Stunning Gran Turismo PSP Gameplay Video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kn5rBftQ1b0

Since GT PSP was announced yesterday, we haven’t really gotten a good look at what this big, little game actually plays like.  Sure, the first screenshots are impressive – but to see it running at a full 60fps is a completely different story…  Although the driving skills (as usual) leave something to be desired, you’ve not seen Trial Mountain look this good since Gran Turismo 4.

For all those commenting on the physics and the fact that the car look to be very arcady: The person playing the game, who appears to have never played a GT game before, is constantly handbreaking round even the smallest corner to perform a drift. He didnt use the brakes once or even follow any consistant racing line.

The game looks stunning, the physics, if you take the time to examine them look spot on. We just need someone who is compitent to play it.

A simulators physics should look real all the time no matter who is playing. Anyone can make any game look like it’s physics are good by driving a certain way but no every game can make physics look real for all drivers.

forza 3 looks like a piece of shit. that is so pathetic that anyone is comparing a hand held to a console. it just goes to show that Microsoft developers(or first party developers for the red ring of death machine) are mentally challenged. it makes me sad that we are comparing “the best looking game ever” to a psp game. its pathetic. I’m just sad. call me a fan boy sure, but facts are facts, and Microsoft sucks with graphical performances.

Ok, Show me one Microcheap representetive or T10 employee who posted anything in here comparing Forza 3 to GTPSP? Oh wait, none have. Stop being a stupid fanboy.

LOL this game destroys forza 3.

    more cars
    more tracks
    best music
    better graphics

Better graphics? are you kidding? Way to be a stupid little fanboy kid.

Grow up mkay? Forza 3 would have about 100 times the polygons per car then GTPSP and then real time lighting over everything. Also, the game has full damage and roll-over with undercar rendering/damage. It is a simple fact that a single car in Forza 3 is worth atleast 2 in Gran Turismo 5 and no, I did not mean to say PSP. (want the truth? you can visually see the polygons in GT5 pics but I have yet to see a single polygon ridge in any one of the Forza 3 screens)

And last but not least for X fans, how can you really compare Forza3 to GT-PSP?!!!!! I’m not a fan of Xbox or Microsoft and I’d never buy an Xbox but when you do so you prove that PS3 and PD has the upper hand…if you really love your consoles you should show it more respect and compare it to GT5 on the PS3 when it comes out.

    Cheers all

Sony fanboys started the comparisons so maybe you should learn to read.

While having 800 cars and however many tracks on a handheld is good they are still missing so much detail that Forza 3 delivers and physics that no GT game can touch. It has been widely considered by many sim racer reviews that Forza 3’s E3 build (which is about 2 months old now) has physics that come close to matching top PC racing sims.

Also, where are these gameplay videos of GT’s so called damage? all we have seen is a CGI movie thus far.

  3. Marooned

    Ok lads,

Been reading all of the above comments and had a few of my own

1st @ jonno: MGS yes might be the best looking game on PSP but it’s not a racing game, compare GT-PSP to any other racing game for the PSP or any other hand-held console.

@ Zimmerd: If you use tuning I’m sure the handling will be something else as all of us GT addict know ;)

    @ STEPHEN M: +1

As for my own comments now, I’ve been playing GT since GT-1 on PSone till we ended now with GT5p which gave us a hint how GT5 will look like, what was shown on the E3 was beyond amazing, the variety of cars, rally tracks, damage, day/night and weather updating with real life, add to that KY comment that they reached a point where they can release GT5 anytime they want but they just want to deliver worthy product. All of that just shows how much they care for this product and want it to be the ultimate racing simulator. 2 years ago I read the rumors about GT mobile and couldn’t wait for it to come out, from all the videos I’ve seen and the E3 ones along with KY interviews the game really took hard work to come out looking this way, KY said it “It has the same graphics engine as GT5p and it has 800 cars along with 35 tracks” I say to that, that’s way beyond GT4. Well to me tho the videos quality are not that good and clear but it looks amazing it’s more than what I was expecting from PD, let’s just wait till October and we can tell ourselves if this game really worth buying or not. As for those complaining about the camera and the handling of the car. I would say, give the game to any of us GT freaks and we’ll show you how to drive those track =) that’s guy really don’t know how to race the game, I agree with Webbo +1

And last but not least for X fans, how can you really compare Forza3 to GT-PSP?!!!!! 4. STEPHEN M

people should complain when the games are released! when you have played it…then make criticisms! instead of complaining now when it aint even released! i think it should be an awesome game though…also gt5!

