It has now been confirmed the series will span over the course of 5 episodes, debuting each Tuesday at 10:00PM. If that doesn’t work for you, no worries – each episode will also be re-broadcast at 1:00AM and 10:00AM the following day on Speed.

I took my 2001 Audi S4 to a NASA track day event. We had two sessions in our own car (there were some BMW M3s, spec Miatas, Mustang GTs, etc) and one in our instructor’s car. Each driving session was for one hour on the Sandia Motorsports road course. My instructor had a 1974 Porsche 911 on slicks, roll cage, racing harnesses, etc. I considered myself physically fit at the time with respect to cardio, but I went to bed at 8PM that night after feeling exhausted due to the g-forces and heat on the track. If the g-forces don’t get you and intense concentration of driving a car at speed don’t get to you, the heat will definitely exhaust you. I have no idea how people drive eight hour stints in those 24 hour races or F1 cars for that matter. I late braked one corner after a millisecond lapse in concentration and almost put my car into a wall. I agree with the post above. You need to be physically fit to concentrate on braking, accelerating, and turning for long periods of time in a hot climate (no A/C, A/C saps away HP…:) ). Highly recommended for anyone on GT Planet with a sports car or sports sedan. If there isn’t NASA in your area, there is probably SCCA. Enjoy and be safe. You will learn a lot more about driving skills and you will be a better driver for it. Just be warned, it’s addicting and can cost a lot of money if you get into it (tires, brake pads, wanting to modify your car or buy a track day only car, etc).

There were a lot of driving challenges that were left out of the 1st episode. There was quite a bit of 370z/GT-R challenges that weren’t shown.

Not too bad, but it’s stupid that they cut people who are faster than their competition. It should be results based, not judges doing whatever they want. Also, the judges all suck. Other than that, it was mildly entertaining.

I was really surprised they cut that last guy. It felt like such a typical American Reality Show moment, just to mess with people. Disappointing. I could easily do without that host, too.

Yep. Forza Motorsports Showdown. I kinda thought that one was more fun. Setup was the next program of its ilk with Trans Am champ guy (name escapes me atm).

Don’t even bother its like every other dumb reality show, crappy challenges. Seriously what does doing a triathlon have to do with racing??

quite a bit actually, you have to be in good physical shape to take on the rigors of auto racing. it’s not for fatties or 100lb weaklings.

    2. funrun

Mind, body and soul work in union, so if you’re a weakling and fatigue physically racing for an hour, you’ll have no chance of concentrating on running accurate and aggressive laps.

Racing isn’t just about driving a car around a track, you have to be both physically and mentally fit, no matter which form of motorsport you’re in. Anyways the show isn’t to bad, I don’t know why they cut the younger guy, but still not to bad, I’ll watch it next week.

Go to a track day event with NASA or SCCA (see my post below) and you’ll understand after one day at the track why you have to be physically fit to be a race car driver. Just think about it, one slight mental lapse (who doesn’t day dream?) and you could have your car into the wall at the track, off the track, etc. In GT, when you crash, you either hear a noise and move on or pay for repairs with “credits”. On a real track, there are always tow trucks, fire trucks, and ambulances standing by just in case.

As long as it isn´t free, I´m going on to watch motorsport on Eurosport and ESPN.

Who cares about a no name-series, when you need to pay more for an episode as for a whole channel in a month?

It was ok. Cool to see gt5 on tv. Looks like I am going to need to work on my conditioning if I want to finish near the top.
