How much will the addition of the WRC and NASCAR affect Gran Turismo 5 sales?

  • They will somewhat decrease sales because they're different and people don't know what to expect.

  • They will greatly decrease sales. Most people believe they stray too far from the roots of Gran Turi

it's gonna be neat... finally the people who rag on stock cars for being "heavy and slow" will see just how stupidly wrong they are - AWESOME!

Outside of the States I think sales will be relatively the same but in the U.S. their sales could be a lot bigger if they promote the NASCAR part of the game properly.

It will only expand the series so sales should go up.

NASCAR might give a few extra sales, but I doubt anything major. People who like racing games and own a PS3 would buy it either way. Though I may be under estimating those rednecks who love NASCAR and wont buy a racing game which doesn't have it (*sarcasm* please dont lynch me) ;)

I see WRC maybe attracting a few people though, again, not heaps :p

Nascar 09 sold 100k on ps3 and 450k on all ps3+360+ps2.

How much GT5 sales will be affected depends for a large part on whether or not the WRC and NASCAR tracks are also present in the game and not just the cars and drivers. When they are included, than I expect that sales will increase significantly, otherwise hardly or not at all.

i voted the second opyion, it's not massively influential but can only help eh?

Not a fan of NASCAR so hopefully it's not compulsory to do.
I like WRC, so I'm happy it's in.

I guess it will increase sales.

and the EA games were junk too.

I have to agree I tried the demo for the last one it was monumentally bad but if it still sold in those numbers it should help sales but like was also said many of those players would probably buy GT5 anyway.
Although I do think that Sony will also be using GT5 to drive PS3 sales as well & if it gets some PS2 & 360 owners who are die hard Nascar or WRC fans to invest in a PS3 as well then I'm sure they will consider it an entirely worthwhile exercise.

Will greatly affect sales in the US with nascar for sure, europe is a sure sell so, WRC is a nice addition but not going to make a huge difference! :)

I think sales in the US will pickup, because of NASCAR. And the WRC being in the game might pickup
a few more around the world.

If PD adds some IndyCars and an IndyCar season to simulation mode, then they'll sell even more games! Us IndyCar fans haven't gotten a console IndyCar game since 2004!

I don't think WRC will boost sales much as it's essentially nothing new(p2p tracks would be the only new thing). However the inclusion of at least 2 new forms of racing(Drift and NASCAR) will boost it a little more.

Also, I agree VNAF, I would love to have some IRL cars.

I think WRC will increase sales a bit in Europe, Nascar obviously won't increase sales in Europe, but will in the US.

The inclusion of WRC and NASCAR can only help the sales of Gran Turismo.

Actually I think there are a lot of closet NASCAR fans in Europe. Normally I watch the races on Justin.tv and about 1/2 of all the people on the channels(there is about 3,000-4,000 every race weekend over 2 channels). And that is just the part that is up when the races are on live and know of that site and channels.

If Polyphony does it like the rest of the GT series, the addition of Nascar and WRC will expand sales quite a bit.
I actually am curious to see how this is going to be and comparable to the old Nascar games of the past.
I plan on buying it once it comes out.

I think the addition of NASCAR to Gran Turismo is great. Now I'm not really interested in NASCAR, BUT alot of Yanks are, so people that use to buy a dedicated NASCAR game will now buy GT. This same scenario will apply to other Rally games, as WRC is now going to be in GT. Although this all depends on how good each buyer consider's GT's representation's to be. I personally am really happy to see that Gran Turismo's rally will now be far more realistic.

Well as someone posted in another thread(I think it was this one actually). A large number of people that bought dedicated games to those series have also bought previous GT games and will likely buy GT5.

Seeing as the Formula 1's are in GT, and a lot of rally cars are already in it, as well as the LM race cars for certin brands, I don't really see what all the hubub is about. All they are doing is expanding the number of cars avalible for certin events. Not sure if it would bring new tracks to the game, seeming as there are a fair few Rally tracks already in it, and with Test Course, and Super Speedway - (GT3) already there.

Well it will bring a few new tracks, the rally tracks in previous games weren't proper rally courses as they weren't point to point. There will be at least 2 NASCAR tracks(Daytona & Indianapolis) and I expect a couple more for each series.

I think the inclusion of WRC and NASCAR is interesting. I love WRC and NASCAR. I'll definitely buy GT5 for this.

IMO, i think GT5 will be the Definitive Racing Game, because it will Cover a lot in motorsports. Lets see it this way:

-If i want a game were i can Just race Cars that i cant buy, ill play GT5
-If i want to be a Tuner and create unique cars, ill play GT5
-If i want to play the WRC, ill Buy GT5
-If im a fan of Nascar, ill buy GT5

So, i think its covering everything about motorsports and, yes the addition of WRC and Nascar will imporve sales rates.

I completely agree with you there. And it was mentioned before that when EA made the NASCAR games, they weren't that great, so thinking of a group who has made 4 extremely sucsessful (about to be 5) racing car games, it will become a bench mark for the next WRC and NSACAR games. Hopefully they will become better and better, leading to more sales for Ps3 over Xbox, and it would make Sony the devine brand. :D

One of the things that got me jazzed about GT was back in GT2, the first time I discovered the Twin Ring Oval and the Test Course.