  5. Nadz

The funniest thing is that if GT was never around and came out for the first time this year. Everyone will say how shit it is! Sub-par physics, boring racing environment. They would only praise the graphics and the game as a whole would get a low score

  6. Steven

I agree with Simon. 4 cars on track is crap!!

Good call about the 800 outfits analagy. I along with many others will no doubt buy this. But GT games have lost their touch. Gt4 was nothing but a dodgem car race. Prologue has fixed it a bit.

By the way is it just me or do other people notice a gap between your car and other cars?

I’m always on bumper cam and notice that when a car bumps into me or vice versa, there seems to be an invisible barrier around me! So frustrating.

  7. Webbo

  8. MarcoM

If you read the interview with KY on Eurogamer you will see that GT mobiel has a drift mode. Maybe the player used that in the movie.

  9. Northstar3914

Why is it that whenever there is gameplay footage the player can never drive? Is there some regulation that says you have to be a crappy driver or something?

It looks good for a PSP game though.
[sarcasm]Which who would have thought PD pushing the limits with graphics[/sarcasm]

  10. NTX

Waste of time IMO. People want GT5 for God Sake, so many delays…its just crazy. Forza 3, here we go!!

  11. Zimmerd

    @ Vincent

I hope it’s only the camera.
I have this weird feeling the car slashes its back out way too often,
with a kind of arcade-game feel..

  12. jonno

Probably the best game visually on PSP, though MGS: Peace Walker could overtake it, that looks wicked too. I think a scaled down GT:4 would be freakin’ awesome.

  13. MarcoM

^ The buttons on the psp are not pressure sensitive. It’s on or off. So you will have to live with the automatic modulation.

I don’t think it will be that much to a problem though. Remember it’s for the psp not for your racepod.

4 months waiting. Good good :)

  14. NA1NSXR

I wonder if the PSP buttons are pressure sensitive because I don’t see myself having much fun if the trottle and brake are just on/off like in the video (with the modulation being seemingly automatic). Also, I despise the linear tach which I find difficult to use on cars in which I do not shift at exactly the redline for. It also makes it difficult to judge how much headroom you have before bumping the limiter. I hope there is an analog style alternative…I thought the GT1/2 display was fine.

Other than that I am psyched. I don’t really have any issue with a 4 car grid and I’m glad they didn’t waste time or resources on noob features like damage. I’m also fine with trading reflections for a few extra FPS on the PSP hardware.

  15. heavymetal3k

Too much bashing going on in here. This game looks amazing for a psp game, better than a lot of ps2 games look. Also Forza 3 looks impressive but Gran Turismo 5 looks even more so.

  16. T.Jones68

  17. CRUCIAL

And this is just on the psp, and it’s already better than Forza 3. Just wait till you see what they will do on the PS3

  18. Unkr3a1v

    WTF?
This is so boring, and I am not a bit interested in this game, as many others,
dön’t waste your time and work on GT 5, PD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This game has nothing to do with the original idea of gran turismo! (The Real Driving Simulator)!
And….the driver sucks, how about trying to brake before entering a corner???

Sry, but I’m really pissed there isn’t more news aout GT 5!!
I bought my PS3 only for GT5!!! Now I’m here playing this f****** demo (Prologue) all the time!

I think I have to smash my PS 3, if the release is pushed to 2010!!!

P.S.: Is anyone here interseted in this GT PSP thing?

    Greetz, Fritz

  19. larry

    Haha

Xfarts are comparing that crap plastic game with PSP GT

    hjaaaaaaa

PSP GT has better looking cars and has 800 cars and also more track

shit box 360 owners…haaaaaaa and their dead franchise –FLOPZA

  20. Dom

Come on now lads. Don’t even begin to compare GT PSP with Forza 3. The visuals are very impressive for a handheld, by far the best we’ve seen from any racer on PSP. And with the feature set being comparable to GT4, it’s an incredible achievement. It does indeed look like a scaled-down version of GT4. But if you look at the pixel-perfect screenshots they released, you can clearly see the limitations of the system. We’re only dealing with ‘272p’ here, and it can’t do anti-aliasing.

The video shown above is pretty low quality, plus it’s not direct feed, so the blur of the camera plus YouTube compression is essentially giving us free AA. When you have it running on your PSPs, the aliasing will be far more apparent.

So yeah. A scaled-down, lower res GT4. I doubted it could be done. But they’ve done it, and it’s amazing. Couldn’t ask for more.

