How much will the addition of the WRC and NASCAR affect Gran Turismo 5 sales?

  • They will somewhat decrease sales because they're different and people don't know what to expect.

  • They will greatly decrease sales. Most people believe they stray too far from the roots of Gran Turi

I believe people underestimate how massive the inclusion of WRC will be.

Yamauchi strives for a ridiculously insane amount of perfectionism.

With that knowledge, and the fact that they have been working on this game forever, I believe that just the WRC part of GT5 will be enough to make one hell of a game.

Since they got the license know, I wonder what additional content we will get about WRC. Maybe some interesting documentary's.

Bump. I'm curious to see more voters' opinions.

Not that I wouldn't have bought this game anyway but I'm pretty much guaranteed to end up buying any WRC game.

Really can't wait to see how well it turns out in this. I know that neither of them are the full championships but hopefully they'll both end up that way with DLC.

If they set up the nascar and wrc with online point style leagues, this game will be played for years to come by a bunch of people. I really hope they do this, and still don't understand why every online sports game doesn't have online leagues of some sort. It doesn't seem like it would be that hard to implement into a game.

Whie I think NASCAR is a cool addition even though something I am not really into, I wonder how in depth PD will do it... I mean will it be just driving cars around a track or will you have a spotter who talks to you, warns of who's outside on a turn and gives advice? What will pitting be like, how in depth will it be? What about aero, how much will minor damage effect your aero abilities?

I think NASCAR is a very different sport from other types of racing almost as much as rally but in a different direction. That said, putting cars that look like NASCAR cars on an oval track isn't enough if you ask me, to do it right they have to capture what makes NASCAR racing so unique... all the details and facets involved. NASCAR is not just about doing 3 wide into a turn at 200MPH, there is a lot of thinking and planning and gamblnig winning a NASCAR race, I hope PD capture that detail.

Oh and off topic, what's the chance the WRC portion will be on par with RBR? It's probably just a dream, but a gorgeous looking RBR quality rally racer? Even on limited tracks it would make me pretty happy.

I doubt WRC will increase sales with it basically being in the game since GT2.

It's all about branding, people will see that GT5 has NASCAR and WRC and it will make them think about it. Yes GT has always had rallying, and there's always been at least 1 oval track to race high speed on but WRC and NASCAR arn't just rallying and high speed oval racing. They do thoes things, but they are more specific, but that's not my point. My point is that people recognise a brand and f a brand is popular people flock to it. If PD advertise GT5 right and use the brands well in the advertising I can see a moderate increase insales. I don't see a huge increase because he GT series is a high selling seies anyway, so I would thank that most of the people bothered would be buying the game regardless, but for some, seeing these series in the game might be the clincher.

Nascar & the WRC i think could increase sales dramatically, especially motorsport fans who haven't seen Nascar & the WRC Championship before.

Well seeing as how some people from a nascar forum were jumping with unbridled Joy, I can say it will affect it greatly.

I'm sure a bunch red-necks will buy GT5 just because of NASCAR and then throw it away when they find out there arent enought pick-up trucks in the game :lol::lol:.

(Sorry if my stupid joke offends anyone, it isn't the intention).

Fixed it for you.

 tell me about it

I'm sure the Ferrari F2007 will attract alot of F1 fans as well. Like these guys

If they can buy GT5, I doubt they are rednecks.

I wouldnt go that far. I started playing GT2 in a single wide trailer on the side of the Shenandoah River. A river that runs North...

George W= redneck
Bill Foxworthy= redneck
Me= redneck
Ted Nugent= redneck

A lot of "rednecks" can play PS3.

George W=Can he even turn the controller on?
Foxworthy= Would just tell repetitive jokes online
Ted Nugent= Would just shoot the PS3.

:p:lol:

Outside of the States I think sales will be relatively the same but in the U.S. their sales could be a lot bigger if they promote the NASCAR part of the game properly.

Pretty much what i think.

