Red Bull Attending Gran Turismo’s May 15th Silverstone Event, Offers Contest for Tickets

Red Bull is highlighting their involvement with the Gran Turismo series on the company’s official blog, days before the big “15 Years of Gran Turismo” event to be held at Silverstone this Wednesday, May 15th.

Their most famous collaboration with Kazunori’s team at Polyphony Digital, has, of course, been the development of the Red Bull X2010, involving legendary Formula 1 aerodynamicist Adrian Newey. Red Bull drivers were also heavily featured in Gran Turismo 5, including nine-time WRC champion Sébastien Loeb and three-time Formula 1 champion Sebastian Vettel.

Red Bull will join the nine automotive manufacturers confirmed to be participating in the May 15th event, and suggests their cooperation with Polyphony Digital will continue:

“If that’s what Red Bull Racing’s capable of now, think of the cockpits you’ll be able to climb into in Gran Turismo’s future. We’ll see you at Silverstone.”

The company is also offering the chance for a “superfan and their guest” to attend the celebration at Silverstone. Access to the event is extremely limited and closed to the public, and will likely be the ultimate experience for any fan of the series.

To participate (you must be a resident of the UK and over age 18 to win), follow @RedBullUK on Twitter, and tweet answers to their three GT-related questions (be sure to include the #15YearsOfGT hashtag in your response). The winner will get to meet Kazunori Yamauchi, drive a lap of the Silverstone circuit, and watch the “GT Academy Champions Race live”.

It would be great to see a GTPlanet member win the competition, so start tweeting.

If you don’t win, don’t worry: GTPlanet will be attending and offering live updates throughout the Silverstone event on May 15th, to keep you up-to-date on all the announcements as they are revealed.

Thanks to Amar212 for the quick tip!

This event should be in Tokyo. It’s 5:37am there now. I’m in Oz and were an hour ahead. Gotta wait another day for the announcement. Gets tiring waiting for the rest of the world to catch up.

  2. Jump_Ace

Still no information on what time the event is? I can’t seem to find a time online anywhere.

    My Dream

    GT6 Cross platform.
    Release PS3: November 2013
    Release PS4: June/July 2014

PS3 to be upgrade of GT5 +new tracks, cars and at best, optimsation of code.

PS4 Version to feature hyper realistic visuals. 60FPS/1080P.
Gran Turismo World, Online server based game mode akin to Test Drive Unlimited type worlds. (like Kaz dream for GT since 2004- onwards)
    -Extensive car modding.
    -vinyl and livery editor.
    -Car clubs

I do feel strongly about the Gran Turismo open world aspect as the 8GB GDDR5 in the PS4 is a monster. Its unified (unlike PC GPU ram) and so its a beast no dev has EVER worked on.
Its 100% possible with the PS4…
Except, thats dependant on the time management and workforce behind it…

  4. Blood*Specter

Malc01, that sounds feasible and it makes sense. I think the racing game (don’t remember the name) previewed along with the PS4 beta engine a few months ago will serve as a very good teaser for what GT6/7 will provide on the PS4 platform. I would suspect that GT6/7 will be spectacular in terms of content (tracks/cars) feel (physics) and of course looks.

I know we are all somewhat put off by PD’s lack of content as previously promised. But one thing we do know is they listen. And this site provides them with plenty of feedback. I understand it doesn’t always feel like to us, but it is true. GT6/7 will be bad a$$ed……BOOK IT.

  5. Malc01

    So my educated guess ;p

GT Academy 2013 Mini Game Launch – end of May

Inc Silverstone mini curcuit – the one they use in the live testing…

After finished GT5 LAST DLC – with the rest of it and new Academy cars (maybe earned like 2012)….

    GT6 – ON PS3 – Before end of October….

PS4 Launch – would Sony let PDI confirm a date?? – or use this event to do so?… Between Thanksgiving & Xmas

GT7 Prologue (a test of the PS4 capability etc) Spring 2014…

  6. kollosson

@ infamousphil, PD is renowned for quality, GT5 is the first game in the franchise to have DLC and updates to the game, i thought the DLC was great, agreed GT5 was released ‘ unfinished ‘ still they managed to update the game to a version that was close to what it should have been on release. May i remind you of GT1 to GT4, these games redefined the racing sim, culminating in GT4 which has to go down as the greatest racing sim ever made, the assets of which we are using in GT5! how many other games can you name that are using last gen assets ? The only thing PD have done which some people seem to think is a negative is put back release dates but that is because they want the finished product to be as close to perfect as they can get it and even then we traditionally got a prologue version to keep us happy, which it did. GT5 is the first GT that fans had niggles with, including me, Kaz was not happy with it, i can’t see him letting that happen again, i think GT6 will be stunning.

