GTPlanet’s GT6 Track of the Week: La Tour Eifel

Welcome again to GTPlanet’s GT6 Track of the Week, where we highlight impressive creations from within the community. After the tight, tricky Zandvoort replica from Week 4, we’re moving back to the realm of fantasy circuits.

This week, the featured track has been selected by yours truly, and was built by another member of staff: La Tour Eifel, a towering circuit from our own long-time moderator, @daan.

Don’t expect an easy lap here. The opening left-hander has a long, punishing braking zone, as you then start the climb up and through Turn 2. Laguna Seca might build up to the Corkscrew, having it near the tail end of the track, but La Tour Eifel springs it on you early on, as the third and forth corners of the track. Immediately after, a jump straight out of Gran Turismo 3’s long-lost rally tracks keeps you on your toes. A few turns later, you’ve hit the highest point on the track, a tree-lined breath of fresh air before a blind-apex left – followed immediately by an off-camber jump – deposits you on a quick downward run.

It only takes a handful more corners to find yourself back on another forested straight, high above (most of) the rest of the track. Another little jump breaks up the sense of déjà vu before you start the long descent back down, beginning with a serious downhill sweeper that favours high-downforce machines. You’ll hit your top speed on the ensuing section, before hauling it back down for a tricky, triple-corner technical section. One more sharp right, and you’re back at the beginning.

This track manages that enviable feat of feeling like a far shorter lap than the timer would suggest. It’s fun in both road cars and racing machines, either hot-lapping or with a full grid, so hop in your car of choice and take a tour.

Wor, jumparoonies. Have to say, I too am not a jump fan. Little ones (Flugplatz) sure, but these are a bit ‘Ridge Racer’. :D

Club version of this circuit is good for slower cars (450PPs, say) and also eliminates one terrible revealing of draw-depth limitations as you come north on the last-but one straightaway of the full track. Still happens on the main straight.

You’re missing a really fast bend… what if… turn 1 was a full-speed sweeping left, climbing almost up to the bridge? :)

A general chat in the staff lounge about which tracks we’ve been driving and enjoying. Typically punctuated by donuts, of the edible and tire-killing variety.

I know the feeling man, I notice that in these simulators cars make jumps and land without tearing their suspensions apart or having colossal damage, quite unrealistic when an almost 2 ton car can do that and land without much fanfare is crazy. Quite confusing that the course creator doesn’t have the Toscana dirt road anymore to build rally courses, these jumps might be more at home at such a course design.

Yeah, the jumps don’t add much. Not sure why the general obsession with jumps. Great track otherwise. I’m all for getting a little air (a little), but they seem a little forced. Just my opinion.