I don't believe WRC will that that much of a difference. There are plenty of other games that offer a better overall rally experience than GT.

I would buy the game if it had neither of these so it makes no odds to me :)

Take in account that WRC licensing means that the rally experience in GT5 will be totally different from the one in previous GT's, so it CAN boost the sales.

It can only be good for Gran Turismo
Nascar helps much in the US
WRC helps in Europe
And if D1GP would be added it would help heavily in Japan
But I don't think that this can affect the sales much, cause we buy it because it's a great simulator and car library ^^

I will need to say that it will heavily increase sales of GT5, but not just for these reasons. Gran Turismo is still Gran Turismo no matter what other series may well show up. A Gran Turismo game shouldn't ever be about just the WRC, NASCAR, certain automobile makers (like Ferrari), or anything like that. You play Gran Turismo for one reason- the fun and enjoyable style of racing that makes GT what it is. That's not the question being asked, though. This is about the WRC and NASCAR influencing sale of GT5, and I think it will very much affect sales. Especially if the package is a great one, then this game will sell VERY well no matter what some dope on YouTube thinks about Gran Turismo 5 and the GT series as a whole.

So tab me for the top option.

I'll probably fall asleep going around in circles for 2 hours!!! Just another aspect of the game that I'll have to play to complete it. I don't care for WRC a whole lot, either. Lookin' forward to a Yaris Cup race, I tell ya!!! You betcha...

I was going to buy GT5 anyway, but when I heard Nascar was involved, I knew I was going to buy it the day it came out, I wonder if Restrictor plates will be used on Daytona though, because the COT can hit over 230 without them.

Pretty minimal difference in my opinion. I think it will sell the same with or without it. It will sell gang busters like previous GT's have.

I think if you're a NASCAR fan you get the better deal because the WRC in GT5 will be poor as there will be limited circuits + locations.

Even games like Colin McRae Rally only just managed to get a decent selection of locations. GT's rally stages are too arcadey, they have those annoying 'glass walls' and are either too bland or way too generic.

I think both franchises will be missing that full-on experience and only offer limited aspects a dedicated-genre game offers.

Still, it's a step in the right direction but I'd like to see more open wheel cars such as GP2 / Formula Ford / More classic F1 cars etc.

If PD adds some IndyCars and an IndyCar season to simulation mode, then they'll sell even more games! Us IndyCar fans haven't gotten a console IndyCar game since 2004!

I know how you feel!

Same for F1 too, not since the 2006 season have we had one and F12009 is only PSP/Wii. We have to wait next year for F12010 on PS3/XBX.

Why can't somebody make an IndyCar / F1 / GP2 all-in-one single seater career sim? There's a HUGE market for that type of game! 💡

If Sony has enough advertising sense to put NASCAR and WRC logos on the box then it would definitely help. People who normally ignore GT will pay more attention if they see that their favorite series is in the game.

Chances are they will be on the back of the box where they normally put some of the manufacturer logos.

The nascar element will definitely sell GT in america. If they advertise at nascar events then yeah.

GT is incredibly popular in europe so adding WRC will simply soldify that.

The last good EA Nascar game was either 03 or 04. Whichever one had you build up your shops. It also had you build, maintain and improve your chassis, engines and bodies. You also hired different engine, body and chassis builders.

It brought an RPG element to racing. It was addictive.

But not as addictive as GT!!

Also, I hope we will be able to drive the NASCAR cup cars on all tracks as opposed to just ovals. They do road race them and they are pretty quick turning right as well as left.

I cant see why it would decrease sales of the game. As long as it is quality, the more content the better imo.

It won't make a big difference I think.
WRC' s where in already. And if PD uses stages and countries from a genuine WRC calander I think people will be attracted. But then again; al Group-B cars should be in the game aswell.

Nascar won't do much in Europe or Asia. But it is a good way to get the attention towards this type of racing. But driving on ovals will not attract much from here I guess.
As long as you will have Motegi, Indianapolis and Daytona I won't do much for the Nascar fans.