Forza 3 on the other hand is running on a console generation ahead of GT4. The bump in resolution, texture quality, lighting and polycount is massive. Comparing F3 to GTPSP is ridiculous. The only game it can be compared to is GT5, and eventually we might be able to do that.

  21. Watevaman

I like the HUD on this version. It seems to give maximum space to the actual visuals and doesn’t clutter up the already tiny screen with unneeded info.

And if I may say so, I think this looks on par with GT4, if not a bit better.

  22. anon

I find it funny how blatant forza fanboys feel the need to come over to the gran turismo forums and say how bad a PSP game that ISN’T a PROPER CONSOLE to start with and how much better FORZA3 is, My feelings are that I saw the forza 3 trailer and at first i thought it looked rather good but then watching it again after the GTPSP and GT5 videos were realised I was far from impressed with forza3 as to be honest it looks like FORZA is going to be about on par (probably worse) than GTPSP and I feel for all the people who said forza would stomp GT5 as the trailer for GT5 is streaks ahead of FORZA3.

  23. Igniz248

Impressive. I doubt PD wasted time on this. Looking at the E3 trailer for GT5, it is “clear” that they have been hard at work for GT5. I mean, Kazunori himself said there would be damage and we saw it. That tells me that PD is listening to the players. So no, i doubt any time was wasted. As far as I am concerned, PD is making a product which will be a showcase for them, for years to come.

So again, patience people. They are not deliberately delaying it. It is better to have an excellent product at the end, rather than rush out an 80% built game and then again have people complain about it.

  24. Guano

why do the people who demo these games always suck so bad at them. It’s like watching a 5 year old play.

  25. Rafy

Looks like poliphony digital focus much of the energy or resources for this particular product and not for GT5.

    What you think?

  26. Nib95

This is actually interesting. As evident this graphic can challenge the 360 and Forza 3. Considering it also got more cars and tracks than said game shows Blu Ray is the new media format.

  27. Aderrrm

Along with what other people have saying: the driving physics of that car in the video look awful.

And don’t get me started on how much the camera view moved.

  28. George

Who wants to play a racesim on a handheld? I have a good idea though, take the PSP cost along with the GT PSP game and get a 360 and Forza 3. That way we have something fresh to play over the next few months while GT5 is delayed again.

  29. Simon

4 cars on track… Seriously. A polished up GT4 is Tourist Trophy… Remove the bikes, add the cars (which to get 800 on a GB is really not going to be hard. Imagine Ryu in street fighter having 800 different colors to choose from for uniform, same concept) and you got GT PSP. All these years i had so much hope. Even Gran Turismo prologue was supposed to deliver unbelievable driving experience, but come on. Comparing equally, in Forza you can put it in neutral and just ram up the tires for the hell of it (& don’t you say you never feel like burning up the wheels from time to time). The AI in GT is a let down again, even in prologue. Yeah it may be improved, but from day dot its fine on Forza/Grid. All in all I just feel let down. Being a fan since early teen thinking that it will change, it will change… 10 years later, its the same thing! Seems as if Gran Turismo is just going to turn into the best ever looking racing game, that you don’t want to race.

  30. Blitz187

Dont understand why he doesnt go into the setup menu for tuning… or did I just miss it somewhere along the line? Im curious to see how much tuning is actually available… :)

  31. Vincent

I’m guessing the appearance that the car is disconnected from the track might have something to do with the camera not being fixed behind the car (which I found annoying, I can’t stand when a game camera moves so much).

  32. Justin

The game looks great and seems to play like a GT game I can’t wait, whoever is playing really sucks though have you never played a GT game?

  33. Obli

Impressive and all but I am slightly disappointed that GT PSP will have consumed valuable resources at PD that could have been used for GT5 (sorry for my selfish views!).

  34. Zimmerd

    It looks cool,
    but it’s a gran turismo 4 updated.
    + the physics don’t look that real…
The car isn’t connected to the track somehow..
although 800 cars is a good thing,
promising a lot cars for gt5 too.

  35. demon

Well it is cool for psp, but all these cars and tracks are just ported from what was gt4 ps2 or psone so yeah, I would have rather had more tracks then more cars,

@xbot = I have played Forza 3, I am also a very good friend with the dev team at turn 10 and if you think that there are only going to be 400 cars you are tripping, just wait ?

  36. reaperman

well it certainly is good to know where PD has been wasting their time. I’m assuming no g25 support on this one.