    1. infamousphil

Well… since you went there ;) l get the sense that you think l don’t give PD and Kaz the credit they deserve… and l got nothing else to do at this moment.

Just about 20years ago, man, what a run, l was in the midst of collecting data for mine own (ghetto) driving sim… lots of data compiled. Then came Gran Turismo. I don’t know about you or anyone else, but while GT has always been a great way for me to relax and unwind, l do look at it under a mmicroscope, as if it were

    2. infamousphil

      … mine own.

I’m going to enjoy the game as much as you will probably. But l’m not going to pretend that the jewel of the genre is flawless, either. Hold up there… how long have you been GTing?

  7. Dry7123

Gosh, props to Amar for his wealth of information regarding gt5 for these wonderful 2.5 years

  8. gtone339

“Redbull announces that they’re going to sponsor Peugeot’s 208 T16 Pikes Peak on their endeavour to Pikes Peak”.

So it could relate to that or something else? Better not be X2013 fake as concept! Needs to be a real manufacturer this time!

    1. forzaturismo

It ll be great if GT6 include the Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak!!!
      and also DTM 2013 cars!!!
      WEC 2013
      WRC 2013
      ….

  9. HuskyGT

Is it only me or these last days have been horribly long? I’ve never felt so excited since I got GT1, GT2, GT3, GT4 and GT5.

You know happy days come when a new GT title announcement is close.

    1. TokoTurismo

Agreed. I never met GT5’s announcement before. But this time, I’ll get to experience the excitement that is GT6, and its this week! I’m so excited! :D

    2. Quakebass

I got into GT a bit late, but I remember the hype build up for just the DLC’s and updates. I ended up looking at older news and saw the hype for GT5… I saw this coming. It’s not quite to a point where everyone is happy, as there’s disagreement on what console GT6 will likely and SHOULD be on…

But I think once it’s released/announced GTPlanet is going to go back to it’s positive and supportive roots. I think negativity has been popping up here since people have just simply gotten bored of GT5 after so many years, especially since it’s a bit lackluster in comparison to past titles in terms of replay value and thoroughness in it’s content…

    3. infamousphil

Yup. Though it has already begun with the PS3/4 debate, This is when l get ready for the HYPE for cars, tracks and gizmos for the game. Throughout the series, we have seen fantastic stuff come and go.

I, personally, don’t dig DLC. IMO, DLC means a game had been released before it was finished and PD is notoriously at releasing bad product when they are rushed.

From misspellings to corrupted discs to broken promises. It’s enough to drive the modest of us to heinous acts against the machine ;) SO… don’t buy into the hype their going to spray us with their mouths agape. My only hope is to survive long enough to enjoy the final product.

Maybe l should cancel my GTPlanet membership until the FULL game is released ;)

  10. Maney911

GT6 will not be on PS4 for at least 6 months after its release. This is because Drive club is a PS4 launch title and Sony wont risk damaging sales of a new ip. It would make no financial sense to release 2 first party racing games at the same time and as Drive club has been announced GT6 will not be on PS4 (for the time being at least.).

  11. Blood*Specter

infamousphil said: “Road America, Sebring, Watkins Glen and Road Atlanta.” would be nice for GT6.

    Please God, make it so……please?

  12. Youngun

Maybe last years champion ship winning car will be in the game. With a few F1 special events, and less of the X1. Wouldn’t mind the Redbull Drift Team cars either……..

Hope someone will record it and upload it to either Ps.com or GT.com.

    1. Amac500

(Sigh) F1 can’t be featured in Gran Turismo because of the incredible ridiculous price tag for the rights that Bernie and the Clowns have placed on it. The price is so ridiculous that if they were I add F1 we would most likely not get any other series or tracks or anything because there would be no money left.

