 đź‘Ť

I read that you can only drive Ferraris at Fiorano, is that correct?
Yeah, they self destruct on other tracks :P

Edit: I got it backwards, sorry! Haven't tried showing up there with my datsun or my kia, so I don't know if the janitor would let us in...

Edit #2: on that note, can you drive non-Porsche cars at Leipzig? Don't think I've tried that either.

Re-post from Ferrari DLC Thread:

Brief Impressions of the Historic Race Cars (non-driving)
I just downloaded them, but won't have time to try them out until later as I need my beauty sleep! First impressions are very favourable. I was concerned about two things - firstly would SMS do something daft with the in game groups - No! and secondly would the liveries be acceptable - Yes!

The 512 BBLM is in Group 4 with the BMW M1 and Porsche 924 GTP. It has 16 liveries which includes the British Racing Green, Pink Floyd one as raced at Le Mans in period.

The 250 GT is in GTC with the Aston Martin DBR1/300 and Ferrari 250 TR. It has 20 liveries including the number 7 Rob Walker team car driven by Stirling Moss at Goodwood in 1961 (Scottish blue) and several other famous ones.

The 250 TR is in GTC with the Aston Martin DBR1/300 and Ferrari 250 GT. It has 20 liveries including several famous, unusual ones - all look good!

The Mugello track has two layouts - Mugello GP = 3.25 miles, Mugello Short = 1.41 miles.

I couldn't find Fiorano in the track list. I remembered that you had to be in a Ferrari so changed to one, but still no luck. I then tried accessing the track list from the private testing function and still no luck. Maybe someone can explain how to get the track to appear because I couldn't select it!

The pack looks very good. I would have preferred more race cars as those are the ones that I will actually race with. Still, I'm very stoked to have the 250 GT, 250 TR and 512 BBLM - excellent choices for the game, with a good range of liveries - I am sure they will be great on the Historic Le Mans circuit and the other excellent classic tracks in the game.
Thank you SMS - very good impression so far!

Edit #2: on that note, can you drive non-Porsche cars at Leipzig? Don't think I've tried that either.

Yes - You can race all cars at Leipzig - but I don't think it is a good track for racing.

The Fiorano track is listed under P for Pista, hence why I couldn't find it. Fiorano is also not a good track for racing as it is too narrow. Too dangerous in real life also so only certificated for testing - there is a high risk of coming off the track, travelling across the grass and colliding headon with oncoming race cars.

Ferrari DLC: Both the 250 versions are very sexy to look at and a joy to drive, but I have to say my favorite is the 355 Challenge. I think this would make an awesome single make series.

Yes, agreed - F355 Challenge must be our first series of 2019 (with an alternative car for people without the DLC).

Haven't got them, try download them later, sure they really stunning. Don't anything about the liveries so least there good. Mugello always like that in MotoGp games, Phillip Island would good.

Sorry can't race tomorrow, have test pack at weekend:D

Round 1 Sakitto GP
BMW vs Escort

Sakitto GP BMW Ford.jpg

After qualification new room because of disconnection issues, Random Starting Grid

Wed Sept Round 1 Sakitto GP.jpg

The connection problems were very disappointing and frustrating - the potential was there for a really good round. There was another problem with the lighting being much darker than when I tested the weather settings - this was compounded by weak headlamps on the Ford Escort. The next two tracks are better lit and I will set the clouds lighter to make sure we can all see our way round the track!

I hope the connection problems don't relate to the new update - it might be that they relate to more people playing the game online following the arrival of the Ferrari DLC content, however most of those people are probably trying them offline.

@Cluck has posted some excellent notes by Casey Ringley (Physics Lead for SMS) which I will copy into the Monday thread later - they show the amazing level of detail and thought which goes into the car modeling. The intentions of SMS to reproduce the original handling characteristics of the cars seem to have been met exactly with the prototype 250 TR being nervous and flightly, eager to start to turn and slightly faster in expert hands - the 250 GT is more stable, slightly slower to lap, but easier to drive consistently fast. (The technical explanation relates primarily to changes in the height of the roll centre caused by differences in the rear suspension). Interestingly this also matches with the scenario of highly skilled factory drivers piloting the 250 TR, but the 250 GT being driven on the road and sometimes raced by gentlemen.

