimes it’s good for a hot lap but if i need to react quick in the race I don’t want to slide into someone. Before the race tonight, i’ll spend some time checking RS tire wear and run a few laps on the hards to learn the braking points. I won’t make the early races so I only have two shots to get points.

@Pigems , sorry for the tap on lap 1 of the Top 16 race last night. I don’t think you knew I made my way next to you, I backed off immediately so neither of us died. :nervous:

Being 75th in the region I didn’t expect to make Top 16, but tried anyway, got in; I was shocked! Qualifying didn’t go well, I had a good lap (mid - low 17) going, but got held up big time on the second half of the track which landed me 10th on the grid. @vvise and I gambled by starting on hards and it seemed to work out. If I would have qualified better and didn’t make a few mid-race errors the result would have been better than 7th, but I’ll take gaining 3 positions.

I’m excited about next season, especially with the ‘adjustments’ we have coming our way.

No worries at all man, I tried to flash the 4 ways to say thank you at the time, but I wasn’t sure if you had seen it or not. It was pretty cool getting into the T16 race, and it turned out to be my best race of the night. Great racing last night, and this season man!

Also, after re watching the very short replay of the last race of the night, I realized that I absolutely killed @Judoka by accident, I had no idea at the time. I was trying to move over because I thought I had room to get in front of him and it caused him to clip the wall and stop dead. I’m not sure if he’s on here or not, but if not, could you let him know that I’m sorry for ruining his race, it wasn’t intentional at all. :(

the most balanced real cars (FR) now have the worst tyre wear, thanks to MR and FF moaners
go go go

I don’t think he gets on here often, but will let him know. I’m sure he’s not concerned, we all know you’re a super clean driver. Also, it’s certainly been fun racing with you, great driving this season!

Cheers!

that's a really tough spot to navigate. I've seen plenty of people (including myself) smack that wall even when driving all alone just because it looks like you'll have clearance....then, nope! I'm sure he knows it wasn't on purpose.

Edit - 6 RM - 9 RS - refuel + 1 RH - 9 RS
This was essentially the strategy I used, especially for the North American races. In hindsight, I should possibly have gone for just a two-stopper, for the final race there in particular.

Nations, EMEA

Slot 2:

Highlights (4 minutes):

Check out 1:18 in the video. I received a 3s penalty for overtaking under yellow, yet the two cars I passed were ghosted!!!:banghead:
Only managed to qualify P18 of 18. Started on H tyres and hung back at the first turn to se what would unfold.. I'd made up 5 spots by the time I reached Divebomber's Heaven at the 90 degree right-hander near the end of the lap, and promptly lost 2 of them there. Before clearing my unwarranted penalty, I was hit by the same Spaniard who'd hit me on the qually outlap and then spun out by a dumb lunge by a Swiss driver! All that dropped me to P17. And on the same lap (Lap 3) the Swis did it again at Divebomber's Heaven, spinning me into the gravel. In the end, I finished P18, lapped by the first 10 cars.

Slot 3:

Highlights (8 Minutes):

P16 became P10, which became P16 at Divebomber's Heaven when I was again spun out by contact:rolleyes:. Another ridiclous penalty of 1s came when a German divebombed at the same spot and hit me, yet I got the penalty whilst he took my position. Finished P9

Slot 5:

Highlights (10 minutes):

My P6 start resulted with me in the first turn gravel, P17 with rear-end damage!🤬 Made up 3 places and lost one again at DH, unsurprisingly. Later in the race, I was knocked into a spin by a serial offender and then completely taken out by a German angling me into a wall!!! After all that, I could manage was P12.

Started 11th, finished 12th. Was only beaten by Porsches, Supras, a WRX and an F-Type. I went 5/4/4/4 on hards and softs, I would probably have been better off one stopping on hards but I got bored practicing earlier and didn't try everything out.

I might have been able to sneak top ten, but on lap 9 I got shuffled wide just before the right hander at the stupid fiddly part of the back of the circuit.

