Suzuka will be another nice outing for the GT-R.
It's a power circuit with three medium to long straights, and lots of 100mph+ corners where the Nissan is really stable.

True but I expected it to suffer more through the first sector, but found it surprisingly agile. The rear can get quite lively, but keep it in check and it really flies.

I was pleasantly surprised.

I was just gonna go with the WRX, but with this revelation I might have to give the GT-R a go, and also test the Mustang and Corvette. That last one probably won't be that quick, but it's very much a "jack of all trades, master of none" so it might suit a track with a mix of features like Suzuka.

Edit: Maybe not the Mustang, since this race will probably be right on the limit of of being able to go the distance without refueling.

I was in that race with you. A lot of us made some really silly mistakes, but that was one of the worst. I managed to get 2nd running hards all the way. Almost everyone else was on meds....I mean mediums!

Manufacturers Race 6 - Circuit de la Sarthe

I was not sure that I wanted to do this race as I have spent very little time on this track before the testing I did for the race.
I decided to give it a try. The first race was a total disaster as I spun on the first chicane as I started in the back... 🤬
So this race, it was time for redemption. Qualifying was good and I started 5th! Way above my expectations in the room with A/S and one A+
As you see in the video, I get a very strange 3 sec penalty. I can not understand that one as I was ahead of the guy and he touched my left rear quarter panel. (at 1:32 in the video)
The race was a learning opportunity as I did too many mistakes but included a lot of racing.....

Here is the penalty:

I assume that was me, you were referring to... I recognized your ID from the races. You had a nice qualifying lap too. Looks like the Jags were not a bad car for the Lemans track.

Yeah, my intention was just collect positive DR points and live with whatever FIA points I got from one race at Sarthe, but it was such a disaster I had to re-run it. The dummy in front of me at the start (we were queued before the chicanes of course) was driving erratically, and when I tried to avoid him, the impatient and rude **** behind me ran me over. It's so deflating knowing that your whole race is lost before you even see the starting line.

I did enjoy a nice aero train in the second race, and was able to use it as a ladder to go from last to finish 10th, after pitting for the tires after one lap. It's really pretty fun, and when people race with respect, a genuine blast.

See you out there again, I'm sure.

For me, FIA didn't go well. 1st race, I plebbed everything and lost a lot of dr. In the 2nd race, I missed the draft train and because of it. I started in the middle of the grid. Fortunately, I gained some of my dr back in the 2nd race.

Manufacturers went quite well last night. First entry was so bad, I don't even remember the exact positions where I qualified and finished, but I know that I lost positions. But the second entry was much better - a clean Q6/P6. I was in 5th for a bit, but I couldn't keep up the pace with the GT-R in back of me. I am apparently now the 11th-best Hyundai driver, and for the Nations Cup, I'm the 7th-best driver in my state. Not bad, considering there are over 50 drivers for each category.

On another note, what Gr.3 cars do you think will be ideal for Suzuka? I'm thinking something derived from a 4WD model, like the WRX or Lancer.
Be daring... Try the Citroen. ;)

Absolute worst case and a new low at Circuit de la Sarthe in the Manufacturers race. Went in with no expectations, left with even less.

Punted BEFORE the starting line, in the last chicane. Boxed in by a moron in a Mazda, then run over by an idiot who can't see past his hood apparently, and to make matters worse, rather than be a gentleman and let me maintain my spot, crowded me off the apex (from a behind starting position...) so that I was then in turn run over by another idiot who thought he could win the race before it started. To make matters worse (is it possible?) I was door #1, meaning the DR points loss was as bad as it could be. Total debacle and enough to make me quit playing for a while. I just don't understand why people are such ******* and if PD don't find a way to police some of this BS before making another game, count me out.

Had planned to just run a no-stopper and let anyone who spun off or was penalized fall behind me, take what I could get. Probably should have just switched it up and ducked in after the first lap for M's, and try to outrun some of the rear end, but I thought it would be more likely that I could play the draft chain game and make up more spots that way. Didn't work out.

Added rear view:

See you out there again, I'm sure.

Yes I was referring to you. I forgot to insert the quotes. One of the biggest things I think people forget is to put on traction control if you are going to be stating in a chicane. They think it will slow them down too much, but in all actuality it helps them get through the corner easier and of course stay on the track.

I've had my issues with "impatient" drivers also. Somehow they just can't seem to find that trusty brake pedal. You spend all that time prepping for a race only to have one yahoo take you out completely.

I'm sure we'll see each other again. Until then........:gtpflag:

That was by far my worst race of the night in the Aston Martin. The Porsche had a penalty down Mulsannes, I got alongside to pass, but he decided to fight the position into the 2nd chicane and completely lost us touch with the draft. Had to spend the rest of the race by myself just watching everyone else run away.

The Lexus performed well around Circuit De Le Sarthe last night.
Qualified 8th in all 4 races I entered, wierd coincidence, ha.
Could have qualified higher, but no matter how late I left the pits, some would get in the way, to be fair they did try to get out the way & it was down to me messing up my lines.
Best conversion was 6th, would have been 5th but the daughter decided to try & have a conversation with me at the exact moment I was hitting the final chicane on the last lap, 0.5 sec penalty, could have been worse
Should have left it there, but no, one more shot left me with less championship points :banghead:
However my DR rose by 1k + in manufacturers.
Never happened before & top Lexus in every race, obviously because I was the only one, but I'll take that accolade

After a long period away I got back to GT Sport. Chose my manufacturer as I always do: randomly (sort of). Ended up with Subaru, as I had almost not used them, the Gr3 even less. Didn't know La Sarthe was on the menu, as I love the track and love racing there. I intended to do all 5 races, but got only 2 complete.

