This magnificent post from @redhed17 perfectly sums how I feel about this.

I have to say, as a PS4 player and a long time Playstation fan it's quite revolting to witness this kind of disregard from PD / Sony.

I mean, 2 years ago when I bought this game, my money seemed to be worth just as much as all the other players who had a PS5 at home... but now, apparently my money is completely worthless to PD or Sony, unless if I use that money to buy a PS5, then all of a sudden my money is relevant to them all over again...

They completely ignore the fact that a vast majority of the GT7 player base is made of PS4 players, probably not as much by now, I know... but still I wouldn't be surprised if let's say half of the active players are still using their PS4 to play this game.
What a display of gratitude, PD!

And yes, I do understand that the PS4 is just not capable of running Sophy, it's just too much for it, I get it... but then tell me why can't they just release the DLC for PS4 and have the players race against the standard AI, why is that? This game started out as a cross-generation title, so I'd expect them to support both PS4 and PS5 versions all the way to the end which IMO is more than a reasonable expectation. Regardless of the differences between both consoles, both versions SHOULD be equally supported within the limitations of each platform, I just can't find a good-enough reason for them to leave the PS4 players behind other than good old greed and total lack of respect and consideration.

This is their master plan to persuade players into buying PS5s, huh?! Wow, I'm shocked!

Sure, many of us players have been waiting for endurance races for so long, some of us would even pay ANY PRICE just to get them, but let me tell you: anything above 30 euros is just straight up stealing IMO.
This is "just" a DLC, not a full game!

Honestly, I feel offended by this, even if I happen to have a PS5 (which I don't, and have absolutely no plans to buy one) I wouldn't pay any more than 30 euros. The DLC might have some good content, but let's not get greedy ok?

Geez... I only hope you guys don't end up feeling disappointed and all your expectations are met with this DLC, otherwise this forum will go up in flames lol...
the entitlement is strong here... 🤔

Surely not. They can't be charging 70% of the game's price for this. Regardless of what the content is, that is an extremely steep price by DLC standards.
I hope that's not the number when the price gets officially revealed...
The total price for all DLC might be high. There are 50 power pack DLC sections in the picture, possibly each costing a dollar. Players can buy the first one and work through the others. Completing them rewards players with a reward similar to finishing a cafe or weekly, allowing them to unlock access to purchase the next power up. This offers more engagement and flexibility for players who can’t or don’t want to pay the full amount upfront but still want to try the game. It also allows players to choose their path, like a championship, without purchasing all the necessary upgrades at once. For example, a WTC600 equivalent racing experience in the new spec III could cost $12 for 10 races, but players don’t need to purchase the WTC700 or WTC800 simultaneously, keeping $24 in their pocket until they’re ready to upgrade.

Not to be a jerk, but it is currently impossible to build these cars in game. It's not just the parts, it's new elements for GT Auto.View attachment 1491690
That Beetle has no windshield
It's mirrors are different
The chrome is flat black, and that change is currently not offered
The light bars? Will they be adding an offroad light bar option for all cars? (there's roof bars and hood bars)
Then there's all the offroad bars and skid plates.
And, although it's tough to see at this angle, those Bettle wheels look like stock wheels without the hubcaps (I'm a VW nerd)

Don't get me wrong, it would be SUPER cool if they added all of these features to GT Auto, but that seems like a REALLY important addition that hasn't been mentioned.

The Spec III announcements have still two cars TBD. Filling out the list with an offroad Beetle and an Off Road 911/930 would be weird. It makes more sense that it's two fan classics, or the Xioami cars

So, those are new cars without question. It would make far more sense that these are part of the DLC to be used with some additional off-road events.
I'm more intrigued about those two cars, than anything else in the Power Pack DLC. I want to know more.

So we're keeping content free and having people pay for feature updates??? I have no issues with paid content, but this is beyond baffling, just random features behind a paywall. Seems like this should be what Spec III is, and Spec III should be the power pack.