    2. Quakebass

There’s things on the forums about this. I’ve heard it’s somewhat similar to EA’s massive asking price for a Porsche sub-license, just it isn’t being blocked by a software company, rather the organization is the one at fault.

I’m nat as clear as to how CM has access to it, though… I read up on it, but I’ve all but forgotten what I’ve read… :/

    3. Swagger897

Because CM was asked to do it, being based in Birmingham (before F1 came to the US) they were easyly (or however it’s spelled) accessible to be able to be with a car and model it all.

Plus, CM should be the only ones who can make it. It would be a Pitty to see two companies make great cars with pillocks creating the multiplayer….

    4. SpeedyishOlly

What do you mean ‘before F1 came to the US’?. I think PD could model individual cars but not have them racing each other. The teams have rights to the cars, Bernie has rights to the sport/racing. I’m not sure though.

  13. tpark103

Wish I could attend. Funny I how Silverstone just so happens to be the address for my EU playstion account.

    1. HKSBro92

It’s the same thing. Sebastien is basically the European variant of “Sebastian”. Kinda like Christopher and Christophe

    2. Flaco13

^^Really? As far as I know “Sebastien” is the french spelling, whereas “Sebastian” is commonly used in german, but also in english speaking countries (pronounciation being different of course). Despite there being countries outside of Europe with french and english as official language, last time I checked it, France/Belgium/Switzerland; Germany/Austria and Switzerland again; Great Britain/Ireland where all part of Europe. So the sentence “Sebastien is basically the European variant of Sebastian” doesn´t make any sense. On top of that, in spanish it would be Sebastián, and that little thing over the “á” leads to a totally different pronounciation, needless to say Spain is also in Europe. Sebastien Loeb is from France, Sebastian Vettel from Germany, in case you didn´t know.

    3. Flaco13

lol sorry man, since Monatsende didn´t want to play the smartass I thought I´d take his part ;) It´s all good! :)

    1. HuskyGT

You know they won’t give him an answer, so why ask? The console doesn’t matter anyway; what matters is that GT6 is coming soon! (this year hopefully).

    2. StiggyGT

The console…? PS3 preferably, because I can’t see there being many perks of having it on PS4. Then the potentially hefty price tag of a ‘next-gen’ system, hmmm.

    3. Amac500

It couldn’t be on PS4. How many if us devoted players are going to be able to pay a ridiculous price tag and also be able to get a PS4 right when it comes out? I think the PS3 will probably be supported for like a year or 2. It’s to bad they will never just make the dang things compatible, but I know that’s an unrealistic hope.

    4. Quakebass

      A few things here:

      – There’s no doubt this event will announce GT6, and I’m SURE that the console(s) it’s being released for will be revealed as well. No need asking.

      – The PS4 will NOT have an unreasonable price tag. It’s been heavily pointed to to have a MAXIMUM price of $550, minimum $400 (USD) Not that bad a bargain. And if GT6 is a launch title (which, if it’s on PS4 it more than likely will), you can probably get it in the box.

      – Even if it’s on PS3, you’d be able to stream it on PS4. I don’t see why people are forgetting about the backwards compatibility via stream service.

      – There is still plenty of evidence for GT6 being on PS4 (I hate to sound like a broken record); PD had early knowledge and played a role in deciding the hardware to be used in the PS4, giving plenty of time to make GT6 for that platform. And it would fall within of the timeframe of “before GT5 was even launched”. Even if it wasn’t then, PD could’ve been working on assets (cars and tracks – wireframes really) that are universal to most environments. They still would’ve had at LEAST two-ish years to work on all of the physics and lighting, and this is VERY reasonable, considering the simplicity and ease of development in the environment they’re using when compared to the PS3’s.

    5. Quakebass

Oh, and by the way, a retailer just listed GT6 as a PS4 game. That removes any credibility anyone cold have seen (and really SHOULDN’T have seen, as the retailers aren’t basing it on any real steadfast info) from retailers.

    6. HuskyGT

I’m afraid that if it’s released this year for PS4, the game won’t be half of what GT5 is. Yet I can’t wait any longer for a proper full sized GT title. So I rather have it for PS3 which will guarantee that the game will be as huge as GT5, but much better in terms of car content, in-game content, tuning and customizing (even if the car list doesn’t reach more than 600 non-repetive cars).

