GTPlanet Member Wins Sony’s UK GT5 3D Competition

Congratulations to GTPlanet’s own Alex Ingram (known as pippin4652 in our forums and GTP_Ingram on PSN), who took first place in the national Gran Turismo 5 BRAVIA 3D Tournament! The UK-based competition, hosted by electronics retailer HMV, came to a close yesterday at their flagship Oxford Circus store. As previously announced, BBC F1 presenter Jake Humphrey was on-hand to host the finals, which consisted of the 10 fastest players from around the country (see more pictures and details at HMV Gamerbase).

Alex, of course, is no stranger to heated GT5 competitions – he was the national runner-up in the GT Academy 2010 UK National Finals, and competed in the GT Academy 2010 Silverstone Finals alongside last year’s winner, Jordan Tresson. As winner of the HMV competition, Alex takes home a 40” Sony Bravia 3DTV and two tickets Madrid, Spain. Congratulations once again to Alex and all of the GTPlanet readers/members who participated in this event!

I love how if someone from GTP wins something, its like a member of the family winning something :) There is a sense of pride amongst everyone

Well, everyone other than the negative sods who whinge at any given chance but thats a small percentage of people..

    Anyway! Well done Alex!

hehe… that he is. he is also able to put up a fast time in a video game in the safety of his parents basement. its a totally different animal driving a real car; or driving a real race car real fast and handling all the very real forces and stresses subjected to a body while trying to do it.

Funny how people like saying that, its almost like showing insecurity or something. This simulation is getting more accurate every single evolution.
In reality anyone who has had the opportunity to try real cars around real tracks after playing the game are always full of praise of it because it all feels so much more familiar than it would’ve felt and there is no real surprises with the wheel and pedals.
I spoke to Alex on wednesday and he was saying how easy it was to drive the GT-R when he was at Silverstone and I drove the SLS AMG in the summer around a track and it felt completely natural and similar to the game. The medium speed understeer the low speed grip, the tyres make more of a difference than the difference between the game and reality. You have to brake harder and later but you soon adjust.
It helps if you don’t give a damn about the physical side of it I suppose they way you use the opportunity.
No point in putting any energy into being negative though.

Not to take anything away from the guy, he’s infinitely better then me, but it looks like he got a bit lucky by barely making it in the semis. Then in the semi finals and finals he beat both guys by over 10 seconds. Or maybe it’s just mass ownage :)

Congrat to’ the winner. He is the fastest.
Sincerly I think Gt accademy finalist should not have acces to other competition. We had same Gt academy finalist for two years here in Italy.

So? That just shows that there is only a handful that are talented enough to nail each turn with perfection and that even those dudes who come back always want to be better than their former rivals. It probably boils down to luck for most of them any way.

No wonder 3DTV isn’t taking off when people look as stupid as they do in that picture wearing the glasses. Still, a 40″ TV for free is nice…but would have been nicer if it were 55″+…

Aren’t there a lot of other things wrong with this game that need more attention than watching a replay?? Seriously, who really cares?

Congrats and job well done!! Based on your resume, I look forward to seeing you win the next GT Academy for Europe… but no pressure.

Seriously, great job, and I hope this leads to bigger and better things for you in the future. Hope to see ya on GT5.

    Congratulations on winning the TV!

That photo is going to be one of those where you look back in the future and think how stupid we all looked in 2010 wearing glasses like that to see 3D ;)

This made me laugh, back in GT Academy I used Alex’s replays a lot to improve and spoke to him in the forums. Well done :)
