Polyphony Digital Cancel GT5’s Lancer Evolution Time Trial

Gran Turismo 5 users logging in today will have been greeted by the following announcement:

“Notice: Cancellation of Seasonal Event

We have discovered a problem in the Gran Turismo 5 Seasonal Event, “Time Trial No. 35 – 500PP Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution: Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Time Trial” that was available from the 3rd May. The availablility of this event has therefore been restricted for the time being.

We apologise for this inconvenience.”

This message refers to the Lancer Evolution Time Trial from May 3rd and will leave some gamers scratching their heads. However, there has been some heated debate on our forums as some of the top times were found to have been set through less than honorable means, initially through drivers shortcutting Turn 6 on the run up to the Corkscrew and then more recently by players driving into the pitlane exit and bypassing Turn 2 completely!

However no specific reason has been given for the event suspension, so it remains to be seen if the corner cutting is the catalyst for it. This situation has arisen before, in round 2 of the first US GT Academy – resolved first by replacing the circuit and resetting the event before, ultimately, the round was cancelled completely.

The Time Trial in question only has 6 days left before it was scheduled to end anyway and we do not yet know if the event will return, amended, before then.

  1. UnHoly XXIV

wait, there is a corkscrew turn on Laguna Seca??? I though it was just an ‘off road’ portion of the track!

  2. flamingchariot

I’m sorryAnother_jakholeI have no absolutely no Idea about whom you are referring old chap lmao. Point taken dude.

  3. JackC8

Considering how many times stuff like this has happened in the past, PD really needs to make sure you can’t cheat before they put one of these time trials out there. Thousands of people spent a huge amount of hours trying to put in a great time, and now all that effort is completely wasted because PD couldn’t spend a couple of hours checking if corners could be cut or pit lanes could be driven down.

    Very typical.

  4. Pit Crew

youngun you do realize we are talking bout the latest time trial, not something that happened 18 months ago. as someone said PD assumed everyone would play honestly so game was never setup to ban anyone who “got over” on games flaw.

    1. Youngun

yeh i no, lancer trail was a good one ruined because people pick out the flaws and exploit them, just like the sls prize trial way back. but 18 months ago then didnt think to set anything up because they thought they didnt need too unlike activision who have cheaters in the past 4 games so the enforced it from the start, Pd could but would be unfair to start banning now. GT6 should have something set up as not everyone plays fair

  5. blasos

The GT series is slowly falling apart. This is what happens when you put money as your priority. It could have been so much better, but the wrong path was chosen.

    1. DuskTrooper

It’s only a f’up seasonal? I don’t see how something so trivial can lead to someone to say that the Gran Turismo series is “falling apart”.

    2. Judo man 1pon

I agree with that stamens but I believe that PS is still the purest driving experience to date.

    3. Flagmo-T

I agree Blasos, and I have said it before – And this is the thruth, like it or not – GT5 is great, but Come on Fan boys, It’s not the only one out there – Iracing is giving what you pay for, and they deliver what they said they will and on time – Either you guys are to young or just to much in love, that you can’t be honest about the reality –

The Academy Part shouldn’t be pushing the updates/ further developing/DLC at all as it does, can’t you see that ? otherwise we would have more new or updated old tracks in the packets – It’s a great feature, but not the main idea about GT5 for must of us, which i have, with so many other waited for in ages, and still it’s just the feeling of having a little polished Race Sim, that is missing a lot of the Content that we were use to have :o)

Capitalism is my main concern with this Game, it’s a gold mine – But hell they all seem to follow that path in Gaming – Release a ½ game and let the rest be in small parts, so more money can be gained from it, as long as we have the Fanboys we will succeed with it – and you are there believe me They are laughing and having great fun together with Nissan that gets all the commercial value tsk tsk :P

  6. Pit Crew

respect is earned in fair play. cheating is reprehensible and unforgivable. to bad PD cant take back the credits earned.

just cuz game has a few flaws, that players manipulate doesnt justify the action, and should not garner reward. honorable gamers play straight up, take their lumps and come out swinging next time should they fall short. cheaters learn absolutely nothing except how to beat the system. we got politicians for

    1. Youngun

Credits are pointless too take, so easy to earn now adays and Experiance would be worthless to take too, banning is a better option but still pointless to start enforcing it 18 months after release, taking off online is easiest now but players so but noted…. and shamed

    2. Quakebass

Or simply a way to take down the cheated times; that would seem the easiest, and least likely to fail.

