Konami will have to drop the weird upgrade system and racing through theme parks, except one or two tracks.

Oh, come on, what's wrong with getting a little inventive every once in a while?

Sim fans need to lighten up.

To state a game as something which will threaten GT5, it must be in a similar section of the market, namely not an arcade racer, or one which claims to be hardcore sim when it's actually not (yet again we're looking at you Shift). There's nothing wrong with being inventive at all so long as it's done well and I don't think anyone is saying it's wrong.

Konami would have to drop those things mentioned which they've had a trend for recently, or that is implied I don't know what Konami have been doing personally, in order to compete with a more realistic simulation based game such as GT and thats just the facts in order to appeal to the same consumer base.

Keep in mind that if you're in a thread about a game which 'WILL threaten GT5' as described in said threads title, you're going to get people interested who are interested in GT5, and therein interested in a generally more realistic experience as a whole. I personally have nothing against arcade racers, I may prefer one to the other but it's irrelevant in this topic which is undoubtably focused on the simulation side straight from the title.

It would be wise to not focus on what appeared to be a comment in passing as if it was all they said considering the rest of the post, and indeed the rest of the other page which you've chosen not to mention. Sim fans don't need to lighten up, they just don't want another game like Shift claiming it's gone all sim in it's promotion when the reality is it just wasn't much of a sim at all and thats not a problem in itself, it just went against what we were being lead to believe.

As for the game itself, keep in mind it's a massive sequel, so if thats correct we can be pretty safe to assume it's something we've heard of. NFS generally doesn't come about this time of year, but we haven't really had any details at all about the latest one bar it's being made by Criterion and it's due out this year but NFS isn't on the 12 month cycle anymore so we don't know when it's coming this year, just that it's this year and has been under development for a long period. There's also the possibility a Grid 2 or other track game from Codies is on the way judging by the trends of Dirt/Grids so far. An Enthusia sequel I can't see as being the game unless they're overstating 'massive' as I don't think it's in the general gamers mind at all it was kind of forgotten in the GT whirlwind in the genre. Similarly if it's being made by Eutechnyx I don't think massive is really a fair reflection, it's another game I know most gamers here wouldn't really know about (SCC and FC).

The other questions are those others have been asking, is it really going to compete with GT5 or is it actually not aiming at the same e-petrolheads? Is it really a massive sequel? Who knows.

It could be a sequel to a game that hasn't been on generation ps2 or ps3. Could also may a sequel to a psx game.

Since it probably be the Eutechnyx game I except something of a Lemans racer or else something in the touringcar genre. 👍

I reckon if they took Grid, made the physics good, got rid of the bloom and had a similar selection of cars from previous GTs with damage.

That would be awesome.

Alternatively if Forza was on PS3 that would be awesome, I've been thinking about getting a 360 just for Forza 3.

Motorstorm 3. I bet the competition is quaking in their boots.

Motorstorm? Are you serious? Motorstorm series is so bad that it would be funny if it was supposed to be taken seriously. Evolution Studios need to DITCH this pathetic series and go back to making WRC games.

Dont bother mate. Know someone whos into racing games and thought like you do. He got a 360 just for Forza 3. Soon regretted it though. He got Grid for a tenner and says it's loads better. Says he wished he held back for a PS3 and GT5.

Eutechnyx cant make racing games. They proved that with Ferrari challenge. It looks scrappy, and it handles like all their old games from PS1.

I think that the GT series has always appealed more to people who can't drive in real life, since it is the ONLY racing series that gives them the closest possible experience to the real thing.

