What do you expect the Power Pack DLC will cost?

Again "3.0" is a whole version number jump. The last time we got a version number jump was Sophy 2.0, which brought new capabilities: the ability to use (almost) any car, whether tuned or not, on a bigger range of tracks with bigger grids in full Custom Races rather than the original 2-3 laps against a handful of them in certain standard cars in specific events.

You'd need to ask why and how Sophy 3.0 will differ from 2.0 in terms of capabilities to require a whole version number jump - and what that would bring to the game and why it would be specifically mentioned only in the Power Pack, with its endurance racing, and not for the Spec III update.

I've given a couple of possibilities - strategy planning, B-Spec - but I can't really think of any more. "It's faster/more humanlike" isn't new capabilities.
Totally agree. However 3.0 could also simply be a marketing gimmick and the following be closer to the truth. We will find out on Thursday.
The difference is - the DLC will work like missions (I expect) so the competitors are known. That makes it easier to define how you want Sophy to behave.
…

Remember we are jumping from Sophy 2.1 to 3.0, not from 2.0 to 3.0.

From 2.0 to 2.1, Sophy was able to handle player's tuning settings and learned to do pit stops.
Going from 2.0 to 2.1 was a small thing in term of number, but was a big deal considering what it meant when it comes to teaching the AI and what was given to the player.

Guess what folks? I've now made the decision to not buy the DLC on Thursday. I will enjoy Spec III and see what you guys all have to report about the DLC.

For me it's clear, that the DLC will be more important for me that the SpecIII Update.

But still i won't get the DLC right away. I just started God of War Ragnarok and it will take me at least until Christmas to check out the Update alone.

That makes sense it definitely had some hackers. I know people say GT7 cant be hacked but where there’s a will there’s a way. Crazy COD can be but GT7 is some kind of fortress immune to it. Activision should talk to Polyphony Digital then since they’re so secure.
GT7 can be (and people currently do) extracted and the files looked at and modified. The problem is you can't modify the files and the compress them back to format and just load the game back up, with GT7 being always online and the save files being stored server side, there's no way to modify the save files or bypass the servers at the moment, if you attempt that (which you can only do with a hacked PS) you'd get your PS blacklisted by Sony so you can never use it online again. So no one is doing it.

It definitely will be possible when PD flick the switch that allows the game to be played and saved offline (and it just a switch in the game that enables that functionality) again, with a hacked PS4/5 (so simply connecting to the PS will not be a good idea). But until such a time, modifying save files is impossible and modifying the games files and being able to boot the game back up and connect to the network is extremely unlikely at this point.

I was googling some of this and found that info. So thank you. Not to say it isn’t being done with a hacked system because I have ran across it from time to time but mostly likely they’re banned shortly after that from what you’ve explained.

COD on the other hand, beginning to understand why that is a haven for cheaters/hackers.

I wouldn't put it past them sticking version 3.0 on it just to mean its usage by B-Spec and nothing more (in which case I'd be disappointed as I was never particularly fond of or saw much point in original B-Spec). However, if you think it might signify a big jump, then its implementation across the board in ordinary SP races (for those on PS5 who've bought the DLC), all events, all tracks, all weathers, would be a real game changer. The GT Holy Grail for me is good AI across a good curated SP career. Not expecting this until GT8, but even if there's just a teeny-tiny chance of it happening this week I'll happily spend a few days living in hope.
But getting it just to work with all tyres would be more of an improvement than B-Spec in my opinion.

Edit: And I'd genuinely be amazed if you ( and certainly Jordan) don't already know what's coming; surely PD brief trusted media so they can get their articles readied to go? Or is it part of the embargo conditions that you can't even admit there's an embargo until it's lifted? 😉

I hope everyone who buys the DLC comes on here to say how amazing the DLC is, even if it sucks, just so those people end up buying it and then finding out themselves

Eh, I don't understand all this dramatic buy, not buy stuff. Ya'll are on this forum.. like 90% chance you're gonna buy it haha How many people have now suddenly said they went out and got PS5s?

Also waiting on two things
  • Price (not a dealbreaker unless it's comically expensive (~$40)
  • Reviews
Hopefully tomorrow we'll get to know what those improvements to online races are

How many people have now suddenly said they went out and got PS5s?
I didn't make stats, but may be on a hypotetical Venn diagram the circle for people being up in arms because of the DLC and the circle for people upgrading from PS4 show no intersection between the two groups ☺️

Head over to see the PMR thread or in the discord, half are unhappy, the other half are trying to convince people it’s not that bad if you just overlook the stuff that the unhappy people aren’t happy about. lol.