Just putting Sophy behind a paywall alone seems like a weird move. If 3.0 is paid for, what does that mean for all versions after?

I have a ps4, so it's not like I can get the update either way, and I'm fine with that. It seems weird that these are the types of things not coming to the ps4 version.

The quirkiness of PD is lost on me. Just make regular DLCs like every other game.

GT Sport is more like a GT Prologue and not a full-fledged GT.

All full-fledged GT games so far have had endurance races, and GT4 and 5 had the B-Spec mode.

AND all of this was included in the purchase price!!
AND if you wanted all that included, you would have had to wait until Dec 4th for GT7 to come out, probably at a higher price.
would you be happy with that?

I haven't been following the conversation carefully - but what is the consensus (if any) on racing modification? The Beetle & 911 and some of the thumbnails in the Power Pack interface seem to make it plausible. This is the singular feature I miss the most in GT7 vs the older games

There's way too many pages to get through in this thread but @Jordan 's post about B spec back on page 10 really got my attention. I might have to reinstall the game again if that's true.

As long as the price is right, anyway. The included 5 million credits has got me concerned, considering the price they sell credits for in game but if it's £20 or less, I'll probably grab it.

And Y’know, that’s a perfectly valid thing to want. The issue here is that they weren’t adding much other than that - it was pretty much all repetitive rehashing of starter race formatting. On rare occasions you’d get a more specific themed race or stingy requirements, but it was the exception. Compared to GT Sport, it was almost every update where an event was added tailored to one (or some) of the new additions, a new card with new combos, and then some extensions to existing starter/medium event cards with some newer tracks. Sport has less tools to play with as far as event curation, 7 having added limiters like min/max installed part counts, genre of car, size, weight, power, list goes on - but almost only uses PP, country, and drivetrain limits with the other parameters open ended, and in 100 or 50PP intervals. I’m pretty sure Sport to this day still has a more diverse event list than 7 despite how many more features are available to utilize in the newer game.
GT Sport's event wasn't there during the game's launch either. And though it wasn't a paid DLC, those events are also chase the rabbit format against the usual AI. I mean it depends if you're ok with those kind of AI yeah. These events all featured Qualifying and grid starts, something the fanbase also continuously complain about for GT in not featuring those. I think this is more about Sophy than about the events not being in the game this late, honestly I did suspect that PD removed Qualifying and used chase the rabbit format due to their AI being crap before, but brought back them when the AI is ready.
My frustration has been that compelling content is all right there, they’ve simply never put it all together, except for now, when they’re doing so behind a paywall.

Genuinely I’d be curious to see how fast the standard AI would be with out any of the artificial holdbacks they’ve put in. Though I’m not sure if we’ll ever see that with Sophy being all the rage now.
Sophy is something that can't be run on the old hardware, and is one of something that can't be on PS4 version of GT7 (unlike Spec III update). Though people complain about the lack of single player content, braindead AI (as well as lack of qualifying) is also what people continously complain about, so it just seems that to want a better AI, it turns out to be something more demanding than people thought, like this only being PS5 exclusive that it's one of the most GPU hungry stuff in GT7 or the paywall likely covering its development (maybe Sophy 3.0 is still not the final version, and it's expected that Sophy would be prominently featured in GT8, but turns out that campaign featuring Sophy happens in GT7, though in paywall, maybe for further refined Sophy in next game).
All of this should have been part of Spec III, for both PS4 (albeit without Sophy, just like every other past update) and PS5.
This has qualifying and grid starts, unlike the current events. Doing qualifying with the current braindead AI....
It’s always a mix. Now we’re getting some race events and 24hr racing which has been in other Gran Turismo’s before I’m sure.
Maybe Sophy 3.0 is still not the final version either. Those events in previous games don't have said AI or racing format like grid start or qualifying.

Cool! I'll buy it and I'll enjoy it.

DLC is always divisive I guess, it usually comes down to how you feel about the base game. For my part, I think base GT7 is excellent, I don't agree with the assertion that it is "missing features" or "half-baked". So, I just see it as a nice extra for those that want it, and take it from there.

