If there was cheating going on in GT7 it would be very well documented and publicized by now. Fully exploiting the limits of the track (whether or not they are "sensible" limits) is not cheating.

Getting AI to fill in the blanks in online lobbies is a subject we recently touched upon with the titans, and the feeling was quite unanimous : no thanks ! Of course this is partly based on what Sophy is actually capable of doing, but not only. We prefer a "small" lobby with only humans behind the wheel.
I'd prefer that as well but I only have 1 friend that plays GT7 and we're both too busy to join a league. It'd benefit us if we could start a race together and have a grid of Sophy agents.

There's nothing wrong with having the option to do so.

I think you're clutching at straws here

Ok. Thanks for clarification.

Yeah I was trying to make sense of it. I still think PD is complicating this too much. But if this is the case I hope we won’t stop getting Sophy updates because of this strange split.

And I think this seems to look like we wont getting big Sophy update for Spec 3

Wed Thursday can't come soon enough... We need clarification lol

It is dividing us...
So I gather:

Spec III = Sophy 2.0 on more tracks ?! (Sophy cannot swim)
PP DLC = Sophy 3.0 on the sail boat at sea (Sophy can swim)

absolutely, we won't use it for our league, but it can be nice to race with fewer people

I’ve read the press releases - and I know it’s semantics - but just because the Power Pack uses 3.0 exclusively, doesn’t mean other parts of the game can’t.

I’m 98% sure Sophy is only available in the DLC.

But the use of exclusively at the end of the list could mean the events as a whole and not just Sophy 3.0 - that’s the other 2%. Plus the fact that it’s PD/Sony comms

Edit: OK scrap that - the English UK version uses the word only. Make that 99.9% now

I'm just hoping with Sophy 3.0, the new events in the Power-Pack could could include some decent oval racing. No Ovals currently have Sophy, as it wasn't built for it, but with a whole new version, I've got my fingers crossed. A 'Daytona 500' type event would be awesome.
I've tried to create my own custom races, using tuned 60's & 70's muscle cars, but the pack usually splits into clusters of 6-9 cars, and they don't behave as hoped.

Was just thinking it's so soon to be getting another opening movie. Then I realized Spec II was 2 years ago

It comes down to what constitutes "Sophy 3.0".

We've all been hoping to get a version of Sophy that races like Sophy on Weak boost, but that doesn't have ludicrous levels of speed after a pitstop thereby making pitstops point less.

Sophy 3.0 could be a hybrid that is made for Sophy events (at least for now)

I read this as we have updated Sophy 3.0 that will come as part of Spec III. The PP uses Sophy exclusively for all races hence why it’s mentioned in the press release. My reasoning is that the trailer said that Spec III was required for the PP I.e. no Spec III, No Sophy 3.0, No Power Pack!

Again this is just my interpretation of the info we have and we’ll just need to wait and see!

I'm still hoping (so that I can then be disappointed) that we get Sophy 3.0 in custom races and that the writing was just weird.
Same. I don't think it makes sense to have custom race with 2.0 while other parts of the game run 3.0.

The only explanation I could see is to have custom race 3.0 locked behind the paid dlc, which would be understandable.

We know that the power pack has tracks that are not currently supported by Sophy, but what does that mean? I don't know.

At the end of the day, all we can do is speculate and wait. Hoping for the best, prepared for the worst 😀

There is no divide. The DLC content will be completely separate.
Holy contradictions, Batman!
Sophy 3.0 won't replace the current Sophy 2.0 races on the current tracks but will only be used for the Power Pack races.
We don't know that
B-Spec (if it is coming, which is likely) will only be available in the Power Pack races.
We don't know that
The car upgrades (maybe simply cosmetics, maybe some kind of race package) will only be on those cars in those specific Power Pack races for which these are will be pre selected, just like the recent daily race A with the special tune tiny race car (was it a Fiat?) whose specs could not be replicatedvia the regularly available parts from the tuning shop.
We don't know that

The only reasoning is that Sophy 3.0 is ready for tyre strategies and maybe rain for a curated set or races, but it's not ready to be used in all circumstances that custom races allow.

