GTPlanet Weekly Rewind: Gran Turismo Gives You Wings!

11900698575_ffcc92d0fb_c

There’s a lot to cover this week, so instead of me yapping (which I’ll do plenty of later on) we’re jumping right into things this week. Here we go!

GTPlanet Picture of the Week

Gran Turismo 6

This week’s featured image is all about the world beyond what happens on the track. As mentioned a few times in the past, the environment plays just a pivotal role and it’s time it’s once again recognized as such.

Courtesy of Kurei, this refreshing image was shot at SSRX and captures the brilliance of nighttime scenery with the added feeling of the soothing waters.

Have a suggestion for next week’s featured image? Drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Picture of the Week”, and fill it out with your two choices and they’ll be featured in upcoming Rewinds. NOTE: You cannot elect your own work.

Gran Turismo 6 Update 1.06

Gran Turismo 6

Another update has reared its likeness in Gran Turismo 6 and we are once again here to catalog the changes made to the ever-evolving world of GT6, this time with the newest 1.06 update that is now available and weighs in at a very conservative 295MB.

It introduces the data logger and GPS visualizer tools and a few other things. The overview of the changes are as follows:

Data Logger now available

  • [Data Logger] has been added to the [TOOLS] section in “My Home”. The Data Logger analyzes the driving data stored on a Replay file and displays it in a graph, allowing users to view and compare variations in vehicle speed, acceleration points, braking points, engine rpm values and gear positions.

GPS Visualizer function introduced

  • [GPS Visualizer] has been added to the [TOOLS] section in “My Home”. By driving a car equipped with the “Sports Drive Logger” (sold by Toyota) on a real-life circuit, the recorded GPS data can be transferred to “Gran Turismo 6” via a compatible USB storage media, and then subsequently converted into Replay file in the game. It’s be possible to compare and analyze these GPS data using the [Data Logger] feature. This feature is currently available with Fuji Speedway, Tsukuba Circuit and Suzuka Circuit, with more tracks to be added later on.

Custom Rear Wing option implemented

  • [Custom Rear Wing] has been added to the [External Parts] menu, accessible from the [Custom Parts] options within the [Tuning & Maintenance] section in “My Home”. You can choose a combination of wing mounts, wing style and side winglets. Users can also adjust the height and width of the wing to their liking. (*Please note this feature isn’t compatible with certain cars.)

3DTV compatibility now added

  • A [3DTV] option has been added to the [Display] category within the [Options] screen in the [MENU] (accessible by pressing the START button). A 3D compatible TV is required for this feature.

Adjustments to the Open Lobby

  • From the Member List, it is now possible to see the Performance Points, maximum output and weight of the cars that have joined the room.
  • An “Overall Best” time is now displayed on screen while in Practice, Qualifying, Time Trial and Drift Trial.
  • The minimum value for [Max Power Limit] and [Minimum Weight] has been changed from 10 to 1.
  • The options available in the [Race Type] menu within [Room Settings] of the “Event Settings” screen have been changed.

Other improvements and adjustments

  • The Traction Control System (TCS) which is activated when driving off-track is now used only in sand/gravel pits.
  • The strength of the “Real” option for the [Slipstream Strength] parameter within [Race Settings] when creating a room in [Open Lobby], has been weakened.

As always, keep an eye on our GT6 forum as our community explores and discovers more undocumented tweaks.

GTPlanet Quiz of the Week

Ascari Full Track (3)two

The seventh week is upon us, and the question is and forever will be, how much do you know?

1. What was the first car to receive the Premium treatment as DLC for Gran Turismo 5 despite already having a Standard model present in the game?

2. This fictional racing track first debuted in Gran Turismo, re-appeared in GT3, and hasn’t been seen since.

Clues will be provided if necessary. The official thread is up and running but hasn’t been outfitted with the full breakdown of things just yet, so until that happens be sure to drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Quiz of the Week”, answering in the comments section does not count, and share your answers.

A new Seasonal Event has been released for Gran Turismo 6, which features the Toyota FT-1 Concept at Fuji Speedway in celebration of the car’s appearance at the New York Auto show this month.