    3. Youngun

How do u check all the times tho, only top 10 have replays and even if all times record, thats allot of footage to go through so not quite easiest

    4. Quakebass

Simple answer: update or patch it in. If they can do it for the top 10, it’s nearly just a simple copy-and-paste coding update; it’ll have no downsides, either. And if they hire or move about 2-5 employees to be “leaderboard administrators”, it won’t be very challenging… just looking at 1-5 minute replays split between around 3 people would mean about 60 replays checked per hour, and in a 5 hour work period, thats around 300 replays per day, more or less. The internet is an amazing thing.

    5. flamingchariot

PD should have a “death squad” that comes round to your house recquisitions your PS3 locks off your internet priveleges and murders your pets and sells your family into slavery if you cheat lol… just sayin.

    6. Youngun

i’d rather the 2-5 staff just stick to dlc and gt6 instead now, its been 18 months, im not expecting much (forza aint been out long, few months down the line…. it will be out of ideas). ur maths is off, 300 per day? aint enough, over 50,000 people in the trails every 2 weeks, yes only a small percentage cheap but got to treat everyone fairly. plus 2 events and multiple account holders etc…. but yeh, tracks need better penaulty coding to invalidate the lap

    7. Flagmo-T

C’mon Guys – We are living in a technical coded ERA – PD could easily create a APP that can run a replay and get data the right or wrong Data in sec’s – They just need to do it, and be smart about it- because this kills the joy of Racing anytime ..

If you can cheat in GT5 – then it’s dying quickly – End of story.. Oh ya Hahaha But in GT6 it will Bla bla bla SHot up!!!

  7. i have a flat

R.I.P Carroll Shelby…again…because I can…i will come on here and post comments about black ops 2 if I want…

    1. another_jakhole

      You’re intelligent. /s

No one said you can’t ever go off-topic IN THE COMMENTS SECTION. But to think that GranTurismoPlanet should not post about GT related news, and instead, has to post about a automobile/car legend’s passing, it doesn’t make sense.

Oh, and you’re such a rebel.

    2. HKSBro92

I would drive a few laps around the Nurburgring with a supersnake in honor of him but sadly GT doesn’t have it so I”ll use a Cobra.

    3. another_jakhole

That’s true, it would be nice, but I was only trying to point out how ignorant the guy we’re replying to is being. He’s pulling a bwx.

    4. another_jakhole

Only when they say something along the lines of, “i will come on here and post comments about black ops 2 if I want…”.

  8. add

    @dazzmeister
So you think all top 250 drivers are cheaters
I had place 198 and did not cheat buddy

  9. bigguy733

I have been using that pit lane for single player events for a long time. Always thought it was pretty funny watching it on replay. :(

  10. TokoTurismo

Why couldn’t PD just redo the whole time trial by bringing along an update to fix those turns the cheaters have been taking, instead of cancelling the whole event. Like they did with the SLS Top Gear event. Hope their next game would be better to fix a lot of things…

    1. BlindZenDriver

I’m sure they would have fixed if possible within the time frame but things take time to do right. Releasing a fix would call for lots of testing.

    2. another_jakhole

“I’m sure they would have fixed if possible within the time frame but things take time to do right. Releasing a fix would call for lots of testing.”

      EHHHH-Xactly

  11. Strunz1098

PS3 Network should copy Xbox MW3 and if found cheating they shall be banned for the next million days. PD assumed there will be honest racers. Do not blame PD blame those cheaters.

    1. TokoTurismo

snoopybg? Defending cheaters and blaming the game? Now I’m reading comments waaaay to much nowadays.

    2. Tvensky

…thing is, real world allows you to do A LOT of bad stuff! You can do it, but its forbidden by society!