Hoping for the best, prepared for PD (not implying they are the worst, rather that PD tends to fall short compared to our wild optimism)

The difference is - the DLC will work like missions (I expect) so the competitors are known. That makes it easier to define how you want Sophy to behave.

With the World events the competitors and environment can be different each time, plus Custom races can be adjusted even further

Not the only reasoning.
Another is that it's just exclusive to the DLC to make some extra money as they know people will pay for it.

That would be silly in my opinion. I don't think that would be the reason.

Again "3.0" is a whole version number jump. The last time we got a version number jump was Sophy 2.0, which brought new capabilities: the ability to use (almost) any car, whether tuned or not, on a bigger range of tracks with bigger grids in full Custom Races rather than the original 2-3 laps against a handful of them in certain standard cars in specific events.

You'd need to ask why and how Sophy 3.0 will differ from 2.0 in terms of capabilities to require a whole version number jump - and what that would bring to the game and why it would be specifically mentioned only in the Power Pack, with its endurance racing, and not for the Spec III update.

I've given a couple of possibilities - strategy planning, B-Spec - but I can't really think of any more. "It's faster/more humanlike" isn't new capabilities.

In GT5 you could cheat by editing your savefile, since it was stored locally on your PS3. Now that savefiles are stored online we don't have the same access to them.
That makes sense it definitely had some hackers. I know people say GT7 cant be hacked but where there’s a will there’s a way. Crazy COD can be but GT7 is some kind of fortress immune to it. Activision should talk to Polyphony Digital then since they’re so secure.

Strategy planning is actually an interesting topic if we consider it would be only available in the PP because as far as we know (guess), the PP race settings are fixed. If that's the case PD could simply define the strategy for each car, so it would be difficult to think Sophy decided the strategy. Qualifying would also be defined by PD. Just use the softer compound.

If on the other hand, we can use Sophy 3.0 in custom races and we can use different tyres, or even if we don't and Sophy can use different strategies based on race length and tyre/fuel multipliers , now that would definitely be Sophy deciding the strategies.

My guess is Sophy 3.0 can use different tyres (I don't know if we seen this already) and we can use B-Spec like it was show in the world tour event.

No-one's saying it's not possible to do, it's just not likely. It's not juice worth the squeeze and it's too obvious to get away with.

If someone's faster than you in GT7, your first thought should not be "they're cheating" because they're almost certainly not.

the game is 3 years old. Until someone puts up some sort of evidence of cheating, there is no cheating. I mean many of the fastest guys in the world do post vids of their laps (Jeddah is a member here and does so) and they aren't cheating.

Generally, cheating in a time trial on this game requires the painfully obvious corner cutting (on a track without proper off-track penalties in place like we saw at Willow Springs Streets Of Willow) or wallriding (which even then, requires a corner of a certain size relative to the speed loss to get through it clean versus the amount lost just grinding against the wall outside it and realistically, only High Speed Ring had that issue to my memory). Otherwise, it tends to be extremely rare that you even can cheat on here so the faster folks are more so dependent on how much you can exploit the physics relative to the track and car chosen.

Wall riding and corner cutting isn't really "cheating." I mean within hours of the recent Blue Moon TT event going live it became apparent that you needed to wall ride to set a fast time. The issue was fixed, but either way, that isn't cheating. If the "rules" allow it then everyone is free to exploit the situation. Same with track limits. The fastest drivers find the fastest ways to get around the track and if the track limits allow you to go way off track without invalidating the lap then that's the rules. Cheating would be something like editing the car's performance data so that you have an extra 100HP or something. Or if you found a glitch that allowed you to drive through a barrier or something. But even then, the many many actually top drivers in the world would quickly recognize that something hinky was afoot and start hollering.

I’m gonna send an email to Activision maybe they can get some tips from PD haha.

Back to Spec III and DLC, looking forward to the update, I’ll be on the bench waiting to hear opinions and more info on the dlc.