Created in partnership with Polyphony Digital and Toyota, the new event has a special reward for the top time: the driver’s replay will be uploaded to the official PlayStation YouTube account, broadcast the channel’s 2.3 million subscribers.

Between April 7th and the 30th, Toyota and SCEA will also be monitoring the #CaptureGT6 hashtag on various social media networks for images posted of the FT-1 Concept, created using GT6‘s Photo Travel mode. They’ll be selecting their favorite shots to feature on their own social media accounts, sharing your image to a wide audience of hundreds of thousands of people.

We also have a dedicated forum topic for you to share your Toyota FT-1 Concept images, so be sure to post them here as well. Good luck!

GTPlanet Vehicle of the Week

Tajima_2012_Monster_Sport_E-RUNNER_Pikes_Peak_Special_73Front

This week’s featured vehicle, recommended to us by Nelsonatormjin16, is the 2012 Tajima E-Runner Pikes Peak Special.

The Monster Sport E-Runner is an all carbon fiber hill tackling machine supported by an all-aluminum space frame. Two liquid cooled motors mounted in the rear are powered by a 650v MLiX lithium-ion battery. Tajima says that he is confident that the technology used on the E-Runner will one day make it way into the civilian sector.

Switching to an all-electric racer was a risk that clearly didn’t pay off for Tajima this year, but there are many rational reasons an EV can be successful at Pikes Peak. For EVs, engineers have the ability to place batteries in any location to help with weight distribution and handling.

Further, the electric motor’s high levels of immediately available torque are great for pushing up a steep grade, which at the top of over 14,000 feet has relatively low oxygen content–an advantage over gas engines. Finally, EVs are great for Pikes Peak because of the relatively short amount of time it takes to get up the hill. (Range anxiety does not apply here.)

However, there are still risks. And although Tajima has won 6 years in a row, his E-Runner failed to grab him a seventh victory.

Victory is the name of the game as usual and if it’s a deserving victory that you’re after and you want to do so while using the proven prowess of a rally-bred sports car, then you’ll want to stop by and see the tune for yourself!

GTPlanet Photomode Competitions

pmcheader_018

We’ve reset the counter for the sixth chapter in the Gran Turismo series and the photomode competition is back and better than ever.

In Week 18 of the Standard and Advanced competitions for GT6 you are to put your best foot forth and show the community just how seriously you take your in-game photography. All you need to know is as follows:

Week 018, Standard: Matte Is Where It’s At! – “My favorite paint in real life is matte, I just love the understated yet aggressive look it gives the right car. So this week spray any car in matte paint and snap away!”

Week 018, Advanced 2.0: Naughty vs. Nice (Head 2 Head) – “The mission is to create an image that portrays a car as either being naughty or nice. I’ll leave the interpretation of how you do that totally open. Here are some definitions to help the creative juices.

Naughty: bad, disobedient, mischievous, indecent, evil, improper, risqué, undesirable, wayward, aggressive, playful.
Nice: Pleasing and agreeable, attractive, polite and courteous, good, precise, skilful, respectful, kind and friendly, refined, harmonious.”

For all of the relevant information pertaining to this week’s challenges be sure to stop by here and here.

Closing Thoughts

What a crazy week this has been. I’ll spare you the gross of the details as I don’t want to bring down the cheer that the Rewind undoubtedly brings, but there is one thing that needs to be addressed in spite of what I’ve just said: Pastor Maldonado needs to go. Now.

I have never seen a more careless threat of a driver that I so often wanted someone to blast in the face. If you missed the Bahrain Grand Prix last weekend – which was the best race the venue has ever held in its entire 10-year tenure – Pastor did, well, he did this:

No words. Which is exactly why I’m going to switch over to talking about The Winter Solider now, and if I could sum it up in a few words they would be words I’m not supposed to use here. Go see it. It’s really just as great as you’re being told or hearing. Next up is Guardians of the Galaxy, and then Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Captain-America-The-Winter-Soldier-Sebastian-Stan

Back to The Winter Soldier, I don’t want to spoil much but the ramifications the events in the movie will have on every forthcoming movie (with the only possible exception being Guardians of the Galaxy) are profound. If you caught this week’s episode of Agents of SHIELD then you’ll already know how profound things have become; a world turned upside-down by any other definition.