    3. flamingchariot

Snoopybg I presume you are being humourous old bean and riffing on a pimp line? If not PD should ban you for being so purile lmao…

    4. BWX

They didn’t ”cheat”, they took advantage of a poorly tested game. People who use strong active steering are the real cheaters. GT5 wants crappy drivers to cheat- that’s why it lets the car drive itself on so-called time trials. Ridiculouse and pathetic.

    5. TokoTurismo

^ Then I guess you cheated as well BWX if your saying, “They didn’t ”cheat”, they took advantage of a poorly tested game.” >:)

    6. another_jakhole

Let’s stop replying to bwx. For crying out loud, all he does now is intentionally try to get on people’s nerves, along with a handful of numbnuts :) who only post in the comments section to start trouble.

  12. mister dog

Nice i was waiting for my 200% login bonus, after i got back from my holidays and on the day i have it there goes my 2.000 000 credits…

I want my money back PD! :)

  13. jaytmtb

This isn’t the first event I’ve seen with this blatant cheating of cutting across the grass.
Why doesn’t PD set the penilty right so this does not happen?

    1. blksentra2

I remember there was an event at Suzuka East Course using NASCAR stock cars. People were taking advantage of a glitch where they would drive UNDER the track with a 16 sec lap time. I don’t remember if they cancelled that time trial or not.

    2. BWX

That would reqire work, not the 2 minutes of throwing a seasonal together. Therefore it won’t happen.

    3. Quakebass

Whilst ignoring BWX, I’ll reply as realistically as possible; because GT5 is an unfinished product, and that is that. I’m sure these issues wouldn’t be there if GT5 was finished at release. I truly don’t know why PD hasn’t been testing the track penalty boundaries – can someone put this in the feedback section? I’m all out of votes.

  14. Tvensky

I dont like people who cut corners, they must be kids, cant be mad on them they just dont know how to drive..
    and
I dont like that PD cant finish the damn game :) there is only 30 tracks in GT5, cant they just make penalty in every corner possible, BUT NEVER MAKE invisible walls like in Top Gear test track, its totally ruined by those walls!

anyways! PD, just take a pencil and paper then go to GTP forums, put everything you consider is needed and put it in game.. how hard can it be… :)

    1. Quakebass

So true; it would seem easy enough to find all of the bad penalty borders, though I don’t know what it’d take to fix them. I’d like the invisible border gone, too. Maybe even get rid of some of the tire barriers and cones (not the necessary ones actually used in the course, but the ones by the edges of the runways), so there’d actually be a point in including the word “Test” in the name “Top Gear Test Track”.

  15. RobDoggy05

If anyone could tell me what camera setting he used in this fantastic photo, I will buy you a virtual chocolate :P

    1. FishyJuice

You’re referring to me? The grey one with the orange-y sky? :P

Panning mode 3, 1/60, F/45, warm filter + editing in GIMP.

  16. flamingchariot

MMMMMM I did wonder how those ridiculously fast times were possible when I was only able to graze half a second here or there off from my first go with DS3. Noobs, its a fact of life gaming now with cheaters – not that I should have to accept that because I play fair – WTF? I was going to get my wheel out today to get the gold thanks you spoilsport cheating bastards!!!!!! PD should just ban them from TT in future if they are repeat offenders they spoil it for everyone else.

    1. another_jakhole

I hope PD goes the strict route and bans them. That way it won’t hurt the thousands of players who didn’t cheat. It’ll send a message.

    2. DuskTrooper

Whether an online game or offline, you can’t play any console game these days without cheaters. That’s just the way it is.

  17. Tao

Unless PD is not able to, they should just award the one driver with the best time who didn’t cut corners.
By the way what do U get for these time trials if your 1st.Any 1 know?

    1. blksentra2

The server only saves replays of the top 10. Who I’m pretty sure all have cheated. It would be impossible to figure out the fastest lap time of drivers who didn’t cheat.

    1. calico

Nobody said they stuck to the pit lane maybe they entered the corner in the pit lane and slid across onto the track at a faster pace than is possible to take the correct lone on track.