GT6 on PS3: Makes more sense, but probably won’t happen.

GT6 on PS4 (this year): Most likely a tiny eye candy game with only 100 cars, or a Prologue nonesense.

Bottom line. I want a new GT this year, so PD, bring GT6 for PS3 and then take as much time as you want to release a full-sized monster GT7 for PS4 in the next two years or so.

    7. TokoTurismo

I know GT6 is going to be for PS3. I mean, theres DriveClub that’ll be the PS4’s launch title. GT6 for PS3 is the best choice and makes a lot of sense. Those who want it on PS4 may love waiting for a GT title, even though they said specifically they don’t like waiting…

      So 100% GT6 for PS3!

    8. Quakebass

Why a prologue…? I’ve explained how GT6 could very well make it as a full PS4 game EASILY. Assets (3-D renderings and/or wireframes) transfer through most environments. It’s just a matter of upping the poly count. We don’t know if PD really needs the new tech or not – we don’t know if the GT5 engine can still be optimized for the PS3 environment, or if it really IS at it’s limit.

As for DriveClub… There’s been multiple racing launch titles before. The PS3 had MotorStorm and Ridge Racer. It’s looking like Drive Club is going to be more of a social, open-world, arcady game, as opposed to the professional simulator aspect offered by GT6. There’s been multiple shooters at launch before as well, so as I said, why not multiple racers…? Even if GT6 isn’t on PS4, it will more than likely be being released near the time that the PS4 is being launched… So your argument, Toko: “Those who want it on PS4 may love waiting for a GT title, even though they said specifically they don’t like waiting…” – isn’t quite valid, as either way people would be waiting to get the game about equally, give or take maybe a month.

Not trying to be aggressive, by the way.

    9. Pit Crew

Multiple Race titles Published by the same company is just too risky. Sony would be better off waiting for GT6 to finish and Launch it with the PS4 if thats the case. DriveClub can’t compete with GranTurismos base, regardless of how it plays. This would be a disaster for Evolution studios, and Sony IMO after taking this MultipleRace title launch action, would look sort of like Evil Academy.

  14. Tallgeese69

I hope we get Silverstone in either the current title or one to come. I’d also like to see the Circuit of the Americas.

    1. Amac500

COTA is great, but I still want Sebring first :D Both are great circuits though, I just pull for the ones with the most history in the world of GT racing, because that seems to be the staple of the game.

    2. infamousphil

I’m not interested in Britian’s shortened and otherwise wonderful circuit. Or any other abbreviated track. To think that PD and Kaz have ignored the Bughatti circuit all these years makes me sick ;) I’d like to see GT revisit all it’s earlier circuits and its current tracks. Although, Seattle had its ridiculous jumps, it had a certain appeal. Tracks I would prefer, in this order, Road America, Sebring, Watkins Glen and Road Atlanta. Last spring I drove hauled freight through Brainard… twice ;)

    3. researchALLwars

don’t sleep on Mid-Ohio. Driver’s seem to rave about Sebring and Mid-Ohio more than most other american tracks..

    1. QuikSlvr223

Heck, I’m thirteen and can drive (and spell) better than pretty much anybody I’ve ever met.

  15. 2012GT325

Why isn’t the event being streamed live on the internet? I would think an announcement for the biggest Sony franchise, attended by some of the world’s biggest manufacturers, deserves live streaming. Heck, small little car/news shows stream their events live, so I don’t see why/how Sony won’t/can’t do the same here.

    1. omnibusse

Maybe they expect too many people to watch. Many more than they could handle maybe. Maybe they want to be able to polish the video-summary before it’s made public.

    2. Pit Crew

2012GT325 You complain about everything. Its not like you wont get an opportunity to see the stream eventually. The important thing is we will get some kinda update on GranTurismo.

    1. MeanElf

That could be said by many countries…yet only you complain.

I think the choice was made by their affiliation with Silverstone due to the Academy, plus the track being relevant to GT6. PD have held events in various locations in the past, New York being the last one, so think about that before sounding off.

    2. HaylRayzor

Or maybe it’s just not worth the effort to bring someone from outside the UK for a few hour long media shmooz.

    1. Amac500

Well I hate to crush your spirit, but the event is actually expect to announce GT6 coming out in the fall of 2015 :D
