What Madrid Layout to use for Round #1

To be honest, that Madrid race was one of the most realistic IndyCar road course races i've ever seen run

You obviously don't know much about racing etiquette or Indycar from sound of it then.
Did you watch Baltimore last year? After every caution there was a first corner pile up of some kind.

If there's space for two cars, then i'm fine with somebody making a move there. You just need to be ready to pull out and go for the cutback, since any overtake into a chicane will severely hamper your exit speed.

A cutback at that chicane? Space for two cars? You trolling or something?

BTW after the 2nd pile up I went from 7th to 2nd after threading it 3 wide through crashed cars.
Yes sure on your own but at the start where all the cars are together that isn't going to work very well. Besides cutback would only work when your behind the whole time.

It is possible to overtake, but with care and in a bunched pack of cars it isn't going to happen.

Yes. Reason why it was dropped, terrible track design.

Not sure.

Well I managed it without any contact... I don't see why it can't happen.

Of course it isn't. Hence we stay fairly single file until an obvious opportunity shows itself. Back section should be a good spot, as well as the roundabout, since it's fairly easy to run wide through there.

I was being hopeful wasn't I... nevermind
Indy showed that we can give each other some room (using *can* very lightly there).

I'm not worried about incidents at all really. We all know it's not touring cars, nobody seemed to be driving like a nutjob on Sunday, so i'm confident in clean racing.

I'll leave this.

Here I am 7:18 trying to pass the Toyota, I get a better exit and get alongside. However if you are being passed you are even tighter than the driver ahead because you are leaving room for the other driver.

So what I'm saying is the cutback is impossible if you going side by side through that corner, especially when you're being passed and when the other driver is completely ahead.

I never actually said cutback whilst side by side... that's just an accident waiting to happen. A cutback will work if somebody outbrakes you, and they run wide, which is really easy to do on several places round Madrid.

They can just block you though, it isn't as simple as that.

If they mess it up badly, and you keep up your momentum, you could fish around a bit on the exit and at least get side by side going into the roundabout section.

So basically if you are side by side going into the chicane it's either yield the position or crash and potentially wreck the race of everyone else behind you.

In any case any sort of "dive-bombish" move is never going to work here and the few passing places that there are you need the fellow driver to be alert and compliant.

Anyway we're all experienced drivers and we should have good enough race craft not to do a dive bomb up the inside of Turn 1.

Pretty much. The only way I can see of overtaking there, is if you get a good run on the straight and get so far alongside that they have to yield otherwise they will hit the wall.

I won't be trying any overtakes there unless i'm at least 3/4 of the way alongside - then corner is mine technically.

Basically the good old "No, you're not coming through".

The very first corner of that race we did had people darting about after the chicane trying to find a place. I braked early, yielded, and took a really tight line through the chicane, because people were getting interested by the divebombing opportunities. I actually made it out unscathed, but I know if i'd gone in hot with everyone else, it would've ruined several races.

But just after, I kept it held up to the barrier, then somebody moved over just in front of me as they put the power on, and that's what triggered the first caution.

Just being alert and not going mega aggressive will prevent a ton of accidents.

I was fine when I got through but got collected by the spinning Joe.

I was so thrilled at getting through smoothly, then just as I relaxed I saw smoke and spinning in front of me

When will we be able to have another test night? Sunday was a blast :D

It was only Monday afternoon when I calmed down from the whole thing! Never experienced anything quite like it... @Furinkazen, you have a winning formula on your hands.

I know there are loads of FGT series floating around, but this just has the rules nailed to a tee. Proper racing.

It's been around for some time actually.
This is technically season 4, but most drivers are new to the series. I think there's only 2 or 3 of us from the original series competing in this one.

Wait, actual seasons? That was kept fairly quiet.