    1. f1_stig

respect, bragging rights, and being able to say “I’m the best” but that is only if you do it without cheating

  18. SkylineObsession

Some people obviously have no shame in cheating. Obviously they do it to make up for their lacklustre driving skills. :D

  19. Froudeybrand

Why would you bother it’s only a game after all and pd aren’t loosing any money etc different if this was a gt academy stage or something.

    1. BlindZenDriver

Having done all sorts of on-line games I can say from experience some people take fun in simply ruining things for others. Take this cheat some may do it to get a good score to brag about and others will do it simply to tarnish the game. It’s sad that it is that way but some people are simply idiots.

  20. Pit Crew

Carroll Shelby did alot for american hotrods and autosport in his time, some even ask for dlc iterrations of his cars on this website. Don think jordan minds us going off topic to pay hommage to him. Yes lots of people died this week, and carroll shelby was one of them. RIP Carroll Shelby.

    1. flamingchariot

Never ever take the piss out of tractor tuners! Carroll Shelby was my hero he introduced the speed limit in the UK when he drove the AC Cobra full speed in the 60’s on the M1 (150mph+) – classy!
It caused a bit of a stink – it certaintly wasn’t cricket.
The Cobra is still one of my dream cars and given the choice I’d have one over a modern day supercar. He even put Enzo Ferrari’s nose out of joint when he raced the Cobra fastbacks in the Le Mans and won. Chicken farmers of the world unite! RIP. Its a shame there are no true legends like that anymore as everything is money money money and pro’s.

  21. warpkez

I gave up on this one because the penalties seemed too random, cut one corner this lap and next lap get a penalty for the same action.

The odd duck was being able to merge into pit lane to cut across the long left.

    1. BlindZenDriver

Why cut a corner at all – at least two wheels must be inside the white lines always.

    1. Dazmeister22

Haven´t you seen the pic of the gold Evo ? That is GTPL Amo and he is cutting turn 6. He has all 4 wheels completely off the track and in the dirt or would have maybe 0.1 secs after the pic was taken. Please don´t try sticking up for people like this who will literally try ANYTHING to be at the top of the leadeboards. Saying he was on the “razors edge” is ridiculous. So was everybody else who managed to get in the top 250 but only a handful of drivers resorted to cheating to improve their times and compensate for their obvious lack of pace and talent. I think it´s a shame the whole TT had to be cancelled, it would´ve been far better if PD developed a way of disqualifying the the people who set their times by cutting. I mean disqualify their times altogether and not allow them to set a time in that TT at all and for the repeat offenders maybe even ban them from a couple of future TTs until they learn how to stay on the track.

    2. doodlemonoply

What I mean is that if you look at the replay at a different part of the turn, I saw only part of the tire still…… you know what? You’re right, sorry.

    1. DuskTrooper

The death of Mr.Shelby has nothing to do with the Gran Turismo series or Polyphony Digital, therefor there shouldn’t be a news article posted for such.

  22. Fisha695

Can’t you do the same thing in the snow one? Look at one of the top replays for it and the driver cut a massive section of the track.

  23. vrossi

(I finally got gold in an Evo VI)
Why do these shenanigans ALWAYS happen on the U.S. tracks?(remember Indy?)

  24. CaptainHarlock

Well some people are always going to look for shortcuts. I thought some of those times were cartoonishly fast.

  25. Leo0308

i don’t really understand the mentality of a person who is willing to spend hours of their lives on these time trials. Just do a single lap, get the gold prize money, and go back to your lives people!

    1. Kesl

I’m with you. And. Real news is, Carol Shelby dying. Not that some time trial on GT5 is corrupt. Again. Surprised are we all that PD F’ed something up. Cause. As we all know, all of us here anyway. That PD screwing up never happens. NEVER. EVER.

    2. another_jakhole

      To each his own. ^^^

I don’t/can’t spend a lot of time to prove anything to myself or others when it comes to Time Trials :)

It doesn’t mean the challenge isn’t enjoyable to other people.

