PlayStation 4 Slim is Real: Watch it Boot Up

What a year this has been for both games and hardware. Sony finally acknowledged the development and existence of the forthcoming PlayStation 4 ‘NEO’, otherwise referred to as “PlayStation 4.5” and “PlayStation 4K”. This left a number of interested parties wondering whether the original model would be downsized to compete with the newly-released Xbox One S.

Originally speculated upon several weeks ago on behalf of Macquarie Securities, analyst Damian Thong detailed the possibility of Sony introducing the variant model when speaking with the Wall Street Journal. There was little reason to outright disregard the forecast, as slimmer models are historically a part of the PlayStation brand. The evidence of these prior revisions supported the claim, even though Sony declined to comment on the rumor.

Now it appears that the slimmer model is all but confirmed through official channels. Originally spotted for sale on UK classified listings site Gumtree (since removed), a local retailer claimed the Slim was due for release in three weeks time.

The early listing has since been purchased, unboxed, and displayed courtesy of Twitter user shortman82. While there was initial skepticism of the claim, Richard Leadbetter of Eurogamer’s own Digital Foundry has visited the lucky buyer — confirming that this in fact the real deal and not “some sort of 3D printer thing.”

While the original video was taken down before we could bring this news to you — which if anything at all only further confirms the situation — a mirror video has surfaced on iKmRmi’s YouTube channel. The video shows Eurogamer’s Chris Bratt and Wesley Yin-Poole discussing the slimmed-down machine, and the duo hopes to release more information on the model soon.

Perhaps the most interesting takeaway from all of this is in a little over two weeks Sony is holding a PlayStation Meeting event in NYC, where ‘NEO’ is expected to be officially shown for the first time. With the PS4 Slim expected to contend with the Xbox One S, it would be the perfect opportunity to announce this as well.

Stay tuned for more on the PS4 Slim and NEO.

Based on what i heard and the fact that the box are written in English, French, Portuguese and Arabic is from UAE.
Games over here are usually leaked before it’s official release but for a console hardware is not a common thing considering it takes months before it reaches here. Xbox One S for example would be released here this December while some other parts of the world already got it last month. PS4 took nearly a month from it’s first release in North America to come here in middle east.

PS4 looked like 2014 Godzilla. And this one, while not ugly, reminds me of a 1954 Godzilla somehow, hehe.

Since I dont have a PS4, I would’nt mind to have something with a PS4 hardware inside even if it looks like a Pontiac Aztek!

Honestly, I couldn’t care less what it looks like. I just wanna know all the specs and whether there will be backwards compatibility.

not real look at the pics! big and uneven gaps on buttons, its seatting on top of real ps4 and you can see it is not even and square, look at the quality finish around usb port! 3d printer quality and finish just like the xbox one! ?

When the original was already pretty damn slim considering the hardware inside, it’s hard to go much slimmer. Hell, the new Xbox One S is basically the same size as the original PS4.

  5. Toysuprahot

While the Xbox One Slim is still bigger in width and height, except on depth than the original PS4 topkek.
