GTPlanet’s GT6 Track Of The Week: Thixton Circuit

We’re a little late this week, but here it is: another custom track to add to your collection, courtesy of the Track Database here at GTPlanet. It’s a bit different than most of the others we’ve picked over the past few months…

Flat tracks get a bit of a bad rep ’round these parts, as they tend to be squashed replicas of existing tracks, eschewing the rises and falls that give a track character. With that in mind, we’ve selected GT Academy finalist @R1600Turbo‘s original creation, Thixton Circuit.

Loosely based on a real location, what Thixton lacks in elevation changes, it makes up for with plenty of passing opportunities. Clear sight-lines, along with substantial braking zones, combine to create a lap that breeds close competition.

That lap starts with a surprisingly quick S-bend, before a few third-gear corners slow proceedings down. A short straight allows for an upshift or two before the anchors go back out for a right-hander, followed by an even-tighter right-left. Through that, a slight kink distributes the car onto the back straight, where peak speeds will be reached.

The second half of the track starts with my favourite section: a triple-apex right that feels like a distant cousin to the Nordschleife’s Miss-Hit-Miss. Sliding to the outer edge of the track, you have ample time to move back to the right in preparation for the increasing-radius left that’s fast approaching. Nailing the apex here is crucial, as the exit feeds into a high-speed section. The final turn of the track requires patience with the throttle, as a late apex is crucial for the best start to the next lap.

If this sounds like your kind of circuit, grab Thixton here!

Nice, though a 1/1 scale would be better. Seems to be a lack of 1/1 scale courses. Will definitely try it out though.

Umm, wow. Didn’t expect this honor! Thanks for the share, and by all means check out my other circuits if you are interested. I am a fan of Castle Creek myself. :)