Hail Hydra. Until next week, keep racing!

  1. JASON_ROCKS1998

the answer to question 2 is midfield raceway. 1 I think is XJR-9 LM. also I think F5 is great game just a shame its xbox exclusive.

  2. kollosson

I agree TeamCZRRacing The free track seems like a PR stunt, wont see that happen again for a long time, look at Forza 4 and all the DLC car packs, Forza 5 could end up costing 3 times what you paid for it buying content that should have been included from launch when you consider the lack of content to start with….

  3. FilipinoGTUser1

Yay!, finally a Merc CLK GTR in Forza, hmmmmm, should I make a move to Forza while waiting for the Senna Content in GT6 or should I stay with my fellow GTP Filipino users?

    1. TokoTurismo

Being a part of two worlds is always the best thing. :) Besides, Forza 5 get’s “free” tracks DLCs. How cool is that? :D

  4. stupidstormy36

It’s about time Forza got a proper street circuit since the original (never played Forza 2, so I don’t know the track selection well there), and it’s a great addition. Just in time for the race this weekend too! I have Forza 5, but not the XBox One yet, go figure. Just wish it was also available for GT6, as it is one of my favorite street circuits out there. Oh well, at least I have a pretty decent version of Long Beach on rFactor. Baltimore anyone? lol

    1. TeamCZRRacing

Are you sure? With the fact that they’re essentially offering half of the game as paid DLC, I’d have cold feet about it for sure. I prefer my games to be whole before I pay $60 for them, thanks.

    2. TeamCZRRacing

@king Forza 5 is half the size of Forza 4. The other half is being sold as DLC! That’s inexcusable – even more inexcusable than PD’s “broken promises.”

    3. TeamCZRRacing

Toko, PD never had the intention of breaking promises. They’re developing GT7 at the same time they’re working on new GT6 features, which is understandably slowing them down. They’re one-third of T10’s size and focusing concurrently on three – three! – separate games (bug fixes and new seasonals for GT5; DLC, content updates, bug fixes and new features for GT6; and development for GT7). If there’s one thing PD has never done, it’s not eventually patch in a promised feature in one form or another, even it it is an entire game late (here’s looking at you, Data Logger). I agree, PD needs to stop focusing on so many things at once, but all of the promised features will eventually be added. As a diehard fan, you’re supposed to support the developer through thick and thin. At the end of the day, you do still love GT, right? So bear with PD and don’t let the issue tarnish your enjoyment of the game.

  5. crawlerpt

wow, maldonado looked like some idiot players on gt6 online… maybe he has the game & I just played him recently :D

  6. TeamCZRRacing

That’s it. The video of that crash at Bahrain proves beyond any reasonable doubt that Pastor Maldonado does not have a brain.

  7. TRLWNC7396

I wonder…. Will we be shown a live replay of FT-1 from someone racing “us” live?

An interesting idea…. They “CAN” do it…. ;)

  8. sibbystiggy

Still waiting for promises PD made before release of GT6:
    -DLCs monthly
    -track creator
    -The huge number of tracks
    -livery editor

got none of these so far… Gt6 was suppose to be receiving more support than gt5, so far there has been hardly any and no where near as much as what Gt5 had, DO SOMETHING PD!

    1. Steph290

Yup, found myself doing the same thing. That’s pretty much all that’s left to do, and tuning. I’m watching Forza 5 videos and I say to myself, “There’s a company that knows how to sell.” Then back at GT6 videos and I’m like, “but they had the charm & potential.” Why PD, why we no get DLC love :(

    1. Stiltzkin

      Jawehawk:
That doesn’t answer my question. What aspects of electricity-driven cars are not fit to the motorsport?

    2. The Stig Farmer

      Motorsport promotes development.

      Development = better cars.