They completely ignore the fact that a vast majority of the GT7 player base is made of PS4 players, probably not as much by now, I know... but still I wouldn't be surprised if let's say half of the active players are still using their PS4 to play this game.

This part is just not accurate. Even at launch the split between PS5 and PS4 sales was about 2:1 in favour of the newer system (not just for GT but for pretty much all crossgen). PS4 was never the majority.

Since then the split has definitely increased in favour of the PS5. There are sales analysis published every month for the PS4 - GT7 never appears in the top 20 sellers. People aren’t buying it anymore on that.

The vast majority of the player-base is on PS5 and Playstation are winding down support for the PS4. It’s sad for the owners of that system but this decision makes complete sense from a business POV.

If Polyphony really needed three extra years for GT7 just to create qualifying, endurance races, and an additional 50 races on the existing tracks, then I think they would have rightfully gone under.

None of this is new to them and was core content (with the exception of qualifying) from GT1 to GT6. I'm deliberately excluding Sophie here, as she's not implemented in the standard offline races (unfortunately).

Furthermore, I felt like every update was already paid for, since neither the number of races nor the number of cars and their variations still doesn't come close to the predecessors.

(No station wagons / FAR too few cars from the last 5 years (it almost feels like playing a classic car game) / instead of hypercars, sports cars, or current models, we got clunkers / hardly any pickups / no MR or FF races for everyone / no races for supercharged cars)

Now making us pay for endurance races feels like a slap in the face.

This is what happens when developers allow backwards compatibility with a console which is over ten years old. The ps5 owners complain the game is being held back and the ps4 complain about features they can’t access.

I know not everyone can afford a ps5 but it’s 5 years old now and it’s about time sony let go of the ps4.

The ps5 has been underwhelming as a whole and i can’t help but feel things like backwards compatibility are partly responsible

The cutoff was always gonna happen eventually. You’re naive if you thought otherwise.

The important thing is that the core content - that is tracks and cars - remains available to everybody and remains FREE.

Games like Rennsport, iRacing, and so on charge money for every DLC, and no one complains.
Odd that you would cherry-pick two titles that have long been called out for egregious pricing models and ignore everything else.

It's a complete fantasy to say that no-one has complained about Rennsport and iRacing for their pricing, many, many people have (and yet neither charges for what is core gameplay functionality).

The concerns with regard to this DLC are well-founded, for two reasons. One it's baffling that features such as race-weekends, and endurance races get locked to a DLC, and even more so that they are not available to PS4 players.

The cutoff was always gonna happen eventually. You’re naive if you thought otherwise.
It was, but are you honestly saying that a version without SOPHY couldn't have been released for PS4 players?

The important thing is that the core content - that is tracks and cars - remains available to everybody and remains FREE.
Agreed it is great, but that doesn't change that locking core functionality behind a paywall isn't odd.

Stop whining.
Valid discussion remains valid discussion, you don't get to try and shut it down because you don't like/agree with it.

Paying to sweat is going to suck. IMO. But I’ll definitely give it a go. Don’t want it super easy. A challenge is nice. But don’t want it to be frustrating is all. Sophy ain’t no joke on some cars and tracks. I can beat the current version on hard arcade but still it can be great racing and also annoying. I wish GT7 had a mid race save option.

It is kinda funny seeing Ppl beeing pissed off that their 12 Year old PS4 can't handle the newest tec, me as a PS5 Owner, i am pissed GT7 launched on PS4 at all, as it was certainly a cut to the full potential of the game in the first place.
So PS4 Users, please be happy you got GT7 at all, including all its free Updates, only beeing excluded from the Sophy Program, wich seems to be a hardware thing. Even PS5 is now exactly 5 Years old, you may think about an upgrade some day.

Regarding the OG Post, the DLC, i have to admit to many others that the main problem seems to be the price, wich isn't even officially announced, as well a big lag in information about the content itself.
