There are good and bad ones. Its like with the tracks configs or tracks themselfs. Those trees can look realy good. My favourite set is the one for Monza:

While I agree that the trees for Monza look good (as long as there's no or little wind, because in the wind they start 'being alive' and parts of them vanish to just reappear), there's still the (huge) impact on fps.But there are people who throwing out many configs, which are not well made and not well optimized.
Alone on track I get:
129 fps AVG / 116 fps MIN without treeFX
89 fps AVG / 71 fps MIN with treeFX
which I find quite substantial.
There is a solution, because I have one(or two ?) treeFX add-ons where the impact is very little. Can't remember ATM which track it is though.
@Johannes S I should have mentioned that I'm on a triple screen setup with a 1080ti, which after a recent upgrade gives me the possibility to race full grids on most tracks and still have good performance.
