I beat it using a stock Gallardo with SRF (I think I got a 1:40.5 best lap). It also depends on which cars are in front. Basically you should avoid any races with the ZZII.

    Côte d’Azur got me like…

A really challenging seasonal. Lol it’s reassuring that I’m not the only one. Had me thinking I’m inadequate, was doing it wrong, and missing something. I thought 4WD would be handy so I tried the GT-R Black Edition, but understeer was crazy, even with torque split… I also tried the EVO X (4WD for traction and AYC for throttle control and staying within the power bands) but still no luck. Even brought a Countach… Corners are wayy to technical. I might just try the ZZII solution tomorrow.

So true lol, AI is for real this time! A CTR Yellowbird rammed me into the guard rails for no apparent reason, and a Viper shoved me straight into the first hairpin lol. Kinda reminds me of the song Drive on Coins from GT5 haha!

Tried Côte d’Azur with many cars and didn’t get better than third. Used the Audi R8 4.2 FSI and won every time passing the rabbits going out of the tunnel in the last lap.

I got on here to see what everyone else was doing to win the Côte d’Azur race and was gratified to see that everyone else was struggling too. I’d tried R35 GT-R Black Editions, Spec Vs, derived McLaren F1, completely tuned R34 GT-R, Audi R8 V10, LFA Nurburgring, Aventador and FT-1. The best I could do was third place, achieved at the last corner.

I read that someone here tried a Tommykaira ZZII, so I thought why not? RB26DETT, AWD, light weight….it’s got to be a shot, and I tried all the established Supercars (except Ferrari).

I bought one, knew that downforce was critical on this track, so put a rear wing on it and tuned the front and rear downforce to their maximum. I then adjusted the power down to reach the 550pp maximum for this race.

It took me two attempts, but on my second attempt I figured out the handling and won the event. With the other cars, I was struggling to consistently lap in the high 1:43.xxx bracket. With the tuned ZZII, I ran a best lap of 1:41.831!

Tips: drive aggressively because that’s precisely what you get from the AI. They will use you to corner and put you on the wall. If you have a big stack and end up completely stopped, restart the race. You won’t be able to win with errors like that. The ZZII has a natural under steer that feels chronic at times as you’re trying to chase down the hare. Brake and turn in early where possible, especially the section from the swimming pool complex to the second last corner. It’s best if you can apply full throttle while you’re straight, because lurid four wheel drifts under power are spectacular but slow. It doesn’t have the intelligent AWD and grip of the R35 GT-R.

    Good luck!

I see that I was not the only that found the cote race to be fishy. AI push you into barriers, bump you out of the way, and driving cars that are heavy and sluggish (like gtr 07) like they are on racing soft. I had to use the zzii to win and even that was a struggle to gold. Will have to try the toyota ft or peugot to see if that makes a difference.

A comfortable and fun last-lap victory with my McLaren MP4-12C.

Struggled with many other motors though.

Going through my entire pre-tuned premium 550pp lineup. Nothing comes close to podium finish yet. Stuned 587 NSX LM detuned to 550 finally got bronze. FiveEightySeven Stuned ZZII detuned to 550 did not so well. This is going to take some time. RT tuned 1105kg 571pp Spiker and Lotus are next.

Light weight and downforce are what l’m trying now. If Spiker or Lotus don’t do the trick, l’ll try the Nizzle solution… Inifinity and Nissan concepts did not perform any miracles so l don’t expect much from the FT-1. This may be a true ‘expert’ challenge. Good thing is that l don’t need the chip. Positive note: ’05 Evo and WRX are looking sexy anxious at the bottom of my pre-tuned 550pp list. Not going to put the milage on the Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer or Countach.

Expert Cote d Azur SH550 update: focus on light weight.

The RT tuned 1064kg 571pp Lotus Sport350 and Spyker C8 though promising with their light weight and custom wings, performed less than expected results. Lotus, placing 6th in the field, was disappointing enough, the prettier Spyker, finishing 9th, demanded a rethink of it’s suspension tuning. Breaking traction at just the thought of moving my right thumb forward. Yikes!

Next up was the Nizzle solution. No indication of what it’s weight is, online room testing showed a 1500kg minimum weight allowance. But before we get to the FT-1, it’s awd challenger from Acura was run first. Both cars were smooth through both chicanes, in their own (drivetrain) way. But their obvious lack of bhp keep the two of them one slot off a podium finish. It was fun watching the ’06 Corvette and Viper drive around them on the front straight and in the tunnel. I couldn’t ruin their fun ;) Best laps were in the 44s.

I was completely lost before reading here that Mr. Pepps was succesful with a MP4-12C. It’s garaged next to a 458 at 1217kg 600pp. Going against my own preferences, l went on and reduced their hp ratings into the 400 range… yuk!

The Ferrari was begging for a refund of it’s power. More apt at negotiating Azure’s circuit than any other thus far but it’s lap times are foiled by arrant manuvers of the AI… What a jipp!

A Buick Special on pole, with a SLR and XJ220 rounding out the top 3, it as looking like a weak field before starting. Lapping this wonderfully beautiful circuit at 45, 44, 44,… it was looking like another dismal failure. But wait!… there’s a bunch of cars leading me into the tunnel!.. with 2 laps to go?!..

The penultimate lap went by so fast!

      Another 1:45…?

I was leading going into the last turn and starting the last lap… l just don’t know what else to say…

      But another 1:45!?

I’m ready to give up on this cote whatever race. I’ve gone through ferraris lambos, the gsx-r, vettes, vipers. And nothing even close. I feel like I need something light and small like a lotus or a mini or a group but the group and minis are a little on the heavy side. I did best in the Mazda 3 or whatever they call it. I thought about the supra, rx-7, 3000gt or the nsx-r. Enough rambling but damn this ones got me ticked.

    1. Whiteglare

I used a fully tuned (Power, weight reduction) Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 ’86 with the transmission set to 130mph and won by a significant margin. Give it a go.

  9. Divaldo

This race at Monaco is ridiculous. We ´re lucky the prize is just an ordinary color tone. PD sucks. We should be given the option to choose better tires.

  10. SVPSkins

the “Expert Level Non-Race Car Challenge” is a Joke of a race. AI slamming you off track, car bolting off in to the sunset and PP set to 550? Not a fair race if you ask me.

  11. beseiden

Hum, Cote d’Azur. A great surprise, thinking of using the Gran Turismo 350Z RS, a very stable car, always did good with it. When i get home i’ll check it out.

    1. Divaldo

I tried and tried this bloody race at Monaco and realized I cannot win it. 17 seconds behind on the last lap. This is not fair.

    1. scholesy1899

They’ve already gone through the GT5 DLC paints, of what most of these chips are, except the inexplicable LCC couple of colours and odd Arancia OJ Met.
So yeah, you will see colours again, as they’re just going round. So everybody should have a silver chrome by the end of all this.

  12. TheGeek

Broke out my trust ’87 MOGUL Civic racecar for this one. It was not an easy win, but it was a win. Fun car, fun track.

    1. TheGeek

      Mordslust-
I used the MOGUL on Matterhorn, which does allow racecars; the entire grid was racecars, actually.
      Hope this helps.