The DLC is going to be the same. I’m waiting to read all of that too. Looking forward to it actually haha. 🍿

I am so enjoying the new PS5 and will purchase the Powerpack DLC but probably wait a few hours/days before installing just to see how the new Spec III fares in play. I believe the Spec III & the DLC will be too much to digest all at once, I want to see how it all works first before adding the DLC...

Yes, I'll purchase but I'll wait before installing...

won't it install automatically after purchase?

...been a long time since I bought a dlc for anything lol. I can't remember if you're prompted to install after you buy it.

I agree on both points. If PD want players to experience a real 24H race, it requires a team of drivers. We had that in B-Spec. It would make sense for SOPHY 3.0 to Race Together with players to share that load.

With SOPHY 2.1 all players are pretty much Eddie Hall if players want to replicate 24H racing.

Yeah, it's different than the PS3 era DLCs where you downloaded either the full thing or this activation file. Nowadays it will just set a flag in your account so that you are eligible to use it.

This one's two-faceted.

Firstly, SIE absolutely does not work that way  I'm used to receiving stuff under embargo across virtually every other publisher (and car manufacturer!), even if sometimes it's absurdly short timing. I can't think of an occasion where I've had a press release under embargo about GT from SIE, although we have obviously had access to things like PSVR2 and Sophy at events.

So it's rather despite this that we do usually know at least something more than is openly shared before time, even if it's rarely everything; CGV and Yas Marina came as absolute shocks to us  Sometimes the things we know come from privileged conversation, where both parties have the expectation of privacy, and sometimes it's wholly off-the-record, so these can never be shared ahead of time. Even when it's not, and something that has come from other sources, I don't really like spoiling stuff for other people, and the whole "we know something that you don't and we're not sharing except to say that we do" thing seems a bit gauche.

That said I might drop hints, but they don't look like hints most of the time - even after the fact  - but sometimes people will read virtually anything into virtually anything, so I don't do it often in case folks get the impression I do it a lot and start hyping up random crap from putting two and two together and getting cheesecake.

In this case, I think everything that I did know is now in the public domain, so I'm going to be as surprised as anyone by what is and isn't in Spec III and the PP DLC.

With SOPHY 2.1 all players are pretty much Eddie Hall if players want to replicate 24H racing.
Or, as she's more local to me, Gracie Mitchell.

Yea, I've been over there. Game isn't a dumpster fire like some are making it out to be. A bit rough like most launches are these days and within days they've made a solid attempt at fixing some of the issues. Some people act very hyperbolic on the internet. Everything's gotta be an extreme.

Just as well, looked to me like a number of people of course ended up caving and buying it and found out.. Hey, its not that bad. Yea, it looks like a DirectX 9 game, but it mostly works.

Point is FOMO has an incredible power over people, including myself. Except I stopped trying to kid myself about it awhile ago and now I just get the game cause I know I'm going to anyway. No reason for me to huff and puff about it. So I suspect the DLC will be the same. Even if there is some annoying typical PD issues with it, it will also be good I think and that's enough to get people onboard.

Not to mention even if they do know stuff, like that GT8 is expected to come 2027 or PS6 launch title, that is of course subject to change at any time.

But these dudes are holding all the secrets  "I don't know any more secrets!".. sounds exactly like something a person with more secrets would say ;)

Thanks for taking the time to explain that. Very interesting. You're gonna have a very hectic 24-48 hrs bashing out articles later in the week then, on top of keeping a lid on all the antics that'll be going on here 🤣

DirectX 9. Nice. My point exactly haha. “Caved and purchased, it’s not that bad, it looks bad but it MOSTLY works”. Those are the exact arguments being made. I suspect the same of the DLC. I hope people that buy it will just be honest. Just as FOMO is a real thing, so is, I’m disappointed in this but I can’t get my money back so I’ll try to cling onto whatever good I can find.

I don't know what it is still so hard for people to get it...

The DLC is just an additional non mandatory side quest to extent the life of GT7.

No one is forced or obligated to buy if you don't want to.
You don't have to buy it right away.
You can wait 5 years to buy it, no one is going to shame you for it.