    3. Quakebass

Some people like to compete and see where they stack up, and some just do it for the money. Whichever is the most fun for them. As another_jakhole said, each to their own.

    1. TokoTurismo

No one hates you. At least you had the bravery to tell the truth. :) Now that PD knows about that, lets hope GT6 will fix that.

  26. brumbies1

Son of a …..Just spent last 3 days ,20 different Evo’s.Up till 2.am then work at 5 got home 1pm this afternoon spent up until 10 mins ago fine tuning my RS 03 to get me into 1:36’s.Had a 1:37.1 something LEGITT and some F…NNN WANKERS spoi it for the rest.Good call on cancelling though.

Do I bother with the snow trial….. are there corners to be cut…Will it be a waste of my time again.

  27. RobDoggy05

This comes as a shock to me, I earned my gold trophy the good old fashion way. And at times I nearly throw my control at the TV when my wheels touch the grass and my lap time turns red… GRRR!!!!

  28. DuskTrooper

Unless you can’t drive worth crap, I don’t see the need to cut turn 6. It’s a very simple turn, that can easily be overtaken.

    1. Raaj85

i dont think people cheat to get a gold. a gold time is simple. i think they cheat to get to the top of the leaderboards…

  29. Lambob

… and Nissan crew stares at utter disbelief at GT-Academy winner John TT LeGoon , as he tears across the pits at 290 km/hr …

Diablo 3, May 15th, goodbye GTplanet for quite some time, but thank you sincerely, for making GT5, my definitive experience , and choice PS3 game.

    Until GT6 all!

  30. Flagmo-T

For me it was one of the most interesting TT’s, because of the Possibility of having The right car to race in, so it wouldn’t end up being unfair because you didn’t had the RJ2 or couldn’t buy it ( I still don’t have it, I can’t find it)

I like the fact that PD narrowed it down to only Mitsu Cars, then it was OK for me to not be able to reach the TOP on the List!!

Because it’s often a special Car that has the speed if the PP is set to a low amount, with Low grip tires = RJ2 :P

I really don’t get the that some people are Cheating Hmm – PD should be able to band Cheaters from being able to attend the TT’s in a couple of Rounds

    1. Toyinster

Don’t look for the RJ2 because you wont find it – make sure you keep an eye out for the 2J though! ;-)

    2. another_jakhole

“PD should be able to band Cheaters from being able to attend the TT’s in a couple of Rounds”

That would be a great idea, actually.

    3. kekke2000

Not a very great idea. Just fine tune the illegal areas for some tracks and you cant cheat. Time saver :)

  31. Christhedude

just read that the TT at laguna seca got cancelled due to heavy short cutting. I dont understand why PD doesnt approach short cutting like iRacing does. As soon as more then 10 – 15% of the car are of the track / in the dirt, the lap should be invalid! – or implement a stronger “dirt” tyre physics, that will keepa hot tyre dirtier for a little longer = loss of time

    1. Flagmo-T

I agree totally Bro :o) It has to be Hard, otherwise it’s just getting boring You know – that’s why we love a Simulator Isn’t it ?

    2. Quakebass

Or implement a way to temporarily disqualify or ban users from the TT’s, or a way to delete the track-cutting times. It would seem simple enough.

  32. Amac500

By passing Turn 6 is dumb and any one who wants to play with that little honor are a disgrace to racing. But if you are coming out of the pits there is nothing wrong with tuning the access road in turn 2, and again that’s ONLY if they are coming out of the pits because that is what is done in reality. If you are doing it by just breaking for turn 2 not coming out of the pits then you suck, but out of the pits is fine. However I do think it is wrong to do the pit thing in a time trial scenario, only in race. Doing it under time trial is cheap. The out lap should just be disaloud at Laguna Seca and you should be auto driven out through the access road in turn 2. Just like how at the Daytona infield road course you should be driven on that inside access road inside turn 1 and through the chicane, one of the many problems withte daytona road course but I won’t get into that, it’s a whole other convo.

