Following up on last year’s competition with the Electronics Sport League, SMS continues their bid to blur the line between the virtual and real worlds with the announcement of this year’s eSports competition, and have announced silicon giant NVIDIA as the sponsor.

The event kicked off just a few days ago, the Challenger Series will be available worldwide and the league will consist of two divisions: PC and console, the latter combining the PlaySProject CARS_NCS Badgetation 4 and Xbox One into a single bracket. The leagues will consist of pre-registered teams with no more than 5 members each. Each driver and their team will participate in a series of ten rounds taking place throughout the year coinciding with real-world events.

The ten rounds will be divided into two splits, summer and autumn, and a transfer window will be available during an interim two day period between the two splits, allowing teams to adjust their roster if necessary. The goal of each round will be to set the fastest lap times with a vehicle running a fixed setup on the leaderboard before the event expires, and once the events have finished points will be awarded for finishing positions.

Naturally, the winners of the NCS will be those that have scored the most Challenger Points by the end of the autumn split. The Nvidia Challenger Series is currently in Preseason Draft and teams have until the 1st of April to register for the competition. For the full list of rounds and everything entailed, you can check the schedule for the event here, while team registration is done here.

I think it would be prudent to update this article with the details John and I are referring to, for the fans and potential participants.

It should also be said the championships have an individual Championship for non team participants. It’s not necessary to register for that. You just take part in the time trials.

Well done SMS. It should also be noted that there is an open championship sponsored by Logitech and that the NVidia championship is fixed setup, no tuning.
