Out of curiosity...does compressing an AC installation also (slightly) enhances performance? Or not (at all)?
I didn't notice any change apart from the disk space gain. Compression could slightly improve loading time if it "packs" the data with more accuracy or efficience for the reader but un-compressing the data at the loading track / cars phase may have a slight cost as well. Visual performance should not be increased except if it would produce compressed texture data that would be lighter to display without visual changes but I don't believe it is the case here with the CM tool.

I was wondering why I couldn't fit AMS, AMS2, RF, RF2, EVO, LMU, ACC, RBR full, iRacing and all other sims to my hard drive. Then I realized that my AC installation folder alone takes friggin' 500 Gigs. I'm old enough to remember when big games took 10 floppies and 30 Megs. :D

I bought a new 4 TB drive and now we're talking again.

How big AC folders you guys have? I'm sure mine is on the smaller side because I've only kept the essentials. :D
875gb son, and I consider my install to be very "light" :)
My folder of downloaded but not installed/tested is 1.2tb, and I am no "collector"

btw, as a 'Merican I remember downloading things like "Jazz Jackrabit" from funet.fi back in the 90s on my 2400 baud modem

Hey man... my big brother had a C64 with a cassette drive. We waited for Rambo to simply LOAD for 25 minutes... then it didn't load. But it worked after the third attempt.

But that was a long time ago... it was the same year when my great grandfather fell off his dinosaur and broke his wooden underwear.

PS: I never had a 2400... that was L4M3... 9600 was the way to go. :D

do we have a good solution for overtakes add block issue right now?
uBlock Origin Light

Remove an Element - remove the Popup
Remove an Element - Remove the grey filter that comes up

I did this like 2 weeks ago and haven't had an issue since. I would have shared earlier, I didn't realize this was an issue for you guys too

@Apocalypse211
1.54 TB (uncompressed) on a 4TB drive just for AC.
Not counting full back up of cars and track on a different drive and some other folders of cars mods not installed for different reasons.
So lots memory space dedicated to the GOAT of race simulator, but memory is cheap and that game makes my life a better life.
This is almost the exact same as me. I have a 1+ TB Assetto Corsa installation on a 4 TB drive (future proofing) and a separate drive has some backup cars and tracks as well as rollback CSP versions. Probably close to 2TB in total. The 4 TB drive is dedicated to Assetto Corsa lol

Re: trouble with replacing a texture on VRC Alfa 156

Got a reply from VRC about the can't-change-interior-color, saying in order to be able to substitute an alternate texture (the normal way) you must remove said texture file (.dds) from "hr_textures.zip" in the extension folder. Problem solved. (and learned something :))
( files were INT_FB_DIFF.dds for the door panels and GEN_DIFF.dds for the window net)

(STW skins are up now, BTCC version coming next)

ublock origin lite is definitly the best one for users like me who have opera gx^^

I made a quick update of La Vall Street Circuit Víctor Abad by Giga10:
  • semaphore fix
  • replaced marshals and track cranes by RMi (using TrackDecoration app by leBluem)
  • replaced the 2D crowd with Crowds texture by Kniker97 (not perfect on grandstand)
  • fixed the AI
  • replaced the barrier textures with No banners and new asphalt by mikeblueberry
  • fixed some shaders like trees and fences

Download Update
Updated:
  • added RainFX
  • added windows reflections & lights
  • fixed tower controll transparency
  • fixed balconies transparency
  • fixed pits windows
  • fixed street semaphores (light mesh separated from semaphore lights)
  • jumbotrones now working
  • improved GrassFX

re: all the same current crop of GT3/LMH cars from modders...

The only upside maybe is if someone does release a majority of them(or all of them) maybe I can actually try to race them without having to trying of BoP between different CSP physics implementations....

That SD McLaren mod also needs a polygon count reduction, 2400k jesus wept it is heavy lol
That's what I'm saying, the body along is over 400k poly, which is more than the entire URD Glick and Toyota models combined. I'll give it a shake at some point but really I just know some rudimentary things to fix up models from skyrim modding, so I may not be able to do it.

Where are FSR and SDD fans?
Do those exist?

Regarding compression, it doesn't affect performance. I believe it increases CPU usage when loading as it decompresses things, but you're typically waiting on the disk anyway so ultimately it rarely matters.

6716 cars,797 Tracks. Unknowingly, the occupancy rate has reached this level, which is what's left after optimization.

Text directly from CM Compress files:

"CM searches for all models and textures (KN5 and DDS files) - these files can be compressed, often multiple times. There is no advantage to compressing PNGs or similar, as these file formats already include compression, and this will only slightly slow down the loading of AC.

I recommend using the best compression algorithm, LZX. Although this slightly increases the CPU load during the loading process, there is an advantage due to the reduced number of total files to be loaded.

None of this has any influence on the FPS, as AC does not dynamically reload files."

I've got a 4TB SSD just for the AC installation - currently 2.01TB used just for AC installation - 5678 cars, 1587 tracks, 262 championships...and I don't add everything, I quite choosy now...

Ive been Working on a car for the League I run and have ran into an issue on the blender side where the model seems to not want to show reflections correctly and other odd aspects. Does anyone know a work around for this? So far i have struck out with google. If you look at it you can see how the reflection is massively warped. The UVs are good tho and it shows no warp in blender.

In other news ive got old vegas with its 2000 roval layout ive been working on and just need to do cams for. Just ive been very busy with this.

I use and wholeheartedly recommend Compactor, which has been posted in this thread multiple times over the years.

Fantastic compression ratio, as my picture above shows - better than CM by quite a bit. Zero impact on compatibility or performance. I just run it every month or so on my cars and tracks folders. Works a treat.

Yeah.. im cleaning.. the ssd is only 2tb

@BruceD do you have a template for your awesome CART 1993 mod ? Trying to make John Paul Jr's T91/00 from scratch but it's kinda hard without a clean file to start from.

edit : didn't need one when you can do it yourself ! I eyeball'd it so a few inaccuracies here and there (couldn't quite decipher the logos beside EARL'S nor the logo on the front). Obvs for the T91/00 - Buick model :)