Spec III on the other hand, whether you like it or not, you will get it for free and you will act happy about it.

It's really that simple.

For myself, as a die hard gt fanboi. I will get the DLC on day one because I can afford it regardless of its price, as long as it is
... Less then $60 ;)

If it's more than $60.... I might reconsider, and wait for when it comes down, if ever....

Your $60 might be somebody else’s $40 and that might be somebody else’s $20 and that might be somebody else’s $10. We’re all fans of the game haha. But we have price limits on what is reasonable.

Of all the people prevaricating here, you are the one who's 100% gonna end up buying this DLC. And PMR. Bookmark this. 🤣

What you're overlooking is that there's good and bad in amost everything. It might be a good party to some people, or a not-so-good party to others, and the people at the party can all give their opinions. But at least they're all at the party, having a lot of fun, or just a bit.
But think now about the people standing outside at the window, in the rain, looking in and hoping, wishing for it to be a bad party because they're not part of it, on the phone telling their mates it's a bad party and sneering at all the people inside for being there having, or just trying to have, a good time.
I have genuine pity for anyone without the money to buy the DLC, or a PS5, or whatever (even PMR), but for anyone who can afford it/them (and that's most people, probably you) it's better for them to join the fun than come across as some kind of disgruntled voyeur wishing for things to fail because they're not part of it.
Just get the DLC. And PMR. You know you want to, and you know you're going to too. Nobody's making more posts about them than you.

Even at $50.. The last three years I have spent nothing on GT7 and been having a great time with all the free content we have gotten. I have no problem spending maybe around $17 and some change a year to support and get some more fun time out of the game. I don’t think it will be more than $20 however financially I am doing well where I can afford even $50 for my hobby.

Not to say it isn’t being done with a hacked system because I have ran across it from time to time but mostly likely they’re banned shortly after that from what you’ve explained.
Just to clarify what I was saying, you will not be running across anyone playing GT7 online with a custom modded version of the game at present. This may be feasible in the future though.

This feels like a very negative way to go about life. And that's coming from me, who most people I know in real life accuse me of being overly negative and a bummer lol

I think what really helped me have a different outlook on video games was hearing and reading stories from developers. Watching things like Indie Game: The Movie or following Giant Bomb (I haven't watched them for a long time; it's different these days) for like a decade where they'd have many friends/guests on who were developers or the guys would share second hand accounts from private, privileged conversations (similar to what @Famine was touching on) about a game that came out. Hearing the horror stories. This isn't the correct thread for it, but like everyone dumping on Ian Bell as if everything is under his control and rides on his shoulders. For all we know, he had a production timeline set up that involved fixing all these issues etc pre-release, and then the publisher was like SURPRISE! You need to release this 3 months earlier than we talked about. Or we are pulling half your staff onto another project for the last 3 months. Deal with it.

So all of those potential nightmares could be happening at PD. Unexpected deaths, peoples parental leaves, financial reasons and losing your house, license deals falling through, milestones changing, SIE surprising them with different ultimatums etc etc. When you actually understand how hard and complex it is to make video games these days, it's a miracle anything comes out at all. And in the end, they are just video games. If an employee needs to leave work or take a vacation or family emergency or whatever infinite possibility you can think of, so that they can attend to that situation, is more important than a virtual car or track or feature coming to a game a day or two or a patch cycle later. **** happens.

Edit: Heres a great series as well: Double Fine Dev Documentary Series. And before I get a bunch of "Polyphony isn't an indie dev!", it doesn't matter. When you hear the second hand stories from devs who've worked on huge AAA productions like Call of Duty or a Sony first party title, it's not totally different. It comes with it's own crazy set of hoops and hurdles.

Also, I finally realized the word I had been thinking about in relation to the paid and free DLC: Subsidized. Yes, the tracks and cars are coming free with Spec 3, but the DLC could basically be subsidizing the cost of those.

Screenshot 2025-12-02 182120.webp

That is how I choose to believe this is all happening. I fall back on the nothing-is-free notion here. Somehow money is coming from somewhere to pay for those licenses and dev time.

Anyone thinking this DLC will be $50-60 is just being downright ridiculous.

Day 1 buy for me either way. I don't buy a lot of games so a small purchase to extend the life of GT7 isn't a big deal.
Real talk… Like I’m kinda shock reading some of this stuff… some folks just might be salty because in the end it’s not that serious..