For those of you wanting to race the fabulous Ferrari's we are holding a Historic series on Monday's starting on 1st October, but the cars are so good that I will schedule something else for them on Wednesdays in 2019. I am currently working on plans for the New Year - if you have any suggestions feel free to share them with me. I am trying to focus on cars which are really enjoyable to drive on their default setup and not too difficult to control. There are many great car and track combinations left to enjoy!

I did wonder why I was doing so well in the BMW despite no practice, 1 lap of quali and 2 weeks without racing!

After the race I tested all the new Ferraris, @Sick Cylinder summed them up well. Looking forward to DBR1 vs 250TR as I think they'll be pretty well-matched and equally tricky to drive. I'm in love with the SWB after some hugely enjoyable (and very sideways) hotlaps at dusk at Silverstone Classic, I think I have a new favourite car in the game. Shame it doesn't look like we'll ever get a DB4GT for it to go up against... :( Paging @IanBell – pretty please with carbs on top?

From my brief drive of the 355 Challenge I think it'd definately be worth doing a one-model mini-series on Wednesdays at some point. Maybe something with the road F40 too – it blends the adjustable handling of the older racers with ridiculous Eighties turbo lag, which makes for some good fun. Not sure how you'd theme something like that or give it a back story though... over to you Sick.

Not sure about you guys but I'm really disappointed by the BBLM. Sounds crap so doesn't convey any sense of speed, and there's just a complete lack of the drama I'd been expecting from it. Heard it's well balanced with the M1 ProCar though, so at least Gp4 isn't the graveyard it once was!

Heading over to read the Ferrari physics notes, really love all the detail SMS puts into them.

p.s. will upload some Revival / wedding car pics when I have a minute. Oh, and the current Modern Classics magazine has a rather brilliant article on the MG SV in it...

I remember you going around the outside of me on the bends. You nearly blew my car's candles out. :)

Despite the connection problems I enjoyed throwing the Escort around last night.

@hasslemoff (and anyone else) for a quieter life while racing go to Settings*/Notifications/Pop-Up Notifications. In there you'll find a whole list of things you can turn on or off. For my no distractions silent life I only have screenshot and downloads switched on**.
You still get notified on the main menu but there's no annoying pop-ups popping up.

*Top menu, second from right.
** It used to keep telling me I'd won some trophies but since none have yet been delivered I turned that off too. :dopey:

@IfAndOr Thankyou đź‘Ť.
I only use a small 15inch screen and pop it seems to take a good chunk of screen, I don't mind one or two but when there's a few it's like a bright light taking over the quarter of the screen, or it could be I'm a miserable git :)

Didn't get the quali lap I was after due to miss judging traffic but had fun in the race after spinning on lap 1 and going to the back and had Joe's bmw close behind taking advantage on the straights, did think he was going to nick third as I had a 2 sec penalty.

Had a nice close call as well, would of been a few dents a bmw and Ford .

As we are all pretty much running the same cars, I decided to take the BMW for a spin at the next race location, Long beach. I recorded it for the benefit of those looking for inputs with this car and general racing line.

Enjoy!

I’ve seen bigger phone screens! How do you manage?

Thanks for that DD - very helpful - it sure looks purty at night!

I tested the Escort and BMW back to back last night and agree that the Escort has weaker headlights, however they are fine when the lighting is improved therefore the next two rounds will have brighter skies.

Race: Clear Sky / Light Cloud / Clear / Light Cloud; Race: Clear Sky

Oh, and the current Modern Classics magazine has a rather brilliant article on the MG SV in it...

I'm going to look out for that magazine today!

I second your call for an Aston Martin DB4GT !!!

Sorry what time is the night race from, only see 14.00 race start, qualifying at 16.00.:boggled::boggled:

Edit did some testing set race start too 00.00 track was in darkness, looks really good:D

I had no issues with the lighting but it was however indeed a strange Wednesday this week.
I'm not sure I deserve those three points I've been awarded to be honest, and I'm happy for
them to be stricken off the board. I never even completed the opening lap.

There seems to have been problems with the first lobby and I had been handed a fifth place
starting position once the second lobby was up, that didn't seem right or fair as I was suddenly
found further up the grid than I probably should have been.
Though I appreciate the fact the positions were handed out at random.

I had to abort the race on the first lap though due to two cars severely lagging on my screen,
jumping from left to right all across the track in front of me. Didn't know what else to do really.

Perhaps @IfAndOr can help me with a question, what does it mean when me and Napalm are fully green where most
others are not? Is it a good or bad thing, does it have to do with our connections perhaps. I very rarely experience problems with mine.

