GT Sport Daily Races: Sprint Finish

Gran Turismo Sport will finally be superceded by Gran Turismo 7 this week, but there’s still plenty to be getting on with in the current title — starting with a new set of Daily Races.

There’s essentially three sprint races across the three events this week, with a simplified Race C that won’t need you to break out the calculator for strategy.

Race A will see players driving one of the last new cars added to Sport. That’s the GR Yaris, a homologation special for a racing car that never raced but which nonetheless has captured hearts and minds for its performance and price.

Although it bears the Yaris name, it’s almost completely unrelated to the regular car. In fact it shares only the headlights and door mirrors, as everything else — including the custom bodyshell and hybrid platform — is brand new. Toyota Gazoo Racing created the car as a basis for a much more capable WRC entry, but world events saw the regulations change unexpectedly and the GR Yaris WRC never saw racing action.

However you’ll be racing it virtually this week in a seven-lap race of the Brands Hatch Indy Circuit, on Sports Medium tires. It’s a one-make race, so you just need to pick your preferred hue from Toyota’s racing colors — white, red, or black — and go racing.

Race B is a fairly standard event, with the Gr.4 cars taking on the fictional Autodrome Lago Maggiore’s full GP circuit. It’s a long track, so although front-wheel drive cars are usually the car of choice in this class — which is based on GT4 regulations — a couple of the AWD options might also suffice.

You can choose from any of the Gr.4 cars in your garage, and the Racing Medium tires for the three lap race will be fitted automatically.

Race C is a much more simple affair than usual this week. It’s a Gr.3 race taking in two laps of the Nurburgring 24h circuit — so like a miniature N24 race — but that’s pretty much all you need to know.

While this race usually features mandatory tires that you need to stop and change, or a required pit stop, there’s no such regulation this week. Just pick your Gr.3 car and drive as fast as you can for two laps.

The three races will run through to Monday March 7. At present we don’t know if another set will replace them, so we’ll have to wait and see…