    1. WilliamsRCN92

I personally think none of the pitting should be auto-pit. You should pit manually and get penalized for breaking speed limit (50 mph)

  33. Jump_Ace

This is just too bad for PD. They need to do live racing with refs/judges watching each car to do this right. Didn’t they learn anything from last year? I wish I could run things for them, then it would get done right.

    Jerome

    1. mistersafeway

Hey, it does make sense guys! Wait, do Polyphony have 10,000+ employees sitting around doing nothing all day? I forget…

  34. Toyinster

As there is no need to enter the pits in TTs perhaps pit lanes could be disabled. Given the circumstances I think PD have done the right thing here.

  35. AFS

This two time trials are definately one of the hardest i’ve played in this game… i followed a weird set up that was shared in the forum & it did help me to get a Gold timing but just… not those fantastic timings. And i was surprised how hard the 2 races are & after getting gold, there is no gift car ticket rewards… hahahaha… compared to how easy the A Spec races are, can get Gold in the first try… & after that you get 2 gift car tickets… though i got a standard R32 GTR & a Mine’s GT-R R34 that is not useful to me, at least i can sell away for cash…

I was really repeatedly trying the Leguna Seca Time trials for days & days just trying to get a Bronze or Silver… it was that difficult. I hate the circuit… it is very tough! Hahaha… Maybe the comfort tyres are to blame…

It really is the most difficlt one in a long time… hahaha…

    1. opelgt1969

I’m down to 2:11.??? in the Chamonix West driving my “Edge” Camaro (drives like a lead sled)without cutting corners. This cars fun in the snow. I just wish you could use snow/dirt tires on more cars.

    2. HuskyGT

      @ AFS

I know it doesn’t matter anymore, but the secret was in the ballast. What made the difference for me between getting Bronze and Gold was just taking most of the weight of the car to the rear. Everything else was left stock, except for a few temporary upgrades to increase power to 350HP.

  36. Foxiol

I got my gold in that one and it was quite hard actually. I always race as it should be not cutting the track and was hard to get the right setup for my car. I used the Evo XI with the white lines in the side (Rally art perhaps? can´t remember the entire name lol)

Nice work PD. Cheaters gets nothing!

    1. HuskyGT

It took me a couple of tries too. I also used the Evo T.M, but it didn’t work for me. I then tried the Evo X, but it was worst. I found the Evo 9 to be the best one for the test. That’s how I got my gold.

… and btw, I don’t know which of those guys took that picture, but AWESOME JOB!

    2. FishyJuice

HuskyGT, thanks mate! I’m chuffed to have my shot on the front page… for the 2nd time… lol. :D

    3. Foxiol

Yeah HuskyGT i had the same “problem” it was even harder with the Evo X (can´t pass with it only with the T.M). Didn´t try with the IX because i have it with the RM.

      And great picture FishyJuice.

  37. BlacqueJacques

No big whup for me; cheaters are always in the mix; I just do it for the enjoyment, not a prize!

    1. Flagmo-T

To get the Gold wasn’t hard, but to get a time under place 100 is very Hard Hehe – The gold spots were easy in opinion on both actually.. But i really did like these 2 TT’s .. :o)

  38. Serjury

What is the point of participating and competing if you can’t do it legit? I’ll never understand the cheater mentality..

    1. sikbeta

Gotta try as low as possible I guess XP

Golded it with an Evo X and for a tiny ‘1XX difference, glad I did it before this happened :D

  39. HuskyGT

I knew it! Cheaters!!! I feel so stupid for praising that guy in first place. I’m proud that I made it clean through the first 1000 places with my almost stock Evo 9.

Kudos to everyone that played fair and enjoyed the event! And thank you PD for showing that you do care.

    1. jimantonic

Give a man a fish, and he can feed his family for a day, give a man a competition, and he can cheat his ass off to try to get to the top.

  40. Normalaatsra

Glad to see they take serious care on the leaderboards, even though it wasn’t an important event like GT Academy.

  41. Zuel

I take this a good thing. The drivers that cut or cheat to get the best times show PD whats needs to be fixed. The one thing this drivers may not understand is that their PSN tags are logged. So they may or may not have a chance to run for the gold.

