Looks like just another typical modern circuit to me, with too many constant radius corners where it will be extremely hard to follow the car in front which yet again means that qualifying will be important and all the overtaking will be done in the pits. Having said that i do like the look of that kink that is turn 11 we need more fast corners in f1 even if they are hard to follow a car through them.

As for predictions, it will be hard to tell i think MS will do alright here as he is a good driver and will learn the track quickly but i hope that Mclaren will still be the car to catch and that nothing has changed over the summer break. I am also hoping that renaults typical end of year lack of pace will start to kick in so that Kimi can take the championship.

:grumpy: 30 minutes ... Lol

Anyway, this will be a first for all of the drivers and the teams, some have been playing PS2, some have been watching DVDs of laps in road cars, and some haven't put any effort into learning the course before hand.

It's one of three anti-clockwise tracks in the season, so with that and hot temperatures it looks like being a tough weekend for the drivers.

There are many long, fast corners that will put alot of stress on the sidewalls of the tires. Along with the darker than usual tarmac and high temperatures in Turkey it looks like being a very tough weekend on the tyres.

We really know nothing about how certain cars will behave on this track so we have to wait until tomorrow to see any real indication of pace. We know McLaren and Renault will be fast as usual, and Kimi will be hoping to make some gains on Alonso's championship lead.

The track has a few overtaking oppertunities, and a very awkward corner that could catch a few drivers out in qualifying and the race.

Should make for an interesting, if not exciting, weekend.

Early predictions:
Kimi
JPM
Alonso
MSC

Blake

EDIT: Only in turkey:

Renult's enignes are on there 2nd weekend which is also a hot race , and as much as Hate merc , I would love to see alnoso retire and kimi wins so we can have some more action till the end of the season as the diffrence would drop to 16

I believe Alonso's engine was having some temperature troubles in Hungary and Fisi's was misfiring for much of the race. Renault say they have these probalems under control but it may comprimise this weekend for them ....

Blake

It should be a very interesting weekend. All the teams are virtually on a level playing field so it's fair game for every one.

I can't wait.

This has the potential to be a great race, especially after Hungary with Kimi taking a massive chunk of Alonso's lead, Alonso will be looking to regain some points for sure.

I've played the Turkey track on the PS2 and it seems like one for the more powerful cars especially with that really long back straight. So look out for McLaren, Toyota, Ferrari and maybe BAR and Renault.

As mentioned earlier Renault are on their second engine though and this could easially come into play as the track looks like it eats engines for breakfast.

Bee's Early Predictions

1st. Kimi
2nd. Montoya
3rd. Trulli
4th. MS
5th: Alonso
6th: Button
7th: RS
8th: Barrichello

It's been a nice break in the season. Though I am more excited about this GP than I was 3 weeks ago. The circuit looks interesting.

All that being said it is going to be the Kimi/Alonso show again with MS and JPM up there. I can see MS doing well here and maybe winning (if the tires don't give up).

Funny that :p

The last section is really extremely slow ... probably too slow for my liking, but it could be interesting to watch.

... Webber .... he had pace .... wow ....

24 R. Doornbos Minardi 1:35.367 12
25 E. Toccacelo Minardi 1:36.411 15

It looks like being a McLaren weekend, Renault showing no real signs of great pace.

Blake

Mclaren at the top again, oh come on kimi you really have to win this one there is only 5 races after this one. On average he must gain 4.3 points per race. If he wins this one and alonso doesn't get points then it will only be 3.2 points per race. Just some interesting stats.....
I am also happy that Webber is finally back with some pace, it's been awhile since williams were up the top (Nurburgring?). The only thing that can stop Kimi is the fact that his engine is now also on it's second race.....

It looks like alonso is running a lower downforce setup, he is 2nd fastest in the last sector and is the fastest through the speed trap.

And Webber was mentioned in a speed trap for the first time in ... ever? Mind you it was only the S2 speed trap :p

Blake

It's great to see McLaren on top but it's also great to see Webber up there. I'm an Aussie, it's compulsory to be happy about it.

Ferraris didnt fare too well did they... Webber looks to have a nice car under him at long last and Button pulledi n a nice lap.

Looks like its a McLaren race though sadly...

Sadly? I think most of us will argue that point with you :p

Zonta gets the first 1'25 of the weekend, out driving the McLarens who got a 2, 3, 4.

It's looking like a very good weekend for the McLarens, sadly Webber has fallen back (although his lap was quicker than in practice 1).

What else would you expect from that damn incompetent pseudo " F1 track architect " Tilke.
That guy did more than Bernie and Max together to make F1 boring the way it is now.

P.S. My alias has nothing to do with the next week-end circuit location

I agree

Well Tilke has designed the Chinese and Barahin Tracks as well which were hugley succesful races last year.

So on this form expect this one to be kick ass
:D

Just noticed how well Liuzzi done for red bull getting ahead of the Renaults...

Yes Bahrain was a success , despite of the track, because of de la Rosa.

Nice circuit. That quad apex corner complex is amazing to watch, especially from the in car...one of my new favorite corners in F1...maybe even a new classic corner complex. I agree with you Blake, the final complex is mickey mouse and too slow, but it gives all the high paying VIPs good looks at the cars.

No real surprises, other than Ferrari (MS) being so far off pace. I thought they would be stronger, though never count them out.

Good to see Trulli up there again and good to see JPM up there too.

man its time for another race where did the last three weeks go... lucky i was surfing gtp i would have missed it and wondered why its not on next week...

Yes, that is an amazing complex, it will be interesting to see who will try to take it flat out in qualifying.

The other interesting corner is the hairpin turned chicane just after that complex, I really have a feeling that might catch a few people out some time this weekend.

Blake

It has been forever for me seeing a GP. I didn't watch the last one because I was too tired to wake up for it and there was not a replay of it. I can't even really remember the GP before that . . . it sure has felt like a long time of no F1.