First race was good and bad. Qualified with no draft and ended up on 6th. But forgot to change to hard tyres RIP. Had a good race nonetheless, ended up 8th.

Second race was a lower split lobby, and things were not good as I got DC'd.

Missed 3rd race by a few minutes as I had dinner.

4th race was promising, but got DC'd again.

5th race was, fortunately, a good one. Split was probably the same level as the 1st race, so plenty of good and fast drivers. The Subaru being one of the slowest Gr3 cars on a straight was not encouraging, but I was not worried about finishing high up, just wanted to enjoy the track. Qualifying went pretty well. Managed to keep within draft distance from faster cars and managed to secure a 6th. Then something weird happened and I feared for the worst, as the intro screen lasted way longer than it should. The guy in 3rd, a very fast one too, either left or DC'd, so I jumped up to 5th. Plan for the race was to keep within draft distance, make no mistakes and get no penalties. The top 2 bolted away and I had a small group that I managed to follow along. I was slightly faster on the twisty bits and much slower on the straights, so the only chance to get positions was for them to make huge mistakes or get long penalties. The race was mostly uneventful, but pretty fun to do. The guys in front were from the same team so they worked together and I ended up losing touch with the Mercedes. Finished on 4th, which was my best result and I was pretty happy with it.

Not one to derail the thread slightly, but still on topic.

In the Nations Cup we obviously race country vs country, seeing various places around Europe (in my case) the one nation I haven’t noticed at all is Estonia!

I spend a lot of time there throughout the year, would be nice to see if there’s any representation!

My Nations race open Tuesday was not much to write home about. I was not going to do it as I am concentrating on the Manufacturers series but I decided to use the Trophy and whip it around. There was a Supra that I had lightly tapped twice that I thought revenge pit maneuvered me heading to the Schumacher S dropping me down the order.

Well I eventually caught up with him as he came out the pit and shadow realmed him at T1. After the race he said he was trying to get off of the curb from T7 and didn't mean to crash me.....only after I called him out for it and told him why I punted him.

Anyway, thanks to that, I put myself into B/A from B/S....The race was so forgettable that forgot to take screen shots.

So LeMans....One of my favorite tracks! I was anticipating this race since I saw it on the schedule. I had practiced on mediums and know I could stretch them for 6 laps. After reading about races yesterday, I figured I would run hards all race since I knew I could make it on fuel.
Due to me dropping to B/A, my race has 2 A/A, 6 B/A, and 11 D/S.

I enter with 8 on the door of my MB AMG GT3. I get out to qualify and lightly tap the left rear corner of a Viper on the first Hunaudieres chicane and he got a 2 second penalty. That was not fair so I slowed and stayed with him while he served it at the Arnage penalty zone.
I ended up qualifying 4th behind another AMG GT3 in first, Nissan GTR in second, and the Dodge Viper that I tapped in third.

We get off good and already have a small gap as we head down the beginning of Hunaudieres. The Viper get s a good draft on the GTR and goes around the right side. He looks like he tries to cut back over in front once he passed but gently bumps the GTR. As the Viper takes the position, we come up on the chicane. The GTR punted him hard into the barrier as we slowed to take the chicane.

The GTR then loses it on the second chicane and its just me trying to chase down the AMG. I couldn't catch him. I thought he was really fast and concluded that he must be on mediums. It was a lonely drive for those first four laps.

Eventually, the Viper comes roaring back. I keep checking the gap and he is steadily closing it and finally catches me on lap 5. He gave me a few bump draft taps but I eventually let him go because he was much faster than me and was just slowing himself down trying to get us to catch the other AMG. He builds a 7-8 second gap on me and then pits on end of lap 6.

I pass him while he is in the pits and create at 3.5 second gap. I know he is fast and hoped that his cold tires would hold him back for a little.
I finally cross the line in P2 ahead of the Viper by just under 1 second for 60 points. I am more happy that I was the only one without a red dot!

On to the next one!

Looks like the next Nations race will be the Nissan GT-R cup, and me and the 'Vette are gonna get decimated in Manufacturer's. I'm probably a good 0.5s off of what I should be running in order to be competitive at that track.

Had a little time to drive the GT-R tonight for the free practice sessions and man, I didn't realize just how easy it is to drive the 911 in comparison. From when I tried to set a time for the Daily Races a week or so back at Maggiore the Supra was also really peaky on throttle, moreso than I remembered, so I wonder if that's courtesy of the update... I thought I knew Suzuka well, but seeing and trying to follow the aliens' replays are insane, I'm still 2 seconds off their pace. I'm hoping with some more practice I can reduce it by another 0.5 sec or so but this is gonna be interesting, assuming I can catch the final slot on Saturday.

Unfortunately Estonia isn't an eligible country. No idea why.

There's probably some random law or regulation that makes it ineligible for some reason. Like out of all the 50 states in the US, for some reason Arizona (yay) is the only one ineligible, and I think it has something to do with a state gambling/competition law, but I never really looked too far into it.

Wondering if a 3 stop will be faster for the manufacturers race. Would going for double soft tyres outway the extra stop here? On another note the lambo actually feels alright here as the over rotation of the car really helps at this circuit, just need to be careful at the banked turn at the start of sector 2 and the last turn.

The 3-stopper was the way to go at the Nations race here last season, but those were completely different cars.

Thanks for the feedback, probably going to be sticking with the 2 stop and try and be clever with fuel and when I use what tyre compound.

Saving fuel is always crucial in races that require fuel to be taken on at a stop, the more you can save without losing time on the track, the more you can gain in the pits. In my last 2 races, I’ve gained 1.8s and 2.6s in the pits on the car ahead of me in each race, got a win and a 2nd instead of a 2nd and 3rd in those races because of it. :)