Project CARS 2_20180910215633.jpg

I think that's the relative lag to your connection. For example, I'm always green because I have 0ms of lag relative to my connection, and people in Portugal appear green to me because they're under 50ms (i think this is the cutoff between green and yellow). The farther, the worse - americans and australians always appear red to me. So maybe Napalm and you have good connections and live at drinking distance

Perhaps IfAndOr can help me with a question
It's as Tav say's Jocke the colours represent the strength of your connection to each player. There's four colours each split into two bars.
Green is great.
Yellow is good
Orange is not bad but not good
Red is not so hot.

A lower bar isn't necessarily unplayable but it's an indicator.

Distance is usually the main culprit for the drop but a poor connection can also have an effect. And of coarse Wi-Fi is a big offender when it comes to a stable room.

Looking at your list and it seems what you would expect. All are decent with just Harsk being a little lower.

If yours is not full green you have problems!

Here's mine from Wednesday.
Project CARS 2_20180912214020.jpg

I have a new fibre connection which is helping, especially with the uk drivers. Not all are shown but Friday for some reason was red to me, Harsk is on orange. Skip from across the Atlantic is often red to orange. Cano on his Wi-Fi was fluctuating between red and green!
Wi-Fi is not the friend of the online racer. ;)

It would be interesting to know how everyone appears to everyone else.

It would be interesting to know how everyone appears to everyone else.

Mine is quite similar to yours. All UK drivers in green (John sometimes slips to yellow) with European drivers ranging from green (Tav appears to have a great connection) to Friday, who fluctuates a lot. Overseas is always red.

I’m running a wired fibre connection, with stable +150mb upload and download.

Comparative video of the BMW 2002 and the Escort at Long Beach.

1:31.2 - BMW - Left
1:32.0 - Ford - Right

Both laps are synchronised at the start, so it provides a good indication of each car stronger points.

The BMW is a tad faster and easier to drive. The Escort requires wrestling with the steering and bravery to get close to the laptimes the BMW pulls. This can be seen on the video, especially on the first corners.

The Camaro - it's fairly unburstable.

In 1973 James Hunt was invited to compete in the "Tour of Britain" and was provided with a Camaro - apparently he started the event with the intention of blowing the motor in the opening stages - however, to his surprise he found himself in the lead and his competitive instincts took over! He went on to score a convincing victory ahead of many rally and saloon race specialists!

The Camaros always blow my mind (and eardrums) at the Goodwood Members Meeting. They sound like Thor gargling nails at idle (see vid below) then rearrange your internal organs when they fly past at full chat on the straight. That kind of noise you feel rather than hear. Does Buttkicker work properly with PC2 yet @Sick Cylinder ?

Talking of Goodwood, I've finally had time to upload a few pics from Revival and my trip down there in the XK150 Honeymoon Express.

IMG_2507.JPG.JPG

The Jag was an absolute dream – It's pretty enough to get you let out of every junction yet brawny enough to have no problem keeping up with (and occasionally overtaking!) modern-day traffic.

IMG_2479.JPG.JPG

Even the service vehicles at Revival have to be period-correct (pre-1966). This is one if the VIP shuttles...

IMG_2413.JPG.JPG

They had a Fifties hot-rod display this year. This one had particularly interesting exhaust placement!

Cadillac Le Monstre from 1950 Le Mans race. Crazy thing.

and I'm sure you guys will appreciate these...

I can't recommend the Revival enough. Tickets are expensive and accomodation is a nightmare if not sorted more than 6 months in advance, but there is nothing else in the world that compares. If youAll the dressing up means the WAGs enjoy themselves too.

See you all at Long Beach this evening.

Just a reminder to everyone to buy a copy of the October edition of "Modern Classics" which has two superb articles by our very own @joedakiss - my favourite was the interview with Peter Stevens (Top Car Designer) - very informative!

I wouldn't be able to afford to take my wife and girlfriend!

Do you get your tickets free Joe - being a professional journo? And are you doing a write up of the Revival for any magazines?

I enjoyed all the pictures - especially the one of Le Monstre - I saw it and its sister car Petit Petaud (the standard 1950 Cadillac Coupe De Ville at Brands this year. The standard car came home 10th at Le Mans with Le Monstre finishing one place behind (it lost more time stuck in sandbanks than the standard car, which more than offset its extra speed from the amazing Aerodynamic bodywork and special five carb induction system!