  42. Ironbash

PD should implement something similar to what t10 did whereby any movement on non-track ground beyond 3-5 seconds fully slows the car down. This would pretty much eliminate corner cutting.

    1. varmintx

I hate that stupid fly trap implementation. It completely ruins a couple of places (Indy in-particular) where your car could have a serious problem when hitting the grass that you would have to get out of. Instead, the car just freakin’ stops. Sure, it helps prevent cheating, but at the expense of single player which is all I care about.

    2. XxFineDriveFDxX

      @varmintx
What’s so bad about the fly trap implemating in Singleplayer? It gives autocrossers and timeattackers the proper time, instead of cutting some turns, like in GT5. Which, I think, should be all tires on the pavement, anyways.

    3. TokoTurismo

I’m okay with having sticky grass in tarmac tracks. It’ll give developers and fair players a more fair time trial and leaderboards times imo. Just don’t put in rally and rally tracks though. :)

    4. varmintx

      @XxFineDriveFDxX

I already explained why and the examples you give are still really multiplayer since you’re competing with others for those times. If you’re truly just interested in improving your personal time, then you know when you go off-road in a way that’s advantageous to you and can nullify the time yourself. The point is, when in an actual race, sometimes you go off course by accident, you’re pushed off by a competitor, or you’re swerving to avoid an accident, but instead of having an exciting moment where you have to keep your car under control under unusual circumstances, the car just stops.

  43. Jawehawk

Can someone please give the cheaters a proper beating? Send them to the hospital, and let them think about it. F’ing useless and pathetic people.

  44. Escort mk1 yum

Lol, that dudes in the pit lane, dam it, I loved this event too, I had I good time too :( bloody cheating w….rs

    1. researchALLwars

THIS. Why do they want to give corner-cutters a shot a becoming a Nissan-sponsored race driver? Shouldn’t we have to stay ON THE TRACK?

    2. Dragonthing

Why would anyone who plays fair ever get recognition for doing so? PD has made it clear that’s not how GT5 works…

    3. R1600Turbo

Good thing about GT Academy rounds 1 through 7 don’t really count and are only for bragging rights. So as long as it’s straightened out for Round 8 (actual qualifying round) then it’s really no big deal.

    4. Azura

Well I’m sure PD will be looking at the top replays for round 8 anyways so the likelihood of a cheater making It is basically impossible :p

  45. MSTER232

PD are not at fault for this corner cutting issue. It is simply the temptation for us to cheat as humans is too great, and we can’t resist being the best at everything, even if it means that we have to get there in a way that is not fair to others. Of course, not all people cheat, it’s just the small minority that has to spoil everything.

  46. awr117

Cheaters will cheat. But PD has had years to correct this issue and they haven’t taken any steps in correcting it. Do they think it will just magically go away?

    1. Famine

By “haven’t taken any steps”, I’ll assume you don’t mean the introduction of red laptimes (indicating unfairly-achieved laps) in this generation of GT game, the v1.08 and v1.09 updates fixing the SSR7 break out (http://www.gtplanet.net/gran-turismo-5-v1-08-update-fixes-money-glitch/ http://www.gtplanet.net/gran-turismo-5-update-v1-09-brings-more-bug-fixes/), the v1.13 update fixing the TGTT shortcuts while resetting the leaderboards for the Seasonal Event (http://www.gtplanet.net/gt5-update-fixes-top-gear-track-new-seasonal-event/), the update which reset players’ cars when they broke out or attempted to break out of circuits or, for that matter, the changes to US GT Academy listed in the article.

Seven million playtesters will find bugs a lot quicker than any development team and several thousand unscrupulous players will exploit them. They’ve found one here by pushing the boundaries of the circuit and PD have, seemingly, taken steps to correct it…

    2. awr117

These are the same issues they’ve dealt with in the past. Release after release. It is the same thing. So yeah, even with those updates….they haven’t learned a thing. They can’t seem to get it right.

    3. Famine

Ignoring the fact you’ve now changed your argument from PD not doing anything to PD not learning anything, what exactly do you think this issue shows that they haven’t learned?