More tracks that suit the Nissans in the next round of ten races, please.

N America

Slot 2:

Highlights (6 minutes):

Qualified P19 after the ruined start to my hot lap, began Lap 2 in P9. Down in P14 on Lap 17, but still on schedule, I spun out after going wide, losing time doing a 360. Managed to finish P10, ahead of the two cars whch had bump drafted (or simply bumped!) me. Tyre strategy of 6M, 9S (+ fuel, which was a mistake on my part), 1H, 9S.

Slot 3:

Qually - Sheer plonkerism when I stay tight to the apex & ease off to allow the following car to pass as it naturally moves to the outside on exit. Except he stays on my tail and runs into me, spoiling my tyres and speed-up for my only hot lap!

Highlights (10 minutes):

Great result, but what might have been had the idiots not done their usual at the beginning!

Qualified P6, punted to P20 at Turn 1 of course! Tyre strategy of 6M, 9S, 1H (+ fuel), 9S saw me finish P3. Highly likely I would have finished at least P2 if not for the idiots at the start!

Great race in the end. Qualified poorly in 14th so decided to throw on the Hards to start with. Was up into 10th by the time people started making pit stops around lap 5. Came in for Softs on lap 7 and had just about enough fuel to take me another 5 laps. Stopped lap 12 for Softs and fuel and then picked off a couple more cars who were running Hards for their final stint. Good clean racing and nice way to finish driving for Lexus 👍

Is anyone having trouble registering as a "Star Player"? I registered at the end of the last preseason, then somehow lost it in the middle of this one despite not dropping below DR A, and now it's telling me I don't meet the criteria to register for it in spite of being well inside the Top 140 players for North America in the Nations Cup.

Decent enough result in the end considering. Threw away a fast flying lap on the last corner in qualifying which would have put me 2nd so started 14th instead.

Starting on Hards, 1st lap, blew it missing my braking point and flew off into the gravel. 2nd lap did exactly the same on the same damn corner!! Was dead last. :banghead:

Wasn’t until I got in on lap 7 to put on Softs that I really started to fly through the positions. Corvette feels good on that track on Softs. Rapidly gaining on the cars in front on the last lap. If I hadn’t have binned it twice, I would have got a top 5 position :( 8th it was!

Oh well, not going to try again so I think that’s the end of my relationship with Corvette (unless the update works in its favour :))

I went 2H, 5S, 5S, 5S, taking on 5% fuel at the first two stops so I only needed a shorter final stop. Qualified 11th, finished 4th (came out of the pits for the last time in 7th) in an all A/S (two S/S) lobby. Which I'll take for 137pt and 952 DR.

If I remember correctly, splitting the fuel up between multiple stops takes longer because the game has to display the engage/disengage animation for the fuel twice.

Looking forward to the combos for the next, what, 80 races?
Plenty of forward, reverse, wet, dry, morning, afternoon and night time circuits to choose from.

335 cars available. Would be nice to see PD use some regulations from Daily Races e.g., GR.4 FF, JDM only, N class road car REAL One Make(the Daily Race Mk1 GTI at Nurb GP was good). Even some classic car combos.

I was in a B/S lobby and my plan was 5S/5S/1H/6S taking on no fuel until the last stop. Qualified second and myself and the pole sitter got away nicely and both pitted together, I think he must have put fuel it because I got out in front, all was going to plan except when I came in for the hards with 2.5 laps of fuel left I had a brain fart...selected softs and no fuel  Had no option but do 2 quick laps on the softs and switch to hard for the last 4.
Luckily it worked out and I won by 7 sec

Now that was hard work!

No.1 on the door, so of course ended up blowing my qualifying lap and starting 18th out of 18

Started on Hards to get them out the way and decided to keep them on as I was making good progress through the field. Pitted lap 7 for Softs and then just went for it, picking off the people who’d opted for Softs first. Feels like I did 30 laps after that!!