Give enough time and we’ll have electric cars that can outperform their old-fashioned liquid fuel cousins in every way.

      Also +1 DeathStar

  9. Hentis

I have to say even though I am not a fan of the Xbone but Forza 5 does look good but theres somthing there nagging me about it and I cant place my finger on it. Its not the twat Dan Freenwalt with his ridiculous Only on Xbox can it do THIS! stuff I dont know. its just weird. But i have to say the track looks great.

Im kinda hoping with GT7 on the PS4 you will notice the difference between 6 and 7. Whether it be 20 or 22 cars running around. I dont particularly want a GT7 Prolouge I just want a GT7 and until I either hear an “official” announcement from Either Sony or PD then its GT7 up next for me. Perhaps with GT7 we might see the Red Bull circuit or even China make an appearence.

    1. kollosson

Yeah Greenawalt does it all the time, its annoying, T10 invented laser scanning, didn’t you know? lol He lost me when he started bad mouthing GT at one of the E3’s the guy has no humility. I know what you mean about Forza 5, there is something, I’ve played it and watched the replay and its very nice but there is something you can’t put your finger on, could be the lighting ? but it does not look as realistic as GT6, I think the lighting is the most likely reason.

    2. Zelalem

      @ kollosson
Yes, he talked about laser scanning. Why wouldn’t you talk about it, if you have done the work?

  10. Zelalem

Please keep those FM5 updates coming, because we are all racing fans. You could include other racing games, too. Thanks for the weekly rewinds. Great stuff!

  11. kollosson

You have to laugh though, Dan Greenawalt ‘ with Xbox One we are able to create games that evolve over time, with F5 we’ve added new features and content on a regular basis to improve and expand the experience ‘ Don’t think that is exclusive to Xbox One or Forza, He’s always got to big stuff up like its exclusive to them lol

    1. TokoTurismo

Agreed. Yeah Dan was drunk when he said that. I’ve seen lot’s of games evolve over time, and there not exclusive to xbox either…

    2. TokoTurismo

May I ask who’s needs to calm down here? I wasn’t outraged about what he was said, but was saying other games evolve on xbox and outside of it as well…

    3. TokoTurismo

Ohh, okay. :P Also, my post wasn’t meant to be negative towards you, but meant to explain them. :)

      Cheers

    1. MLRSparco

The fact that they’re on a new console and are still able to put out DLC on time and fix bugs in a timely manner goes to show you how bad PD is.

  12. Primus Ortus

Great work as always T12. Forza5 Long Beach looks like fun – too bad I don’t have an Xbox. I’m with you regarding Maldonado. He never had an inside line there. It makes you wonder if Gutierrez did something to him earlier in the race or if there was already some bad blood between them. Oh, and so much for the new nose modifications on the F1’s. Doesn’t look like it helped Gutierrez from flipping at all…

  13. vr6cas

Nice Rewind this week T-12! Wait, theres a new Avengers coming out? If so my son and I will be going to see that. I just looked up the content that Forza has released since launch and I must say, it’s looks good. And I’m not even a Forza fan. They got Road America, now Long Beach and some pretty nice cars, 50 I think since launch, (Including the LaFerrari and P1) and what did we get, a C7, Hudson, M4, FT-1 and a bunch of wings. Kind of funny. And a bunch of bugs and glitches on the side I might add. Speed it up Kaz!

  14. Amac500

I have seen a worse drive than Maldonado, aka Milla Duno. Ironically both Venezuelan pay drivers…

On another note, I really wish Toyota would have specified if the CaptureGT6 shots could be edited or not, I feel like it’s caused a bit of chaos and confusion.

  15. Streeto

That moment when the lack of content for GT6 leads to them having to fill up the new articles with Forza content.

    Come on Kaz.

    1. Terronium-12

Or, Forza Motorsport has been featured here on many occasions before and I just didn’t find anything interesting enough to report on until now.

    2. liv4hardstyle

Grow up mate, “they” don’t have to “fill” anything. This site has information on a variety of games if you cared to look… Oh and 1.06 just brought new content to gran Turismo, but as you were, keep complaining..