Laguna Seca is unique in that the pit lane exit both cuts out part of the track and is accessible from the track before it – this is a feature of the real track. The pitlane is a valid driving surface. It is a unique situation that only having millions of playtesters would ever reveal – the game has been out for 18 months and this is the first time this exploit has appeared!

Every time a track limit exploit is discovered it is patched – but of course players can cheat themselves in A-Spec by simply removing the patches (as people do to beat the X-Challenge). The most recent fix was to reset player cars once they had broken out to render breakouts inconsequential – which doesn’t apply here simply because players are using a valid driving surface – and that itself would imply that PD have learned that they don’t have to patch every invisible barrier on every track.

It’s nice to see that they are taking steps to fix things and quickly – they’ve pulled this less than 24 hours after the first pitlane-cheater scored his top 10 rank – rather than ignoring the game in favour of what they’re currently developing. Compared to what support other developers like Infinity Ward give to their games once they’re out, I’ll take PD’s response please.

    4. Dmarc_Atl

Maybe if its so easy for you to find short cutss and glitches maybe you should become a game tester and be the guy that do away will all glitches in every game from now on.
Im assuming english isnt your native language so there might be a misunderstanding but either way, games have glitches theres no such thing as a glitch free game. And it takes the players to find a majoirty of them ( hence betas ) .Theres nothing to be learned on PD behalf regarding this.Glitches are a part of games

    5. Famine

Don’t know. Either PD don’t believe the corner cutting there is a problem or they don’t regard it as corner cutting.

In either case a “Report User” button on laps would be nice.

  47. TokoTurismo

Wow this is really sad for PD to do something like this. Way a go cheaters… Is it that hard to play fair?

  48. saracen DT4

i agree 100% with you si-UK banish the cheats @Gejabo they cut because if they stuck to the track they would be last

  49. SavageEvil

Like the saying goes, give them an inch and they’ll take a mile. This is why you try to make sure things are locked down because there are always those who love to bypass fairness all in the name of being the best….if you cheated how could you be the best; I can taste the irony in that.

That event was actually interesting to me, not too long of a course to go around in a 500PP car and it was a fun car too, on my second try I made it from 39,xxxth place down to 6,xxxth with only a second differentiating the two lap times. They need to set up a leaderboard big time for every course like FM has, so I can go up against all the world has to offer. That alone would keep me occupied as I have a load of different cars in one PP range.

    1. MyFavoriteGame

That is a very snobbish and arrogant statement. I hope the guys over at PD don’t share that cocky prideful attitude. It never hurts to look across the fence and learn a thing a 2 for the competition, this is applicable to every industry.

    2. another_jakhole

I only agree with Maddens Raider about not copying FM’s style. I can’t really explain it, but yea.

There’s a lot that GT needs to learn FM, just not … the style.

  50. Gejabo

Sad that they need to do this.

I really don’t understand why peaople cut corners, or use the pitlane.
    Sad little kids!!

  51. Lewis_Hamilton_

I was leaving this one til late, but it looks like now I won’t be able to enter or earn those credits thanks to a few people who lack sportsmanship, and resort to any means in order to win.

Shame the actions of a few can ruin something for the many.

  52. Danlisa

Seems odd to cancel this event this late in it’s life especially considering the corner cutting on this track has been there since day one. Why now? If that is the reason.

  53. Si-UK

Cheats….always trying to ruin this game. PD should take similar action of other game developers and start identifying cheats and blocking their IP address banning them from accessing the games servers and stop them ruining the online content for the majority of us.

    1. L8erBaby

Ruining CONTENT for US? They’re ruining the leader boards, nothing else! Are they ruining anything else? No, then its not ruining content.

    2. Progress823

Actually it does ruin content: they have to take time away from doing more important things to fix a glitch in the game that some jackass found so that they could be faster. Smh….

    3. calico

PD should fix the problems so as people can’t cheat then there would not be a problem to start with yet another locking the door after the horse has bolted. And to the op only six days to go out of 14 days is not a small percentage it’s nearly 50% of the total time we could have played it for why don’t they get things right from the start.