I thought about the same thing for 2 months and then i was so upset about thinking about it all the time that i got one.
Very important to say that the comparaison between GT and FM is nonsense...
Take FM3 as a good NFS:S. If you accept that than buy it.
For me i regret it a bit, spending that money, but i already had also fun with the box. Pure (also on ps3) which was bundeled is awesome.
Now i would consider to wait, as gt is behind the door. but if your brain is always teasing you with Fm, and you have the money than go...
My xbox games : bundled (batman lego, pure, crash bandicot), got Fm3 and PGR3 (this one is awesome and cost 5€)

Don't agree in the slightest. I have both SCC and Ferrari Challenge. The graphics are not the greatest, but the physics and FFB are good and more immersive than GT5. You feel a lot more and get more feedback, also the focus on weight shifting is much more pronounced than other games. But to say it handles like games from PS1 is just not right... It's different... but its not bad at all.... I even dare to say the physics are more challenging than GT5. Dont get me wrong here I love the GT series as well, but both games have their pros and cons. I will in the end always end up going back to GT because of the sheer size of their games... and car choice. Still very curious to see what this game will be.

Bought Ferrari challenge when it came out. Played it for about a couple of hours and then got sick of it. The handling was just terrible, crashes were pathetic and the race structure sucked. Horrendous slowdown during wet weather races. Tried to put my finger on where ive 'felt' that handling before, and it was only when i saw that Eutechnyx developed it, i remembered. Hated all their driving games from PS1. If i new Eutechnyx had done it, i would have never got it. Thought it was by System 3 but they just published it. Suffice to say, took Ferrari Challenge back to the shop that same day.

I bet for a Konami release, like Enthusia, because it says that "it will threaten GT5". But it also would be a Genki Racing Game. Who knows. Finggers crossed, because it would be really nice to have more sim racers into the PS3!

Oh no, you did not.

You did not just insult one of the greatest racing franchises of all time.

Play Artic Edge and say that again with a straight face; AE was one of the best PSP racing games ever. So fast-paced and exciting, it was like an action movie.

I wouldn't say Motorstorm was bad, any installment they've all been very solid, but one of the greatest racing franchises of all time is somewhat of an overstatement.

To compare a racing game to an action movie hmmm. I'd prefere to compare it to a motorsport.

The only games I know of comng out are. WRC, Modnation racers, f1 2010, NFS something and is Blur or splitsecond coming to PS3?. That's all I can cone up with and some of them aren't real motorsports and there announced anyway. Anyone else know of any I missed.

A racing game can be compared to things other then motorsport, you wouldn't compare the highly successful Burnout to motorsport ordinarily, but it's still a racing game. Arcade races aim to provide unrealisms in their methods and rightfully so, but as I raised earlier such games can't be compared to GT for the same reason and I still question whether this GT competitor will actually turn out to be in the same genre sub sector as GT at all simply as we have no information at all and no proof.

In short, there's nothing wrong with comparing an arcade racer, like Motorstorm, to action movies in this sense because they aim to provide exactly that, action.

Also, make use of the edit button rather then double posting, it's for the best :).

Ha ha you're hilarious. Motorstorm was the first game I bought for my PS3, and the first game I have EVER taken back to the shop within 1 hour of playing. If a bunch of 5 year olds with the slightest idea of how to make games were let loose they would probably do a better job. The PS3 is a grown up console, and doesn't need childish racing games like this in it's library. One of the greatest game franchises ever? That's like saying a Lada Riva is one of the greatest cars ever built. Fast paced and exciting? Really - the whole series is like My First Driving game for kids.

As you have seen from other post's here, I have to like a game within the first few hours of play or I take it back to the shop. Developer's need to focus on this aspect more. I refuse to let a game 'grow' on me. If I take an instant dislike to it, it's history. Games like Motorstorm and Ferrari Challenge are good examples.

Golfman, you mind easing off the double posting? You could just easily edit your post if you wanted to add on something.

We know that Eutechnyx is currently working on two separate racing titles.

1) A licensed racing series with known cars and tracks, due out late this year.

2) A 'new concept' racing game that builds on some of the customization features of their current titles and features a variety of cars due in early 2011.

More than that I can't say other than they will be announced sometime between April and June respectively. And neither will be a collaboration with System 3.

I don't believe either of these are 'the game' in question. But I'm excited about both of them.

"Destruction Derby RAW" for the win! One of my favourite games from the PS 1, would be great to see that come back, some great tracks, and great fun!
